The book is worth giving a chance. It's not perfect but it has a bit of a different twist.
The mystery element was intriguing but easy to guess. It's not heavy on the sports. The bully part flew out of the window pretty much at the end of the first book. The family dynamics and social class topics were interesting to read ... most of the time.
However, there was often repetition (the hot-cold relationship between Ella and Briggs and with their families). Ella started as a great character in the first book but turned hypocritical and flighty in the third. I liked Briggs in the very end but throughout the three books his character mostly bounced between strong and weak.
All in all, a good book! I feel like it could've been much better though.
I enjoyed this, I did, however I felt like it was alot of repetition going on and the while situation was being dragged out. Then when you get to the climax of the whole situation everything felt rushed. There should've been a bigger talk with Briggs and his mom, briggs and finn and Parker. It just didn't happen. It was good to see briggs and Ella win.
Basically a combination of I Know What You Did Last Summer and Pretty Little Liars, and whoooole lot of kids adding 2 and 2 and getting 5. Aaaaaand a heroine who thinks about the H incessantly and says Dammit! in her inner monologues.
I didn’t mind the H. Somehow he was a way more developed character than the h whose main qualities are being a nerd and... that’s about it tbh.
At one point the h finds out the H is being abused by his Dad and she throws a tantrum about it because he won’t talk to her about it. Girl you just saw your bf obviously lives in an abusive home and you’re upset because *you don’t know all the things*? Let the mf breathe. I’m just kind of blown away that an 18yo responded to this shocking revelation with;
“Why does he do it? How long? Does he just like beating you up?” What the fuck kinda inquisition lmao.
Even worse - she’s a fucking gaslighter. The H tells her that his abusive father hates him and would rather see him dead and what does this paragon of kindness say? “Briggs don’t say that, he doesn’t want you dead. He’s ashamed of you.”
Anyways, it’s not the worst series but definitely one of those very frustrating and suuuuper rinse and repeat push and pull types.
I like the store line of this series, it keep you on your toes but also gives you what you were wanting every now and then. Im kind of sad that its over but i would say that its a great read and worth your time for sure.
PS. I wish you could buy paperback copy’s and not just kindle
I’ve just discovered Kai’s books and now I’m hooked. Have read everything in less than a week and can’t wait to read what’s next!
I loved Dean and Brook’s story, The characters are well rounded and written like real people. They are perfect for each other and the will they/won’t they wasn’t as drawn out as some books.
This is book three in the Dirty Little Secret series and you definitely need to read books one and two before reading this book. Briggs totally surprised me in this series and I definitely recommend it as a must read to all the readers out there that love a great bully romance series.
I was getting tired of Briggs still being an a*hole, like being nice to people makes you seem weak. But yeah, still couldn't stop reading. I think it was a nice ending. Briggs' dad was the biggest a*hole and is finally in jail. Well, finally it's over! I enjoyed this series.
My favourite of all this one is great sort of a reveal all with the happy ending I am so happy with ending I do like dark romance but I need my happy endings like I need water
