The title drew me in. I made a promise to read Mallory Monroe's Books. I love Mafia influenced books. I fell in love with Janet, how she grew her strength and grit. I also fell in love with Richard, how he grew up and insisted that anyone who met Janet would respect her or else. Their chemistry was spontaneous. I loved his and Janet's loyalty to one another. As giving as Richard was, he could be ruthless and merciless when it came to his lady, Janet. Even against his trifling dad. Janet became Mama Bear when defending Richard. I will continue to read her books. She's an awesome Storyteller!!😍😍
Ah what can I say except what an excellent Christmas present from one of my favourite author's. Could not put this book down, loved it. Ah such loveable characters, would be nice to read Month's story. Loved the nod to Reese and I would have loved another book please 😊
This book cannot end like this! There must be more to come. I want to know it Monty, and Spencer, Richard's brothers, gets their happily everafter too. This was an amazing story about Janet and Richard. What a rollercoaster ride?!!! Richard is such a sweet tiger. What a man he is. Sure knows how to handle his business. Janet, reminds me of myself. So many putting her down trying to make her feel like shove was less than. I love the fact that she has such a big kind heart and Richard saw right through it and love her with so much force. I love this story, and I want more!!!😄🔥💟
This was such a great story! I hope that this becomes a new series because I would like to hear about Richard's brothers and their love lives in other books, too! I like that Mallory adds characters from her other series (Trevor Reese and his wife, Carly Sinatra - Big Daddy's daughter) and his connection with Richard Shetfield and his family's businesses. Anyway, this story reminds me of Alex and Kari Drakos and how Kari had to deal with hatred from her home town when she was involved with Alex. I love this relationship with Janet Evans and Richard Shetfield. And, the comedy from her foster Dad, Mo! That man had me in stitches with the dialog between him and Janet! It was great! I love that Mallory Monroe brings action, drama as well as comedy in her stories! This is a must read!
My heart just went out to Janet, PJ, Plain Jane, horse face, shovel face, sh!t face Evans. She was bullied, abused, ignored, disrespected, and passed over. It was bad enough she was an orphan from birth and was taken from the only good Foster family she knew and handed to an awful family that made her a slave for twelve miserable years. Janet got out of there the day she turned eighteen and never looked back. When she literally was knocked down by Richard Shetfield, she could not explain the feelings she had for him and neither did he. She could see his goodness and the sadness in his eyes. She was not his usual attraction and that was for gorgeous women, and he had plenty of women. He always hit it and ran and was definitely a commitment-phobe. But he couldn't explain to himself why he was so attracted to her. He finally figured out that is it was her innocence, her integrity, her innate goodness. Through all that she'd been through, she kept her humanity and goodness.de no excuses for herself. She deserved someone better than him, he was not a good man. So he did what he always did, hit it and run. It was for the best. He was not good enough for her. In doing so, he robbed Janet of not only her maidenhood but her integrity and reputation as well.
Six years later when they ran into each other again, it was like they had never been apart. But this time, Janet was ready to guard her heart. Richard was tire of one-night stands and was tired of being lonely. He was tired of the gold-digging hoes who could care less about him but only what he could give them. He now knew that Janet was "THE ONE." But, when stuff started to happen that threatened both of them, he vowed, she will not be disrespected again and to protect her, even from his family. Janet was beginning to wonder whom she hooked her wagon to when she witnessed what he would do to protect her. She asked him outright, "What kind of family is the Shetfield family?" His reply was a truthful as it could be. "We are businessmen when you leave us alone and thugs when you don't!" That was enough for Janet because Richard was the only man to ever show her love and respect and protected her. If it was not for him, she would be dead. If not Richard who? If not now when?
Mallory always writes romance stories with lots of action and mystery. I can never figure out "who done it" with her books and she did not disappoint in this one. I just love this couple and how Mallory made me fall in love with them. Richard is a vulnerable man's man who was afraid to have his heartbroken, and Janet was the woman who tempered him and gave him everything he needed in a woman. I can see Mallory write a series about the Shetfield men. Montgomery would definitely be interesting and Spencer has to heal from his heartache and I can see another woman doing that for him. I would love to read more about these men and the women who will capture their hearts.
I must said it never took me that long to read Ms. Monroe, but I been busy with the holidays. I like the book very much, it’s sad what happen to spencer. Poor Spencer, I feel for him. I do not trust Fred, he seems like a snake. Mo, is a riot. So glad Janet, reconnected with him again after all those years. Some reviews compared Richard to Mick the tick but I don’t see the comparison. If anything Monty, seems more like Mick. Richard, is his own person. I’m glad I finish the book before Christmas. The book was enjoyable.
The book was entertaining however the romance aspect was too fast for me. We had to wait basically half the book for them to reconnect and within a week they were getting married? I was disappointed in the ending. Their relationship didn’t really develop? How did she adapt to his lifestyle? Is she going to be a stay at home mom in waiting now? I enjoyed the suspense aspect of it and was disappointed in Spencer’s girlfriend death. I hope it doesn’t open the gate for another black lady. I love interracial relationships but they don’t need to be all in the same family. It reads forced. Monty’s situation already reads like a fetish.
Superb writing! My heart broke for Janet. I wept for her in her childhood and was angry and tortured for her as an adult. So many times I wished that I could just reach out and hug her. Her story pulled on my heart strings and would not let go. Richard, in his own way, experienced emotional abuse growing up that left lasting scars. Surprisingly, they ended up being the answer to the other’s prayers. Beautifully written. I highly recommend...despite the strange book cover.
This story was different than most of Ms. Monroe's stories. But this was also realistic. Not always do the bad guys "get it". Sometimes the good guys do to. Great job!!
Different but good. I enjoyed Janet and Richard's story. It was well told and Janet was truly a diamond who was always treated like a rock. Her heart was big and spirit was never broken. She was a survivor. I hope we get more of Richard and Janet. I highly recommend this book.
I loved Richard and Janet. Can’t wait to read what’s next in their story and see how the author intertwine their story with the rest of the gangsters. Great book
This was a good book more than I expected. I miss Mick the Tick but the adrenaline rush was present in this book as well. I can relate with Janet being mistaken as also. I fine being what some call a plain Jane as one of adventure and challenge. Why be a carbon copy? Great job Mallory, definitely a book not to miss!
A wonderful read by a great author which has you routing for a couple who deserve nothing but happiness with a little dash of suspense to keep you hooked to the last written word.
Mallory this book was so good and very emotional little Janet went through a lot in life like she was an ugly duckling that couldn’t Get anyone to love her the way she deserve to be loved as a child and growing up just imagine in life when no one treats you like you’re a nobody like you were alien because you’re not pretty enough.Richard was a white guy came in and swept her off her feet he knew she was a good woman deep down and he made the right decision to make it right it may hurt his wife I’m happy for the both of them. In life we all went through Insecurities one way or another about ourselves. We as queens, are all pretty in our own unique way . A way to a good man’s heart is being a woman to have a good heart and soul. a man a real man Really truly wants love in his life permanently, will look at a woman’s heart first instead of her outside of her appearance.God is love and love has no color.
Enjoyed the storyline, the h went through quite a bit in life but didn’t let that stop her, she was a bit mousy yet strong in her own way. The main reason for the 3 stars was because of the sex scenes, they were a bit cringe worthy. Calling it banging, and the use of penis and vagina in steamy scenes. There are so many other words to use that sound a lot more erotic than penis and vagina, but that’s just my personal preference.
“And then he began to bang. But when he was on the other side, and was banging the crap out of her”
I hope there will be other books for the brothers, I’m very curious about Spencer and Monty’s future! And hopefully some sneak peeks at Richard and Janets life together.
This has become one of my favs. I love me some Richard and Janet. Richard was more then I bargain for. I had Richard pegged as this rich spoiled boy but he is stone cold gangster. He earn my props when he beat his father for disrespecting Janet. In addition to that there was his edginess. Who puts a screen in their accounts eye for stealing money? Them Sheffield boys are wild.
As for Janet I took delight that she got her happy ending. All her life she was made to feel inadequate. Richard fought for her. He knew he had a good woman. I hope this becomes a series. I like his brothers, Spence and Monty. I would love to read their stories.
Yeah... I couldn't put it down. I got upset when my daughter phoned me using me to have to pause. It took 30 long minutes to end the call.
Janet Evans learned to adapt from the tender age of six. Imagine that! To learn how to survive in untenable circumstances as a baby. Her relatives should have been handled. The state should read this "experience" to determine that love isn't always a blood relative.
Richard is the man you want, because once he commits he's all in. He would not allow any disrespect towards Janet. No, Sirree!
I have my fingers crossed praying that Mallory does the right thing and write a few more stories for this pair.
A Very Good and Suspenseful Interracial Romantic Thriller
Plain Jane Evans and the Billionaire is a very good and suspenseful interracial romantic thriller that earned a rating of five stars. I very much enjoyed reading Richard's and Janet's love story and found it to be thrilling and inspirational as Janet rose above her harsh life to be a sweet and caring person. Richard proved how much he loved her by protecting her and fighting for her life in order to find their happiness. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading very good romantic thrillers.
I was so happy to see a book that wasn't about a Gabrini or a Sinatra, that I had high hopes. But I didn't believe this love at first sight at face value. I love this author but I don't want another cookie cutter romance that is inferior and not worthy of her talent.
If there is an inevitable sequel to this book, I won't be buying it.
What an awesome story. I have a new book boyfriend. Lol. Love Richard and his brothers. Carter is my last name and I love it. I can't wait until the next adventure with Richard , Janet and his brothers. Thank you for another good read. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I will be stalking Amazon for your next book. 😍😍😍😍😍
I like Janet. She is the nicest person the world and she was boring. Richard. My man. Mo. He's the one. Monty and Spencer what a dream. Their personalities made the book enjoyable. Mallory has the making of a series. Oh. Yah! Fred and Carter, the parents, in the mix. Oh. The stories that could be told. Great job. Mallory, my imagination is spinning.
I love a rags to riches story. Liked Janet instantly. In spite of her circumstances, she remained humble and loyal. I wanted her to get back at the Hensleys, but that did not happen -- too bad. There was lots of action and mystery to keep me entertained. A good read!
I enjoy reading this book. It is fast paced, a real pages turner, sizzling hot lovemaking and strong yet vulnerable characters who will make you laugh and cry. The writing flows easily and effortless and the good ones finish first. You will not be disappointed by selecting this book.
What I like about the story was Janet finally found a life and to save from all the hurt the. Child abuse if only all children could be saved. I didn't care for all the killing, but I have come to realize that's part of our world Now,I don't like it.God intended man kind to be fruitful, have knowledge to decerned Right and wrong.
This is my first time reading this author and I was pleasantly surprised. Great plot and the characters were different. Richard didn’t ever fall deeply in love but it was okay. No one said they loved one another and that is unusual in a romance novel.
This is a good Mallory Monroe! I good have read 600 pages of this one. You can write a 800 page book and I would read it! I gave 4 star s only because I wanted to Janet get in someone's ass and Richard to gravel more. All in all...a good book!
Something a little different, but I love the story line, about you don't away have to be pretty to get the man. Can't wait to read the next book about Richard and Janet and funny Mo.
