Alice Monroe is a good person who is about to do a very bad thing.

A professional dancer at twenty-four, Alice had worked tirelessly for years to achieve perfection in all areas of her life. She had the perfect boyfriend, the perfect dream job in her pocket, and the unfortunate, naïve belief that perfection was built to last.

All it took was one night to tear down everything Alice had built for herself until she was left single, jobless, and her heart stained with betrayal. With her tail tucked between her legs, she drives to Chicago to move in with her older sister until she's back on her feet.

Little did she know that this was just the beginning of her twist of fate nightmare. Ethan Black is waiting for her in Chicago as a perfect stranger, but soon after he and Alice meet, it's impossible for either of them to deny that they're destined to be much more.

The only problem?

Ethan's engaged to be wed to her sister

Dancing with Sin is so far my favorite Tik Tok find. It’s the first book I have read from this author, and I look forward to future books. . I love thick, complicated, messy books. Oh, messy it is. The book is a little over 600 pages, and I finished it in a day. I was hooked from page one.

This is a story of forbidden love. Someone you know you shouldn't fall in love with. But your heart wants what it wants. I have to say it's a beautiful story.

Alice loses everything overnight, tries to recoup, and get her life back together; Alice moves in with her sister and her fiancée Ethan. The last thing Alice wanted was her heart to start beating again to the one off-limits man, Ethan.

Dancing with Sin is a slow burn. Reading how Alice and Ethan's friendship develops from strangers to friendship to love is beautiful and heartbreaking. You can’t help but to know there is going to be a train wreck. You want to look away, but you do. You want to see it. You need to know how it ends

I loved the writing style, and I felt every single emotion, steam, passion, heartbreak, just to name a few. Have some tissues on hand. I haven’t cried from a book in some time. I highly recommend this book.

Opinion Breakdown
The Good: The premise and promise for angst.

The Not-So-Good: The back and forth, pacing, and POV.

The Bad: The ending. Way too abrupt after committing to over 400 pages.

Overall: I decided to revisit this after it coming up on lists of forbidden romances. I had read the sample and didn't feel it a while ago, but I decided maybe I just wasn't feeling it at the time. It took me pushing through the beginning because the beginning was kind of rough. I felt like it could've been edited as the pacing wasn't great and it was probably too long. I was really frustrated with the ending and the back and forth between the characters (while admittedly understandable) got a little annoying after a while. I think it would've benefited a ton to have the H's POV too. Overall, I'm glad I went back to give it a try because now I know -- I just know it wasn't all that great for me and I should've trusted my 1st impression.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Alice and Ethan's story. Alice has run into some really bad luck and ends up moving in with her sister and her fiancé. Only her sister isn't around much and she forms an unexpected friendship with the fiancé, Ethan. More and more time together causes feelings to be developed. Lines get crossed, secrets are revealed, there are some sexy and sweet scenes, and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This was told in Alice's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Not the best. I feel like this had a rough start. Enough that I didn't get past the sample the first time I tried to read this a while ago. I also felt like the ending was too abrupt and I skimmed the inner dialogue that seemed a little too long at times.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings - more like friends to more.

H (Hero) rating: 3 stars. Ethan. I liked him but I really wanted his POV to get deeper into his character.

h (heroine) rating: 3.5 stars. Alice. I liked her but I also wanted her to stick up for herself a little more.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes, a lot

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Yes

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ends kind of abruptly with what I would call a HFN ending but after more than 400 pages, I was disappointed. I wanted to see their HEA with a jump ahead epilogue or something.

Safety: This one is probably Not Safe for most safety gang readers

I really wanted to love this one, but the writing was just really distracting to me. I love a good angtsy romance and this definitely delivered on that! The heroine moves in with her sister and her fiancé and immediately starts feeling something different for the fiancé. They fall hard and fast, but obviously it's forbidden. I loved the tension between them and was just dying for them to get together already. But for the writing, there were too many times where things went on with descriptions when things just needed to get to the point. I love beautiful and lyrical writing, but the writing in this book just needed to be cut back just a bit for me.

But I did really end up enjoying that story! I do think the epilogue went on too long (it was over 20 pages), but the angst and forbidden nature of the relationship was right up my alley.

Too long but this is not what was bad in this book. The heroine is dumped by her fiance who cheated on her with one of their friends bar colleagues, she leaves town and job and goes to live with her big sister. Andddd guess what. She falls in love with her sister fiance. Bwuahahahahaha! No! Just no! It’s wrong! Even if they don’t have sex until he breaks up with his fiancee, this is all wrong. The sister was kind and wanted to help her, and she repays her stealing her fiance. The author tries to justify the fact that they only were engaged because she had a pregnancy scare and he proposed, but they were not in love. But it’s disgusting that he still slept and had sex with his fiancee while the heroine was in the nearby bedroom. And the heroine is a hypocritical hoe, that rejects the hero when he breaks up with her sister, because it’s not right for them to be together. Well, you could think about it before you kissed and smooched your sisters fiance behind her back, you hoe!
In the end all is well but I didn’t like it, the heroine did to her sister the same thing her ex boyfriend did to her. And the hero is hypocritical sob too, who was jealous of heroine while screwing her sister.
Trigger warning. Sisters sharing penis! Not for me!

Ok... So, usually I like forbidden romance but this just didn't work for me.
The heroine's boyfriend cheats on her with another girl. So she leaves New York and goes running to her sister in Chicago who accepts her wholeheartedly into her home and life. Heroine finds her sister's fiancé handsome and is attracted to him. The H and heroine encourages their mutual attraction and finally he breaks off the engagement to the h's sister. After all hell breaks loose the h breaks off with the H to pacify her sister (eyeroll). They're separated for 10 months before they reunite.
Verdict: I find both the h and the H shallow. Emotional cheating is still cheating. The h is no different from her cheating ex-boyfriend! I did feel bad that she was mistreated by her ex but still she shouldn't have gone for her sister's fiancé (c'mon that lady gave her a roof over her head and trusted her)!

not all heroines can be perfect - I know this
they cant all be Mary Sues - I know and accept this
I like a flawed heroine
I like quirky and unconventional and idiosyncratic, even
but then there's this one here who is just downright mortifying
can she get any weirder, this one?
she's so........what's the word....embarrassing...
the situations she places herself in...why even...?
'struth, she just can't catch a break - its one unfortunate event after the other

I took a chance on debut author Alexandria Lee and I must tell you this book is honestly one of the best stories I've read this year! This novel is told from the heroine Alice Monroe's perspective. I think that brought me even closer to her character and feeling all her feels! Alice finds herself alone, jobless and broken hearted after her long time ex betrays her. Now relocating to live with her older sister Monica and fiance Ethan Black, she has to start her life over. Alice and Ethan spend a lot of time together and gradually a close bond forms. Chemistry and feelings that are completely forbidden are just the start to this couples problems. This can only bring heartache. I completely fell for Ethan's character, he is book boyfriend perfection in my opinion! This book kept me turning pages well in to the night. I highly recommend it to anyone that loves a story full of angst, steam and chemistry galore!! Grab your copy today!!

Wow! What an emotional rollercoaster!

This is my first by this author and it won’t be my last! The writing was very good, characters relatable, story fleshed out well! I honestly couldn’t put it down.

I easily fell in love for the main characters of this story and rooted for them every step of the way! Their banter, their chemistry, their heartache, and their undefinable love was everything. I believed it every step of the way. The forbidden factor just added all the extra angst! I’m so glad I picked this book up!

Deliciously Sinful

Dancing With Sin is one of those books that makes you question your morals. I found myself filled with dread as Alice and Ethan begin to fall in love, and then while caught up in the enthralling rollercoaster, that dread warred with me rooting for them despite the heartbreak everything would cause.

Being inside the mind of a woman who falls in love with a man while constantly battling herself and trying to keep them apart... well, grab your box of tissues and an emotional support animal because you’re going to need them.

A slow burn romance that will twist you up and leave you breathless. 10/10 recommend!

this book definitely ticked some of my pet peeves, but i'm in the mood for raw, emotional books these days. they seem to magically cure my book slump. so even if they stress the life out of me, i push myself to go out of my comfort, safe zone sometimes.

almost 5 stars until the shit hits the fan. some parts are wordy and really slow but what left me unsatisfied was how the story played out when the affair was exposed. sure there were some crying, screaming, anger. but once they all calmed down, i wanted to see how alice will handle her broken relationship with her sister, a sister who supported and loved her, and yet, got cheated on. i mean, not just her half attempt of an apology, call and text spam and a letter that monica torn unread anyway. yes alice was flighty, but for once i really really wanted to see her suck it up, face her parents and sister, lay her heart bare, humble herself and give them the honest truth. the christmas holiday would have been the opportunity for it. instead, monica called alice on midnight of new year. had a bit of heart to heart talk and cleared some air. same call where monica told alice that she and ethan had a little talk. which was another issue for me. i did not witness the whole monica-ethan talk, if it was even a whole talk. their relationship was the biggest hurdle of alice-ethan. there was no love lost for them but still, they cared for each other and lived together as lovers. ethan's pov for that talk would have been nice. if monica was an evil witch, i wouldn't care. but she was actually a good person, just too busy with her career. it felt rushed, with more telling than showing. well, good thing monica was not one to hold grudge, i guess.

anyway, alice and ethan are soulmates, not a single doubt about it. their love is deep and i felt it. especially ethan. alice is lucky to be loved by ethan.

for relationships that start on the negative side like cheating, for me, i prefer a jump ahead epilogue (few years) to know that they made it that far even after the rough start, guilt and mistakes. just imo.

descriptive sex are between h and H only.

Absolutely hated this book. The gist of the book is that Alice comes to stay with her sister Monica and her fiancé Ethan after her boyfriend cheats on her. Over a period of time Alice and Ethan are attracted to each other and fall in love. Ethan finally breaks up with Monica a month before their wedding. I hated both Alice and Ethan’s characters. Ethan should have done the decent thing and broken up with Monica much before he could even consider pursuing her sister. Alice was acting like a victim throughout because her boyfriend cheats on her while she does the exact same thing to her sister after her sister was kind enough to let her live under her roof after her breakup. How could she put her sister through the same heartbreak she went through herself. This book made me so angry. Alice goes on about how she had no choice about falling for Ethan and there were cheesy lines about how her tears were like petals flowing on her cheeks. She’s always whining or crying without doing anything. She thinks about sacrificing her love for Ethan for her sister. While he was not hers to begin with. Not once does she think about her sister or the implications of her actions. She has no remorse for her actions. She is only thinking about how her relationship with Ethan is doomed. I feel sorry for Monica having to deal with this lying, cheating bitch as a sister. I believe that we all have choices and we have to be ready to face the consequences of our actions instead of blaming circumstances. I thought that Ethan and Alice were both selfish and terrible people and maybe deserve each other. I don’t understand how so many people gave this plot five stars. Read 3/4 of the book and couldn’t take it anymore.

Alice’s last relationship left her wounded and she was still trying to recoup from it so when she heads to stay with her sister, the last thing she expects is for her heart to start beating again. The sad reality is that the one that is bringing her to life is her sister’s fiancée, Ethan, who is OFF LIMITS!! Try as she may they more time they spend together the harder it was to hide those emotions. Seeing Alice and Ethan’s friendship develop was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. The more I read the more I dreaded it because there was only one way their story could end. Their story had me on a rollercoaster of emotions that I am still trying to come to terms with it. Be prepared to smile, laugh, cry and fall in love. Kara~ 4.5 Stars

Review - Dancing with Sin by Alexandria Lee

❤️Forbidden

❤️Friends – Lovers

I have officially read my very first book of 2021 and I am utterly blown away. Alexandria is a new to me author of whom I discovered through @thesaffronkent newsletter. She recommended this book and I know anything she loves I will love! I am obsessed with anything angsty, forbidden, unrequited, taboo and all the books that I know will make me FEEL all the emotions, and this one hit all my sweet spots.
.
This book is about Alice and Ethan. Alice is suffering from a huge breakup and a broken heart, no longer able to handle her life in New York she fleas to Chicago to pursue her career of dance and live with her sister and her sister’s fiancé. Never having met Ethan before Alice was beyond curious to find out who this mystery man was that captured her workaholics sister’s heart, but what she most definitely was not expecting was for Ethan to completely knock her world on its axis, he was beautiful in everyway and she knew being around him and their electric chemistry would eventually be her downfall.
.
“𝙄 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙨, 𝙢𝙮 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩. 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙪𝙣𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙨𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖 𝙜𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚.“
.
Ethan and Alice have such undeniable chemistry from their very first meeting that its so hard not to root for them right from the beginning. There were times when I was just screaming “Just kiss already, consequences be damned!” but the way Alexandria crafted this beautiful slow burn was something else entirely. Such a passionate, heart-wrenching story of wanting what the heart wants.

Sometimes reading a book is like witnessing a car accident, as soon it happens you want to look away but you are invested and stay on scene to find out if everyone made it ok.

Thats how I felt 📚 reading this book. I wanted to turn my car around and drive away but I became invested in the story and characters and had to stay to find out what happened at the end.

This book also packs a double whammy in betrayal..the fmc is cheated on by her long term boyfriend and her friend then she falls in love with her sisters fiamcee after she flees nyc to live with them in Chicago. He seems to care about her too but she refuses to betray her sister) but emotionally thry both are betraying her.

The fmc is a ballerina who is still competing in a dance competition against her ex and the other hussey. He pops up occasionally to do nothing but annoy her and graye on her nerves for purely selfish reasons. He doesn't try to win her back but he still calls and even flies to Chicago so deep down he may realize he's an idiot and has lost the best person in his life but thats never conveyed. I honestly live for the moment in books where the cheating ex feels remorse and gets karma.

I did think there was a whole lot of chemistry between the main characters. Throw in a lit of angst and forbidden romance and you have an entertaining read with this book.

Review from ARC.

“And he knew it would end, even if his words left room for hope. He found me, he loved me, and he would lose me, and we both knew it.”

Dancing with Sin is a poetic tale of falling in love with the person who was meant for you, but at the wrong time. In Ethan Black’s words: “Make it so I met you first.”
Alexandria Lee brings each character to life so brilliantly; her words, a spell she casts on each page. I felt every heart flutter, every wave of nausea and every tear that Alice shed.
The ‘home-wrecker’ is usually a character that you cannot love or sympathise with, but when she created Alice Monroe, I felt nothing but compassion and admiration for her. ‘Home-wrecker’ is the last word you would use to describe her.
Alice is perfectly flawed and endearing. You want to wrap her in bubble wrap so she doesn't suffer any of the heartache she has to endure by watching the man she loves with her own sister. Love isn’t a choice.
As for Ethan Black, I am a happily married woman and even I grew slightly jealous of the love he had for Alice; so pure and mesmerising. Which made this story even more heartbreaking. Watching two people fall in love when it was the last thing they should be doing.
I want to forget I read this book only so I can read it again for the first time and fall in love with each word and emotion all over again.

If you were to pick one book to read, make it the right one, make it Dancing with Sin.

Wow! This book was surprisingly amazing. Alice and Ethan were beautiful together and I loved how their relationship flourished. This book gives everything including angst, sexual tension, and sugar sweet moments. Their relationship can make you believe in soulmates❤️❤️❤️

Ethan was not the type of hero that I typically go for. I usually love the tattooed alpha male badass who takes what he want. Ethan was intense but in a much more subtle way. He had such a soft spot for his family and struggled with making decisions regarding his own happiness. He could no more stop himself from loving Alice then we could stop ourselves from blinking. We know there are people that are hurt by their actions but we can’t help but root for them anyway.

This book did not have a ton of sex scenes or dirty talk but the scenes that are there are intense, beautiful and 🔥🔥🔥. I also love the sweet moments that are mixed in🤗

There is a bit of a separation which I really hate but is understandable given the circumstances...

HEA✅
Epilogue✅- I do wish we got one further out to see how they were doing after a couple of years..

Dancing with Sin grabbed me on the front page and wouldn't let me go until the end. I have read many romance novels, but this is by far the one that captivated me the most and quickly took the 1st place on my list of favorites.
Alexandria Lee's writing is completely out of this world and I cannot even put into words the talent that the author has in describing all the feelings, affection, suffering and anguish involved in this fantastic story.
From the plot to the characters involved, every little detail allows us to build a complex book that undoubtedly makes us reflect about love, family, toxic relationships and betrayal, leaving aside all the taboos associated with this forbidden romance.
It is a roller coaster ride, but the trip is completely worth it. It is impossible to read it and not want everyone involved, I particularly love the fact that it isn't the traditional love triangle in which there is always a "bad guy". In this, it is impossible not to love the charming Ethan, you just want love to win and at the same time you don't want Monica's heart to be shattered.
All the words I could say would never do justice to the masterpiece that is this story, so see it for yourself, I highly recommend it! It is a must read, for sure!

This book broke me 😭😭
I don’t condone what either of them did, and her sister is a class act for forgiving her and letting her be happy, but their love story had me hooked from the beginning and I cried non stop for the remaining 40% of the book..

They were true soulmates, and this is truly the first time I’ve ever experienced that in a contemporary romance. You see plenty of that in fated mates/fantasy romance, but feeling this in a contemporary romance really hits different.

The perfect song to encapsulate their love story is “Rewrite the Stars” by James Arthur & Anne-Marie. I’ve been listening to the song on repeat since seeing the title at the beginning of one of the last chapters, and it fits perfectly. I’m still listening now and I feel like I’m experiencing the their love story over and over 🥹

Some reviews complained that the book was too long, and in a sense, it was a little long. However, I’m grateful for all the moments we got to witness between them because it made me truly believe their love all that much more!

If a book has you ugly crying at 2am as much as this one did for me, you know you’re written something that’s changed someone with your words. I’m so grateful the author wrote this book and it found me 🥹🥰

I've followed Alexandria's work since she started writing on Wattpad. & let me tell you something, she is the queen of forbidden trope. I've been waiting for her stories to be published because it's just that good.

This novel is told from Alice's pov as we navigate through her journey of life after getting dumped by her boyfriend. When she moved in with her sister Monica, she met the sweet and charismatic future brother-in-law, Ethan. This is a slow burn forbidden romance and you'll see how the author has portrayed the characters' development beautifully. She will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride and won't let you off till the end.

Even if you don't like cheating books, I think you should give this a chance and go in with an open mind. If you know me, you'll know that I'm a sucker for this trope and I loved this book! It's not a traditional romance, but definitely one that will stay with you for a long while.

Dancing with Sin is by far my favorite book this year. Alexandria Lee will take you with this book to places in the crevices of your heart and mind, you never thought exists. Her words will play on your emotions hard and soft all the same. You will love each character to a degree that you will be able to feel their pain, hear each cry, touch the cracks left behind from life's disappointments and definitely melt away with their passion.
You will be taken on a roller coaster of mixed emotions, the urge to fight your mind against your heart is there all the time.
Alice the heroine in this book will hold a place in your heart forever and Ethan will be the man of your dreams.
If you are in for deep passionate out of this world relationship, You must definitely read Dancing With Sin❤

Absolutely loved this book!

Both leads are very relatable and have a natural rawness to them. You care about them as soon as you meet them. You laugh with them, cry with them, and just adore them.

It’s a forbidden romance, which means you won’t want to be on board with them, but you won’t have a choice.

What I loved about this book, is most of the time the person they’re stealing them from is a shitty person, but in this case, that couldn’t be further from the truth. This love triangle has three lovely people that you just want to be happy.

There is something genuine about Ethan that you cannot help but fall in love with. He’s a quiet, beautiful soul that opens up to you and makes you feel everything he’s feeling. Sometimes you’ll want to smack him upside the head, but by the next page, you’ll want to hug him all over again.
