Anne has worked for her sexy, ex-surfer, businessman boss for seven years, and she’s been in love with him for two. Jake doesn’t think about her as anything but his ever-efficient assistant, though. She’s been trying to get over her feelings by dating other men and interviewing for other jobs—which doesn’t make Jake very happy. But Anne is determined not to put her life on hold for him.
When she gets a new job offer, Jake will do anything he can to keep her, but he still only seems to want her as an employee. Anne might find him irresistible, but she’s learned to resist. There are lines that he’ll just never cross.
Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn't stopped writing since. She has lived in eight different states and currently resides in Virginia, where she teaches English, reads any book she can get her hands on, and offers tribute to a very spoiled cocker spaniel.
She loves travel, art, history, and ice cream. After spending far too many years of her life in graduate school, she has decided to reorient her priorities and focus on writing contemporary romances.
Weak heroine. Stupid hero ( I blind??)). She was in love with him for 2 years. And he liked her but did nothing to be more.... Good thing they used condoms.
This is a lovely, romantic novella. The story of the secret love between Jake, an ex-professional surfer, and Anne, a personal assistant. Anne had been working for Jake for seven years. She was desperately in love with him but there was no hope for her because Jake never showed any sign of interest or desire. But when both of them had to go out of town to attend a business meeting, they had one hot night together. And that changed everything between them forever!
I enjoyed this one a lot. When I finished it, I just found out that it's the fourth book in the series. I think it isn't a problem to read this novella as a standalone though.
Una lectura entretenida, nada del otro mundo debido al ser un relato corto pero estoy orgullosa de haber conseguido leerlo en inglés y no morir en el intento. Se lee muy bien.
What is there really to say? I dont mind a novella if done well but this was like nothing. Considering that there is a preview of a future novel at the end, this was more like 55 pages.
I love surfer dudes!!! Jake is a former champion surfer. He blew out his knee and now owns a string of successful surf shops. He is quite the workaholic. Anne has been his assistant for 7 years and has had a crush on Jake. This is a short hot sweet little gumdrop of a romance. So intelligently written. Ms Adams wields her words with authority! And the trademark sexy times! Hawt. Though it is a novella you still get enough of a backstory to connect with the MCs. The action is tight. No words wasted. If you love well written romances between adults, pick up a Noelle Adams book. You can't go wrong.
A pretty straightforward story about an assistant in love with her boss, who returns her feelings unbeknownst to her.
Anne has finally decided to stop torturing herself and leave her current job and her workaholic boss Jake behind. She has just handed him her notice and is on a last work trip with him when things finally change between them.
Short and sweet with a believable happily ever after.
So I was looking for another book in this series when I noticed the Kindle download was free for this one so I thought, why not.
It was a under 100 pages novella and I thought the writing was witty and entertaining. I like Anne's charachter, who didn't just fold so easily for Jake. She put her career above her romantic feelings and in the end, got both the job and the man.
Anne has worked for Jake for 7 years as his assistant but she gets a great career opportunity and gives Jake her 2 weeks notice. He asks her to accompany his on one last business trip after his pleas for her to stay in the position fail.
Will the trip together make sparks fly and Jake realize he can't just let Anne walk away from his life? Yes!
This is steamy novella in the ‘One Night’ series of novellas by Noelle Adams, which explores how everything can change in just one night. Here, Anne has been working for ex-professional surfer Jake as his personal assistant for the last seven years. For the last two of those years she has been madly in love with him, but sees no reciprocation on his part. Whether he isn’t interested because they work together or he just isn’t interested full stop she doesn’t know.
“She’d worked for him for years, and he’d never showed her the slightest sign of real interest. An intense look now and then didn’t mean anything. Besides, he was her boss, and he would never make a move on her – simply because of that.”
However, today things have changed; Marketing graduate Anne wasn’t able to get a job in Marketing when she graduated because of the downturn in the economy which is how she ended up working for Jake, but now she’s just been offered just the type of job she wants. The only downside for her is not being able to see Jake any more, but she can’t hold back on her career just for that:
“Anne nodded, feeling better and determined now to give notice this afternoon, to make it real, to get it over with. “It’s about me. And a great job. And finding a guy who actually wants me.”
When Anne tells Jake that she’s resigning he seems desperate to keep her as his assistant, which doesn’t bode well for Anne’s feelings towards him. She knows that Jake prioritises his business over everything else and this just underlines her determination to leave. Jake and Anne have to go out of town on business that evening, and she finds that her roommates were correct, Jake does see her as more than just part of the office fixtures and fittings...
I’ve enjoyed all of this series and this one was no exception. Anne was a loveable lead and Jake quite the emotionally repressed alpha male until he realised what he was about to allow to slip through his fingers. This is a quick read, but if you wanted a quick, steamy read then I’d recommend it, and in fact any of the others in the series.
Great, quick, hot read, but still filled to the brim with Noelle's dose of emotion. The perfect read if you are looking for a quick read that you can devour in one sitting. Jake is sexy and intriguing from the start. The story instantly pulled me in.
Would've been a 5-star read for me, but there were some things at the end of the book that I wish the heroine would've handled differently.
Anne has been employed with Jake, an ex-surfer turned mogul, for seven years. For two of those years, she has been secretly in love with him. When they attend a business trip, a spark ignites between the two. But is it just a one night stand? Or will it turn into more.
This was a short and sweet novella. It was entertaining, the only downside I wish it was a tad longer. I wouldn't have mind delving deeper into the personalities of the characters.
Extremely underwhelming read, even for a short novella with a simple contemporary romance. The romance itself wasn't bad, and Anne's attempts to move forward with her life, and her determination not to put her life on hold for a crush is commendable. The ending angst seemed a bit juvenile and unnecessary, and kind of rushed; but at least it wasn't drawn out. Characters were okay and good, had potential, and maybe would have benefited from a longer story with more development.
Not much else to say about it. I never reviewed the first three One Night novellas--enjoyed the first two, found the third lacking.
This was even tinier than bite-sized, and easily finished within the hour if you have nothing else to do in the meantime--something to pick up if you're between books and not sure what you want to read next.
I will probably stop reading this series with this last novella, though.
It was very short and very sweet but the heroine was kinda immature and rather weak. I think it would've been much better if that was a full length, not a novelette. But for such a short read it was actually kinda cute.
Such good mutual pining between Anne and Jake! It totally made me tear up. This was an angsty morsel that I couldn’t put down.
Characters: Anne is a 28 year old white administrative assistant. Jake is a 39 year old disabled white business owner and ex-surfer. This is set in California.
Content notes: past career-ending knee injury, past death of FMC’s mother, unsafe sex practices (no discussion of STI status), on page sex, gender essentialist language, ableist language
This was another great short read that has some real potential for a longer book but the novella was great too and gave us a good sense of the characters and their story.
I went in to this book not realizing it was a super short novella. But after reading just a short while and not understanding why the hero was already professing his amor for her, I looked down and saw the percentage was already close to 100%. So with understanding that it was meant to be a short and sweet love story... it wasn't "bad". The only negative I felt was how the heroine handled the "morning after". I felt she was completely over dramatic and immature. Honestly, if it was me, I would have just assumed that the hero was trying to be considerate and had gone to shower in his own room, as to not awaken her by being noisy. I am currently reading Engaging The Boss by Noelle Adams, and it has a similar (full-length) storyline idea and I am enjoying it much better.
Anna’s working for her boss Jake who used to be a professional surfer until he blew out his knee ten years before the book even happened.
Anna took the job seven years before because she needed it at the time with her mom sick with cancer and the economy being bad. She hadn’t planned on staying, but it’s been seven years. She has loved Jack for four of those years though.
Jake is all business, but he’s dated however it’s never been serious. He has secrets of watching Anna when she’s not looking by what he tells her near the end of this novella
Jake is taken by surprise when Anna tells him she is turning in her two weeks notice. He is not happy at all and tells her he’ll give her anything she wants to stay.
Anna can’t be bought and she refuses. She won’t stay when what she want really is Jake, but she thinks she’ll never have him. She is always concerned about his well being and making sure his knee doesn’t give him problems since it still acts up.
However, things change on the business trip they drive to San Deigo to help out one of his new employees, but he never gets around to helping Stew because after they share a night of passion together things get misunderstood.
Jake went to get breakfast, but she didn’t know and she left without talking to Jake. Thankfully he went after her though and straightened it all out with Anna’s wrong thoughts.
I loved this novella, but Anna’s over reaction at first to Jake leaving her in the bed deducted a star. It just made me want to yell at her for not thinking. Got this on Amazon for free.
**I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review**
Anne and Jake have been working side by side for seven years now. Anne has always been in love with her boss, but has never acted on her feelings for him because she always had hope that he would eventually come out and tell her that he felt the same way for her.
Anne came to the conclusion that she just couldn't continue working for him when her feelings for him just kept getting stronger and stronger so she found a job that was more suitable to her degree and gave him her two weeks notice. Jake didn't take it lightly and was doing everything in his power to keep her on board, but Anne just wouldn't budge.
I loved Anne because she showed that even though she was madly in love with her boss, she was determined to leave him and move on with her life, no matter how hard it was for her. She was strong, independent and also very determined.
Jake and Anne did end up having their one night together, but what did this conclude to? Did they end up together forever or did they decide on going their separate ways? You will have to read the book in order to find out ;)
I love Noelle Adams and the books I've read so far from her have captivated me and I love them. She is an excellent writer. I will continue reading her books, no doubt about that!
I give this 4.5 stars, even though this was a short novella, it was well worth reading :)
I generally enjoy Noelle Adams books, but One Night with Her Boss is not the best of her works. It was an alright read, but not as good as I would have hoped.
Anne has been working for Jake for a number of years now. She never meant for her assistant job to be permanent. She took it when she needed to be close to family and she has been in love with Jake for the past two years. She is finally starting to try and find another job and hopefully move on. After all to her Jake has never been anything but her boss. He never seems to want more from her, even if her friends think he does.
When Anne gives her two weeks notice Jake does not take it very well. He needs Anne. He wants Anne. Things move quickly as this is a novella, but that was fine. I was enjoying the story. My issue with the story? The sexy time was awkward. The writing was a bit off for me for some reason and it just didn't work. Not sure why as I have read the authors other works and never had an issue with this, but in this instant it just was not good for me. That and Anne is a little ridiculous at the end causing drama when there was no need. But it all works out in the end and everyone is happy. A good read, just not an amazing read.
It's a little predictable (but not in a bad way) the characters were fresh, minor misunderstandings that worked in the scope and length of the story. A bit like crack, I had to immediately get the next two installments.
Anne has been Jake's Administrative Assistant for 7 years and been in love with him for 2. He's a former pro surfer sidelined by an injury who made a career out of a string of pro-surf shops. His work is the focus of his life.
Anne's original plan was to go into marketing but a depressed market and the need to work steady led her to Jake. Now, she's finally accepted that Jake will never think of her as anything as other than his assistant when a marketing job opens up for her.
Jake is taken aback when Anne tells him she's giving notice, he starts to throw counter offers to her to get her to stay but she's leaving for the right reasons for her even though she hates the idea of not seeing him again.
They take a business trip to San Diego and things change (wink, wink), they have some hick-ups to get through but I love how it's obvious, though Jake values Anne as his employee, he's really as gone for her as she is for him.
Minor panic attack and a beautiful reunion ensue. What can I say? This author took a simple story and turned it into something I could love.
This book was a short and sweet romance. This is the kind of book that puts a smile on your face while reading. You will devour this book in one siting and dive into the next in the series.
What happens when you want someone you can't have? Do you move on or take your chance? Do you fight for what you want or give it up? Anne wants Jake but is tired of waiting around. Jakes is going to do everything he can to make her stay. One night when the lines cross between Jake and Anne, is there any coming back? Do you take a chance or not?
Jake and Anne had tons of chemistry. I loved Anne's attitude to move on even when it hurt. It was amazing to watch these two come together.
One Night with her Boss is the fourth instalment in the One Night Novellas series. I have slowly been trying to make my way through the whole series.
This novella is only 71 pages so there isn't a whole lot that can happen in those few pages. It is a typical and predictable romance that follows the same formula as all of the novellas before it. In fact, I am glad that I didn't read it back to back with her other ones because they are all very similar. Having said that, these novellas are great entertainment when you are short on reading time and are looking for a quick fix of romance and steam.
A very short read that doesn't go too deep plot-wise, but makes for a nice quick story. For as short as the story was, there was still good insight to the characters and a complete tale-if told super-quick.
I liked Jake's flirty side, and found him to be a good leading man. Anne was just okay for me-mostly due to her habit of making assumptions, something I really don't care for in characters of romance stories. But Jake's character made up for a lot of that, as well as Anne's roommates.
If you're looking for a good, quick read with a bit of spice, One Night with Her Boss will fit the bill.
Pretty good novella - liked the story, the writing and the characters. I would have given this 4.5 stars if it was longer (more Anne/Jake backstory and interaction). 3.5 stars.
