New-to-me author, Sharon Dunn, surprised me with a compelling read that kept me racing to the end. I’ve added her books to my ‘auto-read’ list!

If you like:
✔️Small town setting
✔️Alaska
✔️Romantic suspense
✔️Light faith thread
✔️Inspirational read
✔️Tension-filled plot

Or are intrigued with the WITSEC program, you need to add this story to your tbr list!

Right from the start, I was invested in Natasha Hale’s plight. Her witness protection cover is blown when she steps in to help a little boy, giving the mafia a lead on her whereabouts. The heart-pounding suspense was so well done that I kept commenting about it aloud despite there being nobody home to hear me!

Dunn’s characters were masterfully crafted, and their situations pulled on my heartstrings. Both Alaskan State Trooper Landon Defries and WITSEC witness and former police officer, Natasha Hale, have suffered losses yet, despite being broken, they choose to channel their confidence in God and His love. The level of faith displayed under such trying circumstances was inspirational.

What happened to the little boy? Did the mafia find Natasha? Does she need to relocate and get a new identity? What about Landon - where does he fit in? You’ll have to read to find out!!!

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Alaskan Christmas Target. Sharon is one of my favorite authors for LIS. I'm always excited when I get one of her books in the mail. This story is amazing and I know you are going to love it. It's well written, full of action, and you will love her characters. Faith is a major part of this book.

Natasha Hale is in Witness Protection. She works in a dinner as a waitress. She is upset to see the violent ex-husband of the owner's daughter pull up haphazardly in the parking lot. The man is obviously high; He has come to take his son. He takes Natasha to drive. She ends up rescuing the boy along with the help of a state trooper. Her face is splashed all over the news and her cover is blown. Now the Mafia would find her.

Alaska State Trooper Landon Defries answers the call for the kidnapping. He is amazed at the way the waitress takes the man down. He helps the waitress and child but they are met with a media frenzy when they return. The waitress panics. He sees her drive off at the back of the diner. What is going on with her? Is she running from an abusive boyfriend or the law?

A journey of one enemy after another chasing them. Can He keep her safe? God has a plan for them, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction. Give Him your heart and watch Him move even in this chaos.

Wasn’t expecting the huge amounts of praying and faith in God stuff in this book. It was just okay as a book otherwise- great for killing time while waiting for the bus.

This book has potential, but it felt as if it was rushed to publication before the inconsistencies were ironed out... not to mention the constant typos.

For one example, they are hiding from an assassin, moving through deep snow between buildings, but apparently the obvious tracks they create as they push through the deep drifts won't lead their pursuer to them. Yeah....

Alaskan Christmas Target

This was a good story of how God takes care of us when We seek Him. Natasha and Landon faced so many dangers and totally relied on God go see them through. Great writing.

I had a hard time with this book. First, there were a lot of errors; such as wrong words, extra words, and misplaced words. These are things I'm wondering why an editor didn't correct. I have found this to be a rather common occurance in the most recent years of Harlequin books. The action sequences felt repetitive and left me feeling confused as though there were really no conclusions to it. I did read through this book without skipping but I had no connection with the characters. By the end of the book Natasha had told Landon next to nothing about her life before they met. They had no heartfelt, deep conversations, so I found the ending unbelievable. I hardly ever leave lower star reviews, but this book had potential to be really good with some good editing.

I love these types of plots but this one left me less than satisfied. It’s like a snapshot of 2 days in the characters bubble. Other than what is happening at that moment in the presence of the main characters, you get no other information. Hitman (or men, it’s never clear) magically show up ahead/behind/alongside, with no indication who or how. A lot of speculation but nothing is ever resolved. I was bored and had to push to finish. Was hoping for a more exciting story of survival rather than A very long road trip of whack a mole.

It seems there may be some truth to the saying, "No good deed goes unpunished". But she had to step in to protect Ezra. There was no way she could stand by and allow a little boy to be hurt, no matter the personal cost. Now her picture is on the news and her WIT-SEC cover is blown. Before she can reach her handler, Natasha is being hunted. How could they find her so fast? Thanks to a handsome Alaskan State Trooper, Landon Defries, she escapes only to be caught in a blizzard.

This story is filled with non-stop action and tons of suspense!
Highly recommend!

Alaskan Christmas Target (Love Inspired Suspense Inspirational Romance)
This story started with a bang and just kept going… Sharon's books are always enjoyable. This was a good story of how God takes care of us when we seek Him. The sweet interludes and recognition of blessings in the middle of intense danger gave the story depth and peace in the crazy. I liked they way she described the Alaskan wilderness.

ALASKAN CHRISTMAS TARGET by Sharon Dunn is the magnificent, edge of your seat, suspenseful story of Natasha Hale and Alaskan State Trooper Landon Defries. When someone snaps a photo, it has these two, strangers to each other, thrown together in a situation of life and death decision making while on the run from unknown assailants. They pray they can make it out alive!

Sharon, a widow of a police officer and once a police officer herself, is now in Witness Protection, after witnessing a mafia murder. Her second placement is in Little Bear, Alaska where she settled in for the past year working as a waitress in the Kodiak Diner owned by Betsy. When Gary, little Ezra’s father who doesn’t have custody, tries to kidnap him out the diner, Sharon’s police background kicks in. She can’t just sit and watch. If going as a hostage is the only way she can keep him safe, so be it. While she was able to bring him back safely, it also blew her cover. The press was there upon their returned. One photo and a video released now has announced to Leo Tan Creti, the mafia boss, her location. She’s no longer safe here and must leave here ASAP!

Landon loved Little Bear, but after the death of his wife two years ago, he’s been sort of disconnected. It’s just work and home. When he went to get Sharon’s statement after the kidnapping incident, he heard a woman yell. Follow what appeared to be a scuffle, he finds her where she’d fallen off a cliff trying to flee from escapee Gary. With the use of the search and rescue’s helicopter, she got back on solid ground. As Landon was taking her to the hospital to be checked out, they were ambushed. Whoever this lady was, something or someone was after her. He feels pulled to keep her safe not only as his duty as a copy, but more. First, he needs to find out the truth about what’s going on.

Will Sharon be forthcoming and accept Landon’s help? Can Brandon use his authority to keep her safe? Can they outrun whoever is after them in order to meet up with Sharon’s contact with Witness Protection? With mutual growing feelings, will Sharon being relocated and having to say goodbye be bittersweet?

ALASKAN CHRISTMAS TARGET is a riveting, page-turner book that immediately pulls you in to the suspenseful, compelling, can’t put down story. Sharon Dunn gives us a story of doing what’s right, despair, danger, putting others first, keeping one’s word, hope, romance and second chances at happiness all while wrapping it in a Christmas setting and with a wonderful thread of faith. ALASKAN CHRISTMAS TARGET is without a doubt a FIVE STAR book and I highly recommend it to everyone – at Christmas time or anytime of the year!

I received a copy of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

I have read a lot of Harlequin Romances in my life but none from this line, Love Inspired Suspense. Heavy on the suspense, less so on the romance but that's okay. Natasha is in the witness protection program in Alaska when her cover is blown. Trooper Landon is there to help her out-run the hitman that is tracking her for the whole book.

The thing I liked best about this book was that Natasha and Landon were treated as equals. She is a former cop and is just as capable as Landon is and they work together well. It was a refreshing change from the he-man rescue type of romance.

I guess I know what I’m getting into when I decide to read any LISIR book. I’m setting myself up for random spurts of Christianity that don’t usually make a lot of sense in context and seem to come out of nowhere, men in uniform, and girlbossery. This one was no exception, and I very much enjoyed the unintentional hilarity of it. 3/5 because I was bullying the book in my head my the entire time and couldn’t take it seriously.

I read this book after teasing my mom for always reading romances. She reads to two to three books a week and always chooses romances, my last genre to pick. But, I was pleasantly surprised. They were quick reads and a nice escape. I don't know that I'll choose more books in this genre but did enjoy reading these with my mom.
