Newly married to Noah Jackson, Beth is happily content working on her family's market stall while Noah fulfils his dreams of being a teacher. Living in a small overcrowded pit house with the Jacksons isn't ideal, but Beth knows it's only for a short time and that change is around the corner. However, she could never have expected such shocking changes to happen.
When war erupts, Beth's peaceful life is shattered by events beyond her control. Noah enlists to fight alongside his brothers, but it is on Beaumont Farm, Beth's family home, where life throws the most challenges.
A devastating accident occurs that changes all their lives and the effects ripple throughout the family. Once a loving home, Beaumont Farm becomes Beth's responsibility, one she never thought she'd have.
Can she cope with the grief and burdens placed upon her as she waits for news from the battlefields of France?
Can she save the farm from collapse?
And will the man she loves return home safe, or will an old enemy take an opportunity to seek revenge?
Australian born AnneMarie Brear writes historical novels and modern romances and sometimes the odd short story, too. Her passions, apart from writing, are travelling, reading, researching historical eras and looking for inspiration for her next book. https://www.facebook.com/annemariebrear http://www.annemaribrear.com
Yet, another brilliant book from AnneMarie Brear. It is so lovely to follow the ups and downs of the Beaumont and the Jackson family carrying on from the prequel The Market Stall Girl. This book also brings back the reality of how the men were in the trenches in WW1 and the sufferings of the families coping back home(as with any war). Hopefully, with the ending of this book there will be sequel to follow. It is a recommended five star read from me.
This was a emotional read. If you love historical fiction.....you must read!
Reading this brought me to realize how terrible the First World War was from the loss of life, separation of loved ones due to war, the love of brothers going through the thick of it sacrificing their life to serve country. To enlist was to be a man regardless of one had to lie about age, children going to battle. Although what they thought abs what it actually was were two different things. Women keeping the home front going taking men’s jobs to keep food on table and coal burning for heat. Excellent book I know she has to write another we must know how Noah and Beth get on after the war. How Louis Melville comes between or brings them together closer. Can’t wait!
A beautifully written story on how families survived the horrors of war. The realities of true love surviving the horrors. Parents surviving the grief. The horrors of actually being in the trenches. I enjoyed how it was written with the truth of how war effects everyone
This is the best book I have read it's the follow-up to the market girl trader. You got to know the family's. And loved them all. I am now ordering more books from this author. Jill
I enjoyed the first book so much that I couldn't wait to read this one to find out what happened to Noah and Beth. It was so well written and easy to read that I couldn't put it down. Lovely story even though so sad at times. I hope there will be a third book.
After reading the market stall I just had to read this next sequal and I am so glad I did I read the whole book in one go I just couldn't put it down Annemarie brought the characters to life I highly recommend these two books you won't be dissapointed
I really enjoyed this book but the ending felt so rushed. A will is mentioned but never read, the farm is struggling but then it jumps to the end of the war and er don't know if its still struggling, so many loose ends not finished!
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel set around events of World War II. Believable characters and true to life events made this an emotional roller coaster of a read spoilt only by poor grammar and incorrect spelling.
When I read about the battle Loos , I could have cried as it's personal to me, my great grandfather was there he was in the Royal Highlanders and never came home, writer have a great insight to what a lot of soldiers went through.
Again AnneMarie Brear has done it again. Fabulous book with fantastic war memories and how everyone managed. Would love to find out what happened to the family and Ruby.
