A Savage Killer Shows No Mercy in this Addictive Thriller by Melinda WoodhallAs a young woman disappears without a trace on a dark backroad in Kentucky, Investigative Reporter Veronica Lee works to uncover the terrifying truth behind a brutal network of online predators.
When Veronica’s troubled past leads the FBI to the remains of a young woman who went missing decades before, she finds herself on the trail of a killer with a chilling connection to her small Florida town.
And as the desperate killer makes his final move, Veronica must find a way to stop her big story from coming to a deadly end.
Written by Melinda Woodhall, author of the addictive Mercy Harbor Thriller series
Veronica Lee needs to find what happened to her half-sister's mother who disappeared many years ago. Suspicion falls on a man .. a serial killer .. who is no longer alive. Her body has never been found. Veronica has two private investigators looking into what was his hometown.
Meanwhile, the FBI is looking into a network of online predators ... in the same hometown.
When the cases start to merge, there are more questions than answers ... someone knows the truth ..and they don't want their secrets exposed. Danger is a lot closer than any of them think.
Being 4th in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone. However, I do recommend starting at the very beginning. The characters are all solidly written ... the crimes are full of twists and turns ... the endings are suspenseful .. and unexpected.
Many thanks to the author / BookSirens for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Although part of a series “Her Silent Spring” can be read on its own so no worries to start here. But be warned once into the story you will be held captive till the very last page. This latest is an attention grabber from start to finish and an excellent continuation of the series.
Veronica Lee is a “She Wolfe” on a hunt and will not give up when human traffickers, predators or killers are connected somehow to someone she knows or come anywhere close to Willow Bay. This latest starts with the discovery of a body in Skylake, the victim is Skylar’s mother who had disappeared a long time ago. Skylar is Veronica’s half-sister daughter of the evil human Donavan Locke.
The plot is tightly written and moves back and forth from Willow Bay Florida to Skylake Kentucky seeking for answers. Veronica is not alone she has her sidekick Hunter to help things move along. Both are invested in finding the truth but this came at a cost....friends got hurt and others died....What makes this read captivating is that I kept trying to outguess who could the real killer be knowing too well that Ms. Woodhall wouldn’t open her cards that easily to her readers . Boy did she do a good job at outwitting me with this one...lol.
I said this before:
This drama covers a lot. It is a very well developed storyline. Smoothly said and packed with excellent characters...I simply love this book and I am looking forward to read more from Ms. Woodhall.

Her Silent Spring is the 4th book of the Veronica Lee series and I am almost nearing the end of reading all of Melinda Woodhall's books as I started with her Mercy Harbor series and then jumped to the spin-off starring Veronica Lee who was a news reporter. It's funny as we see quite a few of the other characters from the Mercy Harbor series but we don't hear of Eden and Leo Steele, though in this book Leo's name does get chucked out as being an amazing lawyer, that you don't want to go head to head with. In Her Silent Spring, we have two storylines and both are follow on's from previous books. The first is the secret identity of El Diablo - the group of criminals that have been trafficking and running drugs and then the identity of Skylar's mother - Summer. As those who have read Book #3 of this series, will remember that Veronica and Skylar's father Donovan Locke worked with El Diablo and was killed at the end of Book #3. This book takes us to Sky Harbor where Skyler's mum Summer and Donovan both grew up. For years, everyone assumed that Summer had just run away and couldn't be lying in the ground murdered. Now the truth has been revealed though, it looks like it has risen other skeletons and some dark secrets that the town had hoped to have kept silent. It looks too that someone in the town is even willing to kill those who may have the conscience to talk. What will happen though when Frankie is targeted by the sheriff and it looks like he may end up back behind bars as a suspect for murder? Can this band of misfits help Nessa - Chief of Police and Special Agent Charlie Day solve the murders on their hands and identify the bodies piling up? Find out in Book #4 of the Veronica Lee Series by Melinda Woodhall. Fans of Kendra Elliott and Melinda Leigh will love this author's work.
Oh my goodness, where do I start with this unputdownable book ? It can be read as a standalone but Melinda Woodhall has created such wonderful characters and written such brilliant twisted plots that I would highly recommend starting at the beginning.
The story starts with a murder in the small town of Sky Lake, how is this small town connected to the distant town of Willow Bay ?
Willow Bay News TV front reporter Veronica Lee has recently discovered a half sister, Skylar, under distressing circumstances, they have different mothers but share a father, the evil drug and human trafficker Donovan Locke.
When the remains of Skylar's mother are discovered in Sky Lake and a young girl comes forward to give vital information to Willow Bay PD her life and the lives of many others are in danger, the evil in Sky Lake and Willow Bay is still festering and the FBI join the hunt.
It is impossible to describe all the twists and turns in this story, who are the good guys and who are hiding behind their public persona. This book contains everything, action , suspense, kidnapping, drug running, human trafficking, police corruption and most of all it is a gripping story. A well deserved five stars.
I received a free copy of this book and I leave a voluntary review.
Melinda Woodhall is a master of creating suspenseful stories and combining dark subjects with hope, love, and real imperfect human connection. The characters are so wonderful and their relationships with each other so complex. The hospital scene was especially sweet. It shows the power of love to keep someone fighting to stay alive through seemingly impossible circumstances. I personally know very well that when you are fighting to survive for someone else you can make it through a lot more than you would otherwise be able to. I also love that Gracie the dog gets to play such a major role in this series. She is a character every bit as important as the people. If you want strong, deeply flawed, very lovable characters, an awesome dog, and plenty of suspense to keep things interesting this is a truly great series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Again, Melinda Woodhall has written an addictive book. These stories, in each of the series, are just so difficult to put down. They are what I call "take with me" books. You never know when you might have 10 or 15 stray minutes to gobble up a little more of the story until you can sit and read for longer periods of time so the book is kept at my fingertips. No end to the action in this one. Just a good old fashioned police procedural tale. Thrilling to the last word. Finish one on Melinda's books and you are looking for the next. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Melinda Woodhall is a master of subterfuge. I have now binge read the first four books of the series in the past four days and it’s clear that this writer has a formula that works. Above all else, she does such a great job in writing the characters that just when you think you’ve figured out the identity of the killer, the whole story twists in a direction you didn’t see coming. at the risk of being redundant, I’m excited to finish the series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really enjoyed this book. Full of excitement, great characters. I didn't read any of the others but this can be read as a stand alone. It will keep you intrigued until the very end!
Another fantastic story from Melinda Woodhall!! The perfect mix of frightening and exciting. There were so many jaw dropping twists that I wasn't sure what was going to happen from one page to the next. But each time I was blown away.
Absolute tripe. This story with names such as “Misty Bradshaw” and “Hunter Hadley” just cannot be taken seriously. The story itself might have some merit but I just can’t get past this. Terrible book and I won’t be reading anything else from this author for a long time - probably never!
Frisky Colt Diner. Mack watched from his Ford SUV as Darla Griggs (waitress) peddled her beach cruiser bicycle down Fullerton to Hidden Fork Rd then Murphy’s Boarding House. I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.
Warning: This book contains descriptive accounts of extremely graphic adult content (racial hatred), violence, or expletive language &/or uncensored sexually explicit material (minor/adult verbal, psychological, emotional, physical & sexual abuse, pornography, kidnapping/prostitution of a human trafficking (slavery) for sexual exploitation) which is only suitable for mature readers. It may be offensive or have potential adverse psychological effects on the reader. If you are especially sensitive to this type of material, it is strongly advised not to read any further. An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written human trafficking (slavery) for sexual exploitation book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters & facts to keep track of. This could also make another great human trafficking (slavery) for sexual exploitation movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an amazingly easy rating of 5 stars.

WOW! This book was really good and the twists and turns in it had me reading into the wee hours of the morning. I had a hard time putting it down! This book could be read as a standalone, but I recommend you read Her Winter of Darkness before this book to fill in the holes this book might create. I even had to go back to the book a few times to refresh my memory on some things.
Even though this book is supposed to be a Veronica Lee story, it seemed a little more like a Skylar Lee story to me, but it didn’t bother me at all. This book is about the Veronica Lee and her half sister, Skylar, and the aftermath of what happened to their father, the whereabouts of Skylar’s mother, and the current connection between Sky Lake, Kentucky and Willow Bay, Florida.
Reading the Veronica Lee series and the Mercy Harbor series has really made me grown even more fond of the characters and the town of Willow Bay. With every book in the series, Melinda does a fantastic job at writing a captivating story filled with action, suspense, betrayal, and a little romance. Her Silent Spring will not disappoint you as it has everything you love about Melinda’s books as well as the dark truths of the dark web and the illegal activities its members are involved such as drug running, human trafficking, and kidnapping. I loved how Melinda was about to integrate PTSD and the use of an ESA (emotional support animal) dog. I feel like this is an important topic that should be discussed more because so many suffer silently and alone. I love Gracie and how she is such an essential character and part of the Channel 10 family.
I cannot wait to see if there will more books in the series and fingers crossed there will be. I feel like there are so many things that have started or are left unfinished. I am so excited to see how Ling Lee does as mayor of Willow Bay, if this is the end of the Syndicate in Willow Bay, what will happen with the Silent Meadows Farm investigation and Special Agent Charlie Day and Special Agent Clint Marlow and so much more.
I recommend this book and the Veronica Lee and Mercy Harbor series. I received a copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my thoughts on the book.

Melinda Woodhall is the author of the new Veronica Lee Thriller series, as well as the page-turning Mercy Harbor Thriller series. In addition to writing romantic thrillers and police procedurals, Melinda also writes women’s contemporary fiction as M.M. Arvin.
“The world had been a different place. Now it was dark and uncertain.”
Veronica is still reeling from finding out her father was alive and dangerous. And she is also trying to process that she has a half-sister. Together, they are trying to piece together Skylar’s history. As they dig further into the past, dark secrets and deadly people come slithering into the present. This could end any chance of a future.
I liked this book. The storyline picked up where the previous book ended, and we were reunited with all the characters we have come to know and love. We are also introduced to a few new faces, as well.
We get a lot of time with Nessa in this book and focus pretty heavily on Skylar and Frankie. The more I learn about Frankie’s past, the more my heart aches for everything he has lost.
The plot thickens in this book as we dive deeper into the syndicate and find out more about who is involved with the trafficking. The plot is fast-paced and holds your attention. There were so many twists and turns, and I’m still slightly reeling.
When we think Willow Bay is safe, something else pops up, and our cast of characters has to scramble to figure out how to save the day.
Dramatic and well written, this series is only heating up!
Wow! Her Silent Spring by Melinda Woodhall grabs you from the very beginning and doesn’t let go. This is the 4th book in the Veronica Lee Thriller series. This book continues right on from book #3 with Veronica trying to help her newly found sister adjust to her new life away from captivity. Veronica is determined to find out if Skylar has any living relatives on her mom’s side. Their serial killer father, Donovan Locke was from the same hometown of Sky Lake so there may be relatives there from his side also. Veronica is still following up on her drug trafficking story in Willow Bay and things are starting to lead back to Skylars hometown. This is a fast-paced, heart pounding thriller that you won’t want to put down. I recommend reading all books in this series in order to be able to get the full benefit of the timeline, although it could be read as a stand alone book, just lacking the background story. I cannot wait to start the next book in the series.
I received a free copy of this ebook from BookSirens and the author. Thank you for allowing me to preview this great book.
This is the 4th book in the series and whilst it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend that you at a minimum start at the beginning of this series. This book completes a story arc that has been running over this series and you’ll be more familiar with the back story of the characters. That said, actually the Mercy Harbour series, where we are first introduced to many of the characters and exists in the same town, is an even better place to start from the beginning to understand all of the characters, their backgrounds and the world building.
I’ve now read all of Melinda Woodhall’s books to date. All of the books are really great suspense police procedurals, with an ensemble cast of well written likeable characters, who solve serious crimes, especially MVP Gracie. I really enjoyed this book and was glad to see resolution with characters and look forward to the next book in the series.
Thank you to the Author, Publisher and BookSirens for the complimentary digital ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing an eARC and providing an honest and unbiased opinion.
Once again Ms. Woodhall has written a winner of a mystery. Characters who have become like old friends after spending time with them through 4 books. Almost non-stop action; plenty of suspense; characters you love to hate; red herrings galore. All of these things combine to make one more great read. I must admit, though, Ms. Woodhall gave me a scare with this book. I thought sure she was showing the beginning symptoms of Leon Uris Syndrome. (If you have ever read any of his books you'll know what I am talking about.) I'm happy to say that it appears Ms. Woodhall is well after all. I hope that this doesn't wind up being the last of this series. I would hate to not be able to spend time in Willow Bay, Fl, with my friends.
I received a review copy from BookSirens at my request and this is my honest opinion. I would like to thank them and Ms. Woodhall for the opportunity to read and review Her Silent Spring.
The fourth instalment in the Veronica Lee series sees the people of Willow Bay and the assorted federal officers associated with the recent investigations dealing with the fallout from the Donovan Locke situation that was detailed in Her Winter of Darkness. As per usual the author manages to keep a number of plot lines running, separate but intertwined, all the time building the suspense and staying just one step ahead of the reader.
Skylar's story is touching and emotional, I loved how Veronica and Hunter were determined to find out what happened to her mother, in order to give her some degree of closure. The author continues to develop her characters, so that the reader becomes more invested in them, each has a part in the story, something to add, they're not merely window dressing.
I received this book as an ARC from the author, in return for providing an honest review, which I am more than happy to do
Her Silent Spring A Veronica Lee Thriller book four is the first book I’ve read. Although well written and a stand alone, I had more difficulty following the many characters by not having read books 1 through 3. I also found myself guessing what some of the characters backstories were. With that being said this is not a reflection on the author’s ability to create a great story but this reviewer’s lacking. The characters are well developed and the plot is skillfully written. Veronica Lee, an investigative reporter in Willow Bay, is involved with the current issues of human and drug trafficking in her town and is searching to identify the people involved. The author takes the reader on a fast paced, nail biting and suspenseful journey filled with abduction and murder while Veronica and law enforcement work to identify the primary players. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book deserves a 4.5. It is a well-written mystery packed with action, puzzles, and surprises. It kept my interest throughout my reading of it. My only problem with reading it was a sense that I would have enjoyed it more if I had started at the beginning of the series. Although I consider the characters to be well-developed, there were times when I felt I was missing their past histories and a few times when I got peripheral characters confused and wondered if they would have been clearer to the reader who began the series at Book 1. In terms of the plot, it’s a winner, well worth the read.
I received this ARC with the understanding that I would be free to write a review offering my unbiased, honest opinion, should I so choose. That is what you have in the above paragraph. Happy reading!
“Her Silent Spring” continues directly from the conclusion of book 3 in the “Veronica Lee” series. With Veronica and her friends continuing in their quest against people traffickers operating in and around the Willow Bay area. The investigation brings home the reality that the people she is investigating are closer to her than she could possibly have ever imagined. In Book 3 of the series, Veronica learnt that she has a half sister, and that the evil Donovan Locke is both girls’ father. Now in a quest to help her sister finds her mother, Veronica and and her investigative friends and colleagues delve deeper into the ugliness of human trafficking. Definitely another unputdownable instalment in this fantastic series - book 5 awaits! Thank you to BookSirens for a copy of this e-book, I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Another addictive Veronica Lee thriller written by Melinda Woodhall. This time Lee's past comes back to haunt her and her sibling as she works to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of another young woman. I love how the author brings in all of the main characters, the chief, the detectives, the reporter and her family and introduces new characters into the storyline. Sometimes, it's hard to remember who's who, especially with the new characters but as the story unfolds, it all makes sense and makes for another page-turner. I must admit that I couldn't wait to return to the book and while it took me a few weeks to finish reading it I was able to get right back into it without a problem. And like all of the other Woodhall books I've read, I enjoyed the ending. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
In the fourth book of the series, Veronica wants to find information about her newly discovered half-sister Skylar’s mom, Summer. She sends off 2 private investigators to look around their father’s hometown. The FBI’s taskforce is continuing to look into online traffickers and a lead takes them to the same hometown. While interviewing people in the town, they discover that this small town does not want to talk to strangers. They stumble upon Summer’s best friend, and things start to look up, when she is murdered before getting any real information. As more information is collected, the teams discover that they are really working on one case. This book is a roller coaster of twists and turns. Expertly written you will not want to put this one down. Thanks to BookSirens for the copy of this book.
Fast paced thriller that included both local and FBI.(Read the cover) It will keep your attention and have you reading into the night. It is part if a series but can be easily read as a stand-alone as she gives "backstory" here and there that will be enough to understand the character or the situation. However, the other books are great so you will want to go read them as well to enhance your understanding of the book and enjoy some great reading. Her characters are realistic and the situations plausible. Read & enjoy!
I was provided an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and was under no obligation to provide a review. The opinions expressed are my own. Thanks to the author, publisher and Book Sirens for the opportunity to read this book.

So, Veronica Lee goes out with a bang ... or rather let's say this author finished this series off in true Melinda Woodhall style.
Loved the fact that this came full circle, and that there was more emotion in this one than what the author has done in the previous books in this series.
Great read, great story, great culmination of a series, great in all ways.
If you have read her other works, this one was subtle in it's differences but enjoyable.
Going to miss Veronica and Ling, Skyler, Hunter and all the others that made this series, and the Hope House series great.
Investigating reporter Veronica Lee opened up a can of worms when she made the small town of Willow Bay aware that human trafficking was happening in their own back yard. The Diablo Syndicate is into drugs, money laundering and murder. As Veronica searches for her half sister's biological mother she begins to realize that the two cases would merge which uncovers more players in the Diablo Syndicate. Veronica Lee thrillers can be read as a standalones but best to read in order. You won't be disappointed. Thank you Booksirens and the author for a digital copy. Read and reviewed voluntarily and the opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
...and the shock waves ripple across decades, states and generations of families. Veronica has uncovered a vipers nest of vile and dangerous predators that have lived undiscovered within their communities for years. Multiple twists will keep you guessing right to the end, there are so many depraved hunters and traffickers in this book....nobody is safe, especially not Veronica. I listened to this on Audible and also have it to read on Kindle Unlimited. I look forward to the rest of the series which is not yet available on Audible, but is available on Kindle Unlimited.
This was a challenging novel about generations of victims, sex trafficking, drugs, and the intersection of good and evil. I found it a bit difficult to keep track of different, but overlapping investigations in multiple locations. I think it all worked out in the end, but I am normally one who thrives on a complex novel and this one frustrated me.
I think I'll try another book by this author any way. The writing was decent and the plots were intriguing, so it may have been me or this book or other factors.

This is book 4 of the Veronica Lee Thriller series Willow Bay’s news reporter Veronica Lee recently discovered, under dreadful circumstances, that she has a half sister called Skylar. Unfortunately they share a father, an evil man named Donavan Locke. How does a murder in Sky Lake connect to Willow Bay? How many lives will be in danger? Veronica will not stop until she uncovers the truth. This story has it all, human trafficking, drug running and police corruption. It’s full of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I was given this arc to review
This is a Veronica Lee mystery and it doesn’t disappoint. Veronica is investigating a young woman’s disappearance and it leads to a complicated network of human trafficking.
While she is trying to solve the case, the network of online predators leads back to her own roots coming all to close to family. Lots of suspense and unanswered questions. This is the first book of the series I’ve had a chance to read and it could easy be a stand alone. Great story!
Thank you to BookSirens for the advanced copy in exchange for my unsolicited comments.
I'm really enjoying this series. This story is a natural follow-up to the third book as the storyline from book 3 needed to be wrapped up so you should read the series in order, or certainly read the 3rd one before this one.
A couple of different investigations intertwine and of course, Veronica, Frankie and the usual gang, are all involved. I find the characters interesting, particularly Frankie, and enjoy the interactions between them all. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
