Behind every good man...is the love of an even better woman. Those were just pretty words before I met Claire Montgomery. Before my fairy queen burst into my life, I didn’t recognize the bastard in my morning mirror - but her love has given me the strength to face the imposter, even embrace him. With Claire at my side, I’m the king I always wanted to be, the Killian Stone I always dreamed of becoming.
Which means for once, I want the mask guarding my secret to stay right where it is.
If you want the grown-up fairy tale... learn to love the dark side.
Profound sentiment. Wish I could get on board with it but the prince in pinstripes has other ideas. Life has been a dream since Killian burst into the ball offering the perfect fit - his heart and mine.
But the treasures he bestows have become his armor, hiding the man I yearn to know.
I refuse to open his little velvet box until he opens himself, letting me see even the dark hallways of his soul...
Fate has always bowed to my bidding.
I should have known it was just picking its time to exact the best revenge, to reveal the secrets that will destroy everything. Without my disguise, am I still the man Claire fell in love with...or another penniless prince vying for an unattainable dream?
Mistress of his ruin?
He always told me to be careful what I wish for. By demanding his truth, have I not only demolished the dream we had...but the man I’ve loved more than any other?

More Killian Stone? HELL YEAH! This man is the epitome of a sexy ALPHA male. Strong, confident, sensual, protective. I mean the list goes on and on and on. Not only is this man alluring, seductive, and intense, but he is harboring a secret. A secret that could destroy everything. And ladies...you know how we all love our men damaged and holding back secrets. Mr. Stone is NO EXCEPTION! You will want to embrace him, soothe him, and make it all go away for him, and you will probably want to smack him upside the head a little bit because of some decisions that he makes, but all in all, he will steal your heart and run away with it, leaving you shocked, emotional, and wanting.
Angel Payne and Victoria Blue, together they are a force to be reckoned with. With writing so sophisticated and poetic, you can't help but to get sucked in by the magic of their storytelling. References to fairy tales throughout this great story, had me grinning from ear to ear. At times I felt I was watching a crazy, rich version of the Jerry Springer show, and that had me in stitches for sure.
NO MORE MASQUERADE is a beautiful, enchanting love story about a man whose lies are destroying him and has the potential to destroy everything he holds dear. It is a story about a woman, so in love, so incredibly and profoundly in love, that she will stand by her man no matter what. She knows he has his secrets, and she so desperately wants to have all of him. But as long as these secrets are between them, even though he is only a breath away, they might as well be miles apart. The part of himself that he believed to be dead and gone, comes back with such force that he has no choice but to run away. He is no good to anyone now, but he can run all he wants. Love knows no bounds, and the second half of his soul, of his beating heart will never give up on him. Claire Montgomery has found her prince charming and she will stop at nothing to get him back and heal his soul, so they can finally have their Happily Ever After.
Bravo ladies and thank you for feeding our addiction to incredible romances. Thank you for giving us an incredibly passionate, intense, and emotional love story that shredded and warmed my heart.
What can I say about No More Masquerade? Well, it’s the second book in the Secrets of Stone Series and in my humble opinion, it’s better than the first. I pretty much devoured this book within 24 hours. I haven’t done that in a long time.
Killian goes through a lifetime of pain in a very short period of time. He loses so much and doesn’t know where to turn. Even the love of his life can’t help his downward spiral. That says a lot, for Killian Stone is a strong, powerful man used to doing and getting things his way. The secret he’s kept for most of his life is no longer a secret.
In his mind, the secret will push Claire away. But he soon realizes that only he can do that and he does. However, the woman that she is and the love she has for him is stronger than stone itself.
Angel Payne and Victoria Blue have written a story so in-depth that it will have you running a gamut of emotions: anger, happiness, disappointment, hatred, and oh did I mention anger. There were times I wanted to ring Killian’s neck and times I wanted to hang his brother up by his toes and take a stick to his butt. Can’t tell any more for I’d give away too much.
Very well done ladies. I look forward to the next Secrets of Stone book.
This book is part of a series. I recommend reading book 1 first.
WOW! I did not think I could love Killian or Claire any more than I already did. , I have to say I definitely do. Angel Payne and Victoria Blue did a great job. This book had so much going on. The Characters in this book are so complex and well developed. It is refreshing to see love winning and being worth the fight.
Killian Stone has his world shattered in No More Masquerade. It was truly heartbreaking to see his world crumbling around him. He really thought he had come to terms with his arrangement, but when all of that is exposed he quickly realizes how untrue that is. He really goes into a dark place and cannot see the light and what is in front of him. He has to work through the pain to see the truth of his worth. It takes a lot of work, heartbreak, and self realization, but he finally finds his new self.
Claire Montgomery also is challenged time and time again. Can she get through to Killian before it is too late for them? Claire is so strong and knows what she wants. Her love is relentless and she will do anything to show him a last name means nothing that she wants HIM. She finds an unexpected friend in Margaux. This is a true Cinderella story you have to read to believe. There are so many trials and tribulations, but love prevails.
Margaux also faces some new realizations and shocking life altering events in this book. Margaux was not initially a character that was liked, but she grows on you. She comes through for Claire and Killian at their lowest points. I look forward to the next few books to see her grow as a person and maybe find her own happily ever after.
This is book #2 of the Secrets of Stone Series and has to be read in order.
This was better than the first book... But there was still way too much Sex, Drama and overall Stupidity and Immaturity here.
The MCs didn't talk about things; didn't decide things together; didn't really support each other; or go through hard/bad times united, together...
Killian was an overbearing jerk here! I hated that he decided things for Claire, in her place, without even talking to her first! It drove me Crazy MAD!
Again, the relationship between the MCs felt like just Absolute Lust to me!
It felt wrong to me that Killian said to be so much in love with Claire, but still didn't tell her about his secret, even after 8 months of a serious relationship with her (and after she had spilled her own dark secrets to him!)... I understand that he was afraid, but being in a relationship requires trust; and it felt so unfair to me the way Claire ended up finding out about the secret.
The only positive point in this book was that there's actually something happening here (contrary to most of the 1st book). There's new developments to the 'Secrets of Stone' and I really didn't see one of them coming.
(And I did like 1 character here.)
But, I still think that what happens in this book, Plot wise, should have been added in the 1st book. These 2 books could very well be 1 single book, if there wasn't 1.345.678 Hot scenes in these books... Cut a little bit of the Drama too, and 350 pages would probably suffice to tell these characters' story, in 1 book.
This Series continues with book #3 - No Perfect Princess - about Margaux. But, I don't think I'll ever be reading it (unless I eventually need it for a challenge, maybe).
Well, let’s start by saying, these two amazing authors cannot write a bad book and this book just proves that.
No More Masquerade is Book 2 in the Secrets Of Stone series by Angel Payne and Victoria Blue. I recommend starting with book 1 to get a better grip on what’s going on through this book/series and what’s going on with this couple. After reading book 1 in this series I knew I needed me some more Killian!
Book 2 Angel and Victoria deliver us an emotional, heart wrenching, hot as hell plot, full of passion, drama, and heartbreak.
Killian Stone? A man alone, and lost... he’s no longer the powerful CEO we know him as, His brother Trey a nasty piece of work comes into the picture and rips apart this mask Killian had in place, and the world he thought he knew to be true comes falling down hard around him. After losing his biological father and his adoptive father, his life is in ruins and his brother Trey isn’t making it any easier for him. He becomes a shell of the man he once was.
Claire Montgomery? She needs to make a decision whether she’s going to fight for Killian and get him back or walk away completely, and it’s one of the hardest things she’ll have to do,
These two together are intense and all-consuming and if I’m honest, probably one of my all-time favorite book couples. Not only is this book full of heartbreak, but it’s got a fairytale feeling to it, plus add in a whole lot of twists and turns along the way and you are left with a love story so consuming that you spend days thinking about the whole plot after finishing the book.
I highly recommend this series. I was a little late when I started reading these books but boy am I glad I’ve started!
OH Killian & Claire! This is a must read continuation of No Prince Charming. Angel & Victoria bring you into the Stone family world in such an inescapable manner, you can't stop reading and don't want to finish the book either.
Hot emotional mess and you'll love every moment even when you're so angry at some characters decisions you wish you could strangle them yourself!
NO MORE RUNNING!!! Words said to Claire but meant for Killian. Reading this book had me from rage to to tears so many times I lost count. Claire was agonizing and Killian was a rogue(not the word I want to use). But I loved it. Heart wrenching and all.
Wow, what an emotional read! Book 2 in the Secrets of Stone series was beautifully crafted and had an interesting plot. I loved the book and can't wait to dig into the rest of the series. On a side note, who loves mushrooms but not bacon? ;)
This book had a couple surprises that I wasn’t expecting. I thought our characters were all set for a HEA but then tragedy strikes and everything changed.
This book was provided by the author's for an honest review. Previously, on No Prince Charming: Claire Montgomery and Killian Stone go off into the sunset and live happily ever after...
No More Masquerade picks up where the first book, No Prince Charming, leaves off. Claire and Killian are in a whirlwind of romance, lust and love and are blinded by the whole world around them. They both found a way to make a long distance relationship work, with her in San Diego and him in Chicago. The love birds can not get their fill of each other, literally. Flying back and forth, only allowing a couple of days here and there together finally takes it toll on them both. As a surprise, Killian wisks Claire off to Rome for a long-awaited vacation where Claire thinks she will finally have the opportunity to get Killian to let his guard down and let her in on his deep, dark secret.
At first, things are going very well for the couple while in Rome, but before they leap to Paris, Claire decides to start nudging Killian about his secret. Killian, already resolved about that matter, digs in his heels and will not open up to Claire. Killian has played the scenario in his head too many times to count, only to come to the same conclusion that it is not fair to ask Claire to bear his secret. Claire, on the other hand, has confessed her love to Killian and has told him that anything he tells her will not change how she feels about him. As the two go in this Merry-Go-Round, tension and tempers get hotter until they are into full blown fight mode, in Paris no less!
To add the icing to this shit cake, Killian receives a call from his big brother, Trey Stone, who is suppose to be ON the wagon, about a big deal he landed with a company SGC has been trying to get for years! But on that same note, Trey is calling drunk.... from a bar... OH NO! Killian realizes this and tries to diplomatically tell Trey congrats but to chill with the celebratory drinks and women, and call it a night. Trey immediately takes the defensive and blurts out profanities and threats before hanging up on Killian. You little fucker! After all the things Killian has done for Trey, love him, help him, pick him up when he fell, and this is how he repays him! Then sooner than later Killian receives a call from Andrea, the evil step-mother of Claire's who owns the PR Firm on retainer for SGC, that Trey has been arrested and is facing serious charges! Mind you, they are still in Paris people! OK, they are fighting and have not had the nasty naked fun time, but still, can't people leave them be!
While Killian is still beyond pissed, and Claire butt hurt, they have take a conference call from Andrea and the team, to gather and assess the damage and to go about the clean up. Periodically interrupting to grab Killian's attention is none other than the skank, Margaux. Ah yes, our little love to hate evil step-sister is present and accounted for. Continuing the strategizing, Margaux gets in one last blow before the call is ended that tips Claire over to explosive! As Andrea is saying, "We got this. We won't let you down, Mr. Stone..," Margaux chimes in loud enough for everyone to hear in the background, "Lets go little people. Some of us have to work around here. We aren't all sleeping with the client." Let me just say what I think about Margaux. When I finished reading that paragraph and reflected on all that Margaux has done in the past, this is EXACTLY what I was thinking: I wish I had super powers and could go all Carrie on her ass! Better yet, Drew Barrymore in Fire Starter and light her up and watch her burn like the witch that she is! But only to get pissed all over again because her crumpling ash ruined my favorite shoes! A good mani/pedi will make me feel better.
Once Killian and Claire return to Chicago to deal with the Trey aftermath, they now have to face Killian's secret whether they like it or not because circumstances bring it right to their door as soon as they exit the private jet. Just when I thought this was the plot of the story, the book takes me on a wild ride of As The World Turns with all the back stabbing, and shocking revelations upon Killian's return from Paris. It's an OMG, WTF page turner that will blow your mind! I loved every minute of it!
No More Masquerade by the magically talented duo of Angel Payne and Victoria Blue is the perfect second part to No Prince Charming! The previous book ended with HEA but this one…holy wow. If the first book took you through an emotional rollercoaster, strap in tight. No More Masquerade will take you on a much wilder ride! Thanks to Totally Bound, I got an early read of this revised re-release! First of all, I absolutely love Claire Montgomery. She impressed me in the last book. She blew my ever-loving mind in this one. I must say that she is the woman I wish I could be. She is persistent, genuine, and steadfast in her love. With her status as the girlfriend of the Enigma of Magnificent Mile, she found herself in the public eye a lot more than she wanted, yet she handled it with poise, grace, and showed her beautiful heart. Amazing. Killian, I loved how much he needed Claire. As practical he was, his nickname for her brought such beautifully whimsical aspect to his personality. He is definitely an alpha male. I am a sucker for alpha males. However, I will admit that there were parts in this book that I wanted to knock him out, teach him some things, then knock him again. Without giving too much away, I will say that there is one part towards the middle that made my chest ache. I swear that I damn near shouted, “Oh hell no. No, he didn’t! Killian, I want to smack you so hard right now.” After one specific scene that was selfish and cruel, I wanted to knock some sense into Killian. This scene and the one right after it depressed me so badly that once the song “Blue Christmas” played on from my playlist, I started crying! I was doing so well in keeping the tears in check and this happened. As noted in my review for the previous book, there is one person that I absolutely hated. It just figures that Angel and Victoria would turn her into someone that I could like. Note that I said, “could like”. They did show a much softer and selfless side in here. I have hopes that I will like her, but considering the writers, I know that I will. Angel and Victoria, thank you for another amazing book! Thank you for taking my heart, twisting it up, wringing it out and filling it with love again. I can’t wait for the next book!
I received this book from the authors for an honest opinion.
Holy SHIT BALLS BATMAN! This book was so awesome. Killian and Claire go throught a ton a stuff and have to deal with a lot and I mean A LOT OF DRAMA. I gotta admit I really enjoyed this book much more then the other book. I think maybe because Killian wasnt running from Claire and was finally going to just BE Killian Stone and forget/bury Killian Klarke. We were seeing him finally RELAX and OPEN up to Claire his Fairy Queen. (Her statement to him in the begining about how she quit running so he nerds to quit hiding was perfectly played!!) However, Claire being Claire knew something wasnt 100% on the up and up with him. When the two go away for a European vacation, everything starts to fall apart between them and then the family secrets start to fall outta the closets!!
They have to come home to the family home being half destroyed and Killian's "Dads" in the hospital. When Killian finally admits his truths to Claire then Trey starts his drama again....GRRRRRR. On top of alllllll this stiff, Daddy Stone decides to drop yet another bombshell....I am telling you the begining of this book is ACTION PACKED and before I knew it 50% was done.
The 2nd part of the book was were my tear ducts got a work out. Killian and Claire are apart and we are all miserable. WE want these two to be together but Killian is being an epic idiot and then Claire is and then .......get my drift!! Yes, there was a scene on the boat that Killian ALMOST lost his family jewels from how he treated Claire. I will say that Mary Stone (who you will meet this novel) was a character I fell in love for. Hearing her story and seeing her confusion but seeing her smack Killian upside the head was priceless!!
The endin ofg the story was amazing and I am hoping that there will be more to this story because there are some avenues that still can be explored!! Like where is Killians mommy? Whats up wtih Trey? and Michael and Mary ??????
I received an Arc of this book for an honest review.
Meet Killian Stone and Claire Montgomery in the book that follows 'No Prince Charming'. From where book one left off i was fascinated to find out if Killian finally told his secret to Claire. Claire and Killian are having a long distance relationship,as Claire works in San Diego and Killian works in Chicago. Although they miss each other terribly whilst apart they are making the long distance relationship work! There's lots of hot and steamy scenes from this passionate couple! Its all going to plan until a tragedy happens, and Killian is forced by his brother to reveal his secret. At this point I just wanted to scratch his brother Trey's eyes out and then smash his and Killians heads together! I was so frustrated by the silly men!
Poor Claire ends up alone and heartbroken, I really felt bad for the poor woman. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone so I won't go into any further detail! All I can say is that Claire has the heart of a saint!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story even though it riled me up no end! A highly recommended read that has more twists, turns and steam than the first book. I personally enjoyed this book even more than the first! The passion and love the two main characters have for each other is incredible! I just can't get enough of Killian and Claire, hopefully we'll see more of them soon!
This is the follow-up to No Prince Charming. Killian Stone is sexy, strong, stubborn and a protective ALPHA male with a secret that is destroying him, leaving him mentally damaged and lacking in trust. He feels this secret will destroy his relationship with Claire Montgomery, so he tries to push her away. She knows he has secrets and refused to except his reasons for pushing her away, she desperately loves him and will stand by him no matter what the secret is her only request is TRUTH!! Can their romance with all the chemistry they share survive the truth?? This book is a great love story, it's well written with lots of twists and turns!!! It's a book that draws out all of your emotions, Happiness, Sadness and lots of ANGER and then more ANGER!!!!I yelled at my kindle, it didn't help!!! The plot of this story draws you in and makes it hard to put the book down!!! Leaves you so wanting more and as you read you're hoping for the HEA!! Trey Stone needs to be smacked up side the head or given hugs to let him know he is loved, he's the evil brother but I want him to be good!!! Angel Payne and Victoria Blue write wonderful books together!!!! I beta read this book and LOVED it!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! GREAT ROMANCE!!!!
No More Masquerade is the follow up to No Prince Charming. From the first book I fell into the story of Killian & Claire you can't help it, with a powerful secretive character like Killian Stone the book draws you in. I recommend that you read No Prince Charming first to really understand these two characters and what they face together.
With the first book, there are secrets that are exposed of both Killian and Claire. I was thinking that the second book might be smooth sailing for this couple but I was so wrong.
No More Masquerade is true to it's title, not only do Killian's past that he's been hiding from the world come out, there is also a bombshell that is dropped one I was completely shocked over, and couldn't put the book down, I had to find out what was in the next chapter.
There are moments in this book that I wanted to throttle Killian, because he falls of the deep end and your not sure if even Claire can pull him out of it. Claire Montgomery is an amazing character, strong and deeply in love with Killian. This book is an emotional ride but a good one. It's full of passion, heartache, drama and written in a way that keeps you on the edge.
Killian and Claire are the perfect fairytale couple. He is the all-powerful CEO who looks like a walking GQ dream. She is the brain to help stop the ogres from tearing down his castle. Trey is the evil sibling set on destroying their dream. When tragedy strikes the Stone family and Killian more than most, Trey, the hapless screw-up, now sees it as the opportunity to hammer in the nail he has been holding over Killian for so long. The mask is off, the truth is out, and the shock and awe are just beginning.
When you believe that love can withstand anything but find out it does not even hold water, dreams are shattered, hopes are buried and your heart has to decide how much pain it can hold.
Claire has two choices, move on without the love of her life or wage a war on him to keep him. So many pitfalls in this book you will need a grappling hook and some good combat boots to wade through. But keep on the trail that will lead to so many shocks and surprises along with so many sweet and hot moments. You may even cry a bit at the end. along with so many sweet and hot moments. You may even cry a bit at the end.
This book makes you to Claire and Killian even more Angel and Victoria are brilliant. In this book they are complex and well developed there are so many things going on this book.
Killian and Claire are a world wind romance there is lust and love they are blind to the world around them. They have a long distance romance her being in San Diego and him in Chicago. There is only one thing a tragedy happens, and Killian is forced by his brother to reveal his secret. Killian’s story is heartbreaking as his world starts to crumble around him.
Claire in this story is challenged can she get through to Killian before it is the end of them? Or will things end before she can? She wants nothing but him this story is a true modern Cinderella story it is a must read.
Margaux in this story also faces some new realizations and shocking life altering events. Margaux is a not well liked character when this book starts. She slowly grows on you as the story unfolds. She is there through both Killian’s and Claire’s low points. This is a must read series can’t wait to read the next one.
This book deserves so much more than a 5***** rating and if I could I would give it more. The story picks up where Book 1, No Prince Charming, left off. Once again we are taken on a roller coaster ride with Killian and Claire. A fire at Keystone Estate will change the lives of many people. An announcement, on his death bed, by JosIah Stone will bring even more changes. Killian's brother Trey will also bring v about change. Each incident leads to the book being a whole lot grittier than the first. Once again there are a lot of hot steamy scenes between Killian and Claire - but these only add to the magic of the story. Angel Payne and Victoria Blue have again excelled with this story. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
First I have to say this book had me on the tops of my toys the whole time. Not many book get my attention, but Holy S***, so much happens!!! The book leaves of at Claire and Killian. Killian’s big secret came out in a panic, so many lives change and regret. The two have so much chemistry, so many emotions and *fans self* hot love scenes. Your emotions are all over the place, one minutes, happy, sad, then back to happy. Killian is your typical Alpha man that just makes you swoon of his persona. New flews!!! You will want to throw your ereader or book during this story, then there are times you want to lick it….sorry had to go there. You learn a lot about Trey, his brother and you will not like him at all.
This series is great and cannot wait for what is next!!!
WOW. This book. Part of me doesn't have words. Well ladies you know we all love the damaged man. The one we want to soothe and take all his problems away. Mr. Stone is all that and more. I really enjoyed this book. DRAMA is all over this read. So much happens so fast. You will have the book read before you know it. Of course our lovely characters do some things that make us want to throw the book, but that's the drama. :)
I love the ending. With all the action and drama, I couldn't put the book down. Claire is a strong character with an undying love. Killian is the self torturing man we all swoon for, but he only has eyes and heart for Claire. Its a great read that all will love.
What a rollercoaster. This book takes you through every emotion more than once. Killian and Claire have this connection that I wish I could find. But during this story Killian truly loses who he is and almost destroys Claire in the process of finding himself. I absolutely love Killian but boy did I truly hate him during parts of this story that I wanted to throw my phone and ring his neck. But ultimately he realizes Claire is who he needs to be who he truly is. Claire is one of my favorite leading ladies. She is an independent, hard-working, take no prisoners type of woman. Not just with work but with her love. She is my soul sister. Thank you ladies for an amazing story!!
This is a fantastic story by these two authors. This is the second book in this series and what an awesome book it is.
Killian Stone is a powerful, strong alpha male. Claire is a great character. The chemistry between these two is so hot. This book is non stop action and drama. I was literally glued to this book from start to finish. The twists and turns just kept coming and had me gripped. The secondary characters are brilliant but Killian and Claire are awesome.
Absolutely loved this book. I can't recommend it highly enough. Loved it.
Oh my goodness this book was full of so much emotion. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. I'll admit I did ugly girl cry at the end because I was so happy for Claire and Killian. My heart did break for Killian in this story. After all these years he felt betrayed by the one person he thought he called his brother. He felt like he had no one to turn to. He felt he needed to shut out everyone, but in the end he found his way back. I'm really sad that Killian and Claire's story is over. I wish it didn't have to end.
This sequel was not what I expected at all, but I still enjoyed it immensely. To my utter shock I'm now looking forward to Margoux's book, even though I completely hated her at the beginning. Talk about character growth. :)
I highly recommend this series to all romance fans.
One the worst books I've ever read! The authors totally violated me! Everyone knows what that means! I call BS for this revolting drivel!
I really liked book one, but the authors perpetrated a myth that woman will grovel to reconnect with the love of their life! Unfortunately Killian verbally and emotionally abuses Claire who he claims to love, but reject's her mercilessly! The misogynistic authors disrespect their readers with the whole devolution of Killian because he's not born a Stone! A revolting insult to women and fan's! I will never read another book by these two author's who think there audience is stupid! Killian is the CEO of Stone Enterprises and has been for years! The authors want us to believe that Josiah Stone has no will, no adoption papes and no protections in place for his heir apparent! He even has ba brillant lawyer who would have anticipated any loopholes in the Stone family legacy! Then we are treated to a total rejection of his supposed lifelong love! Yes, he become self deprecaticating, self loathing and derelect! Yes, I cried when Claire and the douchebag met after 4 months of bertrayal, only to have sweet Claire violated again by rejection! However, when the pathetic excuse for a love interest realizes his company is rudderless, then he is quick to respond to a need to protect the interests of the company he has invested his life into! And only then does he want the woman "of his dreams" back again! And insult to injury, she grovels back to him...... are you kidding! You insult women everywhere, your faithful readers! I will never read another novel by these disrespectful writers! Since I live in San Diego, I believe the authors may have visited here but never lived in San Diego! Torrey Pines beach? Temeculate has some fantastic red wines, but Chardonnay varietal does not grow well in Southern California! I have ehjoyed Chardonnay in France, Germany, Italy and similar whites in Austria and Switzerland! But never in Temecula! All my children were born in Mercy Hospital, named for the religious order of nuns who owned the hospital! In my experience a nun would have been there to help Killian, in addition to a caring nurse! I digress in my rant! What a disgraceful and disrespectful duet book 2 novel! The writers should be ashamed! I am not some troll deliberately trying to sabotage this series! I never give one star reviews, but this sequel was revolting! Readers have different tastes, but it's hard to believe any reader could embrace this BS! Read at you own peril! Amen!
I was really excited to dive right back into this series since the ending of book one gave us enough to be happy and have the ‘feels’ but on the same note, gave us just enough to know that the dam was about to break and everyone would have to deal with the fall out.
There’s SO much that happens in this second book that it’s really hard to keep up with things. Everyone’s identity that you thought you knew isn’t the case – every secret possible will be dug up and relationships are tested beyond belief.
We start off this story with Killian and Claire really making an effort to be together – splitting time between Chicago and San Diego because of their respective jobs. It’s been months of back and forth and it’s taking a toll. We know that things will have to change, it’s just a question now of what the impetus will be for that.
Enter Killian’s money and romance and an extended vacation in Europe for Claire’s birthday. Seems like the perfect trip for a number of reasons. Quality time, a chance for Claire to get the answers that she needs from Kil and a chance for them to take their relationship to the next level. Things don’t go as planned when there’s stress between them because of Killian’s internal fears and then the worst happens – a fire at Keystone manner, leaving two men dying, and the story changed forever.
Killian’s real father is the first to pass and all the secrets that he was fighting to hide from Claire come out. Then Josiah Stone passes, and in his last moments, he reveals that Margaux isn’t who she says/thinks she is. This makes for world war 3 and well, more families and relationships torn apart.
The story goes way way downhill from there because everything Killian worked for is gone, Trey goes to the media with all their family secrets, Claire is pushed away and there’s no happiness to be found anywhere.
I’ll admit that while these bits of the story were exciting, there were many many bits that dragged for me and i had to trudge through in order to get to the point where i hoped things would turn around. It takes a lot of misery, some well placed pep talks and a homeless man to make things turn a corner, but where we end this second installment is a place that really isn’t close to where we began. Business is failing, relationships are still unstable and no one really knows who they can consider family and loyal. I honestly can’t wait to see where book three takes us, i just hope that it doesn’t have the same lull this one did which almost forced me to pause reading.
DNF - 70%. To much abusive behavior from the H for me. Note - bumped to 2 stars because I thought that the storyline was good as was the writing.
1.5 Stars for me!
My rating range of this story... 1 - 2.5 Stars If significant, why? Horrible H. The writing is good but soap operas have less drama. Drama lovers will love the story!
Main Character Ratings... H = 1/10 h = 6/10
Narrator Rating(s) M = 9/10 F = 5/10 If below 5/10,why? The female narrator had a good voice but was difficult to hear. I had to adjust the volume each time the narrator would change.
Was cheating involved? Not in the 1st 70% Any major triggers to be aware of? No
Angst Level? P L E A S E S T O P! 😱 Light, Moderate, Heavy or Please Stop 3 Stars for me!
Internal Monolog? P L E A S E S T O P! 😱 Light, Moderate, Heavy or Please Stop
Scenes with heat... YES What point does it start? 10% How much of the story? 15% Anything beyond M/F? Not sure If yes, explained
Heat Rating... 7/10 Clean or Fade to Black - 1 or 2 Normal to Descriptive 3-5 Detailed Descriptive Sex - 6-7 Um, Wow, Beyond Descriptive Sex - 8 or above
Was there so much sex or unrealistic sex that you rolled your eyes and/or skipped forward? No
The back story... Continuation from the first story.
The Romance... None. Just abusive behavior by the H and tell-tale signs from the h that she is used to being abused.
The drama explosion... Don't know if I got that far. Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? Ufh Was it OTT? Probably Separation involved? Definitely Was it resolved properly or rushed? Don't care to know.
Final Notes... I blame myself for trying to give this series a second try. My issues? 1. This story is probably 70% angst and internal dialog 2. The H is extremely abusive of the H and essentially brags about it. My last straw was how he treated the h after his bar brawl. 3. Drama after drama after drama throughout the story.
This story could have been 65% shorter and still contained plenty of angst, internal dialog and drama.
What slays me is that I enjoyed the actual premise of the story which is why I read as far as I did.
IF YOU LOVE CONTINUOUS ANGST, INTERNAL DIALOG AND TONS OF DRAMA AND DON'T MIND DETAILED SEX SCENES, YOU WILL LOVE THIS STORY! I know that plenty of readers love it. I hope that the H learns how poorly he treated the h and turns himself around.
Let’s talk about No Prince Charming, the first book in the series. It started strong—great writing, interesting setup, and characters with real potential. And then…the angst decided to take over like an unwelcome third main character. Claire’s hot-and-cold routine got old real fast. It was all, “I want you—no I don’t. Kiss me—but stay away. I’m jealous—but I’m also not interested in you” Girl, PICK A LANE.
Meanwhile Killian kept chasing after her like she was handing out free oxygen. Somehow—miraculously—they figured it out enough to end Book 1 in a relationship, and honestly the authors should’ve stopped there. But no. They gave us this second book, and wow… I don’t even know where to begin.
Killian in this book? I wanted to shake him until common sense fell back into his skull. You made this girl fall for you and then abandoned her because of an identity crisis? Really? Look, I’m not heartless—I get that he went through a lot. But the way he spiraled and decided, on his own, that Claire only loved “Killian Stone” and not the current him? Sir, did Claire EVER suggest she was in it for fame or money? Did she even hint at that? No. You just invented drama like it was a side hustle.
And honestly, the worst part wasn’t even Killian. Oh no. It was Claire’s complete personality transplant. The girl who played hot-and-cold in Book 1 suddenly turns into a full-time doormat in Book 2. He abandons her, emotionally wrecks her, disappears for months, and she STILL chases him? It got painful to read. And when he finally reappears, she takes him back like he just stepped out to buy milk. Zero grovel. Zero accountability. Six months of suffering and he gets welcomed back with a hug? Absolutely not.
And the conclusion? This is where I tap out of the series. I have zero interest in watching bitchy Margaux magically get a redemption arc or spending any more time with side characters who never managed to be interesting in the first place. This book was enough for me.
Heart-Pounding, Hands Down Hottest and Sexiest Romance of The Year with Prince Killian and his Fairy!
I gave this Amazing book a five star rating, but i would have gladly given more.. Author's Payne and Blue, once again blew me away with the Phenomenal and Electrifying love story that is Killian and Claire. Enraptured through and through, I simply cannot get enough. There are secrets and lots of trials along the way that will either tear them apart or make them stronger than ever. I laughed, I cried and I fanned myself alot along the way, but I devoured every last page and still I want more. No matter if they are at work or play this dynamic couple along with all the people they share their lives with made this one of the best reads ever! No real spoilers from me. Action, adventure, business, loss, hurt, lots of laughs, some tears, but a whole lot of the best and steamiest sex scenes. A must read that I One Hundred Percent Recommend to All. Cannot wait for what is next from these two Talented and Amazing Ladies!
