Getting kidnapped is one thing, being told that an unknown experiment could give you superpowers, that’s completely different.
As a spy, Jessica has been trained to stop and assess situations, but she's never stopped to wonder why her parents ensured that she never missed a doctor’s appointment.
Jessica’s mother had been captured while pregnant with her and whatever happened ended up killing her twin sister. The strange thing is the UIC, an evil corporation, is telling her that the girl they captured with her is her twin sister. She wants to laugh but the girl is the spitting image of her, down to the strange birthmark.
Even as a normal civilian, Jessie was less shocked when she was given the news about her twin. Her guardian had told her that not only was she a twin, that a group of people had plucked her from her real family. But never anything about powers. Either way, that couldn’t be possible. After all, superpowers don’t exist, right?
I keep on reading through this series despite not being able to follow some of the story because of the writing. The story is a very good YA fantasy, but the writing isn't polished and sometimes I can't figure out who is talking or who is doing the action.
Twins Jessica and Jessie meet for the first time when they are both captured by a group that wants to use them for their nefarious plans. While in the womb, the girls were experimented on and given something (not made clear in the story) that would give them powers when they came together. Jessie is rescued by a kind woman when she overhears the group planning to do something evil with her, and she keeps her in hiding until she is in her upper teens. Jessica and Jessie's paths meet when Jessica and her partner are running from the group after they try to get information from their headquarters. Jessica passes a girl walking along the road that looks a lot like her and goes back to make sure she is alright and the gang following them has left her alone - they haven't and both girls are captured. That's when their powers begin to show.
This is a clean read with a mild Christian message.
This sequel lives up to the first installment of the series. Jess continues to decode the mystery of her life, her past. The tale is expertly interwoven in such a way that will keep you wanting to turn the next page... The story is well-paced keeping your interest and not wanting to put it down. Recommended read! But I recommend reading the first of the series beforehand. Happy reading!
