She must unlock the secrets of her past life—before her future is written for her.
When cyborg Treeka wakes from an interrupted cryogenic sleep in a genetics lab, she does so in a brave new world, one where immortality is no longer a concept but a construction. Now, the consciousness of a person can live on in a body that can outperform the limits of human ability.
This “miracle” soon becomes personal to Treeka: she was once a living woman, and someone has brought her mind back from the dead.
As memories of her past life resurface, Treeka realizes she has a sister, put into stasis just like she was. At the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Ash, the ambitious designer of the cyborgs, Treeka sets out to retrieve the genetic material needed to revive her twin.
But the more she has to fight her programmed instincts as a cyborg, the less she trusts the motivations of her creator. Treeka has to discover the true plans behind her creation before control over her and other bionic experiments falls into the wrong hands—or risk losing what it means to be human.

Synapse of Ash (Cyber Hunter Origins #1) by D.B. Goodin I liked the blurb so I bought the series while it was under a buck a piece on Chirp. I was hoping I would really like them. I did like the premise but it didn't come across well polished at all. The twins were teens and talk about childish behavior! One teen was above and beyond normal teen angst! The book ended in a cliffhanger and for me that is a star point off. I hate cliffhangers! I will try the next book since I bought it. I hope it's better. The narration was fair.
This book was boring and POORLY written. All it takes is a little effort to not make the writing so repetitive. That effort was NOT made for this book. Wow - it was bad. It's made worse on audio because when you read physical books, you can just skip over words and still get the story. You can't do that when it's audio and it makes it more glaring.
The whole thing was bad, but this was the worst - I mean, come on. Really? This was 4 consecutive sentences half way through the story.
"[The man] groaned as Treeka pulled the rope. His arms strained as Treeka pulled. She could see his muscles straining to keep up with her pulls. Treeka pulled hard."
An entertaining anime-esque book about a lovely Japanese teenager, Treeka, who gets in an "accident" with her sister and wakes up turned into a sexy cyborg with amnesia. She's then recruited to be an assassin by an AI. It's got some dark elements but is so over-the-top its fun in its premise and reminds me a bit of GUNSLINGER GIRL meets the DIRTY PAIR. It has its flaws, Treeka seems more concerned about being used as a sexbot than the fact she's been conscripted into being a slave assassin in the first place, but I had a lot o fun with it. Plus, I'll give a lot of leeway to any books that has electric haired cyborg assassin gals.
The Synapse of Ash had me from the opening lines. It's a richly imagined thriller with twists and turns in every scene. It's a page-turner. It's sexy, deadly, and thrilling. Issues of identity are at the book's core but this is a fast-paced thriller that will leave you wanting more. I'd write more but I don't want to spoil the surprises. Bravo to D.B. Goodin, this is a thriller masterpiece and an electrifying read.
Unpredictable and interesting! A quick and entertaining read with captivating characters. The futuristic setting and action filled plot make for an entertaining adventure
Super fun book. Keeps you interested through out. Just finished this and I am super pumped to pick up Book 2 ‘Echoes of Silence’. This author will be an automatic buy for me in the future.
This is the first book in a series, A quick read that introduces some interesting characters and situations, and begins to help us get our bearings in this world, but stops short of providing a satisfying conclusion... instead I found myself dangling off a cliff and debating if I'll continue with this series in Kindle Unlimited.
This book/novella presents a lot of questions, and no answers to speak of, presented through the eyes of Treeka, new to this world, uncertain who to trust, and leaving me prepared to expect betrayal, or at least disappointment, on all sides.
If you enjoy brain teasers, questions about what makes life and where the line is between living being and machine, this might be a truly fascinating read... but I needed a bit more to hold onto... for me its saving grace is twofold, the next story is already available, and is in Kindle Unlimited should I choose to read more.
A simple cyberpunk thriller with familiar tropes. I enjoyed the story to see how far it will go. It has good action scenes, a mystery, and a shocking twist at the end. However, the book raises a lot of questions that makes me want to learn more and the fate of the character. But as part of a serial series, I have to get the next book. Overall, if you like stories like Ghost in the Shell and Bladerunner, you might enjoy this series. If not, there are unique ones out there.
Full of hits, intrigue and likable characters the story keeps moving forward with a good mix of action and suspense. The characters backstory is full of interesting situations allowing the reader to see the motivation propelling the main character towards her goal.
Interesting beginning to a new action series. Meeka and Treeka are cyborgs trained for an assignment that I will be following in the cliffhanger adventures.
The writing was extremely simplistic and in need of a good editor. It's an easy ready because there is no meat to the characters. I don't think I will be reading the other books in this saga.
