…i tylko Igarashiemu się nie udaje… Za to wieczorem Igarashi w tajemnicy przed wszystkimi zabiera Kae w pewne miejsce…
Though I reviewed the first book favorably, after 8 books and some really tropey behavior, I am so ready to throw in the towel.
Considering the author was herself an author of Boys-Love manga, I can’t believe there isn’t any sincere queer representation in this book. I am still hoping that one of the four boys who purports to have interest in Kae will actually have interest in one of the other boys. But I won’t hold my breath. I think that will make the difference between a series I will recommend and one I will forget and quickly remove from my book shelves once I’ve read it.
Volume 9 offers a bit of hope, a girl tells Kae that she can’t keep dragging all those boys around, and so she tries to make a decision, but now it seems they don’t mind! And supposedly the next volume will pick things up… why are manga like this???
I'm getting really frustrated with the plot development, it constantly stagnates. It almost progressed and then the characters proclaimed they were happy with the way things were! Apparently the next one will have 'change' and 'things will pick up' but I truly wonder if they will and if the end will have been worth the wait. There could have been a lot of slow and steady development between the characters. Maybe I need to be a connoisseur of the genre to see them, then again, maybe this is just the way the genre is and there is no actual character development.
I also love the part where Shinomiya's being stalked and he takes Thor over to Mutsumi's house and of course Thor and Mutsumi's dog and cat all love each other--that's the cutest picture in this whole book!
But yeah, this series is still ridiculous and dumb and just when you think things are about to get all mushy and/or angsty, Serinuma does what she does best--freak out over anime! :)
This book is exactly what I needed today. I really like the struggle that the main character is going though and I wish I had the kind of struggles that she has. Life would be so much easier then. They did try to through me off my ship but I held on and really hope that my fav character is the one who gets closest go the main character.
This volume was so hilarious!!!! I kid you not, it had me laughing from page ONE! And I am not exaggerating when I say this volume literally had me HOWLING (in the sense of screams and also laughter. Sometimes simultaneously, sometimes independently). I was really glad that my parents were in the basement and my brother was in the shower so I could be as obnoxiously loud as I wanted without them calling the police for bloody murder. It was a very, very fun time.
The howls were not only brought upon by this volume being funny, but also by it being quite juicy. Junko comes up with such juicy and hilarious scenarios that always catch me off guard in the best way possible. This is a series you can never get bored with.
The chapters in this series are released monthly in Japan, therefore they're longer so they put only four chapters in each volume. This lets the volumes be published in shorter intervals that can keep up with the volumes of weekly published series. These volumes only have around 150 pages per book (as compared to 195-205 being the usual page count for weekly series' volumes) but it actually didn't really feel like it.
It didn't feel really small or anything, and didn't take me less time to read than any other manga. Time flew by in a flash, and I couldn't believe how fast time had passed by the time I had finished reading. That said, while I was reading the pace was really great and it felt like it lasted the perfect length of time.
This is a fantastic series that I would STRONGLY recommend. Pick either the anime or the manga, they're the same, just go with your preferred medium. If you watch the anime make sure to read my series review after you've finished it, because I let you know what chapter the anime leaves off so you can continue with this great series!

Of course Mutsumi saves the day! Although there are a bit too many close moments between Igarashi and Kae, I wonder if they'll end up together. But no! I must read them all to know! :P
Whew, I've finally gotten to a point in this manga where I hadn't already read everything on Crunchyroll (in other words, what I read in this volume was all new to me)! While the first few volumes of Kiss Him, Not Me! had me in stitches even when I was reading for the second time, the story has by now gotten somewhat deeper and I feel concern about how things will pan out for everyone. Not concern in a bad this-manga-is-going-downhill way, but true otaku-like concern for each of the characters, wishing that everything will turn out well for everyone (and especially hoping that Kae-chan will fall for Mutsumi-senpai!!). But that's not to say the series' signature humor is gone; it's still there and well-placed so that no matter how serious things seem to get, it still feels like I'm reading the same manga.
I'm just as impressed and inspired as ever by the beautiful artwork of Kiss Him, Not Me!--each volume is gorgeous. There are times when I'm so struck by the linework or use of screentone that I have to stop reading so I can admire the image and, as a visual artist, learn from it. Furthermore, as a fellow fujoshi otaku, I still strongly feel a sense of camaraderie not only for Kae-chan but for Junko-sensei, who has clearly been creating this story from personal experience as a real-life otaku. Reading a manga that truly understands MY point-of-view, my passions and pastimes--as odd as they may seem to others--is heartening and invigorating!!
(P.S. I was so excited when I saw that Kae-chan and I share a love for Sanji from One Piece o(≧∇≦o)
Tres besos. Primer beso, Nishina Shima. Segundo beso, Nanashima Nozomu. Tercer beso, Igarashi Yuusuke.
This volume was so chaotic lol. Not a single moment to breatheeeee. I'm excited to see what this new dude brings to the mix.
Side note: I love Serinuma, but all of their love for her seems unbelievable. Like why are they so persistent on pursuing her?? Mutsumi I understand. He's always cared for her and he just realized he liked her because the guys brought it to his attention. Then there's Shima who admired her for a while and they have similar interests so there's a reason. But like the other three are like "she's pretty and she's nice and caring. guess i'm in love!" Idk. Y'all can just be friends or whatever. I'm definitely reading too much into it lol. It's all just a big old joke and not meant to be taken seriously, but like I was actually kind of hoping we were going to go down this other love interest route with Igarashi and that would of been interesting. But Serinuma is just too cool. She's gotta steal the show with her random ass bravery lol.
“What is... real love?" 'You're starting from there?! W...well... you can't help thinking about the person constantly... You realize your eyes always go to that person... you get extremely happy or sad...' "...By those standards, I feel real love for none of them." 'HUH?! WHAT?! YOU MUST'VE HAD A MOMENT WHERE YOUR HEART SKIPPED A BEAT!!' "Gasp!! I-In that case, there is someone!!" 'All right! That's it! So who is it?!' "All of them. ❤”
I love Kae, she's so ridiculous and funny that I just can't help it! After the past couple of volumes being only 'alright', it's nice to have one where I was laughing constantly, and was on the edge of my seat during certain scenes. I've also noticed that, the more I read of this series, the more I want to see Mutsumi win Kae's heart, which definitely wasn't the way I felt in the beginning....
The one where it's Kae's birthday, and everyone works their butts off in order to get her the perfect birthday present. And then an old crush of Igarashi's shows up and tries to make Kae finally take some action. Kae approaches the problem with her typical verve.
This was fun, but not as much so as some of the earlier volumes. The romance aspect is starting to feel much too drawn out, which is a frequent problem with shoujo manga. I still enjoyed it a lot, but that's because there's a good bit of wish fulfillment to me reading these, so I'm very biased.
That guy stalking Shinomiya was an incredibly weird and eerie chapter for me. Thankfully that ended on a positive(?) note and we got to see Shinomiya’s cool pet iguana: Thor. I like that we also see just how strongly Igarashi-kin cares for Kae-chan with his birthday gifts to her; as well as seeing his feelings stay constant despite the brief arrival of a past crush of his. Also, my feelings may have wavered briefly at one point but Mutsumi-senpai is the only one who should actually end up with Kae-chan.
I don't like this.

I really enjoyed this! But maybe because I'd been out of the series for a bit, it took me most of the volume to really get into it. I was hoping the "cool beauty" might stick around for a bit and shake things up, because Igarashi is my dude and I'm rooting for him to find love even if it's not Serinuma. That being said, the whole arc was a lot of fun.
Not gonna lie, the birthday one was ridiculous and kind of dumb. Aside from that, it was an enjoyable volume. I like that everyone is okay with Serinuma going at her own pace, and I love her so much as a character. I'm way more interested in her going around doing otaku things with the gang than in them constantly fighting over her.
I thought this one was one of the cuter volumes of the series. I really enjoyed the video game section and the focus on two of the boys. I really look forward to see who the new guy is and who she picks in the end!
Even with Asuma winning the date- he is not forcing her into anything!! He better be her match at the end because the entire series has hinted at it and even how he’s drawn shows it!! This volume is for sure in my top 3- love how it’s getting serious now. 5 more volumes left!!

I think this one was the most interesting from a back story stand point. I do still hope that the history club guy is the one chosen but the soccer player has been adding depth that makes me like him.
