While cupcake food truck owner Isabel Addington is baking up sweets, everyone around her seems to be cooking up murder.
Isabel and her business partner Claire are working out of a borrowed truck that’s too small for them, but they couldn’t miss the opportunity to sell their cupcakes at the annual hot air balloon festival. It’s the break they need to expand the business.
But the day goes from bad to worse to murder when a man plummets to his death from one of the hot air balloons.
The operator swears the man jumped out on his own. The man’s family insists he wouldn’t have killed himself.
Isabel finds herself in the middle of the investigation again, but more is at stake than she realized.
Especially when someone delivers a threat into the hands of one of the people Isabel loves the most.
Gum Drop Dead is the third book in Emily James’ Cupcake Truck Mysteries.
Cupcake recipe included!
This book is a "clean" read and contains no swearing, gore, or steamy bedroom scenes. While the series is best enjoyed in order, each book is a complete mystery on its own.
This is the best in the series so far. I hadn't enjoyed this series as much as the maple series because I didn't like being in the head of someone so fearful. This one turned things around and made the series worth reading. Isabel begins to make better choices and take control of her thoughts.
I lost quite a lot of sleep reading this book. Isabel and Claire got mixed up in a mess at a hot air balloon festival, by serving a man that looked real sick a donut. Overhead a heated conversation with the man that controlled the balloon as he went to get in the balloon and only one fell out. That ended the festival and everyone that was near were the man fell out, were questioned and of course Isabel, Dan and Janie were on a blanket not far away watching balloons take off. Claire was in the food truck while Isabel is with Dan. He had to take his daughter Janie away to Claire so she couldn't see or hear what had happened. After Isabel and Claire found out it was the man they served, Isabel had to find out why. Things got real stressful, because they couldn't stop seeing that image out of their heads. The more they dug for answers, there were more questions. You have to read for details. You won't be disappointed!!!!
my rating at the moment is a bit unfair because i realized i haven’t even read the first 2 books of this series! i checked this book out from the library because i ADORE these cute and cozy food-related murder mysteries during the fall time, and it’s no wonder i was more than a bit lost throughout this book and didn’t connect to the characters because i haven’t even read the first couple books from the series! silly ol’ me!
despite the misunderstanding from my end, this book as a standalone was still a cute and cozy read for me! definitely need to check out the first two books during my next visit to my local library though! haha!
once i read the other two, i will probably update this rating to be more fair!!
I wasn't really sure who the killer was in this, but it's always a good read to get to that point in this series. Isabel's making even more progress in her relationships with Dan, Janie and Claire. Claire seems like a strange person to get to know, but she seems to always do the right thing and is always fiercely loyal to her family and friends, and I'm assuming she's finally thinking of Isabel as a friend. On to the fourth book, because I heard that the fifth is going to be the last, and I definitely want to be caught up to read it!
Lots of twists and turns as the story progresses. Lots of options for the murderer. And in the end justice prevails. But the most rewarding thing for me was the incredible value of friendship and a relationship with the Lord.
