Sally: I'm supposed to be starting my new life on Alpha Colony, not crash-landing on a planet where everything is out to kill me. My dreams are my only respite. Dreams of a hot alien who would do anything to please me...
Jaskry: When the strange pale female arrives in my dreams, I know I've been blessed. I don't know why I've been chosen for a mate so beautiful and perfect. I'm the smallest in my tribe, the least deserving in their eyes. But I will do anything to protect her, to prove myself worthy, even if it means going against my tribe.
This steamy short novella is an introduction to the Mates for the Raskarran series featuring a primitive alien race on a jungle planet who can enter the dreams of their mates.

So we have and entire series based around everything of worshipping women and not understanding aspects of our world but now we have them using terms like whore? No. They wouldn’t have had it
I would give this 2 ⭐, but I'm so in love with the series proper, I physically... can't...do it. This feels very hastily written with no finesse. It would have read better as a frank, factual retelling of how Sally and Jaskry found each other. As is, I didn't give a crap about them. Go back to the ship, get killed by the tribe. Meh. And Jaskry came off as a horny teenager. Did not like him at all. Let's just pretend this never happened, shall we?
Have to say I agree with some other reviews. It didn't feel a proper part of the overall series. Jaskry comes across as a male with a height complex (aka "little man syndrome") and Sally accepts what's going on a little too easily. I understand this was written well after book one, to give Sally and Jaskry their story, and I think the author should have left well enough alone. 2.5 stars
Read this in 2022 so doing a re-read of the series as I haven’t read the newest one yet
This was a nice quick read before getting to the first book. From what I read about the book, it is set to be about 10 years before the first book. Obviously this is short since it’s basically a prequel to the series. Not sure if we will see this couple again though but I guess we shall see! For being a novella, I think this was hashed out and detailed pretty nice.
This definitely has the same feel as Ice Planet Barbarians with the crash landing and ‘fated mates’. The male lead is automatically obsessed with the FMC and is very protective of her. So if you enjoyed IPB, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this as well! Looking forward to starting the first book!

There are a lot of human alien romance books out there and the meeting in the dream part of this book was new. was weird that they could understand each other in the dreams but not in real life.
I did like the soul mates part and that the male soul mate was not the biggest or strongest or leader of his people as is usually the case.
the idea of all the women dying out was not new but that they were on a primitive planet with no means of travel to seek new women was a weird but new choice.
having the crew using the women of the crew as currency and the single men of the planet wanting and fighting over the only available female was how I think men would really act.
was kind of disappointing that life on the primitive planet is all that is with no real hope for new women or the ability to leave or be reunited with her sister.
the next book has women crash landing on the same planet include the left behind sister which is a bit unrealistic both sisters crash landing on the same planet but I would read the next book and be interested in reading other book by this author.
This was a surprisingly well written and developed prequel to a series of fated mate alien romance stories. From the initial dreamspace interaction between the two main characters onward, the characters develop and grow reacting to the challenges they're presented with. While short, this novella makes for an interesting introduction to this alien world and hopefully for the stories to follow.
I got this story by signing up for the author's mailing list from BookFunnel and was pleasantly surprised to find a well written short novella with an interesting world and interesting characters.
prequel novella; nice and short that lays out enough of the lore of the world that i could understand her conceit. i’m not sure exactly how i feel about meeting in the dreamscape? did i like it? it’s an interesting way to get around the language gap between the two mains, i guess, but was it too convenient that they could just go to sleep and talk completely?
It starts with a dream...and dreams are good, when you’re stranded on an unknown, hostile planet, hungry and with no hope of leaving. Then the action kicks in keeping you on the edge of your seat....waiting, waiting to see what happens next.
Perfectly cute little novella, and a good starter to a series. It definitely feels like an appetizer for something bigger though. Despite that, it’s well-written and the concept is pretty neat.
I loved this story. There is a language barrier except when they dream and it has a storyline that is different to most alien-romances. The alien is sweet but fierce. I recommend having a look.
It's Ok, though the whole dream thing isn't very well explained, but I guess it will be in the first book of the series. It wasn't interesting enough for me to read that, thoug.
