2.5* i picked this up, hoping to learn about the background of someone i care about- here’s the thing. i came into this book with absolutely no knowledge of the wheel of the year. i left with slightly more, but it was not what i expected. i went into this thinking i would get a lot more content and context of the pagan and wiccan holidays and their background, and ended up only skimming a significant portion of this on account of the spells and recipes. i wanted the background of the wheel of the year. that was the heart of it, and the important part to me. so when i was met with the craft and recipes, i ended up only skimming big chunks of this book.

i will say though. i enjoyed learning about saturnalia (roman/pagan festival for christmas) and also, imbolc. i liked how the author talked about the dichotomy between “good wilderness” and “bad agriculture” and biases that we project onto animals.

i almost gave this book 3 stars, because i still left with significantly more information than i came into it with- but it is an almanac, after all. it ended with a recipe / ritual that i ended up skipping over, which was just unsatisfying for me. so 2.5— im hoping to find a better, more thorough and informative book similar to this eventually.

This is the 3rd Llewellyn Sabbats Almanac that I've read (3 consecutive years). I found 2019-2020 has been my favorite so far. I do really love all the stories and additional information about the historical events and traditions behind each Sabbat. That's my favorite part of these Almanacs. So far, I will continue to read these.

This book as all the year's Sabbats, Major and Minor starting with Samhain in 2021 and ending with Mabon in 2022.

Each Sabbat "Unit" contains each one of these "Chapters":
An introduction/story/history for each Sabbat- Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas, and Mabon
Cosmic Sway - The important Moons during that Sabbat holiday
Feasts and Treats - recipes
Tales and Trditions - contains the history of that Sabbat and/or a ritual and/or another craft
Crafty Crafts - sharing craft ideas for the holiday
Candle Magic - simple and easy candle magic "spell" for that holiday
Sabbat Ritual - a ritual or spell for that Sabbat (typically for a group)

Although I meant to read this at each point in the Wheel of the Year, I got behind and missed several sabbats so decided to read the rest of the book in one sitting.

I enjoyed a lot the informative chapters and the chapters on spell work, but skimmed the recipes and crafts. This was my first year getting this particular almanac and it's quite like the Sabbat Essentials series of books from the same publisher, although with different articles.

Second year reading this almanac. Slowly appreciating even more the old world and nature. I already but the 2022-2023, just in time for Samhain.

A great book for anyone wanting ideas and inspiration for the sabbats. Each sabbat is broken into several sections. We begin with an introduction - an overview of the season and its energy, followed by the astrology of that time of year, next is tales and traditions of the sabbat, before feasts and treats, then crafty crafts, and a unique spell or ritual. This book is brimming with wonderful creative ideas, delicious recipes and simple spells to delight any witch.

Good supplemental info; some occasions were much better than others. Enough there to make it worth holding on to, but really only a small bit that's specific to this year.

This almanac helped me connect to the seasons and appreciate the passage of time. <3 Grateful to the creative ideas interspersed with thoughts on change, derived from the Celtic tradition. Truly an almanac in the sense that the knowledge collectively comes from practicing witches. Adored turning to it for each Sabbat!
