Only one android is human enough to free the city of Lundun.

The Postman, second-generation android, is one delivery away from retiring. But when a new crime boss forces him to deliver one last package, to keep a head on his shoulders, the Postman must deliver a human called Lola.

Not only have androids expelled humans from the city, but having witnessed humans kill the woman he loved, having to deliver one is the last thing the Postman needs.

Spectrum Worlds, the first book in The Cyberpunk Uploads series, is set in a sprawling, neon-lit Lundun of 2118, walled to keep androids in and to keep humans out. Caught between an underground mafia called The Brotherhood and the state-sponsored corporation, Fr.e.dom, the Postman doesn’t stand a chance.

That is, until he discovers the spectrum...

“Spectrum Worlds” (The Cyberpunk Uploads, Book 1) by Seth Rain is an extraordinary intelligent dark tale that perfectly lines up with great dystopian archetypes such as “Blade Runner”, “Dark Angel” or even “Ghost in the Shell”.

“Spectrum Worlds” is set in 2118 in Lundun (a futuristic version of London), in which androids have taken over society and exiled humanity outside the boundaries of the city. The Postman, who had refused to take a personalized name, and it’s known by his job description, is about to retire, when he is forced to take on a final assignment, delivering a human to a given location. Humans are a very dangerous commodity to transport, but not even Postman with all his experience can begin to imagine the consequences of this delivery, which will change its life and perspectives forever. The story develops rapidly, unearthing a web of intrigue and secrecy whose ramifications would shake the very fundamentals of Lundun society.

Seth Rain has an uncanny gift for dystopian writing, this world is carefully crafted, logical and plausible. All characters possess a multidimensional, unique and individual personality, not an easy feat to achieve, when writing androids; but one that Seth Rain masters so easily, that the reader will ‘forget’ in a blink, that these characters are supposed to be second-generation cybernetic beings going through the same struggles as their flesh counterparts, when trying to find the meaning of their own existence. Despite its very deep meaning and elaborated plot, the story is first and foremost a veritable fast-paced, action-filled, page-turner that keeps the reader on the edge of the seat, feverish turning the pages, finding answers and brand-new questions on the process…until the very satisfying end, that manages both, fulfill the reader’s expectations and have him already asking for a next installment.

The first book in The Cyberpunk Uploads series.

Having just been put through the ultimate in tedious and pointless interruptions to story flow and action scenes when i read The Heartstrikers series, to sit and read this book was an absolute pleasure.   Yes folks, if you really like a high paced, non-stop, story line then this just might be what you're looking for.

On top of the fast flowing story it's also a rather good story.   We essentially have a battle royale going between three groups: androids who hate humans and want to eradicate and/or enslave them, humans who want to do the same to androids, and then there's the odd-ball androids and humans out in left field who think we can all live peacefully and happily together ever after.   Centre it all in the London of the future, known as Lundun, and shove our main protagonist, The Postman, right in the middle of all this is.

The most astute reader will get to realise by the end of the book that there really isn't anyone The Postman can trust, android or human, everyone seems to have agendas and secrets and i'm really looking forward to learning more in the next book, Messiah Online , which i dove straight into without any hesitation.

One of the polarities I see in science fiction novels is between "carefully-crafted scientific extrapolation" on the one pole and "literary or metaphorical" stories on the other. I generally like my SF to have a fair amount of plausible explanation for what goes on. If that is your bag, this is probably not a novel for you.

I was often frustrated by the lack of detail and clarity. The androids act and emote like humans. Yet they have "CPUs" and can "upload." Yet they eat and drink regular food, and bullets can kill them. How do their "solar fusion" bikes work? How did this society evolve, exactly? And of course the dreaded, "If x is true, why don't the characters just do y and solve the plot problem?" Really frustrating.

And yet, I really enjoyed the straightforward writing and action-packed plot. And I was SO intrigued by the protagonist, his feelings, and his gradual growth to self-awareness, not to mention the dribs and drabs of poetry and philosophy, that I kept reading till the end.

Literary stuff. See what I mean? If THAT sort of SF is your bag, you're liable to really like this one.

Received as an ARC copy, this is an honest review. Set in futuristic London called 'Lundun'; one android simply calling himself Postman, is one step from making a final delivery and retire from job. Only instead the Postman will find himself caught up in a fiery revolution to free Lundun and the president androids from the dominating force of F. R. E. DOM. Competitive agendas and destructive means to accomplish it, the Postman fights to maintain his own will as outside threaten to control him like a marionette to their own ends. As the world he understands collapses around him, the Postman discovers dark and haunting secrets regarding Mia, the love of his life. Spectrum Worlds is an impressive, enthralling beginning of a new series that will draw you in with its action and fluid narrative style, highly recommended.

'He wasn't sure he'd experienced bliss for some time. But ignorance had certainly kept him safe.'

The Postman a second generation android has had enough of being a Postman and is retiring after one last job. But a man of his skills and talents is not so easily forgotten about.

Drawn into a world of revolution and deceit, The Postman has to decide whether humanity is worth working with.

From the start this was a gripping and fantastically vivid world! Within pages you love the Postman and what he stands for.

With a few unexpected reveals like the Spectrum Worlds and Shadows, this first chapter of the series grips you with everything it has.

Full of everything you could ask for and leaves you wanting more 👌

We are just beginning to tackle the first question and we currently attribute the others to primates. Although we still think of them beneath us. Crows and Ravens are considered to be very intelligent although they don’t communicate with us. We are now creating all sort of things using artificial intelligence. Seth Rain gives us a story that probes the question of when that intelligence is no longer artificial? When does it become sentient? This is a story that brings a new look at the dilemma postulated by Isaac Asimov seventy years ago. It is full of love and hate, intrigue and betrayal, and self-identity and awareness.

Interesting enough, lots of potential, worth a read. I will probably read the next but it would need to fill out the world more than this to keep me hooked. So much just does not make sense. Oh, the city is rioting! Imploding! Power vacuum! Streets not safe! I will just nip down to that cafe down the street and meet my buddy who is working on a story there. Burger and a coffee please miss, glad you braved the chaos and violence to serve us today.
Also...it's billed as Cyberpunk but it's not really. More like I-Robot tbh.
Still, like I say, worth a read.

What has more value, a human or an android? This is one of the main themes in this new series.

The Postman is an android with one simple mission - to retire. Then everything changes. Who to trust? What is real? What is the meaning of existence? Why is there so much hate? Why can't there be peace between humans and androids?

So many questions and yet power and fear are the two driving forces.

Well-written with great characters and world-building make this a compelling and excellent read.

Highly recommended.

Seth Rain has done it yet again! He’s created a world with believable characters in a realistic setting. In a world where androids and humans exist, can one be important than the other. When the Postman is due to retire, circumstances force him to rethink his pre-existing ideas. Can he and his companions really alter the future of these two species? Another fantastic story from the amazing writer and I can’t wait the next instalment!

This book should also become a movie. The description of the scenes, the spectrum, the details about androids and humans, fantastic. The postman is a great main character and I think he has a lot of depth (for an android... Hehe). There is a lot of motivation and questions about life and love and equality. It is very well written and I am excited to read the next book.

I received this book as an ARC and am leaving my review voluntarily.

A reluctant hero

We enter a world of Androids just after a conflict which separated the Androids from the humans. Some characters think the two have to be separate. Others think Androids and humans can live together. Our hero doesn't know what to think then begins to discover for himself. The characters are well-developed. The story is interesting and the first book ends with intriguing ideas for the next book.

Totally awesome read

Fast paced, unputdownable, addictive and very action packed. Reminds me of the original Blade runner movie type feel to this world the characters are in. was completely amazed by this original story, can't wait to read the next book in the series. Would highly recommend reading this, it was brilliant.

Fun read

I wasn't sure if this would be any good, it's a bit of a tired premise after all - androids v. humans, but it was pretty good. The world building works, the plot moves along at a good pace, and the Postman is believable and likeable.
I have immediately downloaded the next in the series to see what happens next.

Great fun

I enjoyed this foray into a cyberpunk world, reminiscent of Blade Runner but with Seth Rain's own twist. He did a good job of creating memorable characters, a good story line and lots of action. If you like cyberpunk, I'm sure you will enjoy this novel. I look forward to the rest of the series.

Androids and humans

I read some sci-fi but it's not a genre I go to often but this was a very good first of a series. Interesting story and characters. Will certainly read more. Well written.

A decent effort

Rambling and implausible, with characters that at best strain credulity. Imaginative to the point of absurdity... and what, precisely, is"Fr.e.dom?
