Read up to chapter 36. Soooooo ever wanted to read a story about pregnancy and child rearing taken from a male prospective (yet dressed up as a female one)?
Then have you ever wanted to see that viewpoint embedded into a lazily built historical fiction setting mixed with a pinch of magic? Yeah well me neither, yet thats exactly what "I Gave Birth to the Tyrant's Child" did.
I also didn't wanna see the protagonist placed into a love triangle between an abusive controlling sleaze bag, and a tall dark self entitled bata orbiter. Yet this "romance" decided those relationship dynamics are what readers really want.
If that wasn't enough. This story was also situated around royalty. So naturally you gotta have plotting going on and intrigue right? Right?... Only no, not really. Since EVERY character in this mess is too shallow to offer up any interesting/clever scheming to get hooked on or care about. Or even given any real page space in which to get their plotting done in.
As for every page secondary characters were given to interact, we got ten pages of protagonist given every reason to run screaming from creepy baby daddy (and instead finding said abusive behavior endearing).
So yeah I've no idea why anyone would want to read past chapter 2, and I've honestly no idea why I kept reading to chapter 36.
However what I do know is that you should read something else... Anything else over this. For life is too shot to waste on poorly constructed manga.
It started good and then turned into "just okay" after the pregnancy arc. Unfortunately, I've seen, read, and watched many romances with a similar premise to this one, only better at telling it without leaving so many characters feeling underdeveloped and, uh, "cartoonish". That and I'm not sold on Kyle as a love interest, nor Leon shifting into a new antagonist from his unrequited love triangle role. Elan is the most developed character of the full set but it seems like the men surrounding her really don't care about her for who she is, truly. And it leaves a sour taste in my mouth for expectations of what this creator's idea of a HEA for her will look like.
¡Me encantó!
dude, i’m really loving this!!! i’m excited for future updates. it’ll be interesting to see how kyle and elan’s relationship might change in the future. i expect they’ll become an actual ‘family’ at some point in time… and i’m even more exited about the character development!!! naturally, i’m mostly intrigued about kyle’s. he’s so damn oblivious about everything, lol. including himself!
edit: we’ll, it’s finished… and things went as predicted. it was sweet and cliché and wholesome, absolutely, but i do wish we’d gotten to see a more elaborate ending. something a little more emotionally intricate, at the very least! but hey, who knows? we might just get a couple of epilogue chapters as a bonus at some point—whether it be of their domestic family life or more of the ‘royal’ aspects of their imperial life; anything set after their wedding day would do, really. the ending just felt needlessly rushed… for no particular reason, too, sheesh.
still, once again, the story’s been overall sweet, pretty, wholesome… with nice character development, beautiful art and all that… but where’s the actual intrigue? where’s the emotion?? where’s the buildup towards the final conclusion??? ugh, i don’t know. i guess i feel a little let down by that. they could’ve prepared the ending better. :(
meh, anyway. would’ve liked to give the manhwa a 5 star rating, but i can’t for this one. the writing’s too inexpressive and flat for that. it’s a shame, but oh well! it’s been an enjoyable journey either way—otherwise i wouldn’t have stuck around.
