Hope Beach #3

Seagrass Pier

Rate this book

Seagrass Pier is the perfect place for Elin to hide from a killer, but an old love's ability to see her true heart could be her undoing.

When Elin Summerall contracted a virus that damaged her heart, she was lucky to get a transplant. At first it was an overwhelmingly good gift. But then she began to remember a murder she never witnessed—the murder of her heart's donor.

When she reveals what she knows to a disbelieving police officer, she's exposed as a witness and must flee for her life to a remote cottage on Hope Beach.

Fearing what might happen to her daughter and mother, she asks Marc Everton for help, though she hasn't seen him since the night her father died. She remembers that night with shame, and she never told Marc about their daughter.

Marc is less than convinced that Elin's "memories" are real. He is blindsided by the news about his daughter, but for her sake, he agrees to help. Then he begins to notice the small ways Elin is different. She now likes coffee, her musical tastes have changed, and she's ditched her jeans and sneakers for dresses and high heels.

As Elin tries to stay alive and bring the killer to justice, she begins to doubt her own identity. Did her new heart save her life only to cause her to lose herself? And if she's really changed, why does her new heart love Marc just as much as her old one did?

Seagrass Pier, the third book in the Hope Beach Series by Colleen Coble, is a contemporary Christian romantic suspense. You will see some characters from Tidewater Inn (#1) and Rosemary Cottage (#2). Seagrass Pier, like the others in this series, is a stand-alone novel. The plot of neither book #1 nor book #2 was given away in this one.

Elin Summerall has a donated heart, and has a few memories from her donor, a young lady named Laura. Elin finds this extremely disturbing because the predominant memory she has is of Laura's murder.

As a reader, I was skeptical about the premise of cell memory in donated organs. I took the time to look it up, and apparently, there is some basis for the theory, particularly in the case of donated hearts. I decided to take it with a grain of salt since I haven't personally witnessed it in anyone, and it doesn't look as though it is conclusively verified by scientists at this point. But I didn't have a problem going with it for the story. Coble does a nice job of not overdoing it, I think.

Marc Everton is an FBI agent on mandatory personal leave. His partner was murdered, and his boss does not want him working that particular case. Marc is sure that his partner's murderer and Laura's murderer are one and the same.

What I liked:

*I liked the romance between Elin and Marc. They went from being "oil and water" to the expected "happily ever after." It felt natural.

*I found the mystery/suspense very interesting. Straight-up romance is definitely my preferred genre, but Colleen Coble does such a good job that I read all her books.

What I didn't like:

*There were just too many problems and mysteries at once. I am certainly not one to expect my books to be perfectly realistic, but I felt that the combination of events was too far beyond the probable, even for me.

*There is one very glaring discrepancy in a conversation between secondary characters. (Page 277 out of 328 as labeled on my Kindle reader). I've re-read it and it doesn't look like I've misunderstood.

I read through this very quickly and would have given it 5 stars if not for the small dislikes that I had. Colleen Coble's books are all fabulous. I'd recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy a Christian romantic suspense, high school aged and older. It was a clean novel but touched on some topics (drugs, sex, murder) not appropriate for the very young reader.

If readers are able to suspend their disbelief about cellular memory, Coble’s latest Hope Beach novel offers enough mystery and romance to keep the storyline moving quickly. Elin’s flashbacks offer interesting plot points, but the story is not entirely plausible. Overall, this book is entertaining and enjoyable with large amounts of action and intrigue.
Elin Summerall received a heart transplant, and now she seems to be having memories of the heart’s former owner’s murder. The murderer has heard about Elin’s flashbacks and begins to stalk her in order to keep Elin’s mouth shut about what she saw. FBI agent Marc Everton doesn’t really believe her, but wants to keep her safe after he discovers he’s the father of Elin’s young daughter.

“Never judge a book by its cover”. This is a great quote that we have all heard for a long time. I believe that quote fits this book perfectly, as judging by its cover, I think this is a book that a lot of men would overlook. If you did, though, you would be missing a pretty terrific story.

Elin has had a difficult life between her father dying, her husband dying and being diagnosed with heart disease. The only good thing has been being able to get a heart transplant. That is, until she starts “seeing” scenes from a murder that she never witnessed, the actual murder of the person who’s heart now resides in her chest. Making statements to the police about her visions only causes her to look crazy, something she doesn’t want to put her daughter through. As a result, she moves to Hope Beach and there she runs into Marc who has heard about her visions and reaches out to see if there’s more to them then what he’s been hearing. Running into Marc was the last thing Elin wanted. Not only did he elicit bad memories of the night her father died, but also the fact that he is the father to her daughter, a fact she never let him know. As they work together to find out what her memories mean and if they are truly memories from the murder, they find their feelings for each other rekindling. Throw in an equally great storyline with Marc’s cousin, Sara, and the suspense never ends. Are the memories really from her heart donor? What troubles can Sara get into? Can they track down the killer before its too late? Shake off the sand and go BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

This genre of “Romantic Suspense” is getting under my skin. I do like me some suspense, but I guess that I’m also getting to be a closet romantic. This is the third book in the Hope Beach series. While they may have been written as stand alone, there are characters that you reconnect with from each book. The suspense is accelerator to floor excitement that never lets up once. While I’m not 100% sure about some of the “coincidences” that happened for plot lines, but they weren’t so overtly unrealistic that they detracted from the story. The romance is pretty evenly distributed throughout the book but it does wind up with a typical ending.

Is this a "guy's book"? If you rank the suspense from 1 to 10 with 10 being the most suspenseful novel ever, I would rate this as a 7. Some great suspense blended with touches of romance will make this book one that should be added to your “needs to be read” pile.

Elin Summerall, widowed mother of four-year-old Josie, has recently undergone a lifesaving heart transplant operation, receiving the heart of Laura Watson, a murder victim. Now she’s experiencing nightmares—memories of murder. Marc Everton is an FBI agent who believes the death of his partner is linked to Laura’s murder, and although he doesn’t really believe in residual memories, he wonders if Elin can help. But there’s a catch …

I’ve read several books by Colleen Coble, both contemporary and historical. I personally prefer her contemporary novels, and Seagrass Pier is excellent. At first I thought the plot was going to be like Double Blind: A Novel by Brandilyn Collins, but Seagrass Pier was quite different (although it came close to Brandilynn’s trademark “Seatbelt Suspense”, in that it was full of tension and hard to put down).

Nick, Elin and the supporting characters are all well developed and believable, and the plot is a tightly-woven web of suspense with a little romance added in. Seagrass Pier is Christian fiction and while Christian values underpin the lives of all the main characters, it’s not preachy fiction. My one concern is that I never saw Elin accept God’s forgiveness for her sin. In real life, God forgives us before we even ask, yet even at the end, Elin doesn’t seem to understand she is forgiven.

Seagrass Pier is the third book in the Hope Beach series, following Tidewater Inn and Rosemary Cottage. However, it can easily be read as a standalone title (I have read the previous two books—while all three books have the same location, they focus on different characters with only a few cameo appearances from the earlier books). Recommended for fans romantic suspense.

This story follows Elin who has had a heart transplant from a woman called Laura, who was murdered. Elin finds she has memories from the day Laura died and she must find Laura’s killer before he kills her too.

Alongside this, she finds herself having to work with Agent Marc Everton, a guy with whom she has a complicated past and from whom she’s kept a life-changing secret.

This book gripped me all the way through. I loved the romance and the different friendships. The story weaves together a lot of different plot lines.

I listened to the audiobook and once again I loved the narrator, Devon O’Day. I listened to it at 1.5 speed and flew through it.

I enjoyed revisiting some of the other characters from the previous two books and seeing how their stories have progressed.

The spiritual content was less than the previous two books. I think I would have liked a little more but I enjoyed reading a book where the characters’ faith impacted their choices, both the good and the bad.

I’m not sure if I believe that this story could happen in real life. For instance, could a person with a heart transplant really remember all the details about their donor’s killer? But even if this idea is entirely fictional, it worked within the story and I liked it as a plot device, even if I did have to suspend my disbelief and scepticism!

The romance plot was as strong as the suspense. I’ll be glad to check out some of Colleen Coble’s newer books soon.

Seagrass Pier is the third book in the Hope Beach series and I have loved every single book! However, don’t fret if you haven’t read the others in the series. Seagrass Pier stands alone as a great romantic suspense.

Colleen Coble has done an excellent job creating a very exciting story based on the idea of “cell memory”. Elin is haunted by the memory of the murder of the woman who became Elin’s heart donor. The idea that Elin is a witness to a murder based on a transplanted heart could have been an unbelievable plot line if handled incorrectly. However, the author did a wonderful job with this story and made it seem completely plausible and definitely terrifying for Elin.

I really enjoyed the romance between Elin and Marc. Their dynamic as they work together to bring a killer to justice was fantastic. There are some big hurts that must be overcome and trust to be regained. This story does a great job of reminding us that God forgives and we need to as well.

The diary entries that transport the reader back in time and tell the history of the home really added a lot to the story for me as well. There are so many threads throughout this book that are interesting and also kept me guessing about who might be out to silence Elin.

I thoroughly enjoyed Seagrass Pier from start to finish and highly recommend it for fans of romantic suspense.

I am a big fan of the Hope Beach novels. I had to buy the first one after I read the second just because I knew it would be good. I've read a lot of books by Colleen and I really think her suspense/mystery books are the best. While there is tons of romance, it's not the main focus of the story and the intrigue adds so much. That being said I do think the first two books are better but this book is great! Taking you back to Hope Beach we get wrapped up in another murder only this one is being remembered by someone who has the heart of the woman murdered. Talk about creepy. I don't know if it's possible for someone to have a transplant heart and then start acting like the previous owner of that heart. But in any case it makes for a great story line. This one has the same feel as the other two books but is still unique in it's own way with different characters. I loved getting wrapped up in Elin's life and her sweet daughter and mom. Elin takes care of her mother in this book and I really liked that part and relationship.

I think this book is very well written and had me on the edge of my seat.

You don't need to have read the previous books, they are all pretty separate. But I would read them because I love them all!

I knew it would be weird to read about the transferred memories from a heart transplant, and some parts were really creepy about that. I haven’t studied the science behind it, but the memories and personality change gave the story a bit of a supernatural flair. There was also a lot of romantic thoughts/attractions/kisses between the two leads.

Other than that, a mostly good mystery that kept me guessing.

The historical flashbacks were a distraction and weren’t ever properly tied to the modern story. I felt that some motivations could have been explained in a much more solid and succinct way.

But it’s got some really, really nice human interest spots in it which show family relationships and friendships in a very realistic and heartfelt way and it has a great message on marriage and family. The Christian part is underplayed but present.

Even though this is book 3 of the series, this can be read as a standalone.

I enjoyed this story, but not as much as the first 2 in the series. I didn't like the cell memory plot and didn't really felt connected with Elin and Marc. There was also quite a few loose ends at the end which I didn't feel got clarified.

I guessed who the stalker was early on, so that twist wasn't new to me.

I didn't like Elin and Marc's story at first but it did grow on me as I got to know them more. I loved Sara and Josh's story who we first got to know in book 1 and 2 of the series. Even though the suspense increased at the end, it was quite mild during most of the book and a lot was predictable.

Still a likable story from Colleen, though some of her other books I found more suspenseful and interesting.

2.5⭐️

This one falls into the overflowing category that is stereotypical “Christian Suspense Romance”...

The writing in this story is very formulaic and it feels very much like a debut book. At least twice, the author got caught reusing the same word/phrasing multiple times within the span of a few pages.

The Christian content is super minimal. And love is explained to be something you can’t just ‘turn off and on’ (when I personally believe love is a CHOICE; it is lust & attraction that tends to have a mind of its own)

The stereotype? (spoilers ahead)

Male FBI agent (Mark) reconnects with an old friend (Ellen) to find out her 5 year old daughter his actually his, conceived from a one-night lapse in self-restraint.

This ‘one Night’ is brought up a lot...like, a lot...it’s odd.

Also, for being an FBI agent, Mark is not very mature and even feels, at times, a bit unintelligent...

One of the killers in this book had a very far-fetched, weak motivation 🤷🏼‍♀️

This third book was, to me, a little different than the first two. It felt to me more like a stand alone book than one that is a part of a series, except for Sara and Josh. They are the only part of it that made it feel tied into the series. Even then, I kept forgetting Sara was in the other two lol. This was quite an interesting story nonetheless! Being a heart transplant recipient, Elin's life just got very interesting! Remembering the donor's death and story made it very real for her, so much so that it became hard for her, and for the reader, to seperate Elin and Laura.
Elin's life was not boring to begin with, with an aging mother who wanders off and can't remember things from one moment to the next, as well as a little girl to take care of. Then in walks back Marc into her life, who soon discovers a secret she kept from him that now changes things for everyone.
In the midst of it all, they are being watched and stalked by a killer, Laura's killer, and unknowing inviting more trouble by hiring a woman to help with Elin's aging mother.
This book is true Colleen Coble style! Her Rock Harbor series showed us a world of a dog search and rescue team and was very information and very entertaining (the series was one of my fave's) and in this book, she shows us a big glimpse into a heart transplant recipients world and her experience and struggle with changes that stem from her new heart. I recommend her novels to anyone who wants to get out of their own world for a bit and be entertained at the same time!

Cell memory bit was intriguing but I felt the plot was not believable so was quite frustrated by book's end.
Suspense is not my usual genre so perhaps I am not the best judge here.

So. Many. Things.
1. The villain's name is Ben! Ben!! The evil brother in the previous book in this series was also Ben. Where's the originality? It was also confusing for a bit because I read them back to back.
2. I saw it coming that Ben was the bad guy.
3. What was the point of the historical timeline and Georgina? The plotline didn't tie in very well at all with the modern one
4. The leads have strong feelings for each other but stay alone in a house together. Not the wisest.
5. The whole Devi/Callie Ann thing was so frustrating to me. Callie Ann's character felt wayyy to similar to a character from the previous book. A girl poses as someone else, to carry out an evil plan. I feel like Coble was kind of trying to submit something before a deadline with this series.
6. The whole cell memory thing was a bit creepy and I'll have to research it more.
7. I also felt that the whole Sarah and Josh plotline was unnecessary and distracted from an already convoluted story.
8. The girls in this book ALSO like to sit on things and curl their legs under them.

All in all, I was left feeling very underwhelmed by this series. There were so many little side plots and extra details that just muddied everything and didn't enrich the story.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

It fell short of my expectations - 3.5 stars
Seagrass Pier is the third book in Colleen Coble’s Hope Beach series. I had really enjoyed the previous books and was anxiously awaiting this one. I’m sorry to say that it fell a bit short of my expectations.
Ms. Coble deals with a controversial subject in this novel - cell memory. Do those who receive donor organs actually know or remember things about their donor? Even going so far as having flashbacks that are not their own? I have to admit that I was a little put off by this plot, though I did manage to put that unease aside through most of the book and just enjoy the story.
Ms. Coble once again does an excellent job of writing a story that keeps you intrigued and wanting to know what will happen next. The descriptions were wonderful, the writing very well done, and the mystery fascinating. This is one of the few mysteries I’ve read where I seriously considered skipping to the end and finding out who the villain was, and then finishing the book.
Elin Summerall is one of the protagonists in this story. She is a very compelling character and I easily related to her. She is strong and determined, but also kind and caring. She really struggles with the cell memory and the flashbacks that come with it. She also contends with her fear of changing and becoming someone she doesn’t recognize.
Marc Everton is the “hero” in the book. He is the typical romance hero - strong, determined, stubborn, but with a soft spot for Elin and her daughter. I actually liked him a good deal, though I found a couple of his reactions a little unrealistic for the current events. As we learn early in the book, he has been wronged by Elin in the past, but seems to rather easily forgive her, though his anger at the situation does pop up once in a while. I suppose I was hoping for a bit more resolution between them, but the issue is rarely discussed. I enjoyed the story coming from his view point and getting to see everything through his eyes. He is also a strong Christian and endeavors to help Elin find who she is beyond all of the surface things that may change.
Marc and Elin’s relationship is interesting. They’ve been friends for years, though they haven’t seen each other for two of them. While they have the aforementioned issue between them, the chemistry is definitely there. I enjoyed how honest they both were and how they managed to move beyond the past and get to know each other anew.
As I already commented, the mystery had me very intrigued. It is rather intricate, with a couple things going on at once, that seem to have no connection to each other. I found it a little confusing at times and wasn’t always sure what was going on. I had to keep going over it in my head, trying to keep up, and I still have a couple questions. I may have to read the ending again in an attempt to figure them out. I do appreciate how Ms. Coble somehow kept it all together without getting something mixed up.
My only other complaint is that the book comes from several different view points. That usually doesn’t bother me, but with two mysteries, along with several characters to keep up with, it became quite confusing. A few times it would be afternoon, then skip to morning for another point of view and somehow still be the same day. I kept trying to figure out how they went back in time.
I’m disappointed that I didn’t enjoy it more, but overall, I would say this is a good, if somewhat complex book. I have enjoyed Ms. Coble’s previous books, so I will definitely be looking forward to the next.
I recommend this book if you enjoy complex mysteries with compelling characters.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through The Christian Manifesto for my honest review, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Okay, readers out there, if you like a really suspenseful and CREEPY!!! book, this one is for you. Oh, man, did I ever get the woolies during this story by Colleen Coble. Elin Summerhall is a single mom. She moves to Hope Beach to hopefully escape the clutches of her stalker, who she thinks is the same man that killed the woman who's heart she now has. Elin is a heart transplant recipient and the person who donated the heart was murdered. Now, Elin is concerned that Laura Watson's murderer is after her, and she's having these horrid flashbacks.

Okay, now on to my official review.

What I Liked: This book definitely had me from the very first page. Even though this was, by far, the scariest book I have ever read, I did enjoy it. I loved both Elin and Marc, two different people with their own separate personalities, but they both fit together well. Josie, Elin's 4-year-old daughter just warmed my heart and I felt for poor Ruby, Elin's mother who is struggling with dementia. Oh, Sara and Josh! SO glad that the author dealt a little more with this couple in the story.

I found this book very interesting. I might have heard sometime in the past of heart transplant recipients changing a bit after the surgery. (i.e. Like loving coffee when you disliked it before.) Oh, and the memories and dreams from another person's life, that would kinda scare me, too. Especially if the memories weren't pleasant. This story was very interesting and I enjoyed the plot twists and seeing where Colleen Coble was going to take the main characters. I was satisfied with the ending to this one, as well.

What I Disliked: I can't think of any particular thing that I really disliked. I wish the Christian message in this book was stronger. I LOVED the message in the first book, Tidewater Inn, but I felt that these last two books weren't quite as strong in their message.

I give this book 4 stars for another suspenseful mystery by this author I have greatly enjoyed. I will definitely be reading more books by her in the future.

From the start, Colleen Coble’s Seagrass Pier intrigued me. I have heard mentions of donated organ and the unexplained lingering bits of personality – termed in the book as “cell memory” – but I have never before read a book in which a transplanted organ serves as the key to solving a murder mystery. What a novel idea. Combine that with Coble’s typical mixture of suspense and romance and the product is nothing less than a captivating read. I couldn’t put it down. While I admittedly guessed at the murderous culprit early in the novel, the twists and turns kept me questioning and doubting until the revealing and still surprising end.

Coble uses the perspectives of multiple characters to convey her story – a technique I have found, in some novels, to be a nuisance. However, in Seagrass Pier, the multiple points of view do not detract from the plotline. Coble avoids excessive information dumping with each character, providing only the necessary tidbits to keep moving forward. Elin and Marc and their budding relationship still remain at the forefront of the narration, and I quickly got to know and love each of them.

As the third novel in Coble’s Hope Beach series, Seagrass Pier also offers glimpses of characters met in both Tidewater Inn and Rosemary Cottage. Of course, this brought several smiles to my face over the course of the book – I love when books overlap to peek at the lives of previously beloved characters. A treat indeed. Yet, while reading the previous novels helps to enjoy these nuggets, Seagrass Pier can be read and enjoyed easily on its own, like the other Hope Beach novels. So whether or not you have read Tidewater Inn and Rosemary Cottage, I definitely recommend Seagrass Pier – it’s a fun, thrilling read, especially perfect for a summer trip to the beach.

Heart-Racing Seaside Suspense!

In Seagrass Pier, Colleen Coble has penned a heart pounding, suspense-filled novel in the lovely, seaside setting of the quaint little island of Hope Beach, North Carolina. Hope Beach is a veritable vacationer's paradise; with its white sandy beaches, roar of the surf, the fresh salty scent of the sea air, and the moon glimmering on the peaks of the whitecaps--but underneath the guise of warmth and beauty lie deadly secrets, deceit, and murder.

Elin Summerall has been given another chance at life. A young woman named Laura has been murdered and Elin has received her heart in a transplant, along with some of Laura's memories, habits, and violent flashbacks of her murder. Elin, a widow, moves to Seagrass Pier with her little girl, Josie, and her mom, to try and recapture some peace and also learn more about Laura in the process.

When Elin begins to receive threatening letters, phone calls, and visits from a stalker, who seems to want her dead, a handsome FBI agent from her past, Marc Everton, reappears in her life to help. Marc has more than a vested interest in her and Josie's lives due to a secret Elin has kept from him for almost five years. Can Marc and Elin, along with Laura's memories, put the pieces together before she becomes another of this madman's victims?

Colleen Coble is a master story-teller whose suspense books are guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seats, with an adrenaline rush from beginning to end! She is an expert at descriptive imagery, and I could actually see the pounding surf and hear the cry of the seagulls in my mind's eye. There was not just one romance in this novel, but two! -- as one of the secondary character's story comes to life as well, and the romantic tension was extremely palatable! There was a surprise twist at the end that threw me for a loop, and lovers of whodunits will be mesmerized; biting their nails well into the night trying to figure out who this crazy stalker is! Nicely done, Ms. Colleen Coble!

Action-packed suspense is the hallmark of Colleen Coble’s newest offering in the popular Hope Beach series, Seagrass Pier. An old mystery and a new murder combine with stalkers, drug smugglers, and memories from a murder victim to form the background for a second chance romance. Combining all the things fans of romantic suspense would want, this novel is the perfect traveling companion for your next vacation.

Elin Summerall is the recipient of a heart transplant. But along with a new chance at life, Elin has memories that are not her own. Flashes of memory from murder victim/donor Laura intrude on Elin’s life. If that is not frightening enough, she now has a stalker that is intent on keeping her silent. Marc Everton, an FBI agent investigating the murder of his partner, is sure Laura’s murder is the key to solving his case. But he is skeptical of Elin’s memories, until more and more pieces of the puzzle fall into place. There is a definite attraction between the two, but past guilt and betrayal may keep them apart.

The suspense takes off right from the start of Seagrass Pier. The reader is plunged into the midst of the story and the action never slows down. Coble’s use of cell memory as a plot device is very intriguing. She also introduces an old journal found at Elin’s Hope Beach home to further the mystery surrounding the house — I just wish this thread had been more developed. The characters are interesting and a few favorites from previous books make an appearance. The final wrap-up of the mysteries was a little quick and neat for me, but I really enjoyed the romance between the two main characters. The addition of Elin’s mother’s Alzheimer’s could be a good discussion starter for a book club.

All in all, I enjoyed Seagrass Pier. It’s beachy setting and suspense-filled pages are perfect for a summer read.

Recommended.

Seagrass PierSeagrass Pier is the beautiful story of Elin Summerall, a woman who was lucky enough to receive a heart transplant when she desperately needed it. Now she wonders if she's going crazy because she has nightmares of being murdered like the woman whose heart now beats inside Elin. She's also noticed her tastes are changing. Is she somehow disappearing in the mystery of cell memory from the transplanted heart? She moves to Hope Island trying to avoid a stalker and is confronted with her worst fears. Marc Everton regrets a one-night fling with Elin. But when he sees her on the island he isn't prepared for the surprise she has for him.

This book is richly woven with themes of forgiveness, identity and much more. The story line is cutting edge with the tie to whether heart transplant recipients start having new memories and tastes based on those of the person's whose heart they now carry. The story is my favorite of Colleen's recent books. I love the Lighthouse historical series, but this book is about to knock a couple of those down a spot or two on my all time favorites list. The race to uncover the murderer will keep you guessing -- though I did figure it out about 2/3s of the way in. There's an additional mystery thread to keep the pages turning as well as the developing romance between and challenges confronting Elin and Marc.

This is a beautiful story that will land on the keeper shelf of those who love romantic suspense or are fans of Colleen Coble's books. If you haven't tried one of her books yet, this is the one to read!

Every time I pick up a novel by Colleen Coble I know I'm going to read a great book! Seagrass Pier definitely met that definition and was a great addition to The Hope Beach series.

Okay. Let me just go ahead and say that I LOVED Elin and Marc. They were a great couple—with plenty of conflict and romantic tension and sweet moments. I definitely felt bad for Marc when he learns a life-changing truth. (Not cool, Elin!) And things seemed to pile on Elin at times. However, it was refreshing to see how she grew as she had to deal with so many challenges. I enjoyed reading all the ups and downs ... which made for an interesting story.

The suspense didn't seem quite as suspenseful as some of Coble's other novels, but there was still plenty going on that had me scratching my head and flipping the pages. Overall, I truly enjoyed this story and recommend it to anyone looking for a mental escape as the summer winds down. [4 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Great romantic suspense with a different twist. Cell memory. When a woman is strangled to death, Elin, the heroine, receives her heart ... and the memories that go along with it. She continues having nightmares, reliving the murder. If that's not bad enough, she has a stalker. Marc, our hero, is an FBI agent, who believes his partner was murdered by the person who strangled Elin's heart donor. The story was fast moving, to fast at times, making it had to keep up. There's also a second romance intertwined with this story.

I did feel like I was missing something, perhaps coming in in the middle of the story, concerning Elin's late husband Tim. The book continually mentioned Tim's accident, but never told us what accident. I suspect it may have occurred in book one or two. That's the downside of books being so far apart. Otherwise, it was a good book with a happily-ever-after ending.

It was great to go back to Hope Beach with Colleen Coble. I've read the third book set there now and I declare, I would love to visit this place!

Elin Summerall has received a heart transplant from a woman who was murdered and now Elin is having nightmares of the murder. She goes back to live on Hope Beach to get away from everything but danger follows her there.

Can she trust Marc Everton, someone who shares a past with her, to help her get to the bottom of this? And what will she tell him about her daughter?

Colleen Coble's tells a wonderful story, with the suspense building chapter by chapter till the reader is on such tenderhooks she finds it very difficult to lay the book down to even eat!

I was mesmerized by this book. LOVED it! Can't wait for her next offering. It's on my keeper shelf, too!

I'm pretty forgiving in the genre of cozy mysteries but I'm not even sure the same author who started this book finished it. There were gaps in the plot, storylines that were abandoned and unresolved, oversights too hard to believe, and, most significantly, a glaring mistake near the end that completely undermined the entire premise of the book.

This book was just way too complex. Loads of characters and three separate plot lines. That is a lot to keep track of in a novel just over 300 pages.
Also, Marc was only an FBI agent when it was convenient to the plot. So much so that I kept on forgetting that he was supposed to be law enforcement.

3.5 stars.

Started off really well and very suspenseful. Several story lines going on that the suspenseful edge dropped off completely then random oh picked back up again. Felt inconsistent. I normally LOVE Colleen Coble, so I was kind of disappointed.
