Enjoy a fun, laugh-provoking travel book with a swampy Louisiana gal who romps through the Northern Hemisphere, allowing her destiny to become her guide! Marie France, who planned a two month jaunt through Europe, finds herself on the pulsating Hippie Trail in Kathmandu.
As a seeker, she has a two-fold quest; discovering the world and discovering herself. She studies Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism and Hedonism, with a bit of yoga. Her rollicking adventures cover 16 countries; including crossing the Sahara Desert, playing a lead role in a Spaghetti Western film and modeling on the catwalks of Paris.
She ends her journey where it began – on the Spanish Island of Ibiza, afloat in the Mediterranean. There she discovers the missing piece of her personal puzzle. This tale includes humor, adventure, mystery and revelation.
What an incredible read! Follow along this marvelous journey this gal took all around the most fascinating locales in the height of the 1970 heyday of the spiritual hippie culture, which had swept the globe! Traveling on her own, with no real agenda, she meets a most fascinating group of people and has the time of her life, including trekking the Himalayas to meditating in the center of The Great Pyramid! She searches for the answers to the great mysteries of life by immersing herself into the teachings of the great religions with some fascinating characters she meets along the way. A trip that was to last but a few months becomes one of years, as serendipity allows her to finance her journey through modeling stints and even being cast in some spaghetti westerns along her way! Narrated in first person with a great sense of humor and excellent history lessons along the way, she makes us feel as if we were there with here on this fantastic journey of self discovery and wonder. Not many single women, nor men for that matter, would have had neither the curiousity nor the courage to undertake such a journey alone, but she does it and does it famously! I highly recommend this book to all age groups; particularly those who came of age in the glorious 70’s!
This is an incredibly fun (and true) journey of someone who has lived an unusual life. The book keeps you moving from adventure to adventure, and I laughed through every single chapter. The illustrations are wonderful and the photos at the end of the book give a deeper perspective into the author. I look forward to her next book.
Hard to put this down, A lot of adventure, exploration, and everyday humor. A searching for spiritual truth that is well thought out and comprehensible to everyone. The well described countries, people and atmosphere make quite the story , and well written book. Step back in time and enjoy this journey.
