This is a great book about racisim in the 60's. I've lived in Birmingham since 1980 and grew up hearing about the 16th street church bombing, Bull Connor's hosing and turning the dogs on children and adults. I read this book with great shame. I read some of it with tears running down my cheeks. It is a long book that carries a great emotinal weight. The chapters are about different chracters in the book, King, Reverand Shuttlesworth, the 4 individual girls, the men who bombed the church and more. Beautiful prose! Great history, sad, sad story! Great book for an Alabamian or anyone interested in Civil Rights history. Excellent! One of best reads of 2009...
