Rate this book
He’s on one side of the fight to preserve Cape Corral. She’s on the other.

Abigail Ferguson wakes up in a strange place with bruises on her face and her hands bound. Someone is trying to teach her family a painful lesson and using Abigail as a pawn. When she’s able to call for help, only one person comes to mind—law enforcement officer Grant Matthews.

Grant has been crazy about Abigail since they met. But her wealthy family is a long-standing enemy of locals, and dating her would feel like a betrayal to the community he serves. However, when Abigail is abducted and needs his help, nothing will stop him from rescuing and protecting her.

As Abigail’s captor makes it clear he has more dastardly deeds planned, Grant and Abigail work together to try to find answers. But their growing feelings—and the obstacles between them—might put Abigail in even more danger. Can the two figure out this man’s identity before it’s too late? Or will the clever madman taunting Abigail stop at nothing to achieve what he wants?

Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush
When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.

Have you ever felt broken, worn down, pulled, and tossed like a branch of a tree in the rolling waves of the ocean? Did you know that branch becomes smooth, beautiful, and cherished in many people’s eyes? There is hope that all things will work out.
That’s what this book by Christy Barritt shows us.
Abigail feels like she’s on one side and everyone else is on the other, just because of her name. Try as she might she can’t seem to rise above what she feels others think of her, and now when she needs someone by her side she feels all alone. Will she be able to survive?
So, true to form like any books by Christy Barritt you’ll be taken on a ride like you will never believe. Her writings are always full of suspense, action, twist, and turns. This one is no different. There is so much that happens from the first page to the last that you will need to remind yourself to breathe as you read this book.
The book takes us from one twist to another. We as readers, don’t know who really has done it until the end. Try as I might, I’m always shaking my head and thinking, “why didn’t I guess that?”
If you LOVE “who-done-it” stories with mystery, suspense, action, and a bit of relationship tension plus romance mixed in, you will love this book! You might even have to read the whole series because you will fall in love with this island and the people, so much so that you will want to know all the events that have happened.
The way the author writes this book keeps you on the edge of your chair and won't let you put the book down until you are finished; this is what I love about reading a book by Christy Barritt. I know I'll be captured from the very first line.
After reading this series I even did my own research. I’ve been fascinated with the whole idea of wild horses running free on an island, so I looked it up and yeah, it’s true and sort of cool!
I highly recommend you pick up this book and the whole series. You won’t be disappointed.
I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wild horses

This series continue to define romantic suspense with integrity of writing. An island setting with wild horses and focused on the men and women who serve and protect. The romance Christy Barritt writes acknowledges the attractions and desires as couples fall in love but also the respect for God that waits for marriage as another show of loving respect. Pages turned quickly and I felt the absolute terror Abigail faced in captivity and helpless! Another very enjoyable book!

Very good series. This story took a slightly "creepier" turn to it in that the bad guy, in most situations, had no conscience and was willing to do whatever he had to to get the money from Abigail Ferguson's father.

The story begins with Abigail in a cabin having been beaten and drugged as a calling card for her father that this person is willing to go to any lengths to get what he wants. Abigail's father doesn't come running when he learns what's happened to his daughter and she is finally seeing what kind of man he is.

Grant likes Abigail, but they are from two different worlds and her family would never accept him. Both Abigail and Grant realize this, but can they see that what others think doesn't matter in time?!

I really liked this story. I had inklings of who the bad guy was, but just couldn't quite figure it out, even though there were plenty of hints at it. The romance was also easy to take. Sometimes I get frustrated because the parties are fighting their interest so hard when it isn't necessary. This had some angst and tugs, but Grant and Abigail knew that what they had was special and they didn't want to mess it up - but how to overcome the obstacles!

This is a clean read.

A fantastic conclusion to the Saltwater Cowboys series. Though I think the first four books can be read out of order, this one definitely needs to be read last as there's resolution to the over-arcing issue with the danger to the wild horses on the island - so, this one is full of spoilers.

Barritt knows how to spin a suspenseful tale while deftly threading in the romance. In this case, it's a doomed love story -- not quite Romeo and Juliet -- but Abigail is a dreaded Ferguson -- the family that is against the whole island population! They are wealthy, entitled and determined to build a resort at any cost. Grant sides with the locals and can't tolerate Abigail's father and his shady business dealings. But he's also attracted to the man's daughter and they've struck up a friendship of sorts, both knowing nothing can come of it until...

Well, if you enjoy tense, edge-of-your-seat opening scenes with the hero riding to the rescue, then Driftwood Danger should definitely be on your TBR. A well-paced thrill of a romantic suspense.

Why was Abigail Ferguson Kidnapped?

Abigail's father is a money hungry business man trying to build a resort on this island where the wild horses needed to run free. Grant is a lawman for the Forestry Department trying to save the horses and the island. Abigail and Grant are good friends, but the conflict between a wealthy family and the poorer people on the island stands in their way. Then Abigail is kidnapped, and then released with the knowledge that her father needs to do something although Abigail doesn't know what or when. Danger dogs her life, and Grant tries to protect her, plus figure out what the next danger will be. Christy Barritt is brilliant at her clues, storyline and characters. Will this be the last of this batch of romantic suspense novels?

Christy Barritt pulls off another exciting, fast-paced, and suspenseful mystery that you can’t put down! This one features Grant Matthews, a law enforcement office on Cape Coral, and Abigail Ferguson, daughter of the wealthy landowner trying to control the island. Who could be behind the threats and abductions, and what is he trying to accomplish? These compelling novels are best read in order, but each can stand alone. This one completes the thrilling series. Don’t miss out on these entertaining reads filled with likeable characters and intriguing plots. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

I have really enjoyed this latest series by Author ChristyBarritt about the Saltwater Cowboys of the Outer Banks. Although this is a series, a reader can enjoy each book as a separate, stand-alone novel. In book #5, Grant Matthews, part of the island's law enforcement team, has long noticed Abigail, daughter of one of the most disliked men on the island. The attraction is mutual but both have to wonder how families and friends would react to them dating. But when Abigail is abductied, Grant risks his own life to save her's, and to figure out who is after her.

Can you imagine waking up, not knowing where you are and not being able to move?! And that is just the first page of this story! Suspense, sterotypes, secrets - oh my! This story follows Abigail Ferguson and Grant Matthews. Abigail has someone after her and Grant tries to keep her safe as they work to discover the identity of this mystery man. Whether you have read the other stories in this series, you will enjoy this book. I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.

I had a BETA Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Christy Barritt has written another great book in this series. This book continues the saga of the islanders wanting to preserve the land for the wild horses against a wealthy family wanting to build a resort and develop the island. The suspense in this series continues to build in this book as well as the relationship between the wealthy daughter and an islander.

Book 5

Driftwood Danger is the 5th in the Saltgrass series. It may be the last, but there might be another one just around the corner. This was one of the best of the series, but I think all the 30 year old singles on the island have now been paired up, even if some of the future partners had to be washed up on the shore. Interesting plots & characters keep the reader turning pages

What's the statute of limitations on revenge?

Grant and Abigail have been making attempts to run into each other for months. It's inevitable that Abigail, when she is kidnapped and tortured, would call Grant for help. All the clues are there, can Grant and Abigail figure out who's behind her current problems, and why, before her assailant decides he's had enough of his fun and kills her?

Highly recommended!

My thoughts (lvh): DRIFTWOOD DANGER is the 5th book in this series but fans will want to read the first four so they don't miss a single exciting moment.

Abigail and Grant are super sweet and both independent. The who-dun-it will keep you guessing until the end. The romance is sweet and there is a good faith message. I would like to see more about the horses but they are present.

So beautiful

This one was my favorite of the series. It touched my heart deeply. I could identify with Abigail. It's as if it was my story being told. I always love Christy Barritt's books, but this one was different. God used it in a way that only He can to reach our hurts and heal them. Thank you for another great book Christy Barritt!

Suspenseful!

From the first page I was on the edge of my seat, and the suspense just went on from there, sprinkled with a sweet love story that crosses social bounds. As always, Ms. Barritt has created realistic characters in a realistic setting within a story that keeps your attention from cover to cover.

From page 1, the story starts out running with suspense and danger. Loved the interaction between the characters, and the support and acceptance the cowboys extend to Abigail, whose family is a great tension on the island. Suspense, action, drama, this book has it all, as well as a HEA ending! I highly recommend this clean suspenseful story by one of my favorite authors!

Driftwood Danger was another enjoyable book to read by Christy Barritt. As all her books are Christian books, and contain no foul language, and can be rated G, I love them. This was easy to read, and moved easy through the story. I would recommend it to anyone that likes mystery along with some romance.

Overall a good plot, parts unrealistic. The photos of the bruises she had endured, which she declined would be the first step of evidence.
A father’s priorities were of his business, there was another side his wife and Abigail didn’t know about. Greed, revenge played a heavy part to destroy a family. Okay for a quick read.

Another great book by Christy.

I have enjoyed all the books I've read by Christy. This one didn't disappoint. The Saltwater Cowboys are at it again, and this time even more is at stake as Grant and Abigail explore their feelings and at the same time, try to keep her from being killed.

The setting for this series is intriguing with its wild horses and cowboy law enforcement officers on a sparsely populated island. Each book of the series contains a stand-alone story with elements of an underlying community issue woven into it. This book appears to be the final one of the series as it finishes off the loose ends, so to speak.
