First and foremost, a large thank you to Reedsy Discovery and Carmen Cady for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

While police procedurals and mysterious thrillers flood the fiction marketplace, Carmen Cady has been able to find a unique angle in this series debut. Jack Calloway is not only a private investigator and criminal profiler, but has a past that sets him apart from many. Few are aware of his great secret, something Calloway hopes will not change in the near future. When a serial killer stalks Seattle, Calloway is brought in to assist with the investigation, only to discover something sinister that floors him. A chilling start to what could be a great series. Recommended to those who enjoy unique takes on the crime thriller.

Jack Calloway has had a great deal of success as a freelance private investigator and criminal profiler, so much so that his name is bandied around many police organizations. His impetus comes from the fact that his family was murdered by a sadistic killer years ago, forcing him to hone his skills to find justice for all. When he is called to assist on a spree of killings in Seattle, Calloway returns to a city that holds many recent memories. Working alongside a forensic tech with whom he has a romantic history is daunting enough, but having to report to a detective who has no love loss for him makes things all the more difficult.

On the surface, the case appears somewhat cut a dry; young women have turned up murdered in Seattle. It would seem there are similarities in their age and the fact they all used a dating app, something that does not leap off the page for anyone. However, Calloway discovers some peculiar clues at the scenes, things that do not add up. Stymied, but not yet ready tho give up, Calloway follows his instincts and tries to make sense of it all.

While he’s trying to come to terms with his colleagues and they past they share, Calloway wrestles with another secret, something far darker and much more troubling. He has a long history—literally—and soon realises that the killer may have been targeting him for more than a few months, baiting him to get involved in the action. It’s soon apparent that Calloway could be a suspect in the killings, based on his connections to them, albeit in a vague manner. He must use this unique approach to his advantage in order to make sense of the victims, the killer, and the direction in which the crime spree will turn, all while trying to clear his name and hold onto the secret that could ruin it all.

Working the crimes without revealing too much about himself, Calloway tries to piece it all together and bring the killer to justice. However, there are delicate aspects that must be handled and clues that cannot be revealed to the general public, for fear that Calloway’s personal life comes to the surface. That would destroy everything, from his credibility through to his lifestyle. There is a killer on the loose, someone who has lured Calloway into this trap and must be stopped, after centuries of evil doing!

Carmen Cady does well to intrigue the reader with the premise of this story, without making things too supernatural. I choose not to reveal too much, permitting the reader to delve deep and see what they think. While the premise—killer must be caught by the protagonist—is traditional in nature, there are aspects to the story that make it a unique and curious read. Cady may be on to something here, if she can keep the momentum.

Jack Calloway is a great protagonist, revealing much about himself throughout the story. While he is a top-notch private investigator, there are personal aspects to him that come to the surface throughout this piece. Both his personal and professional lives come under scrutiny in the novel, with the reader receiving a front row seat to all the action. His secret remains his own, though Calloway will have to face many a demon throughout the story to make sense of what is before him, which only thickens the plot.

Cady offers up a wonderful cross-section of characters in the piece, each working in their own way to advance the plot. There are many subplots that develop, allowing Cady to hone her characters effectively and flavouring the narrative throughout. Calloway’s past and present are on full display here, with many complementing his character in their own manner.

The story, while not entirely unique in its approach, is great as the layers are peeled back. Cady knows how to build up some tension between her characters and uses plot to advance the story. The narrative, working in a number of time periods and through the eyes of numerous characters, proves strong and does not lose the momentum throughout. A mix of chapter lengths proves the perfect tease for the reader, goading them to keep going in order to piece the mystery together. There are many aspects to the story, appealing to a large audience, though their underlying truth about Jack Calloway drives the story along, forcing the reader to wonder just how long his secret will remain his own, and how that could turn the series on its head.

Kudos, Madam Cady, for an intriguing series debut. I will have to keep my eyes open for more of your work in the coming years. Jack Calloway certainly has me curious, as does his backstory!

Jack Calloway is a criminal profiler and a private investigator. He is frequently called in to assist the police in hunting down vicious killers.

Many years ago, Jack was a witness to the murder of his entire family. No one was ever charged with the crime and Jack has been hunting the killer his entire life.

Little does he know the man who murdered Jack's family has also been hunting him. The killer is going on a spree ... and planning to incriminate Jack. But he has other problems.

He's asked with work with a forensic expert .... a woman he once loved and pushed away and a lead detective that doesn't like or trust Jack.

And to put the cherry on top of the sundae, he carries a deep, dark secret that will cost him everything he holds dear if that secret is revealed.

This one is a bit out of my preferred genre. Although well written, my mind doesn't stretch to accept supernatural killers. The plot would have been great had this been "just" a crime fiction. For those who enjoy the supernatural, urban fantasy, etc.... will find this quite an enjoyable read.

Many thanks to the author / Cady Publishing / Independent Book Publishers Association for the digital copy of this Supernatural Suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I had read nothing written by Carmen Cady before receiving Triple M Murder as part of an author sponsored promotional bundle. I’m a big fan of promotional bundles because I love to discover talented new writers and review their books. It also allows me to explore new genres at little or no risk. Anyway, the only thing that I knew about Triple M Murder before I downloaded it to my KINDLE APP was that it was a supernatural thriller.

Jack Calloway is a licensed private investigator with his own firm, and he’s a profiler that consults with the SPD, the Seattle Police Department. Jack Calloway is also a vampire, but unlike the vampires of old, they no longer prey on human beings, but coexist peacefully and have cooperative ventures with them. Jack had been a profiler with the FBI before opening his own business. As Triple M Murder opens, we find Jack consulting with the SPD on a serial murder case. We soon discover that there may be vampires involved, which attract the interest and involvement of two supernatural law enforcement groups that the SPD aren’t even aware of. That there is bad blood, no pun intended, between Jake and the lead human detective brings more tension to the mix. The Triple M Murder is a page-burner.

If you are anything like me and grew up reading the classical vampire and werewolf stories and watching the movie made from them, this book will give you a whole new impression of vampires and werewolves. A whole new way of seeing them and in the way they interact with one another and with humans. This story brings vampires and werewolves into the 21st century and makes the temporary suspension of disbelief much easier. At least I found that to be the case while reading Triple M Murder.

An old enemy appears out of Jack’s past to take revenge on a wrong by Jack’s father. He sets out to frame Jack for the murders he has committed and to destroy Jack by killing all those Jack cares about and then killing Jack as the last step in his vengeance. Will Jack be able to find him and stop him before he kills everyone that Jack cares about? Will Jack himself survive? Read the book to find out how this engrossing story ends!

“You cannot get away from me, sunshine. You’re mine as long as I want you. And if you want to live, you better do everything I say to keep my interests.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jack Calloway is a private investigator, called onto a serial-murder case with the police department in the SPD. After a few days, with more research into the case and murders, as well as strange happenings continuing, Jack realises someone is trying to frame him. But why? Oh and he’s a vampire so it’s all supernatural related!

See how I just threw in at the end that Jack was a vampire? That’s what reading this book was like. Nowhere in the description does this mention about being a vampire story - instead only a detective book, but if anything, this is a book about vampires with the added extra that he’s a private investigator in the human world. So, that’s why I’ve rated it four stars, because I was completely and utterly mis-sold on what this book was about.

However, the storyline was great. Carla was definitely my favourite character, and I felt like I always knew how she felt, truly. Now, on to book two!

Jack Calloway, a PI and criminal profiler with a dark secret, and a past littered with tragedy, is called in to assist in solving a series of grizzly murders. Jack was compelled initially to become a PI to try and track down the monster who destroyed his family. The narrative becomes a story of cat-and-mouse when evidence builds against Jack, making himself a suspect in the triple M murder case. To uncover who is truly behind the murders Jack must work with his ex-lover (who he still cares for deeply).

This is a suspenseful supernatural, thriller/romance and I enjoyed my time reading it. The world-building and incorporation of the supernatural elements were done seamlessly and I liked the twists that they lead to throughout. There are some steamy scenes in this book that were not over-the-top; I could constantly feel the sexual tension between Jack and Carla and their romance felt very authentic.

The majority of the story is written in the 1st person (from Jack’s POV) but you do get other character’s POVs as well; I did find it a bit jarring that these were written in the 3rd person (except for one other character). The Author’s writing style is quite descriptive and had a nice flow. I found the pacing to be slower than I would have liked, particularly towards the climax due to the inclusion of descriptions and (small) info dumps – an example is during a time where I felt very tense, the tension was lost because almost a whole page was dedicated to providing a family history of one of the characters which I felt didn’t add anything extra to the story.

I also was not a huge fan of the way the women in the story were portrayed as they were often described initially by the physical appearance of their breasts, legs etc. and I think we need to move past this in 2021. Furthermore, the way that the male characters ‘think’ about women as being helpless and are patronising towards them was off-putting and did make me disconnect from the story at times.

Overall, I would have liked this book to have shown the supernatural ‘beings’ in their more traditional horrifying, scary way, but I highly recommend Triple M Murder to anyone who likes supernatural romance books or wants a great crime novel with a supernatural twist.

Triple M Murder is an intriguing twist on the murder mystery genre by Carmen Cady. Jack Calloway is a consultant profiler who occasionally helps police departments along the US West Coast. In this instance, the Seattle police chief has called him in to help investigate a potential serial killer. The twist? Jack Calloway has been a vampire for over 150 years.

It's not immediately obvious at the start of the story, but little snippets are dropped out as Jack gives us his view of the world. Things like heightened senses, incredible strength and women's attraction to him are all given to us.

"My senses take it all in. I can capture smells imperceptible to others and notice details that aren't obvious."

Jack has a history with the Seattle PD, especially Ed Halsted Lead detective and Carla Briggs forensic investigator who's also Ed's ex-wife. You know that there's no love lost between the two men and that Jack and Carla were once an item. So onto the murders, three so far. The victims, all women have had their feet and wrists bound. There are unexplainable puncture wounds to the neck and wrists which are older than the marks left by the bindings. It looks as though there were two different types of torture taking place over several weeks. Are there two torturers?

As we move further into the story, we learn that in this world there are two types of law enforcement: Those of a human, and those of a supernatural nature. The vampires are ruled by the Dracul who have fought to coexist peacefully with humans. There are also werewolves in the background. Jack sits somewhere just outside of both worlds, never fully aligned to either. As I said earlier, it's a really intriguing concept with some great original ideas.

For me though, I struggled to connect with Jack, the main character. Maybe it was his casual use of women within the story or the sense of arrogance about him, I wasn't sure. Although this is not just a reflection of him, it seemed a trait among the whole vampire community, which may be what the author intended. Ed Halstead also appeared big and brash at the beginning, but towards the end, my impression of him changed dramatically.

Characterisation apart, Triple M Murder moved at a pretty quick pace with plenty of suspense thrown in. The supernatural aspect of the plot increased the sense of intrigue and added a welcome twist to your average serial killer plot. I enjoyed the history behind the Dracul's and the concept of opposing vampire factions. I think there's plenty more here to build on for future stories.

Carmn Cady has crafted a very compelling and exciting tale and her character Jack Calloway is equally intriguing and captivating. loved it!

Private investigator and criminal profiler, Jack Calloway is not your ordinary criminal justice professional. He has covert abilities far beyond the normal tools of the trade; causing him to be highly sought after by many law enforcement agencies across the country. After the agony of witnessing the murder of his family Jack is consumed with guilt and it stays with him and eats at him for years until he senses a connection to a serial killer in Seattle. Will Jack finally find and deliver justice to the killer of his family, or will this creature of his past outsmart him and take him down and set Jack up as the suspect in the serial killings?

The conflicts continue to build as Jack has to also work with an ex-lover who is a forensic expert and a lead detective who despises Jack. None of this, however, compares to the secret that Jack Halloway has kept under wraps for ages. Will justice be served and what will be the cost?

This novel fell just short of a five star "must read" for me because the first pages of the story didn't have enough depth, as the sentences were clipped. It was a bit difficult to get into the story but that soon changed, and I became hooked into going on to the next page.

It's obvious that the author has a diverse background of knowledge in police procedures and psychology, and she uses it expertly throughout this story. The characters are well developed and interesting and the plot held my interest until the very last word. It's sometimes a toss-up as to whether a reader will continue in a book series but this one has peaked my interest- I will continue.

This is a very unique book. Jack Calloway is a criminal profiler and private investigator. He is dark, intense and has special qualities that make him a good investigator who is frequently called on by police to help solve crimes.

Years ago Jack witnesses his entire family being brutally murdered by a ruthless killer, and he has since spent his life trying to find the person responsible. Since that night he has been harboring a monstrous secret, one that few know about. The Monster who viciously killed his wife, child and parents was a vampire that turned Jack into one as well.

Jack is called out to a crime scene by police because there is a serial killer on the loose and they need his profiling abilities to help solve the crime. As more bodies are found and clues are collected they all seem to point to Jack. Someone or something is trying to frame him for the murders. Jack must solve the crime to clear his name but also to protect those he cares most about because nobody is safe and someone is out for revenge.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the blend of police procedural and the supernatural elements that worked so well together. The characters were well developed and interesting and I really look forward to future books in the series to continue reading about Jack and his crime solving with the help of both the humans and supernatural beings in his life. I am very intrigued about the many interesting characters that we were introduced to and how all their stories will develop. This was a wonderful paranormal thriller with bite.

Review featured at www.books-n-kisses.com

This book was just odd for me. It’s not that I didn’t like it but I wouldn’t say I loved it. The story is interesting. And I think it had a lot of potential. But there were some things I did not like.

First the good, I liked the suspense and it kept me interested to figure out the who-dun-it. I thought the romance of the story was done well and not over the top. I thought it was right to how people would feel who once had a connection but now have to work together.

Now the other part. First I hated, HATED, the way the women are portrayed in this story. I mean seriously the sexism in the story was distracting. If it had been set a different time it would have made more sense but it is not and women are not sex objects.

There were times it felt the author was saying 15 words for 3 to fill in pages. A number of things/people were overly explained for no reason.

I will read the next in the series to see if the first was overly written to explain the new characters but I am not sure how much of a fan I will be.

I read a lot of police procedural and detective type books and I expected this one to be similar. I was thrown pretty quickly by the supernatural aspects of the book. I wasn't expecting vampires and werewolves to be integral to the story when I picked it up. That being said, I really enjoyed it! It had all the things I like about detective books, with a little added excitement. I enjoyed "watching" Jack deal with balancing his past and present, revealing much of himself along the way. Great characters and interesting plot! I would definitely check out more books by Ms. Cady in the future!

ARC digital copy. 3.5 stars Overall I enjoyed this book and the supporting characters. I personally try not to judge too harshly, especially for a first time publication. It is an interesting concept and has tons of potential for future stories.

I would enjoy seeing Jack become a more solid character, he seemed to change personality types through the book. Depending on the circumstances. At first arrogant and confident. Then during a trying time, not so much. Hopefully this will solidify and be more consistent in the future books.

BOOK REVIEW- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Thoughts: Thank you to @netgalley, Carmen Cady, and Cady Publishing for a copy of this E-arc in exchange for an honest review. I went into this one blindly and I'm glad I did because otherwise I'm not sure I would have read it. Triple M Murder follows Jack, a PI and a vampire, on his quest to solve a string of serial murders. This book gave me so many different vibes: thriller, vampire suspense, paranormal themes, and police procedural. I enjoyed this book and how quickly I bit in and hooked onto the story

A really strong thriller with a dash of supernatural to make it a bit different to many thrillers on the market. The back story is heartbreaking and really makes the characters and their relationships something to invest in. Highly recommended for people who like their thrillers a little bit brutal and dark.
