“A string of murders… A detective who can see ghosts…. A paranormal investigator who doubles as a primary suspect…”
Among the naked trees whose branches faced heavenwards in despair at the desolation surrounding them lies a woman whose death is violent every bit unnatural. Victoria Brooks - a leading homicide investigator is called for. As she races against time to solve the murders, the body count is on the rise and supernatural elements are at play. Her ability to see the dead causes her to unravel clues that point to her past. Accompanying her in this investigation is Paranormal Investigator Jonathan Steel. When time almost runs out, Victoria's dark past might be the only way to survive this ordeal. With not-so-human entities at play, will they uncover the secrets behind these mysterious deaths?
"Dark retributions" is a bone chilling paranormal thriller book with a fast paced plot. Firstly, I fell in love with the cover, it's absolutely scary and I love that! I'm reading a paranormal thriller for the first time. But I have watched Ghost Whisperer and many other movies/shows in this genre. This book took me back to Ghost Whisperer and I was picturing Jennifer Love Hewitt as Victoria Brooks.
The narration had multiple POV's and it was narrated in first person. The plot was quite thrilling and fast. The tone of the book was creepy and scary. The writing style was articulate and emphatic. There was nothing but to like in this book. Everything was good, maybe the story could have been more unique, but that's me nitpicking.
The story was about the detective Victoria Brooks. She recently lost her brother to suicide and also she can see dead people. Her best friend and partner David was helping her cope with her loss. A particularly gruesome murder occured in an abandoned boys school. Vicky gets a lot of clues from the ghosts around her. They found a paranormal investigator, Jonathan who was the prime suspect. But Vicky knew he has similar powers as her. She believed in his innocence. Oh he had a girlfriend called Shammo, who is a witch.
It's a classic case of evil vs the people. Who will survive this battle? How many people will be lost in the process? Read to find out. Recommending it to all horror and thriller lovers.

My Thoughts: The plot is really engaging and will surely make the readers curious right from the first page itself. As we move ahead in the story we get to see how complex things start to get but throughout the author has maintained this amazing blend of horror, suspense, thriller and mystery throughout the book. There are times when the readers will surely experience the chill with the brutality that the character had to go through. The readers will definitely feel the characters emotions especially Jessica who had to go through with personal loss and then this complex case where too many secrets lie behind these brutal deaths. Language is simple and lucid and the narration is done amazingly. The cover page is horrifying and will attract readers attention. The title of the book is also apt to the book. Overall, I would surely say that this was a perfect blend of horror, suspense, thriller and mystery and horror readers will surely enjoy reading this book.

An interesting book worth reading.
In the past year, I committed a blunder of picking only one particular genre for a month and realized that was the major reason behind my hitting the reading slump at the start of this year. Hence, I decided to keep my resources diversified and till now have been fairly successful after reading a self help, a few non fictions, a heart wrenching tale and now it was time to begin with my personal favourite genre, a gore thriller with a pinch of horror or may be the other way around.
'Dark Retributions' is something that ticks most of the boxes in being a complete novel. Be it in terms of the plot or the twists or the pace and more often than not with the astounding narrative skills of the author at helm, making readers chilled to death and scared in the anticipation of what to come next. The unfortunate fate that most characters meet in this novel, with the constant trials and unsettled and unstable mental setup is quite barbaric to say the least.
The story begins in a horrific manner when readers hardly have begun to get into the groove of reading a suspenseful tale and sadly they have to witness the brutality with which Alex and Jessica are presumably killed. There enters Victoria with a disturbing past of her own who is entrusted with the responsibility of solving the ruthless crime that has just taken place. Will she succeed? Read the book to find out.
I loved the way author has introduced the characters especially Victoria. Every lead has some sort of mysterious aura surrounding him or her which raises the bar and heightened the tension. The readers stay hooked to the book with bated breath to comprehend the audacity with which killer is on the spree carrying out the murders in the most heinous way. The story tries to maintain the contrast between the unseen, the unknown and the real world. And once one starts skimming through the pages,he can't stop himself to immerse further in the well constructed plot. The editing could have been a bit better but except this one shortcoming, the book is a complete package in itself.
Do you believe in ghosts? Do ghosts exist for a purpose? This is the story of a series of mysterious gruesome murders and how they are solved by a detective who can talk to ghosts. This is the story of Detective Victoria Brooks.
Uniqueness This is a paranormal thriller with an evil spirit on a murderous rampage and a detective talking to ghosts. As the case progresses, old graves are dug up (not literally :)), and plots are revealed. The uniqueness lies in the complex plotline. Multiple stories are running in parallel, and as you keep reading, you realize how tightly intertwined they are.
Predictability It was hard to predict what was going to happen in this book. I had a general idea of what I would expect based on all my experience as a reader. However, the plot twists were neither out of the blue nor entirely predictable. The story was more or less linear but with an air of uncertainty which made it unpredictable.
Writing Style The author has very skillfully written the story. She started with an intense prologue and kept unveiling the plot slowly and steadily at precisely the right time. The bulk of the story is written from one Point of View. Still, the author shifts the perspective strategically to create more mystery. The author has adopted a simple language and narration style making the book very easy to read.
Cost Worth The paperback edition costs around ₹450, while the kindle edition is at ₹90. I would gladly pay for the paperback edition as well.
Entertaining This book is simply unputdownable. Very rarely does it happen that I have to pull myself away from a book. The writing style coupled with the master storytelling kept me hooked till the very end. The ending felt a little rushed and could've been extended a little. However, I enjoyed reading the book. So much so that I finished it in 3 days which is record time for me.
Verdict A complex plot, clever storytelling, and a simple narration make this book unputdownable. As it turns out, this is the first book in a series, which I was not expecting, given how the story ended. However, now that I know, I can't stop thinking about it. I am definitely looking forward to more stories by Jemimah Jonah.
"We're all ghosts. We all carry, inside us, people who came before us."
~Liam Callanan, The Cloud Atlas | | 'Talking to deads', Jemimah Johan's DARK RETRIBUTIONS, with a dark ghostly background holds the utmost sincerity of thriller, suspense, mystery and supernatural phenomenons which aren't common among common people. Victoria Brooks, an eminent investigator finds a murder, brutally rare brutality ever happened named Jessica and Alex Brighton. The first few pages of the story wave a story about some ghastly place, a planned murder or I can say a pleasure murder where the murderer is unknown but in conscious it is something that fears us. As the investigation further proceeds, it hunts Victoria's past, her brother and Jonathan Steel, a partner cum suspect, but when dots connect themselves, it unfolds some strange and frightening secret. In this story, the author masterly portrayed the background and placed identities beautifully. Building story along with character themselves, the plot is well-shaped and have a grasp with deliquescence. Moreover, the flashback memory accounts with characters and psychic and realistic connection make the mystery more interesting. One point that surprised me that the leading character is a woman, that I haven't read any women leading mystery fiction yet, this is unique for me. The eye-catching cover with an inviting title itself is the first quality of the book.
Overall it's a must-read for all. A four-star read from my side.
The story starts with a creepy and ugly murder of Mr Alex Brington and Mrs Jessica Brington in mysterious circumstances. Victoria Brooks is central character of story. She has an ability to see spirits and she is working as detective. The case becomes messier as more people started getting killed. In investigation of the case, Victoria found a whole new mystery about her family and she had to solve the bloody mess through dead bodies and wandering ghosts. Will she be able to solve this riddle of mysterious deaths?
First of all, before writing about the book I want to take a moment and appreciate the beautiful bookcover. I would give full stars to this mesmerising and haunting bookcover. The prologue definitely scared me and I shivered while reading it. Author has started storyline in very intriguing way. The book has power to engage reader till the end. Author has profoundly described horror scenes and it has successfully terrified me. Language is very simple and any beginner can read this book.
Author lost the grip of horror genre after few chapters but the mystery was intact throughout story. There were few errors regarding use of pronoun, which could be improved with help of proper editing. Also the storyline became very confusing sometimes.
Overall, I absolutely liked this book. I would recommend it to every thriller genre lover although it may not scare you much but it will definitely keep you hooked with your seat.
This was my first book of this paranormal horror genre and what I experienced is that there is a very thin line between making a book horrific and creepy. While it is thrilling to read a horrific one, it is irritating to read the other. I am glad this book fall in the first category.
The book revolves around Victoria Brooks - a leading homicide investigator who can see spirits and talk to them. She comes across the murder of Mr and Mrs Brighton and in no manner, it seems like a natural one. While the story paces, we meet many interesting characters, David Paramore, Jeremy, Jonathan Steel. With not-so-human entities at play, will they uncover the secrets behind these mysterious deaths?
I have not written much about this story because a single piece of information can act as a spoiler and ruin your experience in reading this book. Every incident is very well written with amazing language and an intriguing narration. All the twists and turns of the story keep the reader on their toes throughout. I really can't believe that this is the author's debut novel and I have fallen in love with her writing and its amazing imaginative mind for creating such a brilliant story. Highly recommended.
I like horror, but I definitely read this one during the day light hours. It is suspenseful, and at times, emotional, with super creepy paranormal related descriptions and events. I don’t often read detective type stories, but based off of the things I had heard about this book, I had the notion that I’d enjoy it, and I did. I felt there was a ton of research done, as there were many instances referencing the detectives’ work and process that seemed so appropriate and realistic, and it made me enjoy and believe the story even more. I also liked the heartfelt connections between the characters in the story, and getting to understand a bit about their pasts. The clues throughout the book involving the string of murders are nice little nuggets that lead us to the big climatic ending. The one thing I found that mildly affected my experience was the inconsistencies with tense. Tense would change from one sentence to the next, and even part way through a single sentence. Over all though, an excellent read and I recommend to anyone who enjoys paranormal horror! I think Jonah is a talented writer and I’m excited to see what else she creates.
Victoria Brooks, a leading homicide investigator, with her partner David Paramore called for an investigation of the murder of a couple from Brighton family - Alexander Brighton and his wife Jessica Brighton. Murder location is Brighton's school of boys, an abandoned school. Victoria can see ghosts and she could feel the negative vibe in that abandoned place. From that point, she could get some clues which are connecting to her own dark past and those are which she was unaware of. As the intensity of the case increases, she asks help of a Paranormal Investigator Jonathan Steel. A sequence of murder happens with those who connected with Brighton family.
Who is the murderer? What is the provoking reason? Will she able to find the murderer? How is she connected to this?
Dark Retributions is a wonderful Thriller / Paranormal fiction. The writing style is too good that the readers could feel each events just as they are currently present at the exact location. The book could generate that frightening horror effect and the suspense in all place. It could blend all sort of emotions together.
The language is very simple and lucid. The title and cover are very apt. The characterization is too good. The narration is breathtaking. From the prologue to the final page of the book, it maintained that flow - not fast-paced and not slow-paced. At end, it felt as watched a movie. Highly recommended.
A book full of sinister plot, dark secrets, witchcraft, brutual murders, fear, love, confusion, paranormal activities, suspense and a detective who can see ghosts!!
Seems interesting, isn't it?
Well actually it was. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was very engaging and I was captivated to read next and next chapters. It seemed as if a Netflix series is running, full of suspense and mysteries.
If you like paranormal, thriller books this book is must read for you. I RECOMMEND THIS...
Damn. This book is just AWESOME. Try reading it if you love crime thrillers. The author nailed it. Especially the details. THE DETAILS REALLY DO MATTER AND THE AUTHOR HAS DONE IT. Already waiting for the sequel
If I knew I'd be enjoying it so much, I'd have picked it up sooner! The book is a complete package; from horror to thriller to mystery to romance! Just like life which in reality is not bound by genres.
I was really surprised by the book, to say the least. Given that this is the author's first work, I'd say there's no reason to not be! From characters to the flow to the language, everything was almost perfect.
There were so many characters, but each were justified as the story progressed. Almost all of them were equally important for the story to take shape. Although I was kinda guessing the scenario right, by midway, I was still satisfied with the way it progressed and the way the truth was revealed.
Now, SPOILER ALERT (I barely give spoilers, but here I HAVE to!): I wish we saw more of David and his relationship with Victoria. The ending got me fr! Almost cried, and a book barely gets me this emotional, okay?! I kept wishing that we'd somehow get that happy ending almost every bollywood movie/kdrama has; but no! The author had to get real, argh! (That's just me bantering, if it's not clear yet). But, somehow she has managed to make that heartbreak seem beautiful too :):
Probably the only reason I'm giving one less star is because of the editing; which was good tbh, but there were still a number of minor errors here and there. There was a page order mismatch too at one place - not sure if it's just with my copy or everyone had this issue. But again, these have nothing to do with the author or her beautiful story!
So, overall, it's a must read!! Definitely pick it up if you like the spooky vibes and some real good story!
What is life? It depends on how one perceives it. But one thing is common in every answer. A series of events playing out one after the other separately, only to join hands together at the end. Every life has a different story, a different path, a different journey but the destination is one. And amidst all these, dance quietly are emotions. And this book my friends, reminded me this.
In the hustle bustle of our everyday life we miss small details, small links in between unknown faces, or maybe that one person whom we met only once in our childhood, whom we have forgotten until s/he comes in front of us as a missing link of our journey... There are so many, isn't it? This is why I told that this book is spine-chilling. Not because of its ghostly descriptions which will make you shiver but the mysterious power that the author holds to connect this small detailed links of our characters' life. A well-thought and a brilliantly weaved plot!
The story starts with a couple returning from a business trip. The mother, Jessica, is eagerly waiting to see his little son who is back at home. All of a sudden the car breaks down, the father, Alex, goes to look for a mechanic but doesn't return. Soon a small child lures the woman into a place where she finds her husband, their actions and words speaking mystery until the first rush of horror lands on the reader in the form of a small child. Next, we fly to Victoria Brook's point of view who is put in charge of a murder case of a woman, along with her partner, David Paramore. I think you can already guess what case it is. Thus, the very first setting of suspense has been weaved by the author and I'm telling you beforehand, you will not be able to close this book until you solve the case, i.e., until you finish this book. Now who all they are, who the little child is, how are all their lives are intertwined together, I'm not gonna tell. Go and grab a copy and find the answers, you'll not regret, I can assure you.
This book is not only well-plotted but I'm amazed with the development of the characters. Though I would have loved to read a bit more about David's story but I'm contended with Jeremy's character sketch. What I absolutely loved is, despite being so many side characters here, I didn't feel they are because even the side characters play a huge role in this fast-paced horror filled mystery.
The author has also successfully brought out the emotions of most of the characters, some of them by writing in first person POVs of various characters and at the end, it's not only the sigh of relief that you'll leave as the horror ends but you will feel your heart laden with two opposite emotions, lightness of smile and heaviness of tears.
So my beautiful souls, if you are a mystery and horror lover, this book is absolutely perfect for you and like the icing on the top is its beautiful narration, with perfectly described scenes and blending of emotions.
Operating with a strong gripping legal procedures, emotional core, but also going big with its action and drama, ripping the veil off a murder spurred on by a motive that is most often shoved under the carpet, or at best, whispered behind closed doors.
It is a slow-burn read by design, while that contributes to the intrigue(we gradually learn that the plot isn't as straight as one has thought to be), parts of it plays out really amazing. Author crafts a fairly engaging paranormal mystery that may seem messy in parts but one that keeps you engaged and entertained for the most part.
With a theme like this, what works is the fact that the whole plot brings the important issue of unseen violence into the open. It packs in far more layers than one could think of.The tone is set right from the opening moments where we see a detection who can see ghosts and her dark past might be the only way to survive the ordeal.
⏩What I didn't like⏪ ●This book takes time to establish itself, which though could have been trimmed. ● I must say proper editing and proofreading are highly recommended. 🌼 ⏩Personal Take⏪ When it comes to innovation in form, this book scored well. The intresting plot, diverse backgrounds, paranormal investigators and all other stuffs turned out to be an intriguing premise, which may have faltered in parts, but it deserves a part on the back.
Dark Retributions is a thriller horror story that revolves around a Westhill police detective Victoria Brooks.
Victoria Brooks has a dark past involving her father's suicide, her mother trying to kill her and ended up in a mental asylum followed bu the recent tragic event of her brother's death.
Another detail to note about our character is the fact that she can see and talk to ghosts. She doesn't confined in anyone to share this secret of her because she has been called crazy and a freak from her own mother when she first saw the ghost of her father and was also institutionalised.
The story revolves around a murder investigation where Mr Alexander and Mrs. Jessica Brighton were brutally murder in an abandoned school (Brighton school for the boys) whole they were returning from a businesd meeting and the case was headed by Ms. Brooks. Their son Danielle was taken care by a babysitter who was now to inherit all the wealth after attaining the correct age. Until then he was under the guardianship of his evil uncle.
Victoria had a team of trusted people and her partner David was her strength and best friend. The story takes a turn when Mrs. Brighton's brother, Jon post her death tells the cops that they can find Mr. Brighton's body in the pond. And post asking about the source of information, he says his sister told him and that he can hear ghosts.
Victoria was also stuck in her personal life where she recently comes across a revelation that her brother Jeremy, was infact killed rather than it being a suicide.
Alot of new characters were introduced in the course of the story, Jeremy's pregnant girlfriend Dany, her sistwr Alicia. Chase a co-worker, extended family of the Brighton's. Jon's fiance Shammo who is a paranormal investigator along with Jon and her helper Zaz.
The storyline is interesting and keeps you hooked to know what exactly happened and how are all these incidents interlinked. Also the depiction of the scenes where Victoria's interactions with the spirit world has occured, are well written and you can surely build the whole situation in your head.
The story is creative and imaginative and the description if the scenes and the manor and the climax are really spellbound. Yoi can feel the chills while reading this one.
New facts are introduced in the story about Victoria, Jeremy, their mother, death of their father and internal involvements in the scene of crime which all ends in an act of exorcism.
There are a lot of questions that you'd find answers to in this book which are: 1. If Jeremy was in fact killed? 2. What is the story of rhe Brighton's family and the evil uncle Charlie? 3. Is Victoria going to share her secret with others? 4. What is the secret behind Mr. Brook's demise and if the mother would return? 5. Who is possessed and what is the great revenge the spirit has it against?

This is an outstanding debut by Jemimah Jonah. Nowadays I am seeing some of the new debutant authors has great writing skill than some of today's bestseller author, it's true. New talents are coming out and I am enjoying exploring new authors every day!
Victoria Brooks, homicide investigator and have supernatural power, she can see and talk with spirits, now that sounds really spooky. The Brighton murder case started like any other regular case but slowly its starts revealing truths about her own brother's mysterious death case which was created like a suicide case. By the passing days, she meets new people. She meets Jonathan Steel, he is the brother of the victim of her new case and this man has extraordinary powers like her. Jonathan can sense souls and can hear them but can't see. Together they solved these two cases.
First, I want to say that the superb cover made this book more attractive and enjoyable. Author Jemimah's writing style gave me pure pleasure, multiple POV gives a perfect spooky feeling. Gave me a taste of classic writing style.
When the author made little scenes in between scene I felt mesmerized. Her narration style is amazing, she made every scene in this book so visible. She just did not write rather she intricate details in a magical way I couldn't put down the book. A true page-turner!!
Her scene-making ability is gorgeous, with perfect execution. How effortlessly she created dimensions in every scene and inserted short sequences in dialogue, she even created a new scene in between conversation, this is just outstanding. There's a lot more, the background music and background scenes with the main scene, she blended perfectly and it gives this novel extra depth. I didn't expect it would be a great horror novel but now I love it.
From the multiple POV's deep insights, one by one revealing every character who is connected with the Brighton murder case, from present to steadily going to the past and excavating the family history, I love it and love how those little background scenes make this story more enjoyable.
I would highly recommend this book to all horror lovers. Read this otherwise, you will be missing something!!! A must-read book. I will rate this 5+ Looking forward, want to read more from her.
How would you feel if you had the power to see dead people? Yes. Dead people. People who left this world and maybe people who were very close to you and they are gone too soon. That's a blessing in Disguise, isn't it? On one side, you can see and meet your loved ones but on the other, people would call you a freak if they find out about this power.
Dark Retributions is a paranormal thriller which will keep you in suspense until the very end of it. The book is not as scary as much as I was assuming before reading the book. It gets creepy at few points but if you enjoy watching/reading paranormal stuff then this book won't scare you, I promise.
The book starts with the murder of Mr & Mrs Brighton. Victoria Brooks is assigned to investigate the case and look for possible suspects. Oh, the way this book started, it got all my attention. Victoria can see and talk to dead people. She lost her brother to suicide and she is trying hard to come out of it. She can see and talk to her brother and this shatters her even more. There is some connection between the death of Victoria's brother, Mr & Mrs Brighton and all the other deaths that take place one after another. Will Victoria be able to solve this case? Or wait, is this even a case or revenge because of something that happened in the past? Find answers as you read this book.
I instantly fell in love with the writing style of the author. It doesn't look naive and dull. It is full of emotions and meanings. Something that I always look forward to reading. The storylines are penned so enticingly that you will be lost in it for a while. The book makes you go through trauma and creepy feelings here and there but by the end of it, it will give you a fresh feeling. The only disappointment I have is that the book gets confusing because of the involvement of so many characters from past and present. It would have been better if there were few characters only so that it is easy to absorb every character and their details.
Overall, a great thriller to sit with and enjoy. Highly recommended.
"The greatest pain would be to watch the one you love, tortured to death."
“When one believes in the existence of spirits, one needs to believe in the existence of God."
"Life and death are all part of the big circle of life."
"Hate can compel anyone to make illogical and compelling reasons to do harm to the ones that you once loved the most. It can scar you worse than you can imagine.”
Victoria Brooks is a detective who can see and talk to ghosts. She was roped into a murder case involving two people who are Mr. and Mrs. Brighton. Victoria starts investigating this case with her friend David Paramore. As the time goes by, cases are progressing but more murders are happening meanwhile.
Victoria's brother, Jeremey, who died is also involved in that case which Victoria is handling and her brother helps her to resolve the case. David doesn't know the ability of Victoria but he is a close friend for both Victoria and Her brother.
Will Victoria find the killer? Will she tell David the truth about her ability?
Meanwhile Jonathan Steel is also involved in this case as he is the brother of Mrs. Jessica Brighton. He can also have the ability to see the spirits. Due to the lack of alibi initially he was framed as a murderer. But Victoria strongly believed that he wouldn't be a murderer as she knew some creepy things were going on without anyone knowing.
How will they find the killer? is in the remaining pages. This one is a complete suspense thriller paranormal book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. At the start, it was hard to understand what was happening. But when the characters develop and as the story progresses, it is easier to understand the plot and twists. My negative points are it could have been with less number of pages and could have been more well plotted. Because many pages are filled with unnecessary explanations or things about the characters which slow down the story.
One of the good suspense thrillers and recommended one.
The plot of the story is quite interesting as it is not just another horror story, but a murder mystery with paranormal elements. The storyline is engaging as well as keeps the reader hooked to turn the page. Jemimah has actually kept the murder mystery as the central plotline, while using the paranormal activities as a way to propel the story ahead, and in my opinion, this is actually a USP of the book. The horrors in the book are chilling, but not grotesque as to scare away the reader, but the fear builds up as the story progresses. Another thing that works for the story is that it has shades of humour, and I loved the part where a ghost has a “quarter-life crisis”. However, there are some grammatical as well as editing errors that are there which can be corrected in the subsequent drafts. These do not affect the plot much, but do distract a reader. There are no plot holes, and the general flow of the story is quite smooth. The climax had a truly surprise element, and the buildup to that is great.
Coming to the characters, Jemimah has created a good detective who I would love to see solve some more cases in Victoria Brooks. She has been shown as a tough cop, but one who has her own share of troubles and secrets. Her humanity is very well explored in her ups and downs as well as her need for companionship and how that plays out as an arc. David as a character surprised me, and his love towards Victoria adds to her humanity as well. Coming to our paranormal friends, Jeremy, Harley and all the others have been given distinctive identities, and they have their own story that adds to the plot, rather than them just floating around and scaring people. The characters in the story do drive this story, and all their backstories actually form a critical part of the plot as a whole.

Oh my god! The book cover, i experienced horripilations every time I looked at it. I love reading horror books, this genre attracts me more than anything else, and for my interest this book was best suitable. This book has a very horrific story in it, a very thrilling one. The book starts off on a very soft note, giving details of Jessica and her husband, their ride and conversation about their baby, but suddenly their car comes to a halt and that's the point when a reader can sense the upcoming danger and horror situations. Soon Alex is nowhere to be traced and Jessica too leaves the car while walking behind an unknown child, enters in a school building, even though she do trace her husband but separation was indeed written in their Destiny. Why do they get separated is not more than how do they get separated !! And what was wrong in that school building!! From who do Alex ask Jessica to run !! How do the investigating officer solve this case?? How is the past incidents so crucially related to these multiple murders?? Will the officers be able to solve the cases before they run out if time ??
So many questions, for so many situations, and answer to them all is within the storyline of the book. I loved reading it. The author has done absolutely amazing work through narration. I couldn't get my eyes off the book whine reading it. It's too much absorbing. Even though there could be a better way of writing, a little editing in the writing style could make it best. But still it's a very amazing read. Multiple characters are here in the story, but that does not confuse the reader. Everything is finely described. It's pace is good too. Full of paranormal activities and horror element. Recommended.
🌸 Plot - Jessica and her husband, Alex were on their way back to their home NBC from a two day long conference. Suddenly their car breaks and they are stuck in the mid of the country side . Alex gets down and tries to look for help whereas Jessica waits for him . Suddenly it starts raining and worried Jessica gets down from the car and sees a boy who points towards the jungle . She follows him in the hope of finding Alex and finds herself standing in front of a burnt school building . And after a while peaceful slumber of many gets disturbed by the blood- curdling scream that echoed that night. This was just the beginning of what many may consider the end. Victoria Brooks , the homicide investigator is called for solving the case of Jessica and Alex. As she starts solving the case the body count increases. Will Victoria Brooks be able to solve the case ? How the dark past of Victoria is related to this?
🌸 This is a thriller based on horror and paranormal theme . The author is able to create suspense from the first page itself .As you move ahead you get tangled with a series of murders and every murder leads to some different clue. The story gets complex with each murder. The character of the investigating officer is very well crafted portraying an entirely different side of her personality . Her past and her family is an integral part of the story . The pace of the book is very well balanced and goes with sync as far as the placement of various characters is considered. It’s a cliffhanger and a must read for people who love horror.

''Dark retributions" this book has the power to shock you from the start to the end. This book has made everything powerful, from the cover page, which is too intriguing to look at. Yes, indeed, it is also significant to the ending page of the book. Every dialogue is robust. This book will just make you feel so content to pick it up, and moreover, this is a page-turner for sure. . Let me start with the main plot of the book. This book is about Mr. Alex Brighton and his wife, Mrs. Jessica Brighton. The story began when they both were going to meet their son, then their car stops, so Mr.Alex gets down the car to find a car mechanic. Then Jessica is in the vehicle it starts raining heavily. She is worried about her husband. There is no sign of him in the surroundings. Then she saw a boy near her car with a thought that boy was sent by Alex she gets down the car and moves forward, founds that Alex is dead in a few minutes Jessica is dead too. This case has been handed over to Victoria Brooks to solve this murder mystery, and she thinks this case is not usual. . The language is easy and best for beginners. The plot is not a straight liner, so it takes time to get into it, so don't hurry to know the story when you are just starting out with the book. This is a 200 pages book. It took me a while to get into the plot and relate to the characters. I wish the text is edited in a better way.
