O sick person! In order to display the garment of your body with which He has clothed you, bejeweled with such luminous faculties as the eye, the ear, the reason, and the heart, and the embroideries of His most beautiful names, the All-Glorious Maker makes you revolve amid numerous states and changes you in many situations. Just as you learn of His name Provider through hunger, so come to know His name Healer through your illness. Since suffering and calamities show the decrees of some of His names , many instances of good are to be found within those flashes of wisdom and rays of mercy. If the veil of illness, which you fear and loathe, were to be lifted, behind it you would find many agreeable and beautiful meanings.
Said Nursî, (1878 – March 23, 1960) is an Islamic scholar who wrote Risale-i Nur Collection, a body of Qur'anic commentary exceeding six thousand pages. He is commonly known as Bediüzzaman, which means "the wonder of the age".
He was finally released in 1949. In the last decade of his life he settled in Isparta city. After the introduction of the multi-party system he advised his followers to vote for the Democratic Party of Adnan Menderes which gained the support of the rural and conservative populations. Because Said Nursî considered communism the greatest danger of that time, he also supported the pro-Western orientation of the Democrats, leading to his support of NATO, CENTO and Turkey's participation in the Korean war. He tried to unite Muslims and Christians in the struggle against communism and materialism therefore he corresponded with the Pope and the Greek Orthodox patriarch.
In 1956 he was allowed to have his writings printed. His books are collected under the name The Collection Of Risale-i Nur (Letters of Light). His tomb in Urfa (demolished in July 1960)
He died of exhaustion after traveling to Urfa. He was buried on the premises where according to Islamic beliefs Abraham (Ibrahim) is buried. After the military coup d'état in Turkey in 1960, a group of soldiers led by the later extreme right-wing politician Alparslan Türkeş opened his grave and buried him at an unknown place near Isparta during July 1960 in order to prevent popular veneration. His followers are reported to have found his grave after years of searching in the area, and took his remains to a secret place in an effort to protect his body from further disturbance. Now, only two followers of him know where he is buried. When one of them dies, the other one tells one more person the secret place of the grave reducing the chance that the place be forgotten. Interestingly enough, he wrote in a treaty (risala), that no one should know where his tomb is.

Illness, suffering and disaster are facts of life from which no one is exempt. Mostly they are seen to be inseparable evils of life, despite the advances in medicine, science and technology in modern times.
The twenty five "remedies" that Nursi offers in this book spring from the Qur'an and present an entirely different view of illness and disaster. Considered in the light of the Qur'an and through the lens of belief, illness is seen to contain so many benefits, advantages, and instances of wisdom that far from being something to be feared and complained about, it should be submitted to with thanks and patience.
Sickness washes away the dirt of sins like soap, and cleanses. It is established in a sound Hadith that illnesses are atonement for sins. And in another Hadith it says: "As ripe fruits fall on their tree being shaken, so the sins of a believer fall away on his shaking with illness."

No sé bien qué número de estrellas darle. Creo que para un creyente acérrimo, este libro será una guía, una puerta. En mi caso, hubo muchos puntos interesantes, y otros más bien problemáticos. La enfermedad sí transforma. No sólo la física, sino también la espiritual y la emocional. Puede ser un catalizador de tranformaciones. Suena interesante pensar en la posibilidad de que todo se le pueda dar a Dios, y de que todo es una buena acción de él. Ahora, no sé bien porqué Dios necesitaría de tantas adoraciones tan específicas. Creo que mi descontento es con eso, con esa idea de un Dios narcisista, en vez de uno compasivo. El libro me lo prestó un amigo musulmán, después de decirme que: "Dios rompe un corazón para que le entre luz".

Признавам,че не познавам исляма и нямам задълбочена представа за контекста на тази книга; попаднах на нея случайно и я зачетох набързо; хареса ми заглавието, оформлението, кратичкият формат, и затова я купих; сега съжалявам, че не взех цялата серия, защото повече никъде не съм я виждала. Нурси говори кротко, красиво и без назидание; в неговите уста религията става вяра, утешава, нещо повече - вдъхва смисъл на страданието. Като го чете човек, му се приисква да вярва.
