A horse-whispering loner
After years as an Army Ranger, Sebastian Donnelly is content to be left alone with his horses. He's better with them than with...people. But that changes when his boss's little sister shows up. There's something about her, a vulnerability that tugs at his need to rescue. And a sexy, vivacious charm that ignites an attraction he ought to ignore.

A soon-to-be lawyer
Desperate for a break before her last semester of law school, Laurel Maxwell is excited to see her brother marry the woman he loves. Logan and Athena, their happiness, the life they're building at the farm all serve as a reminder that she's barreling toward a future she's no longer sure she wants. One her overbearing father insists is the only path she's meant for.

Who's rescuing who?
When Laurel is offered the chance to stay on the farm and dogsit while the happy couple honeymoons, she jumps at the chance to get out her life and into Sebastian's strong arms. He wants to help her make her decision, a choice with haunting echoes of his own past. But is there any path that leads to a forever where a brilliant lawyer and reclusive horse trainer could build a life together?

Finally, a friend’s little sister story where the big drama isn’t “he’ll kill me when he finds out I’m with his sister”!!! And I really liked this one - the heroine was smart and determined and didn’t fly off the handle when the hero was a butthead. And the hero, who has a little bit of baggage from his childhood, makes a bit of a misstep but pulls his head out his butt quickly after a good talking to by his best friend.

This is the Kait Nolan I love. Big cast of friends who are more like family, realistic challenges between the couple, and no silly non-communication drama. I’m almost through all of Ms. Nolan’s books and I don’t know who I’ll turn to when I need a good, solid small town story.

This was my first read of a Kait Nolan story which I downloaded on the recommendation of Mr. Romance of Pippa Grant fame. As far as contemporary romance stories go it was very good. This is the story of Sebastian an ex-Army Ranger who now works with abused horses on a farm run by his friend Logan, and Laurel, Logan’s younger sister who is in her final year of law school. Although this book can easily be read as a standalone it is part of a series which is connected with other series. So for a reader like myself, having not read any of the other books I felt like the new kid in class not having a clue as to the back stories of the other secondary characters.
Sebastian spent eight years in the Army before taking an honorable discharge after becoming disenchanted with the Army life. He’s not a real people person and is most content when he’s rehabilitating his horses. Laurel is a bundle of nerves as she approaches her final semester of law school at Vanderbilt where she is in the top one percent of her class. She began law school to earn the attention and approval of her father, a high powered attorney only to discover now that she’s almost ready to enter the working world that she really doesn’t want to be a lawyer. Sebastian has developed a Zen like presence in order to work with skittish horses and his calm demeanor has the same calming effect on Laurel. Plus it’s lust at first sight the minute these two lay eyes on one another. Laurel who hasn’t done anything but focus on school for the past couple of years wants to have a fling with Sebastian while she’s in town for her brother’s wedding. But Sebastian is hesitant to get involved with his boss and friend’s baby sister. Eventually Laurel’s personality and beauty wear Sebastian’s resistance down and they begin a sexual relationship which grows into so much more as Sebastian helps Laurel find the courage to acknowledge she doesn’t want to be an attorney and look for some other career path with which to use her law degree. The course of true love never runs straight or we wouldn’t have a story. But watching our couple navigate the obstacles in their path did make for an enjoyable story. Romance, R-rated sexual situations, family conflict and some physical drama.

This is Classic Cluelessness at its best.

I love clueless heroes. Always have and always will. Of course I like dominant heroes, and tall heroes and short heroes ... well you get the drift. In this case, this was yet another Kait Nolan book that I picked up because I keep liking the way she writes.

This book was well written, it flowed very smoothly through the book, but Sebastian and Laural? They caught my heart and held it. I'm not even sure what to say about them that would urge other people to read this book. I can say that they entertained me throughout the entire story. I enjoyed the back and forth, not just with the two of them, but from the other couples of the "Misfit Inn" series.

If you haven't read this, you should. If you like romances that hit your heart in just the right places, this is the book for you!

Audio-Amy McFadden. I loved Sebastian and Laurel. His stoic grumpy to her quick wit and outspoken self. It was chemical bliss from the first touch. They both had things to work through and there was miscommunication and assumptions that caused tragedy to strike. However, love prevailed. Such a great read.

Sebastian Donnelly is content working with his rescue horses but then his boss's sister Laurel comes to attend Logan and Athena's wedding. She is not happy in law school but isn't sure what she wants to do, she just knows what she doesn't want to be.

Kait Nolan, ‘What I Like About You’: a Rescue my Heart novel.

As an ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.

Rating: 4,5 stars (of 5).

In general: ex Ranger and talented lawyer find love.

Leading characters:
- Sebastian Donelly.
He’s an ex Ranger. After leaving the Army a few years ago with a broken spirit he had some jobs which couldn’t hold his interest because he kept feeling useless. But with the help of Logan Maxwell (organic farmer and a friend of a friend) he became a talented ‘horse whisperer’ in Eden’s Ridge, Tenessee saving neglected horses.

- Laurel Maxwell.
She’s Logan’s intelligent ‘little’ sister. In a few months she will complete her law study in Nashville and she already had a generous offer for a job with a prestigious law firm in that city. But is that what she really wants?

Laurel and Sebastian meet as bridesmaid and groomsman at the rehearsal of Logan’s (and Athena’s) wedding. And there’s a lot of mutual attraction. But they have to overcome many hurdles before the HEA.
The author, Kait Nolan, specialized in charming, sweet small southern towns romances did it again. Wonderful, credible characters; sweet love scenes; nice descriptions of living on a horse farm surrounded by a beautiful nature and intriguing family relationships make the book an easy to read page turner. Not a very original plot, but for me a pleasure to read.

I so love this series! I was so glad to catch up with people from past books. Luckily Sebastian had to step in for one of the groomsmen for Laurel’s brother’s wedding. Sebastian was exactly what Laurel needed. Laurel was so uptight and had been so concentrated on finishing law school, she never had time for herself. It is nice seeing a smart and sexy woman in a book. I think it is so great how the military guys stay good friends and help each other after they get out. I felt bad that Sebastian had felt everyone leaves him. I didn’t like Laurel’s father at first. Ms. Nolan does a great job of pulling me into the story where I am part of the story. I didn’t want to put the book down once I started. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

Sebastian the rescue horse whisperer avoiding the world never expects to meet his match in the form of a studious future lawyer that comes to visit. Laurel has come for her brothers wedding but also to escape her real life and decisions that need to be made for her future. The last thing she expects is to feel instant sparks the moment she meets Sebastian.

I nice love story with a bit of sizzle.

Other than his brothers in arms, Army veteran Sebastian doesn’t believe people will choose him when confronted with an option to stay in his life or go. He expects to be disappointed and abandoned, and it’s made him into a broody loner.

Laurel, in town for her brother’s wedding, has one semester left before graduating from Vanderbilt law school. She’s got an impressive job offer, but she’s burnt out and questioning if being a corporate lawyer like her father has been pushing for is what she truly wants. It isn’t until she meets Sebastian, a groomsman in the wedding and horse trainer on her brother’s farm, that she starts to figure out what would ultimately make her happy. He soothes her and helps her see more clearly. She breaks through his tough exterior to help him see he deserves more than he allows himself to have.

Their connection is immediate, and while she’s not afraid to act on it, Sebastian takes some convincing. At first, she’s just looking to let loose and enjoy this beautiful man and the countryside she didn’t realize she’d missed. That’s all she wants until being with him opens her eyes and heart. When Sebastian decides to give her what she wants, knowing she will eventually leave, magic happens. But it also exacerbates his abandonment fears. How could he let her go when she’s stolen the heart he didn’t know he still had?

I won’t spoil it, but I love what they accomplish together. It’s perfect for the dreams they had as individuals and eventually as a couple. It is so beautiful, as true love always is. This has a gooey sweet HEA, fitting to this gooey sweet couple. Love it!

This was another audiobook with the same narrator as the last two Kait Nolan books I’ve listened to, and it did not disappoint.

Finding love and a purpose

I loved, loved Sebastian and Laurel’s swoony and heartwarming story. Kait Nolan does small town, lovable and relatable characters in emotion rich romances to perfection. I was feeling all the things with this one - laughing, crying, swooning, gritting my teeth, rolling my eyes, gasping, and cheering. Sebastian, a former Army Ranger now runs an equine rescue program along with giving riding lessons in small town Eden’s Ridge. The horses help calm his demons and give him purpose. Laurel is in her last year of law school with a job offer from a prestigious NYC firm. Her life has been planned out based on her high society demanding parents but she’s not sure she wants that life. Sebastian and Laurel meet in Eden’s Ridge as part of her brother’s bridal party. There is instant chemistry and attraction that only gets more complicated when Lauren decides to stay for a few weeks. The path to get to their HEA will need to include baggage unpacking, truth telling, and new life path imagining and it is a beautiful journey to witness. The story included all the sweet moments, spicy scenes, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, choices, and most of all, huge amounts of the heart squeezing love. I am loving this series about the bruised but not broken military guys.

A true Leap of Faith

I'm a big, big fan of Kait Nolan and I absolutely loved this book.

It's not unusual in this day and age to have well-to-do families wanting the best for their children but they aren't always used to their kids speaking their own mind. I love how this story came out and I look forward to the rest of the series.

I included in my notes some of the quotes mentioned throughout the book:

"You made the choice to step on that path. You can make the choice to step off of it."

"Did you ever stop to think that maybe you won't be able to see that other way until you take everything else out of the equitation?"

From Henry David Thoreau: 'If you have built castles in the air, your work needs to be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.'

My next book to read:
When You Got A Good Thing: A Small-Town Family Romance (The Misfit Inn Book 1) Happy reading!

✨ 4 stars
✨ content warnings: serious horseback injury
✨ tl;dr: adorable like at first meeting romance between a high power high anxiety law student and her brother's horse manager (not a euphemism)
✨ liked:
- loveeeee laurel love her so much
- sebastian understood his problems and was quick to rectify his mistakes which I also loved
- huge fan of how sebastian working for her brother and his "honor" was not a part of the plot whatsoever
- the conflict was real world but didn't last weirdly long
✨ less into:
- I can't say anything really other than I wish it was a smidge longer so there was more time for even more character development. loved how straightforward their romance was but it was quick

I really enjoyed this love story of Laurel & Sebastian. I love Kait’s style of writing, there is always a lot of depth to her stories. I also love reading series, having characters from other books visit each other, it feels like one big happy family. And as part of that family, I think it’s awesome the way they will advise the main characters, talk out the problems until they see what they need to work on. Because we all know, you can’t see your nose in front of your face. I'm really looking forward to the next in the series.

Opposites do attract!

Laurel is in her last year of law school at Vanderbilt, but battling her attorney father's expectations, she realizes she doesn't really want to be a lawyer. Sebastian is a retired Army Ranger who wants to work with rescue horses. Can they mesh their lives together?

It's a heartwarming journey, that pulls on the heartstrings, as each of them overcome their own personal obstacles. With Kait's wonderful writing and Amy McFadden's terrific narration, I can't help but love this book. I just love this duo!!!

The pressure is sometimes too much!

Loved reading this book! The main characters and their back stories. Laurel, with the pressure, her father and she put on herself to succeed as a lawyer. Looking deep and realizing what you planned for is not what you want after all. Sebastian gets out of the Army, thinking that he "is never enough " by helping others, listening, and being the calm presence for the horses, and Laurel. Misunderstandings occur, but love holds tight. Enjoy reading this well-written book. 🎉📚❤️🌻

Laurel and Sebastian

Laurel had come for her brothers wedding. But decided to stay longer trying to sort out what she wanted to do. In a no month she would have a law degree. Something that was her dad's dream not hers. Sebastian her brother's friend that got her in more ways than one. Sebastian knew she was trouble. He had been staying away from relationships that could cause him pain. How did she slip in?
A great story with characters that you care about.

Notes: I wanted to read this book because I had read the first one in the series "Baby, it's cold outside" because I loved that book. However, I was not as impressed with this book as I was the first one. This book was lacking tension and spicy scenes, it focused more on the problems of the potential lovers. It wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't horrible either.

This was a good read! It has substance, romance, just enough drama, great characters and a good storyline. Sebastian and Laurel are fire from the start. I loved their connection and it just got better throughout the story.

This is a standalone story, but I will say that the secondary characters play a pretty good role throughout. I did get lost at times putting who was who together, but I still enjoyed this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

How many of us have felt overwhelming pressure to do more of something we thought (possibly years prior!) we wanted to do, but as time passed we realize it’s not what we’re destined to do?
I loved this story because honestly, who wouldn’t want a Sebastian in their life?
So dive in and enjoy!!!

Another amazing read by Kait Nolan! Sebastian and Laurel are so perfectly flawed that they manage to fit perfectly together. Laurel's struggle with living her own life instead of the life she is expected to lead resonates deeply with me. And there is nothing like the woman you want being the little sister of your friend to add a little extra tension to the situation.

Loved this book.

I was hooked from page one. Loved the chemistry between Lauren and Sebastian. She’s conflicted about her plans and he’s helped her. She changes her goals but will her Dad understand? I felt emotional with this book too. Had some happy tears in their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book.

Loved it

I don't give very many 4s, but this one deserves it. Just lovely characters and overall story. These two so in need of what the other offered for a happy future. Both of their parents had let them down in terms of support. Now they had a chance together, if pride and her father didn't get in the way. This is a really good author

Sebastian and Laurels story is sweet and spicy as they each do battle with their own anxieties. Laurel battles parental expectations but finds solice and understanding with Sebastion and his rescue horses. Sebastian has his demons from his time as a Ranger in the Armed Forces and found healing with his rescue horses but can he trust that Laurel won't leave him. I enjoyed this book.

A beautifully written love story. Sebastian was not planning of falling for his boss's little sister. Laurel had her life all planned out but as she gets closer to finishing law school she is less and less sure that she wants to be a lawyer. These two are total opposites but they make a perfect pair.
