"No secrets in a shifter family."
by Goddess of Chaos

Inferno: The subtitle says this is a redemption story, and it totally delivers.

Kayla is a Swanson, a bear shifter with a career, a plan, and a busy life given she's also a volunteer firefighter, but when you live in a small rural town you learn to do a lot of things and embrace the fact a lot of your neighbors are also on the family tree.

Pete is persona non grata when it comes to the Swansons, and while he knows their name, and they all know his name, its not like they've all met and recognize each other on sight. If they did he might have backed away from Kayla instead of daring to get close enough to realize she's the only one his saber tooth wants.

I loved Pete's redemption, in part because there was so much character growth, we got to see the mistakes of youth, and how age, time, thought and wisdom can temper the man, and his mind, and given another chance, he can chart a better path.

I also loved the Swanson family dynamics, the inner turmoil when it came to forgiveness, holding a grudge, giving second chances, and supporting loved ones.

This done in one book calls back to Mark and Caitlyn's story (it gives enough info you don't have to have read it, but that story will definitely enrich this one), as well as Margaret and Daniel.

The next short story keys into Inferno, and is really some scenes that could have been in it... but... were just another place and time when some things could have been revealed... that being said - they are totally worth reading, as it is some great "extended family" moments.

Scorch: Engaging Characters and Interesting Mystery...

Almost, but not quite, a second-chance Romance, this story was a lot more fun than I was expecting.

Ethan's attention is grabbed by a strange sound -- and the plane crash it heralds, but even more attention-worthy is the NTSB investigator who comes with a team of professionals to figure out what brought the plane down, making a fiery mess of the barn on Ethan's Family's Ranch.

This done in one quick read references characters who are obviously in other books, in a way that left me curious to read their stories but did not make me feel like I have missed out on something by leaping in mid-series. (I read this when it first came out, having not read Inferno at the time... I read Inferno as part of this box set.)

Sophie’s Christmas Dad: If you're invisible, then the Mean Girls can’t make fun of you."

Sophie is a shy girl, who wants the mean girls to forget about her, and a chance to appreciate her friends and family for the holidays.

But, when the main house at the ranch she lives on is damaged by fire, and the bio-dad she's never met makes contact, Christmas gets eventful fast.

This done in one quick read is a great story for a lot of characters. It focuses on the community, and the families in it, on how love is the tie that binds family, and the strength of friendship in trying times.

Spark: “Outrageous, sure. But impossible…"

Sophie has just returned home after her gap year, and while she knows she wants medical school to accept her application, the details of what she wants to do between now and starting medical school are less clear, until she stumbles into a local internship opportunity trying to figure out why people think a local Resort is haunted.

Matt and Chris are best friends, have been for years. They share a house and have found a rhythm for their lives that works... even if they both can't help missing their third musketeer, Sophie. But now Sophie is back, and life can return to normal, right? Or is it time Matt finally owned his feelings for Sophie? And Chris... he's got his own journey to take with Sophie.

Bearpaw Ridge is a community, and while I haven't read all of the previous stories, I've read enough to really appreciate the bonds, the way friends gather and are seen time and again, and the fact that each of these done-in-one books stand well on their own.

I read the stories in this box set out of order, having read Scorch and Spark when they were first available, then used the boxset to "fill in the gaps" I stand by my feeling that each story stands well on its own, with other stories really adding depth to the characters and the world.

This box set was a treat!

I received a copy from BookSprout; this is my honest review
-The author starts her book bundle with a dedication and author’s note which are both worth reading.
-There are so many repeats that it’s written like a serials instead of standalone books.
-Nice picture: “the scent of their mutual arousal rose like (sic) musky perfume between them”.
-Elle might be the matriarch but uses her position to manipulate everyone to her liking.
-All open-door unprotected scenes
-I thought there were too many places where people were thinking in their heads for too long when the timing was urgent – get on with it!
-“It was the Swansons’ custom to remove their shoes upon entering a home, to avoid tracking snow and filth into the rest of the house”. Weird and there’s no place for this in a story unless you’re talking about keeping your house cleaner than before – we’re not.
-Editing: Needs a serious pass. I sent an email to the author with details and to complain.

Inferno: Kayla thinks Bijan’s boring but she really has to finish this mating thing and get over it. On the other hand, Pete makes her feel cherished but won’t go for him. I thought the cold shoulder about their mating was over the top. Every shifter knows that you can’t choose your mate, your beast does. The clans – both – should understand it was beyond Pete and Kayla’s control. Then Kayla gives birth and a lot of people are present - I mean, a lot of people – In particular, why doesn’t the mother stop making comments and leave Pete and Kayla so they can get a bit of privacy?

Giving Thanks: There’s a whole paragraph that appears in the previous book, like the author couldn’t decide in which story to put that info in and forgot to delete afterwards: “They had just hired Tyler to add…”. This story overlaps Inferno.

Scorch: More a mystery suspense than a shifter romance. I thought it a big weird that the hospital would put two different gender in the same room, even though they were family. This is the story of Ethan & Tamara and Aidan and Samantha. It’s not a spoiler since it’s obvious almost from the start. It’s too bad we don’t have much details about Aidan & Samantha.

Sophie’s Christmas Dad: When Sophie received the first message from her father, she unlocked her phone (Loc 7180), then her friends checked her laptop (Loc 7212), but Matt leaned into her to have a better view of her computer screen (Loc 7225). The whole super woman Elle didn’t appeal to me at all and it was getting old. As if she would lose people’s faith because she needed help, quite the opposite. I’m also not sure what the whole fire thing added to the story as the main characters should have been Sophie and her two extended family. Noel was a bit early to stay for the Holidays; it was only November 30th. When Mitya explains to Noel how to join the FD he says: “Basically, all you need to join is a pulse and no criminal record”. Inferno, book #10, makes that statement a big lie. Here we learn that even though Sophie is an Ordinary, she has a special gift, just like her bio-dad.

Spark: The story is a ménage intertwined with supernatural stuff and a good ending on many levels. Justice finally prevailed. Sophie is naïve, clueless, believes everything as facts, doesn’t use her brains (or her instincts) even though she’s definitely smart. She’s also wishy-washy; she doubts her thoughts and doesn’t have a spine. She thinks about Hunter way before we know the story; it was not bringing the reader to a high, it was just quite irritating because all we knew what that the incident was painful – FYI, it only hurt her pride. I was a bit ticked off by Chris’ demeanor with Sophie. Too fast: she gets her first kiss, then her pants are down. He only wants to play with her. He’s playing with Matt’s mate???? Loc 10882: Sophie kept receiving messages from her friends, even her sister, but her sister had her phone confiscated by her mother earlier in the evening. At some point, there a she-said/he-said going on; Sophie has the texts in her phone to prove who lured who but doesn’t use them. Loc 11242 Kenny says he needs to take the statements then they have to get medical attention – medical attention always come first. I’m not sure why Caitlyn wants to do some PR when there are no more ghosts.

Below is a review of one of the books to give you an idea of what you’ll find in this collection.

*** Reviewing “SOPHIE'S CHRISTMAS DAD” ***
Big happenings in Bearpaw Ridge with characters the reader knows and cares about. After a terrible fire damages bear shifter Elle Swanson's home, she is devastated that their big family Christmas dinner probably won’t be happening this year. It has always been her duty and joy to bring the celebration together as the clan Matriarch, and she doesn’t even consider accepting help from anyone else. This has always been “her” job. But will she realize others could take joy from being allowed to participate with her this year?

Sophie Markidis is also facing a huge change in her life as she begins to view her best friend as something more than someone stuck in the “friend zone”. Wearing the perfect dress, she is ready for the Winter Wonderland dance – but will it be on the arm of her best friend and secret crush, Matt Swanson? Is she ready for that? There is also another important event coming her way as she submitted a DNA sample and, if things go well in the search, she may finally meet her biological dad. That is, unless he ghosts her?

You won’t want to miss this story with these big events converging to make an exciting story line. Good news and bad may all swirl together, so grab your copy and catch up on the chaotic happenings! Then grab another from this box set and settle in for some good stories!

Sophie's Christmas Dad

A great adventure follows, but she's got problems with deciding which of her best friends she loves the best.

That last story tho...

I’ve enjoyed getting to know the shifter families of Bearpaw Ridge over the past 17 novels and novellas (technically there are 12 books but there are 5 in-between novellas). They’ve dealt with tragedy and change and murder and fires, but also bigotry, prison, fatphobia, bullying, abandonment, reform after a criminal past and a myriad other issues. I really enjoyed this author’s writing and storytelling. Obviously binging all 17 books across 3 box sets over the course of a week, the pattern of the love scenes became very same and there were some similarities in plot. Yet she managed to keep each couple’s issues fresh and interesting.

I’m a fan of firefighter romance and of shifter romance and this series definitely has delivered on that. Whilst the books are standalone, there is a lot to be said for reading it in order and fully understanding the back stories of where everyone fits in. The final book in the series and in this volume was a little challenging for me. I despise a love triangle in romance and the characters came across as incredibly immature for most of the book. I must admit that I mostly hate-read the final book until the last quarter or so when the author salvaged it for me, and kind of brought it all together. It still is probably my least favourite in the series however, because of the love triangle adjacent behaviour in it. I feel like this is a good ending to the series and I enjoyed these books so much that I definitely plan to read more by this author.

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, and shenanigans the good kind that makes you keep turning the pages till last page has been turned. Talk about a book full of shifters, bears, wolves, sabretooth tigers and oh so much more this is a box set worth every penny. Inferno is Kayla’s story, Giving Thanks is about family, love and forgiveness, Scorch is Ethan’s story, Sophie’s Christmas is about devastating fire and Spark bring up the last of this set will all these couples find their own path to happiness and love?

I read the entire series of twelve books. I laughed and cried along with these families every step of the way. The last book felt like a betrayal to the love and integrity of the people who raised Sophie, Matthew and Chris. These three deserved so much more than the ending the author deemed appropriate for them. The multiple mating was totally out of place in this family dynamic. This trio is something you would expect in a vampire or witch coven. But not this family of shifters. I’m so disappointed in this author I can’t bring myself to read more of her books.

Excellent book set of a great series

I have really enjoyed this book set of the continuing Bearpaw Ridge series!

Ophelia Sexton is excellent at making relate and enjoy the most unexpected characters and situations, which is particularly true in this book set. Some of my favorites in this world are in this box set, including Inferno and Spark !

The audiobooks are excellent too with great narration by Beth Roeg (although, as an Australian, her Australian accent is not quite right)!

Probably the best of the sets, with the hardest problems and the happiest solutions.

The Swansons and all their in laws gather again for more happy endings, these shifters fight fires and wrongdoing as well. Their families are intertwined with the other shifter families, packs, dens, and prides to create one glorious whole encompassing all their families and spreading out over many states.

Loved this part of the series!

Enjoyed each story in this part of the series! Was surprised by the ending of the last story in the series but yet found myself very happy that Matt, Sophie and Chris made it work for all of them! Childhood friends and love at first sight for Matt and to realize he was just as shy as Sophie ! And Chris turning out to be a even more dominant alpha! What a fantastic ending!

I've read a lot of shifter books and love how this boxset relates to the shifters and the mates they find. Plus being firefighters puts a more interesting twist to the books. Plenty of love, hope and new beginnings. Plenty of twists and turns, some good and some tragic. But happy endings none the less. I have loved all of the Bearpaw Ridge Firefighters books. While I had read 4 of the 5 books in this set before, I hadn't read Giving Thanks. All of them are awesome. I can't wait for the next book to come out. There are so many of the second generation I need to know about...And of course, what happened to the big yellow victorian house.

A good box set. I enjoyed all of the books except Spark. I am not a fan of threesome no matter how much in love they are. Other than that every other book was had interesting characters and with mystery and intrigue. I wanted to read Inferno and Scorch so I was glad to get them both in a box set. I have read other books by Ophelia so I’m a big fan. Until next time y’all happy reading.
