This first book in the Assassin in Paradise Series by Jack Stroke has his main character, the elite assassin Amber, questioning everything in the current stage of her life, from work, to marriage, to family, and probably the most important to her, can you really ever go back home where you had happiness as a child and find what you are looking for. Solving this question is what drives Amber to think about her life's situation as well as almost drives her mind crazy. At the same time, as she is working on changing herself and her life, her assassin skills are called upon once again. The author puts her in a real quandary as to how long she can keep her professional life a secret from old childhood friends while at the same time keeping them safe, and ultimately still taking care of her business of eliminating the bad guys. I look forward to adding the next chapter in Amber's life to my TBR file. This is a somewhat late voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.

The story deals with a professional assassin who loses her taste for the job. She retreats to a resort she remembers from her childhood, where she discovers an old friend and her friend's mother have bought the resort. As you might expect, the assassin company does not have a retirement program. I received a free download of the prequel to this story from the author. It helped me to better understand and appreciate this volume. The style of writing makes for easy reading, and the characters are very realistic. I recommend this book, and look forward to more in this series. Amber is an interesting professional assassin.

Amber just wanted to quit being an assassin, but the grass was not green on the other side. She returns to the last place that she was happy. Trouble follows her. Back to the old life where she wanted to escape. Tough lady.
I liked the book except for the constant bickering with Megan.

A little bit of a female James Bond is how I would describe Amber Storm. I enjoyed the story and I liked where I think the character is going. I liked that she was often visited by her victims. The same fate followed a character in a western novel I read a few weeks ago. Overall it was well done.
