A cute and heartwarming children’s story about an elf named Tog, whose only wish is to work in Santa’s workshop. There’s some magic, a lot of toys, reindeer and a mystery to be solved. Great for Christmas time.
The audiobook is narrated by the author and I thought he was excellent.
This is a delightful book about career aspirations and reality. It is also about free toys vs online shopping.
Tog wants to be a toy making elf since he was a child.
Yet his job application to become a toy maker in the Christmas workshop got no reply for a year.
The recruitment agent has ghosted Tog. It is probably not deliberate but it feel hurtful nevertheless.
I hope all recruiters read this and set auto-reply for all applications after the job post has been successfully filled. It is a simple setup for most recruitment systems. So, not doing it reflect how much recruiters care about the applicants.
Fortunately for Tog, he is a friend of Holly. Holly recommended to include Tog.
This is a horrible practice in real life. If someone can get a job just because they are friend with the children of the owner. It is unfair for other qualified candidates.
Anyway, he got in.
And he sucks at his job. Not unlike a lot of persons who get in because they know someone.
Tog was asked to be internally transferred to another department. Another common practice for deadweight worker.
Before all this happened, he was making personalised toys lemurs for the siblings and their friends.
So Tog was talented in a unique way.
The story has a plot, a mystery. Someone is stealing toys from the toy workshop.
Tog has met this thief, who dressed up as Santa.
The evil plot is someone wants to ruin Santa reputation.
So no children would get any toys for Christmas. And the stolen goods would be the base of an online toy shops.
Christmas is not about religion or toys. It is a few days of public holidays that free the workers to spend time with friends and family. It is a break.
I adored this little book. It was so fun and a fantastic festive read. Following the adventures of Tog the Christmas elf in his pursuit to become a toy maker. It was spot on and really funny. I love reading Ben Millers books, whether they’re adult, non fiction or children’s books, I always find them wonderfully written and really entertaining. I’ll definitely have to read his other ones now!
Visul i se indeplineste insa pentru a salva Craciunul, Tog trebuie sa sara peste orice obstacol ii apare in cale. Mi-a placut mult♥️ 5❄️ are de la mine♥️
3.5* Read this with my sons in the run up to Christmas. A fairly simple story with quite a predictable plot but the three of us enjoyed it and it got us in the mood for Christmas.
A very cute Christmas story about an elf named Tog who wants to work in Santa's workshop. Many don't have high hopes for him, but the reaction that he gets from some of the local children on the stuffed lemurs he begins to make inspires him to work hard during a trial run at Santa's workshop. Things don't go as planned, and Tog finds himself in hot water. Accused as a thief, Tog has to win over some new friends to help him find the real culprit and save Christmas.
BOOK REVIEW 📚 All Tog wants to do is work in Santa's workshop and one wonderful day, the letter from Santa arrives: Tog has been selected as an apprentice elf!
Making toys is a lot more technical and a lot less fun than Tog had imagined, and even though his new friend Holly tries to help him, he's quickly relegated to cleaning out the reindeer stables. But someone has been stealing the presents from the workshop and a case of mistaken identity finds Tog accused of being the culprit!
Can Tog use his special Christmas magic to discover the real thief and save all the presents before Christmas Eve is over?
My Thoughts: This was a lovely story that I shared with Edward. We read this as our Elf Yoyo, brings a book every December. We were hoping for a happier read this year and this we got with Ben Miller's book.
There were laugh out loud moments as Tog strives to become a Christmas elf by hand making Lemur toys and in addition saves Christmas.
We loves the pocket size of the book and the diary entries were rather funny also.
This was perfect for my 8 year old to read by himself however he wanted to share the reading with me 😍and in doing so, we had lots of lovely memories too
There is a weird combination here of a very simple plot most likely for 6-7 year olds with a quite mature character and some references that are for older children. This doesn't work in my opinion. It would have been better to make Tog younger and just stick to kid stuff. I don.t really see a 14 year old reading this one so making Tog 16 is a bit inappropriate. The narrative style itself seems to move from being very childish to being very mature. Long story short, something is off and the story is mediocre so no reason to pick this one up.
This book was so heartwarming and fun for both children and adults to read during the holiday season. All Tog wants to be is one of Santa's elves and work in Santa's Workshop. His dream comes true when he gets chosen to be an apprentice elf. Where he soon discovers making the toys for Santa's workshop isn't as easy as he thought it would be. This quick and easy read was a 5* for me.
Everything you could hope for in a silly season read. Plenty of elves, plenty of magic and a whole lot of fun! There were also some really beautiful themes along the way about fitting in when you are the 'outcast.'
this was a fun Christmas story...good for family. super fun because you learn things about elves and Santa AND Rudolph can talk!!! And the author is the narrator and I always like that.
