Sweet Ridge High #2

My After-School Tutor

Wanting to be someone's first choice is never enough...

Milla

It's like the universe dumped on me from day one. It wasn't enough that I had to put up with having Jasmine--a walking, talking, breathing Barbie doll--for a sister.

"Let's make Milla short, so she'll ALWAYS have to look up to her as well."

Fine. I'd never wanted anything of hers anyway.
Until a certain blue-eyed boy crossed my path, that is.
And he fell head over heels.
For my sister.
Of course he did.
How can I help Zayn with his studies and still escape with my heart intact?

Zayn

Getting a scholarship to play college football had been my dream since I first learned to throw a spiral as a kid. And I had the talent. Just not the grades. College programs expected their quarterbacks to not only pass their classes, but to do so by a comfortable margin. That was a skill set I needed to work on.

Maybe I needed more help than I thought.
I had an online tutor who wouldn't tell me who she was.
An ex-girlfriend I couldn't shake.
And the new girl, Milla, really didn't like me--everybody liked me. I'm a likable guy.

Whatever. I could take a hit. I'd just rather be run over by a charging defensive lineman than get on the wrong side of Milla Kent. Which I somehow managed to do. Girls.
Forget math. I needed a tutor for the opposite sex.

Cute High School romance

I loved high school. That doesn't mean I would want to go back, but I have good memories and this series transports me back to my past. I don't know a lot about football, but I loved going to the games and cheering my school on and in this first book of the new year at Sweet Mountain High, Milla becomes an assistant to the team and takes her job seriously. It would be hard to be a new student for your senior year, and I loved watching Milla figure her life out and thrive in her new environment.

Zayn doesn't make a good first impression, but his charm, animation, and sincerity made him grow on me very quickly. I loved how opposite they were from each other, yet how likable they both were. The tutor angle was a tiny bit strange, since it was anonymous, but that's kind of what made it so enjoyable. I liked the way Rigby switches back and forth between points of view and really gets into the characters heads.

If a cute high school romance is your cup of tea, be sure to check out this book and this series!

Content: mild romance; very mild violence (sports related)

SO cute!! I really enjoyed this quick read. It was sweet without being saccharine. And I just loved how Tad and Zayn rallied around Milla. It was really uplifting, which is what I’m needing in my life right now. I also enjoyed that there were zero cringey embarrassing moments.

I also appreciated that this was strictly PG. MAAAAAYBE *I* would’ve liked it to be a LITTLE more spicy, but the fact that it isn’t makes it appropriate for all readers. Also, Milla had never dated or been kissed or anything else, so anything more than what we got would have definitely been uncomfortable for her and out of character.

I was a little aggravated with Jasmine and how perfect she is and how Milla felt SOOO inferior. I’m sure this could happen in real life - even if not so literal, one sister could feel inferior to another - but it really bothered my perfectionist nature and made for a little nagging in the back of my mind. Especially because.... 👇🏻

Once Zayn goes to college and probably the NFL, he’s going to change soooo much. He’s going to be romanced and schmoozed and have hot girls falling all over him. He’s going to realize he ISN’T beneath them and they aren’t out of his league. And...I’m not sure he and Milla would make it through all the changes coming in Zayn’s future. And that nagged at the back of my mind. But the fact that this doesn’t have a sequel story means we’re to take this story for what it is and just be happy about it. And if there WAS a sequel, I’m sure it’d be full of angst and turmoil and probably not be a happy story. Unfortunately, that’s how real life works. BUT...don’t we read these kinds of books to escape real life?

Anyway...in summary: I would recommend this one and I would probably read more by the author. My only wish was for a little bit more witty humor/banter.

I really loved this book. I LOVED Zayn and he is such good guy. I read a couple reviews about how Milla and Zayn would never make it with his potential fame. It made me worried to read it, but honestly I couldn’t disagree more. Zayn and Milla have end game written all over them. Zayn adores Milla and feels such a strong bond with her and once he was able to break down some of Mills’s walls she was a goner too. This just seemed like a real genuine relationship that grew strong through friendship and caring for one another.
Speaking of friendships Tad is pretty great. He and Zayn were so enjoyable to watch. They love each other like family. The whole team seemed pretty great. I like that they were always respectful to Milla.
I was not looking forward to Hannah and her behavior, so I was pleasantly surprised by her in the end.
To the author: I don’t normally give very detailed reviews and I have certainly never added suggestions to the author in one. Please know that I very much I really enjoyed the book. I also don’t know what the group of authors agreed upon for these series. Please don’t take offense to my comments that follow. It’s not meant to criticize. My biggest complaint about this series and the first is the “epilogues”. Most people want to see the couple fast forwarded and get to see their happily ever after. Yes, these are high school romances…but we all want to see them beat the odds and stay together.
Can we get a little novella from the authors with a chapter for each couple with real epilogue? Or maybe offer a bonus epilogue to people on email list?
Also, please tell me you are going to give Tad his own story. I thought for sure we were going to get one with how you so nicely set it up within this book. I’ve felt that way about many of the prominent side characters in the first series too. You all have so much to work with.

And last thing…Go Bucks! Proud born and raised Buckeye who bleeds scarlet and gray. 🏈

I really wanted to love this book as much as the previous one in the series - My brother's Best Friend. I just couldn't. Maybe it was disliking the mmc being a football player and the mfc being a nerd (so cliche). Maybe it was that I definitely didn't feel the romance. Maybe it was not being able to get excited about football, which was a main storyline in the book.

Having said that, Milla was a rock star! What a great character. She had me at loving Ruth Baden Ginsburg. She kept me loving her with her work with empowering other girls/women during their periods and shedding more light on the that issue. I didn't realize that some girls miss school because they afford feminine products. It's an issue most people don't feel comfortable talking about so - go Milla! And I love the way she intentionally didn't choose an Ivy League college so she could have a blank slate. Great, well developed character.

Sweet - and funny - YA perfection!

I'm a big fan of Randi Rigby's writing - she made it so easy for me to fall in love with Milla and Zayn.

Milla is a hoot - when my heart isn't breaking for her - and Zayn is such a sweetheart! (Can I say that about the star QB? It's true, though...). I also appreciate Zayn's close friendship with Tad and Milla's relationship with her Nana (who is da bomb, btw!).

This story made me smile out loud (a lot) and swoon (ditto) and cry (a little).

Bonus points for a short cameo by Harper, Luke, and Cal (from "My Brother's Best Friend"), and it was fun seeing so many other familiar names from the first Sweet Mountain High series.

More, please?

This one was weird. The writing was a little stilted. And frequently the motivations for characters’ decisions were entirely unclear. Right at the beginning Mills overhears Zayn mention that her sister is hot. She then decides she hates him and is rude to him because of this. I get that she’s insecure, but hating a random person (not even one she had a crush on) for liking someone else is weird. She then ends up tutoring him but decides it has to be anonymous, again, for no apparent reason. Other that the smart girl making lots of stupid decisions the characters were good and the story was sort of sweet, but there was nothing really to it. Nothing really happened.

So cute!

I know our MC isn’t super fond of that word but really it’s the perfect word for this book. This YA romance is the perfect contemporary romance with all the warm fuzzies and feels you could every want. It’s not complex and I love that. There isn’t some major drama that threatens the relationship although there are a couple small kinks just so it isn’t too easy lol. Still, everyone needs to read a sweet, uncomplicated, romance in order to remember that love doesn’t have to be a big conflicting bag of drama to be enticing. Love is “in the details.”

Love it

It was such a great story to read. I like the fact that is wasn't cliche. Milla wasn't a need or the definite loner. She just liked her own company and she was quick with her mind, she still easily became friends with the team. And I loved Zane. He was so easy going, but really nice. And I especially liked the humour and the tampontuesday. Loved it.not a cliche and no excess drama

This was a great story. Not groundbreaking or anything but I really enjoyed it. I liked the characters and the lack of unnecessary drama and the way it was written. I was a little surprised myself...
I need to go know more about this author because I think I like her...

I read an ARC of this book. I still would have liked it if it wasn’t an ARC, I promise.

Very Sweet Read ❤️❤️

I absolutely fell in love with Milla! She may feel small and insignificant compared to her sister and her parents but she was by far the true sun in this story! She shines the brightest and is definitely a spitfire! Love, love, love Zayn for our little Milla!!! He truly did make her feel “seen” and the way he showed her…perfect!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the first page until the very last. It has been a very rare occurrence that I could just pick up a book and read it in one day; but, I was captivated by these characters and their amazing love story instantaneously.

Sweet couple

I absolutely loved the main character Zayn! He was so sweet! I loved how he was the opposite of a bully. It was great to make him a lovable guy. Milla was definitely relatable in the whole felt less than aspect. But I like how she stood up for herself.

A very sweet romance. No real conflict, and the characters didn't develop much. But the love interests were mature and kind. Also, the author didn't rely on outrageous misunderstandings to fuel the plot which was greatly appreciated.

Beautiful Sweet YA Romance

This is a classic brilliant girl meets athletic boy. Can tutoring be the start of an amazing friendship? Can these two look beyond the social stigmatism and see each other for who they really are? Come along for a fantastic ride:) Happy Reading!

Sweet

I liked that the romance was sweet , the novel was clean and there was a great message that I never considered as a woman myself. The 2 main characters got the attention they needed and great support from their closest minor characters. Great, Rigby!

Another lighthearted but fun read from Randi Rigby. Zayne was so sweet and patient with Milla, and it was awesome to read about a short, spunky queen finding love.

This was really good and I loved it. It could be even better if it went more into detail of milla's past and her relationship with her sister and mom. Loved zayn and tad and how good friends they were for milla. Would've liked to know more about zayn and Hannah's relationship.

(3/5) lol I think she’s short and petite guys idk tho🤷‍♀️ anyway this book was lowk so stupid but it was so fast paced that I don’t even really care. Felt more like a novella than a full length book but myb that’s just me.

Teen romance with character

A sweet wholesome story with likeable characters. It has a well developed story. My first Randi Rigby book and I enjoyed her style of writing. Looking forward to the next in the series but also wary that it will be a different author.
