A body lies amongst the undergrowth in Mildenheath Woods. His hands are bound behind his back, and he’s been killed execution-style.

But the victim isn’t a gangland kingpin: he’s a well-liked young man, never in any trouble, who had his whole life ahead of him.

But as Jack Culverhouse and Wendy Knight begin to dig deeper into what happened, a shocking new truth comes to light. Was the victim quite as innocent as he seemed?

The body of a young man is found by a passer-by. His hands are tied behind his back and he's been shot execution style.

When Culverhouse and Knight start investigating, they find that this young man had loving parents, was generally well liked. He was a quiet young man, had never been in any trouble.

Digging deeper and questioning his girlfriend, and his best friend, maybe the young man wasn't as pristine as he seemed to be. But who wanted him dead?

It's a nicely paced who-dun-it that holds steady until the surprising conclusion. I enjoy the balance between personal and professional lives of Culverhouse and Knight.

An exciting new addition to this series! This is easily read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting at the very beginning. The author has spent a lot of time on character development and it's been fun to watch how the characters have grown into what they are today. Culverhouse is irascible, quick-tempered, stubborn, and sometimes arrogant, but his heart is usually always in the right place. Knight is a calmer, more serene person who balances with Culverhouse perfectly.

Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

A runner finds a body whilst going through Mildenhall woods. It's a young man whose parents portray a very clean living well behaved picture of, however he had his secrets. Knight and Culverhouse also have other problems- after one of their colleagues was found to be losing information and in the pocket of one of the most notorious criminals in the area, he is now refusing to testify thinking it will protect his family. He is incarcerated whilst the major criminal puts his feet up at home. This is part of a series but will stand alone- however some of the main characters' background stories make more sense if the rest have been read. Jack and Wendy, as ever, come across wonderfully. There is that magical mix of character, tenacity, humour and personality- to me the signs of an excellent author when a character makes you feel empathy or make you smile. A nice amount of background story to give depth of character without distracting from the main plot. A wonderful read that I enjoyed very much and cant wait for the next in the series.

I was waiting with bated breath for this, the 10th in the Knight & Culverhouse series, after the cliff hanger ending in the last. This story opens with Jack and the team still reeling from the revelation of betrayal by a former colleague and the long-standing attempts to get Mildenheath’s biggest criminal behind bars. Then a body of a young boy is found, and the major crimes unit go into full investigative mode trying to determine what happened to him. In the meantime, Jack’s private life is taking a change for the better as things start to become more comfortable in his household. This story is full of surprises and twists and turns which are totally unexpected and make the book an extremely absorbing and exciting read. I really enjoyed reading this but at the same time feel a little sad that it will be a while before we get the next in the series. As usual the ending leaves us wanting more. As grumpy as Jack Culverhouse can be, he is a loveable character with the best intentions and I am really looking forward to finding out what more Adam has in store for him.

Shocks all round and a tense ending

Oh Adam, I can't believe we've now got to wait until the next book to find out what happens next. Please can you get writing quickly? A tense finish after a tense storyline, with lots of shocks along the way. I'm not going to give anything away but I recommend you all read it if you haven't, and if you've not read any of the Knight and Culverhouse series, you'd better get started. Thank you Adam for another brilliant read.

Gripping storyline and great one liners

Yet another story in this saga that keeps you gripped, trying to guess whether you’ve worked out who did it. Great one liner remarks from Jack. Definitely got me distracted from the original storyline with another mystery throughout! Look forward to the next one and what happens to Jack next . . .

What can you say about another great Adam Croft book? I started reading this series with book one, and with each book, the characters become more and more enjoyable. If you start with this series, STOP and begin with book one. I won't give away any of the plots of this book, but I will tell you it is well worth your time to read it. I can't wait to get another Knight and Culverhouse book.

An unusual murder of a quite young man who spends most of his time paying computer games with his long term friend. The case appears simple but its not The detectives are led down a number of wrong paths. All is not what it seem. Another good book in the series but can be read as a stand alone.

What can I say about an Adam Croft book. I have never read one that I didnt love. This one is part of a series which I must admit I did read Book 1 and 2....but I had to jump to Book 10. I will somehow read the others. I loved the Rutland crime series also. Snakes and Ladders is again what you would expect from Adam Croft.

One thing I love about his books is how they start off with a bang. "A body lies amongst the undergrowth in Mildenheath Woods. His hands are bound behind his back, and he’s been killed execution-style." Who would not want to read a book that draws you in like this. So we follow Knight and Culverhouse through the many twists and turns leading up to a great ending....no spoilers here.

Read it, enjoy it....I did. #fivestars

I enjoy reading Adam Croft. Well written; likeable, true to life characters who lead normal lives when they are not policing. A nice murder mystery. What's not to like. Blanket over your knees, hot coffee and an Adam croft book.
