Fierce witches. Necromancers. Soul reapers. Mysterious dragons. Secret councils. Forbidden alliances. The Under Realm Academy awaits.
Senior year at Under Realm Academy. Perfect, right? Should be, but isn’t.
Moira Bloodworth’s got a crush on the hottest demon in school—Calder Darkmore. Lucky her, it seems he feels the same way. Cool, right? Nope.
Two problems. Aidan Grimsbane, Calder’s best friend, a necromancer, and an all-around jerk of a bully. He’s one problem. The other? A secret she’s trying to keep hidden and decipher at the same time. A horrible rash between her shoulder blades. Her eyes turning black.
There’s only one person who can provide the answer to her problems. Her dead mom. What kind of solution is that. You can’t talk to dead people. Unless you know a necromancer. Ugh. Aidan Grimsbane, that same jerk who’s trying to keep her from getting to know Calder better.
Caution: Cliffhangers, violence can be found in this series of action-packed fantasy including necromancers, hot dragons, and fierce witches.
I am a YA fan. I don't know how I happened upon this book but it is a great mix of the elements I love: shifters, witches, and coming of age young people. I really did not pay attention to the title to notice or realize that it is a series. Some of it was predictable but I was rooting for Calder. He seems like an all around guy. Aiden was the jerk so we'll see as the story develops I guess. I am definitely invested.
Moira Bloodworth is a witch. She is a witch in school, learning to become the best witch she can be. It is her senior year at Under Realm Academy, and something is happening to her. First, in her favorite class of the year, Advanced Placement Potions, she suddenly felt hot, dizzy, and almost fainted. Then she felt heated when Calder Darkmore came over, but then because he is the hottest person in the school, it might have nothing to do with the symptoms she felt in class. After that, she had a terrible itching between her shoulder blades that turned into a burning and then just pain, but in the bathroom, when she tried to see if she did have a rash on her back, it was not her back that gave her pause, it was her eyes. They were all black orbs. Eventually, her eyes returned to their normal hazel color, but what would happen next?
The physical world-building left me with tunnel vision. The ethereal world-building was on point when exposed to the reader. The character interaction in places seemed juvenile, but beyond those instances, it seemed like it could be real. The character histories could have been exposed more, but in all were adequate.
The story of a young adult maturing in a fantasy world with action and adventure, romance, paranormals, and supernaturals is a place to read about. I give this series starter five stars out of five stars.
This book is about Moira, a fire witch that begins to have strange symptoms in her magic school. thru all of the book she is living her normal life while she I getting some weird pain and fevers that are not normal for witches. After a while she decides to get help from her aunt and when she lies to her, she decides to get help from her dead mom. for this she contacts the necromancer she hates, for him to help her communicate and finally find out that she is half Dragon shifter. something super discriminated upon in the magic community. I enjoyed the book a lot, whilst the plot is not hard to guess, I enjoyed her day to day life and he personality was very funny and cool to hold th book by itself. Like she wasn't a Mary Sue, but she did have good qualities that made her a powerful witch without th New discovery of her powers. She has passions and is quite childish in some things, but she is a nice protagonist. Aiden as the necromancer, was also very cute in the last chapters, and that made me love him even more than I thought I would. The story is a little bit normal, but the world building and the way is written is very original, so you don't feel annoyed by the simple plots of the book
I downloaded Unstable: Witches vs Necromancers vs Dragons, book 1 of the Under Realm Academy series, as a free ebook from Amazon. Despite some inconsistencies (like ash or no ash in her palm) and proofread issues, I enjoyed this book. If you don't like a predictable story line, not all readers may have the patience to get through the book, but I enjoyed the characters enough to persist as the academy tropes built up: orphan, unknown origin of strange powers, secret crush, adults hesitant to give explanations, etc.
A book that's great for younger teen readers, Unstable is about a teenage witch named Moira, who goes to a supernatural private school. Under Realm Academy is home to every kind of magical creature imaginable. It allows them to grow up safe, away from humans, where they can study their own crafts in peace. Like a lot of the other students at the school, she has no family.
This was basically filler and fluff. I guessed she was a hybrid dragon early on. Her mom and dad are dead. Father is unknown. Animal shifters are dangerous. She'll probably be recruited or stolen to live with her dragon shifter father who wants to use her/his army to take back his throne or territory. I skipped huge chunks of the book and still had no problem guessing what would happen. The next books will no doubt be just as preteen obtuse.
Unfortunately, this book wasn't to my taste. The story was ok, but the MC was more juvenile than most MCs that are in the same age range in other books and that put me off a bit. Also, the story was extremely predictable and I was waiting half the book for the FMC to realize what I had already concluded. There were definitely things I liked about the book, but overall it was just too predictable for me.
Moira is a witch who goes against the rules and belongs to a powerful covenant of witches. She goes to school Under Realm Academy with necromancers, and demons, soul reapers, and doesn't get along with animal shifters. She has a crush on Calder and his best friend Aidan who was her enemy. When different species have children were considered hybrid.
To be honest, I read this a few weeks ago, and I can't remember much of what happened. I think she's going to end up with her crush's best friend, the necromancer, and it was pretty clear that she was going to turn out to be a dragon shifter, but I'm not sure what else happened.
I don't think I was the right audience for this. Teenagers will probably love it.
I literally did not put this book down once I started reading…. And then it was done… way too fast… I loved the characters and the storyline and could even picture the castle of the school…. Really a good read, definitely look forward to the next book… just have to find out where this is heading….
Read the first book and than went on to the 2nd book just to reread a really detailed summary of the first book. Just disappointed. The beginning of this book was really slow, once it got into the story it built fast and was good. But honestly just skip the first book, you won't miss much and just go straight to the 2nd book.
This is a good story, probably more for teens and young adults. I enjoyed it but it felt quite predictable to me unfortunately and I prefer a story that will keep me guessing and surprise me.
I did take a point off for how predictable parts of the storyline were. I have a few ideas of how the next book will go. I may read it just to see if my ideas were/are correct.
A fire witch, senior at Under Realm Academy, Maria is having some weird symptoms. Her Aunt doesn't answer any of her questions. So she has a necromancer contact her dead mother. She learns her Father was a Dragon shifter. And he may still be alive.
Cute with very little going on, I got to 27% and yep..it couldn't hold my attention. It might be me so I'll let it set and come back to it at a later date. 3 Star rating - I will update rating at later date.
In typical YA fashion the rollercoaster of teenage angst and drama is par for the course. Definitely was a great story looking to see what happens next.
This book wasnt really for me! It is more for teens and I think overall this book is okay especially for the romance bit. Theres nothing groundbreaking about it but I think its a decent read
