I Write, Therefore I Am is Alexis' debut collection of poetry. It is a mini collection of poems written over the course of many years. She has written and selected these poems to represent her coming-of-age journey that delves into the emotions behind relationships, heartbreak, love, and growth. These poems are a time capsule of who she used to be and the reason she's the woman she is today.
I Write, Therefore I Am is an emotional rollercoaster in the best of ways. Alexis' collection of poetry in this book takes you on a journey through heartbreak and self-worth that truly tugs at your heartstrings. This mini collection is the perfect size to read in one sitting but you will definitely find yourself coming back to these poems often. Each poem is unique in it's own way but also flows so effortlessly. Overall, I highly recommend checking out this book along with the follow-up, 'I Write, Therefore I Am: exposed'.
I couldn’t really narrow down at first what I was thinking/feeling while reading this book. It was strange. I had to sit in thought a little while re-reading the poems. Then it hit me...
Natural. Pleasant. Important.
These things started to emerge as I re-read those poems. I know a lot of poetry that’s sophisticated, thought-provoking, & has beautiful imagery are the most popular—& I love it too. BUT every now & then, a book or poem comes along & brings me back to what good poetry looks like when it has a simpler style.
Sometimes I get tired of always having to dissect poems to find their deepest meanings. The poems in this book were more straightforward & I think it works so well coupled with Lex’s style! The book took me to a beautiful field of flowers with a summer breeze around me, throwing in a few storm clouds here & there for the times where things like doubt & heartbreak settled into Lex’s life.
I love the connection with cutting off toxicity & strands of hair in “Dead Ends”! “Clarity” is beautiful but my FAVORITE is “Sweet Dreams” because OH MY GOSH THAT’S SO CUTE! (Cue my low-key love for romance🤫)
This was a pleasant read & a great example of a simpler style of poetry done right!
I write, therefore I am by Alexis Mitchell is a beautiful collection of poetry written as a time capsule from teen to young adult. As you would expect, like most of us it contains the story of first love and first heartbreak.
Mitchell takes us through the naivety of that first love and that crushing blow of loss and realisation that what we think is love, isn't always necessarily all it is cracked up to be.
As with all first loves, she wrote her way through it, survived and thrived into better understanding herself and what she wanted from love. This collection is so intimate, we really get to delve into the authors deepest thoughts
My only downfall with this book is it left me wanting so much more, I expect this author will need to write me a follow up book *hint hint, thanks Lexi* for those who love to have their hearts broken and put back together, this one's for you.
A BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION OF POEMS FROM A BEAUTIFUL AND KIND LADY!! A MUST READ!! This Book was gifted to me by lovely Lex, I was so excited when i recieved it along with her second collection. I completed reading this book yesterday and i am so in love with each and every piece by her! The book starts with a poem titled as "A Soulmate" and ends with a poem called "Reminder to Self" and as much as i enjoyed reading all her pieces i couldn't help but re-read and fall in love with the poems called "A soulmate" and "how to Love me".... THEY ARE MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!! I love how her words hit you right in the feels and how beautifully each poem flows!! THANK YOU LEX! i love this book!!
I'm still in awe. I was in a road trip, and stories evolved as they passed me by. "A Soulmate" reminded me of when Alexis talked about stars on an Instagram live, and the metaphors of "Like a Wine Glass" and "Like a Snake" are just chef's kiss!!! My favorites, which I can never choose from, are "Hooked," "Performance," and "How to Love Me" (with ii). Those were what literally made me say "wow" out loud and reread the piece all over again. Everything was just brilliantly delivered and beautiful.
I saw myself in this book too much!! Worth reading
You could tell that she pours herself into her writing, it is real for her and it is evident in every page. The way words fit her and she fits in between them. I mean I’m in awe. If you’re a woman, read this. If you want to understand a woman, read this. It’s worth every second you spend on it
Alexis Mitchell’s writing is authentic and that makes her a poet worth reading. this collection that takes you in her personal journey contains verses that can speak to anyone regardless of where they are in life. I really appreciated the simple way she writes of complex and often tortuous feelings.
A beautiful collection of poetry. A few of my favourites are; Manipulation, Like a wine glass and Electricity. If you enjoy love and romance poetry I highly recommend this book to you. Alexis is a very talented writer and I cannot wait to read her future books.
I loved Alexis Mitchell's book 'I Write, Therefore I am'. A beautiful and soulful collection that I will always cherish. I was so hooked I read it all in one sitting! Lex is a talented artist and a very sweet soul, I am so glad I met her in the IG writing community.
A poet She feeds her soul with the aesthetic use of language. She admires the way letters construct words with careful placement. That is why she lends her pen to the emotions rooted inside her, spilling her truths on paper. - Alexis Mitchell
This bundle was created and gifted to me by my dear friend Lex. This poetry book describes her emotional journey through the pages of her journal throughout the years. This journey commences with heartbreak, hurt and loss and gradually, page by page, develops into her finding (self)love and, most importantly, herself. If you're looking for a raw, pure and honest work of art, this is it. I find myself gravitating towards this book when I feel a little lost or find myself without inspiration, to just recharge myself with whatever I need at that time. Lastly, I just want to say that I'm beyond proud of the author <3.
