Rescued by the Alien Viking

Rate this book
A hunky alien from a barbaric race. A human so desperate to flee her planet that she enrols in the Vikingr mail order bride program.

What could possibly go wrong?

The Earth is a desolate wasteland, taken over by space snakes determined to kill off humankind one woman at a time. However, there is one option in order to be free of the wretched place: agree to become a mail order bride for the fierce breed of Vikingr aliens.

Tora is so desperate to leave the treacherous planet that she signs up to marry an alien that she has never actually met. Ragnex is just happy to finally be involved in something more than work.

It seems like a good idea to Tora at first—even if the Vikingr have a certain reputation for being a brutal race. Known throughout the universe as fierce and battle-hungry, it is a ruse that these aliens are determined to keep in order to protect their planet from further plundering.

But, can Tora chip away at Ragnex’s harsh exterior to find the man beneath the beast?

If you desire a happily ever after with unbelievably hot alien Vikings, no cheating, and steamy sex scenes then grab your copy today.

Exciting

Where has Lucee Joie been all my reading life? I have always been fascinated with the Viking lore and she has come up with alien Vikings and I love them! This in the first book in the series and I can tell it will be an exciting, steamy, action packed series. The world building is great and the characters elicit an investment in their well-being and a HEA. I look forward to Book Two!

The attraction of the main characters is present from the first meeting, even before Tora joined the bride program. The way the author describes their joining, it’s as if fireworks are exploding. The author doesn’t stop here, oh no, she puts barriers and dangers in their path making everything so exciting you can’t help but keep reading trying to find out what will happen next.

Look. It is what it is… Will it win awards? Probably not, but is it fun and easy to read? And does it scratch a trash read itch? You bet it does!!! It had heart and courage and of course a good dose of obsessive Insta love too! Read it and just enjoy it! Lol.

Monstrous worms or marrying into a brutal race?

Human women have 2 choices in life now- stay on Earth, where since humans brought back larvae of a monster worm that only infects women to kill them after the young use them as a host life isn't so great, or make use of a mail order bride program that the only recipients of human women are a race of aliens so brutal the worms might be better. Great options, right? Tora has dealt with the worms, declining human populations, her friends being killed, her mom ditching her for a marriage of her own and not looking back, and now is ready- after her latest loss- to marry in hopes that she can persuade the Vikingr to take in more humans, and not just women. But, the descriptions she's heard about these guys don't begin to do them justice. No one mentioned they had snakes for hair!

Spoilers ahead.
There's so very little world building. Humans were curious, stupid and brought their own doom planetside. I'm guessing that while they may not use men as hosts these worms are huge and need to eat something. It's never stated why humanity fell, or how long ago it happened. Humans are smart... usually. So how did they not create sanctuary cities, or better weapons to keep from being killed or becoming hosts? How were women not immediately moved to safety so humans wouldn't die out? Big walls, hook into a natural gas line for flames spaced along the walls as deterrent, and some concrete if they're burrowing monsters (something never stated but must be because other humans would have hunted and killed these things in retribution). Also, how did the Vikingr make contact? There's no mention of them needing women. And 1 Vikingr has several human wives, in fact. There's a brief mention of the Vikingr being from human Vikings who made it into space but no mention of why they appear so different. Evolving to adapt to their environment would explain some changes, but not how (or why) they now have near sentient reptilian hair. Did they crossbreed with another race? How exactly did bronze age humans manage to make it through the atmosphere and into space? It would have been more likely that they were interesting to observing aliens and select Norse were taken in by them. Readers are left with so many questions. It looks like this is going to be primarily character driven, but with insta-love/lust and next to no bonding outside the bedroom. For those looking for a quick and light read between heavier tales, this would suit. I did enjoy the jokes the Vikingr played on others.

RANT AND SPOILERS AHEAD.

So, I don’t know if this is a case of the author just not knowing enough about their craft, or if their talented but lazy…?

This has decent dialogue, good settings, an intersecting concept, even a good pace.

The one glaring problem?
It’s a hot mess!!

It’s so filled with plot holes, inconsistencies, typos, grammatical errors, and just totally obvious mistakes!!

1. The great threat on Earth only hunts women. So off course the ‘women’ are out scrounging and in danger.
After one fails to make it back, the men go out….

2. We know about the alien worms, and that the rich left for other worlds, and then the major cities were firebombed.
Don’t know by who or why.

3. The aliens are somehow linked to Vikings, don’t know how, as they are genetically different. But they have the same culture, myths, and terminology. Surrreeee, whatever.

4. The Viking aliens world is the ONLY world with a metal needed for space travel (surrreeeee, whatever). Don’t know how other, older species first travelled?
Don’t know how they’re not so insanely rich to be able to buy, build, protect themselves as needed?
Nope, they rely on ‘reputation’ and, ‘rumour’.

5. The bad guy takes the FMC hostage, and in front of the MMC, escapes in an Escape Pod…
There are 3 ships, all in working order…

Our hero gets in another Escape Pod to chase after… WTF!?

So, there’s like, 15% left, and I seriously just CAN’T.

It’s like the author just spontaneously wrote this without bothering with plausibility, continuity (the FMC touched the MMC’s hair for the first time, twice), or plot (the baddie imprisons, chases, and kidnaps the FMC, all to just indifferently throw her away to die, without purpose or profit, doesn’t even stay to watch or make sure).
Just added in whatever sounded good in the moment, and never went back to edit at all.
There’s heaps more, but you get the idea.

Worse part of all, it all sounds really good on the surface. Provided you don’t use any reason or logic.

WHAT A WASTE!

I give this book 3.5 stars rounded to 4 out of 5. My first beef is the title. "Sold To The Alien Viking". There was no sale. The female character, Tora, volunteered for the Mail Order Bride Program and the commander of the ship gives the next bride in the program to Ragnex, one of the command's best Vikings. So maybe "Given to the Alien Viking".

Ragnex goes to Earth, a now devasted planet in search of lindworms for their blubber. Lindworms are very dangerous creatures. For human females, even a greater danger, as they can plant their eggs inside them, leaving them to incubate. The birth of the ram kills the host immediately. Ragnex stumbles across Tora as she and a friend try to outrun a lindworm. Tora, separated from her friend, hides in an old building where she hopes to escape the lindworm and the Viking. She has heard enough harrowing tales about the Vikings to consider them equally dangerous.

There were some really good parts to the story, like the Viking rune markings, but there wasn't much detail in this area for Book 1. I felt that was a missed opportunity toward world building. The plot seems good and sets things up for the second book, but I was just left wanting.

This book was about 3.7 ⭐️s for me. Some really good things, some not so good things.

The not so good things… everything was really rushed, I just wanted more time with the characters actually interacting and learning about each other. Even the conflict wrapped up very quickly. The first sex scene had the FL drunk which I don’t appreciate. It’s good she didn’t regret it, but the ML was trying to hold back but ultimately gave in so it made his attempt at restraint mean nothing.

Now the good things! I really liked the characters! Tora’s background was believable and interesting and she made for a great lead to see the world through. Ragnex was just a good guy all around, every time I read from his POV it was clear he had some inner conflict going on with the way his people handle things and just wanted to do the right thing by everyone. The descriptions of the world were interesting, very post apocalyptic. I liked the setup for the story a lot. The Vikingr race was interesting and a lot was explained about them but not in a way that was overwhelming, just enough to make me want to keep learning about them. I appreciate this author’s writing style, it’s very descriptive and detailed but not overwhelming or slow or boring. It’s clear she just knows how to tell a great story.

DNF - quit at 56%
I think this read a bit like fanfic or maybe a very young writer, as it just was to easy, or uncomplicated. This just did not hold my attention, I got bored with the plot when I couldn’t find the point to make their relationship believable, but tried to force myself to continue, ending up giving up. There are definitely plot holes & it seems everything is just too easy between the main characters. She goes from terrified of the alien Vikings to just complacent & accepting of them within a day. Even the slim chance that the alien she ends up with is the one she saw the day before just seemed to easy. I wanted to like the couple but just couldn’t get behind them, cause there’s not a lot of character development to make them matter in my mind. I deleted this from my Kindle library.

At my age (60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Hm nope. This was super weird for me. The plot had a tiny bit of potential but once we set up the MCs in their arranged marriage it was like the author abandoned it.

The writing was juvenile and unpolished. It didn't flow well at all. These alien Vikings were far too modern for my taste in their speak and thought. Neither character had much substance. The forced emotions and feelings they supposedly felt for one another came across as flat and boring. Unrealistic.

I couldn't understand how this heroine Tora went from being scared of the Vikings and their mail-order bride program especially because the Vikings had continued to perpetuate this false narrative that they were ruthless raping and conquering villains to protect themselves. And yet she just relaxes with him, laughs, gets drunk, drools over him and gets right down to fucking within 2 days. Sureeee.

I hated it. ✌🏻

Almost okay

It takes a special kind of book for me to quit it within 26 pages of the end. I read a free prequel that was really good, and now I'm disappointed.

The book starts with the mail order bride program in place, and I feel like I missed something, even though I read a prequel. We are immediately thrown into a dangerous situation, which draws you in. The protagonists seem nice enough. The whole setup with the lindworms and the alien vikings is so silly, this story cannot qualify as sci fi.

Then there's some action on the ship. It was a little silly, but fine.

Then, the end comes and you realize the protagonists are stupid and barely trying to solve their own problems. There is no character growth or competence displayed. I'm just going to imagine a lindworm ate them both.

Earth has been overrun by space snakes which lay their eggs in human women, leading to their prolonged and gruesome deaths. The landscape is barren and arid, and it’s a struggle for the remaining humans to survive. Cheerful stuff. That’s the world that our FMC, Tora, lives in. There is a viking-esque race of aliens who cultivate a barbaric reputation in order to protect their planet from a predatory galactic alliance, and they have a mail order bride program open to human women. Tora is at the end of her rope trying to scrape by on Earth and offers herself as a bride so she can escape Earth and try to help the humans she’s leaving behind.

I’ll keep this short because I just didn’t like this book. It had an interesting premise and the start was fairly intriguing , but the plot quickly unravels. There are so many plot holes and a lack of development in the world building and between the couple. Tora basically sees Ragnex, her new hubby, forgets about his people’s terrible reputation and decides she’d like to bang his brains out. The motivations of the ‘villain’ didn’t make a lot of sense. When Ragnex tries to rescue Tora from said villain, he does it by trying to blow up the ship that she’s on. Like…she would have blown up too, my man.

I don’t ask for a lot when I read an alien romance novella, but this one really didn’t work for me.

Space Vikings!! What's not to love. The Vikingr resemble the Vikings of Earth and their intergalactic reputation showcases their fierce nature. Earth is bleak and desolate, overrun by giant space snakes. While scavenging to survive, Tora has a chance encounter with a Vikingr. She's both inexplicably drawn to him and fears him. Desperate, lonely and guilt-ridden, Tora applies to bride program. To her happy surprise, she's matched with Ragnex - the alien she met before. Leaving her home and the closest thing she has to family, she's taken aboard the Ragnex ship. They discover they're not just physically compatible but are fated mates. Enjoy action and sexy times. This is the first in what looks to be a promising series with a larger mystery and intriguing secondary characters.

A destroyed Earth still holds those too poor to escape, ravaged by lindworms, hunted by Vikingr for their blubber.

For some, the feared Vikingr are a possible escape, through the mail order bride program. After a near miss with a lindworm and losing her best friend to it, Tora volunteers for the program, and is matched with Ragnex. They form a bond, quickly, and something new happens, she gains a set of runes on her arms just like his, except hers show her heritage to be from Valkyries instead of through Woden. These runes infuriate the captain who grabs Tora and imprison her and sends Ragnex off on a death mission. Will they find death other again? Can they overthrow the crimes captain?

... "always fight for my family."

Tora has trust issues... her Mom got off Earth when she realized staying was like a death sentence, but left her daughter behind. Tora isn't one to repeat her mother's mistakes.

Ragnex is a tough warrior, fierce in battle against lindworms, always ready to fight for and defend a family member. This Alien sounds a little too good to be true for Tora... oh, wait, did we mention his species the Vikingr are reputed to be the most violent species in the galaxy?

This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read stands alone, and launches a series where two separate communities come together to rescue one another from very different, yet equally concerning, threats.

Good

Left behind on a devastated Earth, Tora is struggling to survive. After one close call too many, she decides to opt for the Mail Order Bride program, and is matched to one of the Vikingr aliens, Ragnex.
Trying to get used to that is one thing, but not everyone is equally happy with the turn of events, and both Tora and Ragnex will have to fight against the odds…

An enjoyable sci-fi romance, set in the Galactic Union universe, and featuring an alien race with connections to the vikings on earth.
Featuring monstrous alien worms, and corrupt alien beings as well as struggling humans, there is plenty of action, adventure, and romance for the sci-fi romance fans out there!

What a delightful story

Tora has heard so many rumors about the Vikingr but when she comes face to face with one, she's not afraid. Curious n slightly attracted to him but not afraid. After escaping from the Lindworm, she contacts them to enter their bride program thinking about the off chance of again meeting the alien.
Regnak is given permission by his Jarl to wed the human. He's hoping that it's the one he met as they hunted the Lindworm. Utterly fascinated by her looks n her fearlessness, she excites him more than any female has ever done before. Even his scarli has been attracted to her. What's also fascinating is the way his runes light up being close to her.
The story was fast paced n kept your interest.

I just read this book. The book is short so from me it's 4*.

The story is really good, no angst, an interesting concept involving vikings, viking descendants and runes. I wish there would be more written about it. A hea in a way, because the viking saga continues and I'll be reading it all.

Ragnex and Tora have great chemistry, they both enjoy each other and I really liked her not being so shy and timid but taking what she wants. And I admit I loved reading him get off on pain a bit (well hello there). 😆

Other than that, I'd like to read more about their smexy times but it was so shoooort.

A mail order bride in Tora

This is an easy read where we find Earth is no longer a safe or good place. There are alien worms trying to use women’s bodies as hosts. Tora and her friend Lottie are out scavenging for a battery or other useful items. Along the way Tora runs into a Galactic Viking Ragnex, who helps her get away from one of the alien worms. Ragnex is a seasoned warrior who is working to make things better for his people and humans. He felt a connection with Tora, but will their paths cross again? There is a happy for now ending, but it seems the storyline will continue in the next book. Read On!

This book is part of a series. It is the first book in the series that I have read,so it can be read as a stand alone, but It would have been a much better story if I had read it in order. I missed a bit doing it this way.
Earth is a wasteland, the privileged have left for the colonies in space. The rest of the humans scrape and fight to survive. The arrival of the aliens offers hope until their lies come to life. Now it's a toss up. Become an incubator that will be ripped apart from the inside or a sex slave.

Another Great Read in This Series.

Wow. Had me worried at one point but such a short exciting read. Loved their story and journey to finally enjoy their own HEA. Tora was plucky enough to put herself forward for the bride program and meets Ragnex. They connect and enjoy brief moments together before that creep Leke interferes and creates havoc. I loved that Tora actually has some viking links to her past and hope we learn more about that one day. So.. I am now up to date with this series and look forward to more.

Really badly done

In the first chapter the FMC and a friend are trying to steal a battery . Bad worms are heading their way, the friend leaves first then the FMC but somehow the friend is the one that supposedly gets caught...hum. The Vikingr's taunt her from outside the door where she is hiding and she can't understand them but later she's talking to them via radio and understands everything they say. This was just not thought out at all. I can suspend belief but not all the way to stupidity.

I liked this book overall and particularly liked Ragnex’s parents. It’s an interesting premise and I’m very curious to see where the overarching plot goes. My biggest gripe is that I feel as though Tora came around to the idea of marrying and sleeping with Ragnex very quickly considering how wary she was about the whole thing. It was like one minute she’s terrified of him and then after a five minute conversation is thrilled with the whole thing. Chalk it up to fated mate attraction. I was just expecting a bit more of a “get to know him and realize he’s a great guy” phase.

Good Plot, Needs Editing

I enjoyed the plot, the characters and the story backdrop.

However, there were some grammatical errors, a few missing words and some weird turns of phrase that sounded wrong.

I also thought there were some inconsistencies in the tone. One moment, the tone is super relaxed and familiar, the next, they are using literary flourishes.

I think this needed more editing. That being said, I’m invested in what’s going to happen now so I’ll stil be reading the next book 😂

Pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book.

Awesome lead female, tough, independent and so brave. REally liked how she transformed once meeting her fated mate/husband (though I am unsure if that is what I should call it - in other PNR I would). Liked that is was more than just heat, there is real character development throughout, lots of fringe characters I am interested in too.

Especially the parents - SOoooo interested in them, definitely my fave parts involved his mother!

Rescued by the Alien Viking provided a world full of ego, danger, desires to love and be loved, family acceptance and lack there of. I look forward to seeing more of this world in the next book in the series. The emotional roller coaster ride was at once exhilarating and terrifying. A great read with an HEA. Enjoy this book and look forward to more from Lucee Joie.

It was a struggle to finish this book. The hero's leader is a bad guy who regularly takes wives from Earth. None of them have brought out his mating marks. He doesn't let these women ever contact their families again. It is cruel.

The hero and the other Vikings do nothing to help these human women.

Great Story 😃

This was a great story, but it had a lot of bad editing unfortunately 😕. I thought it was really interesting that the Vikings from the past were used as characters in this story 😀. I'm hoping that the next book has better editing, cuz it's a awesome series 😄. Thanks Lucee, I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book 🤓.
