To prove she could be trusted was all Eliza wanted...
In the second book of The Sensorians Trilogy, the hunt for Rick continues, but the Sensorians have no idea what lengths he will go to in order to achieve his vision. Moreover, how much is Rick willing to risk to gain the support of his daughter?
Eliza wants to honour Zack's trust in her. But, will the draw of her charismatic father be too much to resist?
Zack wants to trust Eliza. But can he, when their dangerous plan risks everything he has ever worked for?
Can Zaphire trust Eliza in their budding relationship, when Eli makes a choice that could change it all?
With the future of the Sensorian community at stake, Eliza must choose between either her loyalty to them, or her father with all that he offers.
Be prepared: Trust and loyalty will have dramatic consequences with losses that nobody could have predicted...
This is the second instalment of a trilogy and in order to really appreciate the developing plot and characterisation I recommend you read the first book to fully immerse yourself.
Eliza, Zack and Zaphire find themselves in a tangled web of subterfuge, deceit and conflicted loyalties. Their enhanced senses provide them with little or no advantage as the dark world of the Sensorians dominate their teenage lives.
Who should they trust? What place in the world should they have? Will their senses help make the world a better? Is the ‘Will to power’ too overwhelming and will their elders tear their lives apart?
A book for a YA audience that will engage and entertain at a time when young people need to question the world around them. Recommended.
With her father threatening to overthrow the Sensorian way of life, Eli knew it would take more than words to prove her loyalty. She endured her punishment but it made little difference, and the month of isolation had been one of the hardest months she had ever had to endure. With family bonds being so powerful, there are those who doubt she could truly ever be one of them, especially since it is their mission to stop her father. Her father made no secret about wanting her on side. He wanted to being their kind out of the shadows, to build a world where crimes were answered for, and guilt easily detectable. It didn't sound like too bad a life. A life free from the army-like control of this life-style. When forced to chose between those who brought her clarity and the one who gave her life, Eli knows she will only get one chance to make this decision, but will it be the right one, and is she for the consequences?
The Sensorians: Trust is the second book in the gripping series by Brigitte Morse-Starkenburg. Having read the first book I was eager to get my hands on the second book. I really couldn't wait to find out what happened next, and I wasn't disappointed, trust and faith is pushed to its limited as dangerous plans and unexpected developments throw the Sensorian world into turmoil. Written from the alternating perspectives of Zack, Zaphire, and Eli you are thrust into the confusing world of love, emotions, and high stakes as nothing is quite what it seems. I really enjoy books with strong characters and I continue to enjoy watching these three grow and change as their relationships alter. With strong characters, a gripping plot, danger, chaos, and uncertainty this is a story that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Having read The Sensorians - The Awakening, I was eager to read this sequel. I understand it’s part of a trilogy too! It’s extremely well written. There is a nice balance of action, thrilling scenes as well as a developing love story between two of the central characters.
The story is told from various viewpoints, from Zack, to Eliza and Zaphire. There are lots of edge on your seat moments and the story ends superbly, ready for the next book.
The author has done an excellent job of scene building. The characters are well developed and it is good to read how Eliza has developed in her skills as a Sensorian. Highly recommended!
Read in a book club, The Sensorians: Trust is the second book in this series. I did feel critical back story was missing in the beginning of the story, but as I read further, I was enlightened.
The character development in this story is exceptional. I love how the author depicted each of the characters’ heightened senses. Their individual emotions leap off the page and keep you reading, wanting more. Each setting description is effectively detailed without being overemphasized, especially the action scenes.
The plot is unique and imaginative, and the love triangle trope draws readers in even further. However, I do think Zaphyr’s teen-aged angst is a bit excessive and repetitive.
This book is full of love for family and friends, betrayal, deception, and trust. Quite a combination of opposite actions and emotions, which keeps you turning the pages until … THE CLIFFHANGER!
After the previous book, Eliza emerges from her punishment from isolation. Trying to get back to normal she soon finds out that her dad, Rick leader of the rival group of Sensorians who have plans to take country of humankind is planning something dangerous. With Markus’s rules too restrictive there is no hope for them to find out what is going on. That is before Eliza cooks up a audacious and dangerous plan to infiltrate her dad’s base of operations and to get him to trust her. But this could ostracise her from everyone she loves if it goes wrong. People’s lives are put in danger and the Sensorian community as a whole could be in danger. As with the previous book this is a fast paced YA fantasy that thunders along like an express train with some a lot of tension and threat built in.
I read the first book in this series last year, and definitely enjoyed it. Once I picked up this book, I really couldn’t put it down. I just had to keep reading to know what happens next. I love the idea of the Sensorians, those humans who have increased sensitivity to not just physical stimuli but to emotions as well. And the conflict between those who believed they should work on the shadows, remaining a secret from most of the world and those who wanted to bring everything out into the open is brilliant.
My only issue is that Eliza’s consistent pushing against the rules she claims to understand can become a little irritating. Then I have to remind myself that she is still a teenager, and really, her actions are much more realistic set against how many teens would act normally. It’s the clash of the very adult “missions” and their consequences versus the maturity level of that particular age group that sometimes trip me up.
Overall though, I very much enjoyed this book, even more so than the first. I’m looking forward to reading the next.
Book two in the series, TRUST is a fun adventure with a backdrop of romance. The author switches POV between the main characters which allows the reader to get to know the characters personalities as well as their motivations. The story is intriguing and, as with book one, book two has an ending that leads me to want to read book 3, the final in the series. The idea of the Sensorians being a group of people with heightened sensory perceptions is such an interesting concept, and they are training to be a like a 00-agents (i.e. 007) using their senses to outsmart and outplay adversaries. Fun, easy, intriguing read and perfect for a YA audience.
Kicks the series into top gear. A great follow up to book one of the series. Fantastic characters and a well-thought-out plot. The tension builds and builds. Hope there is a book three. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed reading about Eliza in the first book and it's good to see her again. I love how Trust goes in depth about building up the main characters and then it gets into some action. Only the ending could have been a little better. I hope there is a part 3 to solve t9hat.
THE SENSORIANS: TRUST by Brigitte Morse Starkenburg is the second book of the series and another thrilling read in that it’s just as gripping as the first novel. The characters are realistic but complex in the Awakenings and slightly more so in Trust. But it’s a well thought out plot that rolls on nicely from chapter to chapter, keeping you wanting to know what happens. This author has an amazing imagination and her novel is exceptionally well written. I recommend you read it. This novel is a great read. 5 stars. Posted by Elijah, son of Michael S.
This is the sequel to the brilliant Sensorians; Awakening and it continues the story of Eliza as she accepts her gift and makes a life for herself within the community. But her father is still around and she is conflicted by what she wants and what she has to do. The relationship between her and Zaphire is also continuing to grow but she still has feelings for Zaph's brother, Zack. The brilliance of this story is the fact that because everyone can sense emotions no one can lie. This makes the dynamics of even the most causal relationship intricate and author has conveyed this so well. Trust ends with this part of the story resolved but implies a new one is about to begin and I cannot wait to read it!
This book is such a good one just like the last one! Eliza was such an interesting character, and I liked how it started out from where the last book to place. Sensorians are such a unique form of people. Eliza got into such trouble, and she had to pay the price. Now she is doing the same dance all over again! Well written, and formatted. Also the romantic triangle between Eliza....Zaphyr...and Zach. Lets hope this can be figured out! Loved this one, and I hope there is going to be a third book!
Worth the wait but now desperate for the third instalment!
I was so excited to get the 2nd book of the trilogy & it didn’t disappoint ! The characters become in bedded into your psyche - one minute you love them, next you’re infuriated! The story is unfolding nicely with Elizas relationship with her father developing and then her struggle with who to be loyal to. I can not wait to read the third book and see where this story concludes . Highly recommend reading both books then eagerly waiting for the third! Hurry up author!
Having read the first book in the series, I was waiting in anticipation for the second book in the series and it delivered. The author has a nice easy style that allows the tensions to simmer to a boil and not just impact writing. The structure was very well set with alternating chapters headed by the character; this allowed the story to be segmented in delivering what could be, by a less talented writer, a complicated story to follow. The characters, Zack, Zaphire and Eliza are complex as in the first book. Eliza has decisions has to make decisions as she fights for the trust of Jack and Zaphire as she works on building the relationship with him. This is all offset by her struggle to choose between them and her father, great read. I would recommend the books in order to get the full impact of the stories. I recommend both books strongly
The second book in the Sensorians trilogy builds on the first book in many ways. The first 20% of this novel develops the characters of Zack, Zaphire and Eliza, but also pulls the reader in deeper to the culture of Markus' compound. From there on, the story develops and unfolds, initially as a simmer but like as Rick re-emerges onto the scene, Eliza undertakes a bold mission to uncover her own father. There are many nuances relating to personal relationships and their complexities in this incredibly well written story. It is a credit to the author that such a complex weave is seamlessly delivered through first persons points of view. I have read several novels from better known authors writing in this style who failed to pull this off so well. This is the second book of a trilogy so you really should read book one first. I thoroughly recommend this series so far.
If you liked The Sensorians: Awakening you will enjoy this even more. With this book building on the scene and character building from the first book it grew in depth and pace. The author continued using new chapters to rotate the viewpoint through the three leading characters to great effect. The characters were deep and nuanced which balanced out with the emotionally intricate storyline. I look forward to reading a third book in this series and thoroughly recommend this one.
I loved the first book and I cant say enough about book 2.
The sensorians are people with a gift that allows them to have extra strong sensories. Like emotions. Sense of smells. Eye sight.
I'm on the spectrum and I cant help but relate to these characters on so many levels.
2nd book starts with Eliza finishing off her punishment and then immediately getting into more trouble.
The love between Eliza, Zaphyr and Zach is so strong and yet you will feel the conflicting feelings coming from the book. They all love eachother. It's a love triangle trope that many will love. I know I did. But ugh, how difficult. You want them all to be happy but its hard. It's so hard to see their struggles on the page. I just want to help them.
Throughout the book my heart pained as Eliza kept making difficult decisions regarding Zaphyr and her father and the Senorian organization she is with. You can really feel the struggle she is in. And the consequences for her decisions are large.
The ending both left me satisfied and wanting more. I felt that the punishments were satisfactory from Zaphyrs perspective but man, it pained my heart. And then the big reveal of "check your phones!" Omg. I need the 3rd book ASAP.
I picked up Trust as soon as I finished the first book in the series, Awakening, and wasn't disappointed. This time Eliza is brought more into focus. Trust is gained and lost as she makes choices. Some constants are brought from the first book in terms of how the Sensorian community operates and how the main characters behave. However, a couple of unexpected elements bring the right amount of real-life and down-to-earth emotions. The cliffhanger ending leaves you wanting for more, but there are plenty of resolves by then to make it a satisfying ending. Looking forward to the next book in the series or any other book by this author!
All Eliza wanted was to be trusted. She's been thrown head-first into this new community of people with gifts like hers, and now, they want her to prove she's on their side.
After a month of isolation, Eliza's read to face the world again. This time, though, she's going to take the hunt for her father Rick into her own hands. When she hatches a plan to infiltrate his headquarters, things will quickly get out of hand.
People close to her will be hurt, and the consequences for her actions will be irreversible. Will it be worth it? Will she gain the trust she so desperately wants?
I love Starkenburg's style. I've reviewed her book before, and I cannot iterate enough how much I LOVE this simplistic, yet emotional style of writing. It isn't draggy with the descriptions but you can still see clearly the setting and emotions in every single line. Starkenburg really has done it again with a very well-written book. I absolutely gobbled this book down. No regrets at all.
I would complain about the ending a little bit more, but if you're a reader who can easily pick one book up after another, you will not complain about the way the end is formatted. It's a massive cliff-hanger, and I'm just mad that Book 3 isn't out yet. LOL So, my dislike there is a little bit bias.
An enjoyable sequel in the sensorian series, sees Eliza go off on her mission, unravelling bonds and testing the trust of all those around her! This was an easy and enjoyable read, having more action than the previous club it left you on your goes wanting more! Especially after that ending! Would highly recommend this for anyone! Read as part of a book club.
So…yes, as soon as I finished book one, I went straight on and downloaded book two. I just couldn’t help myself. Again, I read it within a day and found the same perfect style of easy reading that I did with book 1. This book is so much more action-orientated than book one. It is truly gripping. Eliza, now part of the Sentorian community, has to deal with her punishment and her new relationship with Zaphire. She has to find her own way in the group while battling her issues that stem from her father and his world domination plan. I truly feel for Eliza in this book as she finally seems to be in control of her amazing gift, and has a solid friendship group. She is happy and having fun with her new girlfriend, and this all gets thrown into jeopardy. I won’t give any spoilers, but this is a truly gripping read. I wanted to keep turning the page, I wanted to know what would happen. Zach again is pretty much an angry guy. He is having to deal with his own feelings for Eliza while watching as his sister falls deeper in love. With drama, tears and thrills, this is one to read, especially if you loved book one as much as I did. I will be excitedly waiting for book three!
After serving her punishment in total isolation, where rules were incredibly strict, Eliza was looking forward, with trepidation, to seeing and communicating with people again, especially Zaphire. Planning her future, a difficult decision ensued. Should she become a loyal Sensorian or return to life with her father. This is the second book in this series and it certainly didn't disappoint. A unique and creative plot where the intensity and suspense builds chapter by chapter. When questioned, there is no room for lies as the gift the Sensorians possess see through any facard. However, their heightened sensitivity also pick up others feelings, which can hit them like a punch in the face with a reality so intense you cannot deny it or argue its truth. Full of love, betrayal, deceipt, bribary and trust, this storyline is full of unexpected shocks and suprises which certainly keeps you turning those pages. Great read!
Brigitte Morse-Starkenburg has totally nailed the second offering in The Sensorians series. Trust moves the story forward in a fluid and gripping way, but doesn’t read as just an extension to book one, more a ladder taking the story to the next level!
The plot is intriguing and unique, with the fantasy component believable enough to validate the story. Who hasn’t, especially when younger, felt they had heightened perceptions of the world around them, their own lives, loves and fears?
The main characters share a developing love interest in each other, which is delicately explored - as is family ties versus friendships versus romantic relationships. Does blood run thicker than water?
All you could ask for, and more, from a young adult fantasy. High recommended
Having read the first in this series, I was eager to read some more and The Sensorians: Trust left me far from disappointed. Yet again, I found an enjoyable read with characters ever developing, the narrative delivered with absolute skill while the story unfolded with elegant ease. Another well-paced plot, an interesting theme with emotions and drama coupled with danger, and ensuring the reader keeps turning the pages. A series to recommend, a talented author, and I for one, am looking forward to reading the third in this series.
Oh wow, I think this book is even better than the first book. The author cleverly crafts three fantastic characters Zack, Zaphine, and Eliza, that you want to find out what path they will choose. Eliza really has to decide where her loyalties lie. I am really looking forward to the third book, hope it's out soon.

This second book in the Sensorian series picks up exactly where book 1 left off. It’s been several months since I read that first book and sometimes, it can take a while to get back into a story like this, getting to know the characters and storyline again. That was certainly not the case here. The characters, especially Eliza, Zack and Zapphire, are clear and distinct three dimensional and unforgettable. The relationship between them, with Eliza’s deep feelings for the two siblings, drives the narrative forward. In fact, the first part of the book very much focuses on the character work before introducing a plot that has far-reaching consequences for them all. Eliza is strong-willed and independent in a way that doesn’t always fit well with the highly ordered and disciplined organisation. Her influence on Zack persuades him to go along with a high-risk plan to catch their enemy – Eliza’s father – that operates outside the usual rules. Their only chance of success lies in restricting information, hiding and lying to people. Abusing their trust. This puts a severe strain on Eliza’s relationships with those she loves. I love a character driven plot, and that’s what the author gives us in this book. Exploring concepts of duty and loyalty, and what those things can drive a person to do in extreme situations. As with book 1, the ending is a slightly odd writing choice. I hesitate to use the word ‘cliffhanger’ because that usually involves building to a climax, whereas this came out of nowhere and ended abruptly. Still, I can’t possibly give anything less than 5 stars overall, and I look forward to reading Book 3.
