Twilight Sparkle has ruled Equestria for over a thousand years. From her throne atop the floating city of Concord, she enforces ruthless harmony over the handful of surviving settlements. But Twilight is afraid: Equestria's survival always hangs by a thread, as enemies more ancient than the Alicorns threaten to return and devour what she has built.
Twilight selects her star pupil, a young unicorn named Star Orchid, to travel down from the perfect city of Concord into the dangerous ruins beneath, so that she might locate these forces, and help Twilight to destroy them. Only when every threat to Equestria is finally dismantled will she be able to rest. Until then, there is much left to purify.
Starscribe is, at his core, not a fanfic writer. He is a writer of classic SF who mysteriously gets paid by Suspiciously Wealthy Furries™ to write horse ebooks.
And it shows, that his best works are the human-focused ones, with pastel-colored ungulates being a generic standin for Ridiculously Fuckable Aliens, somehow escaping the ghetto of shit-tier isekai plaguing the “human in Equestria” “genre”.
This story very much reads like Message in a Bottle 2, except this time Equestria is Earth in the future, Wall-E style. “We have created life, now life rebels against us!” Isn't that the oldest SF plot?
Except this time it's not the plot, it's the premise. The actual plot is about an in-the-head paladin who became that way due to battling x-risk.
Which is my absolute favorite kind of tragic anti-hero.
