Muhahahaha...Haha!
The character development and world building are very believable in an alternate universe, near-future setting. The writing is very good, and the story is, as stated above, excellent! I'm definitely looking forward to the next book.
At the start the tale was being told from two different perspectives which confused me occasionally until I got the hang of the characters. After that I enjoyed it more.
Got more background on Elliot and why he has ninja skills. There are family ghosts involved and I can't wait to learn more about that. He's trying to be more like a normal student, but still has a fear of meeting new people. He's thrown into a terrible situation after his best friend and professor are kidnapped. Then there's Arthur. Arthur is a great character; dealing with non-heroic powers while wanting more than anything to be a hero. He's just a regular guy grappling with changing powers and navigating the PR to fame. Trying to get there he takes a career shortcut that lands him in a world of secrets and trouble. There's lots of action and it is fast paced, so you're never bored. I really like the way the characters are developing and, as they say, the plot thickens. So, I'm going on to the next story in this series. I recommend you give them a try.
I thought the book was really slow and without a real plot. Almost quit reading it. However I am glad I kept going as the storyline came together and things sped up. I enjoyed it overall but of course this being book one, it really wetted your appetite to to find out what will happen after this setup. Definitely not a stand alone book.
This book starts off well but it makes more sense if you have read the previous story first. Full of action and drama throughout the story. I couldn’t put it down and it kept me on the edge of my seat.
I ran across this title on a blog post. The cover was eye-catching and the blurb sounded exciting, so I decided to give the book a try. Boy, I'm glad I did.
The story starts off in action-packed drama, which is never really explained in book one about the significance of the artifact the soldier is trying to recover. I'm assuming he's Elliot's great-great grandfather? Hopefully, that detail will be revealed in book two.
As for the rest o the story, it's about two main characters, Elliot and Arthur, as opposite as you can get in lifestyles. They are both facing the same enemy, though, they don't' know that until the end. I loved both of their characters, and I can't wait to see how they will develop together, now that they've joined forces.
The theme of the story it's your typical bad people trying to make super villains, and a superhero that ain't so super. l really enjoyed that Arthur's powers kept mutating until he ends up what he becomes. I felt he handled the end result maybe a bit too impassive. I think I'd have been freaked out.
The writing is good and kept me turning the pages. I did find a few typos, and there was one point I felt that it was a little weak. But, I was thoroughly entertained and can't wait to see what happens next. Also, the blurb eludes to an alien invasion but there is nothing in the first book that indicates it. Hmmm. Interesting.
If you love sci-fi with superhero's and villain's, I highly recommend this book. I give it 5 stars and on to book two.
The first half of the book is basically 2 separate stories, with no real indication of them ever aligning. The next quarter is the 2 main protagonists getting to know of each other and meeting up(in a very strange way) and the last quarter the 2 of them, plus a couple of others, working out their future plans and then it just ends Not sure what the author was hoping to achieve with this format, but the reality is, it just doesn't work.
An excellent book about retired soldiers and an assassin as well as University professor. Secret artifacts and agencies trying to gain control. Who are the good guys or the bad. I'm looking for more.
