Who is He?

Neela doesn't know, not yet, and neither do we, but that is the richness of this tale. Readers meet Neela, a young woman coming of age who is curious, adventurous and trepidatious …all the things most 18 year old's are. She's at that uncertain age where she is discovering herself and the world around her and readers are drawn into her world through her tentative explorations. Tentative, that is, until she meets Cheveyo.

Cheveyo is the epitome of strength, yet he hides secrets Neela cannot force herself to ignore. He is mysterious, possibly dangerous, yet irresistible. He's also drawn to her despite her odd, nearly albino beauty. Perhaps it's her uniqueness he finds so tantalizing... perhaps it's because she's the strength his hidden weakness needs. He's unsure, but cannot stop himself from revealing more than he should to her.

More than he should because a romance between them is forbidden in his world and against all that is thought natural in hers; yet they cannot deny what they feel. This story has a definitive Twilight meets Shape of Water feel to it with it's dominant alpha and dangerously willing submissive players, which may or may not appeal to all readers. The characters were well-drawn, however and relate-able and the tension between Chevayo and Neela was appealing. My only disappointment was the writing, while not terrible by any means, was strongly geared towards Young Adult readership.

An inviting tale of forbidden love that satisfies.

Easy to guess where the book was headed. An easy read and interesting enough but wasn’t as challenging as I had hoped. Should have buried the lead more imo.
