R. Weir’s The Divine Devils features a new hero, Hunter Divine. He is so different from Mr. Weir’s Jarvis Mann, and the writing style is different as well. Mr. Weir’s talent is evident in his ability to change up the genre and style of his stories.
Hunter Divine is cool and successful. Hunter is confident, he gets the ladies, and he gets his perp. I loved that Hunter Divine’s team is multi-racial and multi-gender. Mr. Weir uses an interesting layout to introduce his characters and give his readers the characters’ backstory.
The plot is complex and involved. The characters and their motives are interesting. The pace of the story is intense from start to finish. There is no shortage of action in this book! Mr. Weir provides ample descriptive detail so that I felt that I was present with the characters. The Divine Devils was easy to get lost in. I am hoping to get more of Hunter Divine!

This is in need of a makeover. It's a rough read without flow, cadence or cohesiveness. The phrasing is immature, as are the many juvenile sexual references. I had so many issues with this one.

I loved this book. This is an author I never hesitate to pick and have read everyone's books. They just keep getting better and better with each one. This is one of my favorites yet by him. This is a well developed story that pulled me in from the beginning. It is a fast paced thriller that I found to be engaging. The twists and turns kept me turning pages just waiting to see what would happen next. This is a story about The Divine Devils who will stop at nothing to protect these children. What will happen when two teenagers are in trouble and they could be kidnapped? I love what they bring to the story and how relatable they are. They brought the story to life on each page. It is worth the pick up. I highly recommend this book.

I feel like this should be a show or movie!
There are so many twists and turns but so captivating! You wouldn't think the people that make up this team is actually a team but they work so well together! Hunter Divine was a US Marshal but he was let go and he's been on a downward spiral ever since. When he's called in for personal security on a wealthy family, the plot is only starting!
I love that there are past experiences and how the team met one another! I definitely recommend!

This wasn't the best book I’ve ever read but it was absorbing enough to reach the end. Checked out with Kindle Unlimited on 10/28/2021 and returned 9/13/2022.

This was my first book by thus author. I was blown away with the fast paced, action-packed adventure of this book. It was well written and easy to follow. I was impressed with the narrator Philip Polite. He was able to voice many accents in both male and female very well. I look forward to the next book.

Oh holy snot. I need more stars. All of them. This book was incredible. I am here, waiting for more!! I haven’t read any other books by this author, but I’m definitely interested now. Great read, it was hard to put away to sleep, and go to work… you know adult things… 🤣🤣

R. Weir masterfully pulls you into The Divine Devils immediately with his rich, easy to understand narrative. Weir’s proficient use of suspense, crime, adventure, and revelation continuously and efficiently builds throughout the story. The plotline is tight and R. Weir keeps you turning the pages. This clever author varies his pace throughout the story by creating a labyrinth of excitement with gruesome, multifaceted villains pulling off crimes you would never expect. As each character is introduced, appropriate backstory is brought into the story—the soul of the narrative. Each character obviously well-thought out and well-developed. Each one possesses characteristics which are strong, complex, and sometimes troubling. Each character is believable, each one engaging even when they only seem to be a minor character in the moment, they all play a significant role which the author, R. Weir so fluently brings together.
The Divine Devils has clever twists and turns and more than just a few surprises. The story’s execution is so well scripted, the reader will feel as though you are watching a movie play out in front of your eyes as R. Weir unveils the unexpected and doesn’t hold back. A definite well written and fully entertaining novel. The Divine Devils—read it!

Weir has done it again!
Weir pens a remarkable story in The Divine Devils. It's different than his usual Jarvis Mann stories, but Weir is still a magnificent story "shower." I have been a fan since I first read one of his books, and anything he writes, I will read. I like how there is the play on words with Hunter Divine's name, and how he is a hunter on the side of divinity, while being on the trail of this remarkably evil antagonist. It's thrilling, and has a lot of chills, as it also has that touch of devilish touches. The story brings in the believable, even if almost impossible. This book deserves a second read! (and maybe more). A very well-written story as always and I definitely enjoyed it. The thrills and intrigue is written clearly and the characterizations are engrossing. The author's technique of intense characters and great plotlines is a gift. It's a great story to follow and try to figure out what will happen next. This author's characters develop and interacts well with the other characters. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author. When I first started reading The Divine Devils, I should've known it was going to be a thrilling ride. R. Weir has an unique gift with his words, and it's so hard to put down one of his books, once I start.
This book in particular, took me on an intense adventure and one that I very much enjoyed. The story is so complex, yet it's easy to follow right along side our hero. There's so much suspense and action, so I thoroughly enjoyed that. The story flows so well and kept me on the edge of my seat.
I highly enjoyed reading this one, not only because of the storyline itself, but because this is a new character. I wasn't sure how I would feel about Hunter, since I love Jarvis, but R. Weir had me hooked from the beginning.
Highly recommend reading this one, as well as checking out R. Weir's other books. I'm never disappointed when I read something from him, and I can't wait to see what he has coming next.

Has potential, deeply flawed.
If this story were a house, A realtor would describe it as having "good bones".
A solid plot (not particularly original but that's no sin), colorful characters and a pace that doesn't drag. More about that in a moment.
Our Hero is an ex-cop who is engaged by an old (and wealthy) flame to provide security for her family.
Her children have suffered a number of kidnap attempts by a shadowy enemy, and she needs a higher caliber of protection.
Our Hero assembles a familiar sounding troop of old friends who all know how to conduct the business at hand.
Evil underworld figures, brutal thugs, and tough, heroic protectors.
Good enough, so far.
Could be a fun read, right?
Well, that depends on you, the reader.
What is you tolerance for:
- Stilted, unrealistic dialog.
So much so that it leads the reader to wonder if English is the author's first language?
(Not a slur, by the way.
Dated, rough or unusual English usage is often encountered in authors who write in languages other than their native one.)
Some of which dialog is so cartoonishly sexist and fratboy-like it makes one cringe?
- Illegal, abusive interrogation techniques - even in the presence of the police?
- A protagonist, whose primary characteristics seem to be severe alcohol abuse, fear of commitment, anger management issues and an almost pathological need to find the next one night stand?
In short, a protagonist who is the least likeable character in the whole book.
- Misused words, clumsy sentence structure and some truly questionable grammar?
As I wrote above, good bones.
A worthy framework upon which to build a solidly written story.
But also a distinct need for an editor, a proofreader, and perhaps some writing classes.

TRIGGER ALERT: Kidnapping, gore, torture.
Hunter Divine is a gun-for-hire after losing his job as a US Marshal over an incident for which he was blamed, which was not his fault, of course. A former flame, Paige, calls for his help b/c her children are being threatened w/ a kidnapping by some unknown person. The action - often gory - starts immediately w/ an attempted kidnapping of the teenagers as they are on their way to school.
This book reads like a stereotypical action movie, where the men are men and the women are glad. The women are all tall and strong, even the teenage daughter. There are plenty of woman-on-woman fight scenes to add to the sense of this novel being a male fantasy. Many of the sentences are only sentence fragments, short and choppy. I don't know if this was the author's writing style, or if the Kindle formatting was just bad. There were a lot of incorrect homophones as well, as spellcheck cannot catch those. Plenty of clothing descriptions added to the above-mentioned issues distracted me from the plot as well.
There are all kinds of plot twists to keep you guessing as to the bad guy behind everything and his motivations, and the ending is can't-put-your-book-down tense. I also liked the diversity of the characters. Therefore, I'm rounding this one up to three stars, even though it would usually not be my cup of tea for reading material.

Hunter Divine is hired by a former girlfriend to protect her children after kidnapping attempts are made. Hunter brings in his team to not only protect the family but to figure out who wants Paige's children and why.
This book is full of intrigue, suspense that had me trying to figure out why someone was trying to get the kids and if they were going to be successful. It is a very intense read. I was completely hooked from page one until the very end.
The each of the characters in the book are complex which really adds depth to the story.
I've been a fan of R. Weir from his first book and each book keeps getting better. This book is my favorite read this year. I consider it a must read. I definitely will be re-reading it. It's not very often when I read the last word that I can say "that is a really good book" but I did say it with this one.

This is one twisty thrilling ride! I loved every second! I never knew what was going to happen next. The story and the characters are both unpredictable. There are many twists and turns that had me going “wait…what just happened?” I could not read this book fast enough. It really drew me in and kept me entertained.
The characters are plentiful but the main ones are Divine and his team. There are also those characters I love to hate. To pick a favorite character is tough. Valerie is cold and calculating but she also embodies strong female. I was impressed with the devotion Lance showed the family. Hunter is a strategically smart guy. I also liked the random “muscle guys” that were in here..they added some comic relief the second time we see them.
I enjoyed this intricate puzzle piece thriller. The author did an outstanding job putting this all together. I really enjoyed the very end of the epilogue. It rounds it all out nicely.
I eagerly look forward to more!

The Divine Devils (The Divine Devils Book 1) by R Weir

Although this was somewhat of a long book and took me some time to complete because life has been crazy and my reading time limited, I absolutely loved every bit of this book!! OMG I felt at times like I was reading a live movie that I was watching and could literally see all of this playing out. I could not get it off my mind when I had to put it down and rushed to pick it back up. The build up of this story was sheer perfection...I normally don't want backgrounds and such but every word and every page was pulling me in more and more as the story progressed. My mind was going every which way through this book trying to figure out who was behind everything going on. I now know how far off base I stayed throughout LOL I have read enough books that now I suspect everyone and in this case I was on the edge of my seat realizing I was completely unaware of what was happening.
I especially loved the characters in this book. Each one with their own story, each one with their own quirks. I loved how they all came together as one and then the added in support just blew me away. I could go on forever talking about each of these people, each one important and all of them I hope to see again in the coming books. I love where this is going, and I have high hopes for this team growing even closer. I was left with questions of one character in particular and have so many ideas about how that could still play out in the future of this series. I hope there is much more to come on that character.
I am so so so excited for this series, I can not wait for the next (and I want one of those t-shirts lol) and although this is only my 2nd book by this author I will be reading anything and everything I can get my hands on.

This book was absolutely amazing! It has to be one of the top books I have read this year, and I did not want it to end. The amount of action, suspense, mystery and intrigue will keep you reading late into the night and on the edge of your bed. Hunter is a former US Marshal who lost his career due to a situation which was no fault of his own, and now he is trying to navigate the next phase of his life with little sense of purpose. When Paige calls upon him to help her with kidnappers who are after her children not once, but twice now he knows he has to do it. This book will keep you guessing each step of the way each chapter gives us intricate plot twists, torture, kidnapping, gore/violence, and even a love spark of old flames. Wine and popcorn are definitely a need for this page turner.

This book kept me on my toes, just when I thought that there couldn’t be more to happen, it would take a turn to something else. The little gleams into the character’s past too was amazing into who and why they were, I really enjoyed that part. Hunter a former US marshal, who does everything in his power to save these teenagers that are trying to be taken by a crazy mad man, that doesn’t care about anything but his own personal gains. The sick twisted way that this mad man was written was so amazing it made me want to hate him, whenever he was in the book. I enjoyed the roles of the women in this book as while, R. Weir wrote these women as kicking butt and then taken names, I loved how they would fight and stand for who and what they wanted. The twists and turns in this book really had me guessing and wondering what could happen now and it was hard to put down.
If a book 2 will be written I will for sure be grabbing it, and if it becomes a movie…….

This has a different feel to it than the Jarvis Mann P.I. series and took me a few chapters to adapt to the new characters. I find this is always the case when starting to read a new series. Characters begin to be developed, backgrounds are explained and storylines emerge. The main character, Hunter Divine, did not immediately grab me. But, as the story unfolded, I couldn’t help but want to know what happened next. Who exactly was trying to kidnap the children and why? It was a well thought out plot and the phrases that spring to mind are “Well I wouldn’t have thought of that reason” and “What a way to put things into action”. Since I am addicted to Jarvis Mann this is a new road for me to take. However, I look forward to seeing how the series develops and perhaps I will have found a new addiction.

When Paige's children are in danger she calls a man from her past. Hunter Divine is moving from job to job thinks this will be just the job he needs. When he arrives he walks right into trouble. As the mystery abductor doesn't give up Hunter's team have their work cut out for them.
As the story progress it will keep you in the dark on who the abductor is and what their agenda is. The characters from the bad to the good are multi dimensional and all interesting and different. When I read suspense/mystery I want to be kept guessing and this book did a great job. The team trying to abduct the children will stop at nothing and this kept the story interesting. A read that is intense, full of action and suspense. I was holding my breath through many of the chapters.
As the story progress it will keep you in the dark on who the abductor is and what their agenda is. The characters from the bad to the good are multi dimensional and all interesting and different. This was a thrilling read that pulled me right in from the beginning. I had a late night with this book since I couldn’t put it down.
Hunter gets involved in a case that dredges up people from his past. What he doesn’t know is that the person has a reason why he is using these specific people. It is someone seeking revenge on Hunter, but why?

We get so much in this read your head will be spinning, danger, mystery and so much more. All of the characters added a great element to the story. We get several twists and turns. I will warn that there are some scenes that may cause triggers for some. I look forward to reading more from this author and series.
Hunter gets involved in a case that dredges up people from his past. What he doesn’t know is that the person has a reason why he is using these specific people. It is someone seeking revenge on Hunter, but why?

I give The Divine Devils: Mystery Suspense Crime Thriller: Book 1 by R. Weir, 5 stars.
I am a huge fan of the Jarvis Mann series by this author and I could not wait to see what this new series had to offer. It is completely different from the Mann series but the author yet again has another hit series on his hands. Less PI and more "do whatever it takes to get the job done," Hunter Devine reminds me of that certain movie character from the 70s. You know, the one that's a bad mother- (shut your mouth!), but brought into a more modern time. I also enjoy that the characters in this book are older, they are experienced and have been molded by their pasts, both good and bad. The team Hunter has is spectacular. I really hope to see them highlighted more in future books.
The story itself is intriguing; dangerous, sad at times, shocking, and keeps you on your toes. You are constantly wondering what will happen next and will they all make it out alive. The author weaves such a wonderful world, taking us many places in the US and beyond. I anxiously await the next book to see what the next adventure is. I hope this series lasts quite a while.

The Divine Devils: Mystery Suspense Crime Thriller: Book 1

This was such a great sit on the edge of my seat kind of story. This book was full of action, suspense, great characters and so much more. Hunter Divine and his team are trying to keep two teenagers safe from being kidnapped after two attempts have already been made. The team is a diverse group of people with all different skill sets. I was trying to figure out who was behind all of it the entire time I was reading but I was nowhere close to figuring it out. The author did a great job keeping me entertained throughout and got me invested in the people and the story. I cannot wait to read what's coming next. I highly recommend this book.

The Divine Devils by R. Weir is the first book I’ve read by this author. First of all, from the beginning of the first chapter it caught my attention. The description of the daily routine for the children and the men protecting and guarding them got my interest. Then learning about Hunter Divine a bit and the reason why he takes a job when a former girlfriend reaches out for help. The next thing that I appreciated was getting the back story on the characters working with Hunter Divine and how each of them met him. What kept me reading to the end was the intrigue, suspense, and wondering who and why these kids are being targeted. I would recommend this book to friends and family in a heartbeat.

I loved this book! The idea is fantastic and the twists and turns kept coming. More importantly, I found an author whose books I will reread and recommend time and time again.
Paige’s two children are in extreme danger. Three attacks on their lives in less than that many weeks. She does the only thing a mother can do call the best person she can to protect them. The problem is, that person is also someone who broke her heart many times over. Hunter Divine answers the call and does all he can to help his past lover. He is living a very sketchy life right now but would do anything for this one that may have gotten away.
The twists and turns kept coming as the book unfurls. What I loved the most was that is was so hard to put down. I am so glad that this is the beginning of a new series and I cannot wait to read the next book.

I loved this book including the beautifully designed cover. You know that it is going to be a good book just from the look of the man on the cover and one that is written by R.Weir. I jumped right in during the holidays and wow I was page turning as the storyline is so good. In fact now I have a new book boyfriend which is, Hunter Divine who is a U.S. Marshal.When the public comes face to face with him you shudder as you know that he is not there to welcome you to the neighborhood he is there for serious business and no matter what way he is going to get it. Randy has hit a grand slam over the fence and Jarvis has caught the ball!

If you like a mystery to solve, this is indeed the book for you. It is full of intense action, unrequited love, good guys, and the worst enemies that one would ever want.
Hunter Divine is a manly man, and every woman who meets him finds him very attractive including three women found in this story. The problem is Hunter does not seem to have a commitment bone in his body. Hunter is a “retired” US Marshall who works from job to job and sleazy hotel to sleazy hotel. He’s at a point in his life where he is tired of his life the way it is.
He doesn’t get much chance to ponder his status after his previous job because one of his former ladies, Paige, calls him in to help her family. Hunter learns that someone is trying to kidnap her children, 18-year-old Olivia and 14-year-old, Deion. Hunter agrees to help and calls in his team to increase the level of security for the whole family.
With each step the team puts into place, it seems that the kidnappers are always one step ahead. Can Hunter and his team keep the teens safe? When will they figure out who is behind this attempt on Paige’s family?

The Divine Devils is one of the most intense and action packed novels I have ever read. While I have never personally read anything from R. Weir, The Divine Devils was such an amazing read that I will not hesitate to pick up more books from this author. This action packed thriller is filled with everything a reader could hope for including several twists and turns, suspense, crime, and above all adventure that will lead his readers a a wild imaginative ride. Mr. Weir’s characters are well developed and immensely relatable, his narrative is easy to understand, and flows beautifully through the story, and his plot line develops wonderfully through the book. So if your looking for a new author this summer, or even just a new book I highly
recommend The Divine Devils by R. Weir.

This book is an awesome start to a new series. My favorite genre is crime/thriller and R Weir has become one of my favorite authors. His stories grab me from the first page until the last word. Every time I thought that I knew what was going to happen, there was a twist that went totally in a different direction. This just made me turn the pages faster and faster. In this story, Hunter Divine is asked by his ex-lover to help her with her twins. They have been targeted to be kidnapped and she wants him to help to keep them safe. He will try to keep them safe, but there is where the problem and the mystery/thriller take off. I highly recommend this story to see what happens in the end.
