Secrets of Stone #8

No White Knight

Rate this book
I was once told that the woman you have to work the hardest for would be the one worth working for by far - and Taylor Mathews has turned the expression into a mantra for me. Here I am, Maclain Stone, centering my very existence on the woman. She’s quickly become my obsession, and my reason for trying to be a better human - though trust me when I say that may never happen.

But I’m going to try. For her.

The fight...

But fate may have the last laugh. Years of living in the fast lane, literally and figuratively, are catching up with me as I fight to downshift into a lower gear and win the right to commit to this incredible woman who has tumbled into my life.

The favor...

I’m ready for the change, but is she? So far, she’s rejected every offer I’ve made and shut every door in my face. If she won’t admit her feelings to herself, how can she commit to me?

Angel Payne and Victoria Blue did an AMAZING job with this book! LOVED IT..

Mac and Taylor have amazing chemistry. I absolutely love Taylor and her independent ways. She refuses to ask for help. Mac wants more than anything to make her see he can be what she needs. She has many issues going on in her life and there has never been anything easy for her. She is always taking care of others and never herself. She is definitely a character that we can all relate to.

Can Mac bring her walls down and show her there is more to life? He has a few secrets and challenges of his own. He finds himself falling hard for Taylor.. Things that normally work for him do not work with her...

You will LOVE this addition to the Series.. I cannot wait to read the rest of their story.

Woah. Hot dang... this book was incredible! So much drama, so much heat! Gah!! 5-I-Wish-I-Could-Rate-It-Higher-Stars!
I completely adore Mac and Taylor!

Taylor and Mac meet when Taylor’s friend goes into surgery, she’s very stand offish and a little sarcastic towards him in the beginning, almost as though it’s a way of not getting too close to someone. But as the story thickens, they get closer, the chemistry between them deepens, and oh my god! So so hot that I could feel the heat melting my kindle as I read on!

Taylor is a strong headed independent woman who refuses to ask for help, who seems like she’s always doing things for everyone else but herself!

Mac wants nothing more than to help her in any way he can, to show her that he’s the man for her and the man she needs, Mac has his own drama going on throughout the book too, and both characters can somewhat relate to each others issues.

Together Mac and Taylor are fireworks, extremely hot sex, a whole lot of chemistry, and a lot of drama! This love story isn’t like anything I’ve read before. It’s not your typical romance, it’s so much more! but will he be able to open her eyes? Will she let her guard down?
I was not expecting this storyline whatsoever and I’m so glad it was everything but what I thought!

Angel and Victoria are a force to be reckoned with! I couldn’t think of a better duo to be writing an incredible series like this. They write well together, the story is extremely well written and laid out perfectly. They hit a home run!!

When we first see Mac and Taylor together I expected fireworks, and some royal battles. What we get in No White Knight is battlefield level explosions in and out of the 'bedroom'.

Mac and Taylor each have issues and there are a lot of similarities between them that they have yet to see. Parents are the people who are supposed to teach us to be reasonably functional adults. But sometimes they teach us to be closed off, self absorbed and distrustful. If this couple can break the old chains then they may have a chance. But the pain of trying to love someone who refuses to step outside old hurts and mistrust may be a wall even a Stone cannot break down.

I love these two. They are passion exemplified and a truly great love in the making. I am so ready for the next book to see how they bust through the impasse. Angel and Victoria have done it again. This book is fabulous!

Maclain Stone and Taylor Mathews

Mac is relentless when it comes to his interest in Taylor Mathews. So far, all his efforts have gotten him no where.

Taylor, trying to convince not only her friends, but also herself, that Maclain Stone is off limits, but she's having trouble getting her mind and body to get the message.

The chemistry is so intense, you can almost feel it with each word you read. But along with chemistry, there is so much drama. Both have mom issues. Taylor, always having to "bail" hers out in one way or another, and Mac, with his being a major manipulator.

Like with the earlier Secrets of Stone Series, Angel and Victoria have written another 5 star hit, and now I'm anxious to read the next book in the series, to find out how Mac & Taylor get along.

Angel and Victoria knocked this one out of the park and I wish I could have given it more then 5 stars.

Mac and Taylor have the chemistry that can't be matched.
We all have a little Taylor inside of us. She is strong, independent and takes care of others before herself.
Mac wants to show Taylor that it is ok to need someone and he wants to be her someone but she isn't making it easy for him.

Will Mac be able to break her down?
This book is an awesome addition to the SOS family.

Straight up, if you are looking at this review in the scope of if you should read this book then let me stop you right there. The answer is a huge YES!!! But you need to make sure that you read the first book in this epic series first. It could be read as a stand alone but there are a lot of references to the other characters in this series.
With that said, Mac and Taylor are amazing characters to be able to delve into. We have been able to see some snippets of them in previous books, and all that has done is wet the appetite for more. They are both strong bold characters that need to have their own way. The trick will be to see who bends and who breaks. Can they both see each other through there own issues. Can they make each other better people?
No White Knight is well written from beginning to end. The authors have this ability to make you see exactly what they are trying to get across to you as the reader. SO much so that you want to look up the places they are describing to see how well they nail it. Trust and believe that it is always a pleasure when you realize that the words on the page rival the images you will find your self Googling.
This series as a whole as come such a long way from the beginning in the best possible ways. You feel a true investment in all the characters, and are crossing your fingers for more.

"No White Knight" by Angel Payne & Victoria Blue is bk 8 in Secrets of Stone series. This is the story of Taylor Mathews and Maclain 'Mac' Stone.

Taylor and Mac first meet when Taylor’s friend goes into surgery and she’s at first standoffish and somewhat sarcastic towards him in the first of their meeting; it’s like her way of not getting too close to people. As the story progresses, they get alot closer and the chemistry between them gets hotter and their connection deepens! Like super hot that I could feel the steam coming from my kindle as I read their red-hot love story. Along with their connection and red-hot chemistry, they also have in common" mom drama". Taylor always has to bail hers out one way or another while Mac has to deal with his being a major manipulator.

With the earlier books of the Secrets of Stone Series, Angel and Victoria have another hit in their 5 star series. Now I'm dying to read the next book in this series to find out how Mac & Taylor make out and will they get their HEA. This was such a beautiful and intense read with such rollercoaster of emotions that have you glued to the story from start to finish.

My Rating: 4.8 stars *****

Mac and Taylor are so hot.....

Mac wants Taylor - ever since he met her in that hospital room he’s been thinking about her and fantasizing about her. Taylor, who has a horrible past doesn’t trust happiness or love. But can she continue to deny that their relationship goes beyond sex?? After an intense dinner with his condescending mother Taylor decides it’s just not worth it and ends things with Mac. Can anyone or anything bring them back together??

I love that the authors found a way to incorporate the characters from previous books into this book and keep us on top of their lives as well as creating a brand new story to fall in love with!! I love this entire series so far and book 8 is a must read!! You’ll fall in love with No White Knight!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You first experience the intensity Mac and Taylor have in No Broken Bond. But getting into their story, that intensity is 100x more. They each have their own personal issues. Taylor with her inability to trust her heart to anyone which I can relate to and Mac with his inability to let anyone in because he has to be king. But soon Mac realizes that his past is just that his past and Taylor is the one thing that makes him feel alive. You almost start out hating him because he can be a jerk but as you learn why and understand it, he begins to change. He falls for Taylor and will do anything to keep her. But Taylor's past is not something she can escape from. Her mother didn't set a great example and unfortunately she still has to deal with her mother's problems. Her walls are built so high and so strong that Mac finds himself barely making a dent. Though Taylor tries to bury everything she knows she has stronger feelings for Mac than she let's on and it scares her to death. Their relationship is so intense and you can't help but love them both. But can these two make it work or will their relationship go up in flames?

Every damn one of the Secrets of Stone books seems to top the last! How can one not love the Stone characters, their dark and mysterious pasts, and the alpha hunks that grace the pages. In this book, Maclain Stone, the brain surgeon with all the smooth moves in and out of the hospital finally meets his check-mate, in Taylor Mathews. She might be tiny, but her sharp wit, brilliant mind, and sass are no match for Mac.

The best love affairs are those like Mac's and Taylor's, where two people are so focused on guarding their hearts that it takes something "big" for them to see just how perfect life could be. But in this case will that moment be too late? Will Taylor finally realize that the queen holds all the power in life's game of chess, or will her king stay a white knight? Give me more please, Angel and Victoria, love the Secrets of Stone series!!

AMAZING...Didn't see the ending coming! These two women can write a book. You snicker a little bit and you fall in love with a transformed Mac Stone. Taylor has fascinated Mac from the very first time he met her and decided he will have her. Follow the sexy, sassy and emotionally twisted story of these two.
A most excellent book and Series - props to the authors they have a quick wit and are very talented.

This is the first book in the series that I have read and I am planning to go back and read the other 7 books in the series! Since this book is the start of Taylor and Mac's story, you don't need to read the other 7 to get up to date on this couple. However, the previous books are about the other couples that are part of this story and and how they got together.

Taylor has many childhood issues that she puts on a front so that people don't under estimate her. She is the type that would "rather ask for forgiveness than permission". I love that about her and her sassy attitude. She loves her friend and are grateful to have them but she doesn't show them all of who she really is because she doesn't want any sympathy.

Mac Stone is a highly regarded neurosurgeon who first met Taylor when she was at the hospital supporting her friend. Mac wants to get to know Taylor better even she has refused to acknowledge him. Their chemistry is off the charts and even Taylor's friends are pushing her to have a relationship with Mac.

The ensuing story about Taylor and Mac is really fun to read. We get to find out their past and understand why it makes them who they are but also get to see how each of them want to break free of it so they can pursue a deeper relationship with each other. Mac is persistent in his pursuit of Taylor and keeps showing her that he will be there and she can rely on him. Taylor wants that with Mac also but her traumatic childhood gets in the way and her past keeps coming back to haunt her.

I can't wait to find out what will come next for these two people.

These two authors make up a dynamic duo with serving up a story which has left me in a tizzy of extreme emotions long after I finished it. It surrounds the crazy chase between Taylor Mathews, who has serious commitment phobia to the absolute extreme, and Maclain Stone, the brilliant surgeon who has no filter, so he comes off very harsh a lot. Mac decides he has to have Taylor, but she's not having any of it, though the sparks are flying like crazy, with sparks hitting everyone in the vicinity. Obviously with those kind of fireworks, sexy times are a foregone conclusion, and just straight up lit the sheets on the floor on fire! He is determined to make her his permanently, while she's going to keep running, so the push & pull had me dropping all kinds of colorful metaphors while reading. I can see why Taylor is like she is for the most part, but there came a time where I was ready to shake her until her teeth rattled. Even with a cast of secondaries who called her on her crap, they didn't even really make a dent in the stubbornness. That leaves me so far crazy it's not even funny, then I come to the end. Yeah that ending has me so fired up that I can honestly say that these two authors are both #EVILWHORES with the way that they left me hangin! Now I'm dying inside for the next book, while HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING No White Knight TO ALL!

No White Knight is the eighth book in the Secrets of Stone series by Angel Payne and Victoria Blue. It features Maclain Stone, an arrogant neurosurgeon who, in his own words, is a cold-hearted dick and legendary lothario, used to getting whatever and whoever he wants and Taylor Mathews, a woman who spent her childhood taking on the role of ‘responsible adult’ looking after her addict mother and routinely bailing her out of jail. A situation that has continued into adulthood leaving her with major trust issues. When they meet the depth of the sexual attraction he feels is something new for him. For the first time in his life though, Mac has met a woman with apparently no interest in him so he’s going to have to work hard for it if he wants any kind of relationship with Taylor. When Taylor looks at Mac, despite feeling the same instant attraction that he does, she can’t escape seeing him as being the same as the multitude of men who passed through her mother’s life so, to protect herself from further hurt, she keeps everyone including Mac at arms length, using the ‘clown’ as she calls him for sex but not letting him in emotionally. After getting to know his ‘Sassy’ though Mac’s obsession has deepened into something more. He has fallen in love and has no intention of taking no for an answer. What will happen when the irresistible force meets the immoveable object?

These two authors have a knack of creating male characters that at first I don’t like very much but I eventually end up cheering them on. With Mac and Taylor, they both have childhood ghosts to overcome. A privileged Mac might have been born into a wealthy family with every advantage in life but he’s been just as much a hostage of his manipulative mother as Taylor was to hers. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see if they get their happily ever after. I also want more of the group discussions Taylor has with her girlfriends. Something tells me Mac is going to need all the help they can give him.

Wow Angel Payne and Victoria Blue have done it again! I started this series about a week and a half ago and I was totally hooked from the beginning. This series is written with a couple of books per couple with the previous characters still being involved. So you can read this as a stand alone and the authors have given you plenty of background to make it great. But if you read them all it will be even better. Mac and Taylor are at odds from the beginning. Taylor has had to be independent and has taken care of herself since childhood. Mac has an ego that is huge. Normally he wouldn't have bothered pursuing a woman who was so difficult, but Taylor's spunk has him coming back for more.

This couple is HOT! Love that with each new book we get to know everyone in more detail. The authors bring you on such a ride with Taylor and Mac you can't put it down. And OMG the ending has me on pins and needles waiting for the next installment of the Secrets of Stone series. Grab the first book and start reading you won't be sorry.

Taylor and Mac are about to sweep you off your feet with a quest unlike any other. He knew in that instant he laid his eyes on the fair maiden that she would be his salvation and possibly his downfall. She seems less than enthused by his pitch to woo her, but he is determined to find a way to scale her walls. Taylor has guards around her heart for a very good reason and she sees no reason to let them down anytime soon. Mac is doing is darndest to chip them down, but can she trust him with her baggage. A story unlike any other that is real, raw and true to make you remember why you love reading books like this in the first place.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book

I loved the story of Mac and Taylor. I loved their dynamic and the atmosphere they were in. The attraction between them was undeniable. Taylor seems super deep with some deep rooted issues from her past. I’m looking forward to figuring her out. Mac comes off as a cocky self assured guy but there is something beneath the surface he won’t show. All in all, this was a fantastic book. The plot was great, the pace was perfect and the story had amazing flow. These authors knocked it out of the park.

"..we both know the queen holds all the power on the board."

Angel Payne and Victoria Blue write stories that bleed into your soul and make you better for it. Eght books into this series and I come back to them like a junkie needing a fix. The push and pull of Mac and Taylor is a delight to watch unfold. Mac the renowned brain surgeon, Taylor the friend of the "Stone" women. Together they are sassy and sexy. Underneath the exterior they are both a bit jaded by what life has thrown at them. For once t was Mac that realized that he was out of his depths with Taylor and is trying to find the right way to prove to her that he is worthy of his trust and love.

Be forewarned, this story ends in a cliff hanger and not I can't wait to see how the rest of their story unfolds.

5 Star Review of No White Knight (Secrets Of Stone #8) by Angel Payne & Victoria Blue
From the start I was entranced by Maclain Stone, and Taylor Mathews . I have read other books in this series and this may well be my favourite.
Taylor finds herself attracted to Mac despite herself and he is determined to have her even though she continually resists. However Taylor doesn't count on the persistence that is Mac . Both Mac and Taylor have issues that they need to overcome and No White Knight certainly contains plenty of romance, spice and drama.
Taylor is such an independent woman I could easily see her as a friend. I can understand the frustration that Mac feels but really all he wants is to be the one to rescue Taylor and bring down the walls she has surrounded herself with. The big question is can he?
No White Knight is smoking hot and certainly delivers on the sizzle. Told in dual POV’s it will spark your interest and keep you entertained. Both Ms.Payne and Ms. Blue obviously work well together as it was impossible to determine where one author ended and the other took over, which is a sign of a great book in my opinion.

I absolutely loved this book! This is book 8 of the Secrets of Stone series and Angel Payne and Victoria Blue did not disappoint. We have Mac and Taylor, who each have their own challenges with life. Mac is a hotshot neurosurgeon and playboy who falls for Taylor. Her on the other hand, wants nothing to do with him. She is Miss Independent but life has been rough on her. She helps others while she does nothing for herself and Mac wants to help her bring those walls down. Mac also has secrets and challenges of his own. He soon realizes Taylor is not like other women and won't fall for his tactics. In the end, their chemistry grows too strong and it gets very hot between the two. Of course, there will be drama. I love how independent Taylor is and I can relate to her since I too do a lot for others without thinking to do something for myself. If you are a fan of this series, you will LOVE this couple's story.

I think that we’ve finally gotten to the last main supporting character (if that’s a thing) with Taylor’s story. We have known her to be the firecracker of the girls group, the one who’s strong and feisty because she’s hiding from something. We met her match in the last installment in Dr Stone, Mac – when he was saving Fletcher’s life. Seeing how these two dance around reality in this eighth book to the series is intense on so many different levels.

What i’ll start with here is that Taylor is fifty shades of messed up and she’s lucky enough to have found a man who’s strong, powerful, stable and who wants to be there for her, yet that’s something that she’s not willing to allow. She keeps him and all other people at arms length because it’s safe, but she doesn’t need safe.

There’s a new level of intimacy in this installment that we haven’t seen before and it makes this couple’s dynamic so unique to the others. Where we know that Margaux and Michel liked to have a dominant aspect to things, we really see that come to a head here with Mac because that’s his jam. It’s light BDSM but it’s still there and shockingly, it’s exactly the flavor that Taylor needs.

The carnival ride that we’re on here is like the Gravatron – the one that spins around and around pulling you to the outside as a means to control you but as soon as it stops, you have no idea which way is up. That’s what we have here. Every time Mac starts to break through Taylor’s walls, they get thrown around and go right back up making any forward progress almost impossible. When he tells her exactly how he feels about her, she runs, brushes it off and minimizes things as her defense mechanism. He realizes that he’s not enough until she determines that she’s enough for herself and after a series of unfortunate events, that’s where they come to rest.

I”m left wondering what will have to happen to make this relationship work. Taylor is terrified of relationships because of how she was raised, yet that’s not an excuse anymore as she’s established herself as strong and powerful. Mac on the other hand though can only fight so hard for something that’s impossible and we see what that means. the last page – we see something come to life that means the story’s trajectory will change and we don’t yet know what it means for this pair. So….that means i MUST find the next book which i think may be the last in the series.
