Mathelstan, thief-lord of water, seeks the title of Master of Shadows, head of all the thiefdoms. In an effort to consolidate power and save his city, Mathelstan steals the Ronin’s blades and puts Darius before the crucible of fire. At the same time, the other Ronin are waiting to be found. Ayva must rally Zane and Helix to find the other young legends in order to save Farhaven. To this end, they head to Median, the city on the ocean, hunting for the true Great Kingdom of Water. However, their search will not be easy as Yronia, the fallen Great Kingdom of Metal, stirs. A darkness, an ancient evil, seeks to blot out the sun and end the Ronin’s quest once and for all. Nefarious pirates, grand sea battles, water serpents and much more await in this thrilling next installment of The Ronin Saga. I really love this series, and each new book continues to somehow be better than the last! The world is slowly added to as they go, and this one is no exception. The magic is used in new and interesting ways, which always appeals to me as a reader.
Following the characters on their journey and seeing how they’ve changed—and also stayed the same—is a real marker of their progress in this book. The new characters are immensely enjoyable, I especially like the dynamic between Helix and the other characters.
The “original trio” is still the main focus, but we get a deeper insight into some other characters we’ve been wondering about too.
The story itself is very fun, and I enjoyed the different scenery. The characters spend a lot of time near the sea, and this book has all things pirate-y going on (That’s a personal fav of mine, especially the new take on a classic mythical creature.)
Something I love about this series is just how fun it is. It’s the best word to describe it, really. It’s one of those that just draws you in, and you’re cool with living there for a while. It’s comfortable and exciting at the same time.
This book is an exciting, swashbuckling continuation of the Ronin Saga.

Where to begin... hmm, I wonder how the storyline will go? Something will go wrong, then something will immediately go wrong, followed by something going wrong, finally out of left field something goes wrong. How is this a plot? It's just a series of bad things happening to the characters. There is no character development, they don't grow and learn, if anything they just get dumber. The series started pretty good, but has gone downhill fast with this latest addition. I was barely able to finish it. Repetitive and predictable.

This whole series was an unexpected delight. It is an epic saga, but also has sass and character development. The battle scenes are some of the most heart-pounding I have ever read! I love the magic system! If you’re looking for a great fantasy series (not really any romance so far, just hints of it) this is it!!!!

I love this book series and was totally looking forward to this book once I heard it was coming out. I can tell you. This didn't disappoint. The action and story telling you've come to know from Matt Wolf is on full swing here. Can't wait to see what happens next time. I stayed up late many nights just thinking, one more page, one more chapter. Please give this one a chance. If you haven't read this series, just give it a chance.

The Ronin of Water has an amazing discovery and learning curve, as do all the Ronin. In this book, I really began to see the amazing amount of evil already existing in the world that these young heroes are facing. The urgency to get their act together is made all the more clear as they realize the enemy has had hundreds of years to plan and build their legions.

This book would be 5 stars but

I have followed this series and author for a long time since 2015. The number one complaint I have is the author takes years to write a single book but I am unable to wait patiently for that long. The whole series reads is like a an Japanese manga with great action scenes to boot. But waiting two to three years for each installment is the only thing holding it back. Mr. Wolf has insane talent and I can see the perfectionists in him slaving away and I understand why. The whole series is worth the investment to read but be prepared for the long wait. The book has heroes antiheroes and action but very little if any romance. This is fine as it is based around a war like many other fantasy novels. But does lead to character angst that is excessive at times. However i still get that cannot put down feeling when reading it. The books are also chunky in size which for us train riders is perfect. Give it a read it will fullfil your addiction to good long fantasy books that have colorful morality dual personality characters and nonstop excitement.

Wolf just gets better with his writing, his characters, and the world-building. The three main characters are young in the first book, but as the series progresses they grow up and discover their powers and pull more young Ronin into the adventure. In this book, they are definitely more interesting and dynamic. I am a huge fan of Faye, who is complex, dark, and immensely entertaining with her sidekick, Odaren. Good pacing, humorous dialogue, lots of action, fantastical creatures, and imaginative characters keep the reader engaged. As a former middle school and high school teacher, I have recommended this book dozens of times to fantasy fans and most definitely any of my reluctant readers. But it's not just for young adults. This has been a good series to immerse yourself for sheer entertainment and old-fashioned heroes and villains.

Overall enjoyable. If I could change anything, I'd cut back on the use of so be it. The phrase popped up just enough times that I spent a week with the song "Don't Tread on Me" stuck in my head afterwards.

It was a great continuation to the journey of the Ronin. Everytime I read a new book in this series I'm completeley inmersed in the setting and story. Even after having it read a year or so ago I can still picture several of the scenes and wonder why this is not an animated series yet.

Every moment has you guessing who the new ronin will be and which power they hold. With secrets and betrayals I look forward to fully reading this series and begrudgingly wait for the next book to release.
