Say I Do: Three Wedding Stories

Rate this book
From three bestselling authors come sweet stories about love, friendship, and happily ever after.

A Brush with Love by Rachel Hauck (also published in A Season to Wed)

Ginger emerges from the pain of a childhood tragedy with a gift for bringing out the beauty in others. Despite her prestigious partnerships and clients, Ginger can’t help feeling like she’s on the outside looking in. But Ginger will have to rally her confidence when she’s asked to be the “beauty-maker” for the Alabama society wedding of the decade.

Then her high-school crush Tom Wells Jr. also returns to town and asks her for a haircut, Ginger’s thinly veiled insecurities threaten to keep her locked away from love. Despite Tom’s best efforts, Ginger can’t forget how he disappeared on her twelve years ago and broke her heart. Can she ever trust him again?

Love in the Details by Becky Wade (also published in To Have and to Hold)

Eight years have passed since Holly last saw her high school sweetheart, Josh. Now his best friend’s wedding has brought Josh back to Martinsburg, Texas.  His duties as best man and Holly's as the church's volunteer wedding coordinator link them together. She never told him the true reason for their breakup all those years ago, but it’s hard to keep the secret as feelings reemerge. And with those feelings comes the fear that held her back the last time.

Not a day's gone by since Josh parted from Holly that he hasn't thought about her. He doesn't want to make himself vulnerable to her again, but the more time he spends with her, the harder it is to deny the love he still has for her. As the wedding approaches, both Holly and Josh will have to decide if they want to risk everything for love.

An October Bride by Katie Ganshert (also published in Autumn Brides)

Emma Tate has just ended an engagement. So when she suddenly announces that she’s engaged—again—this time to her lifelong buddy Jake Sawyer, every busybody in town is talking about it. Of course, no one but Jake and Emma know the real reason they’re getting so Emma’s dying father will have a chance to walk her down the aisle.

But while Jake and Emma move forward with their plan and frantically organize an October wedding, it becomes clear that their agreement has a few complications—the biggest being their true feelings for each other. With dubious friends, ecstatic parents, and nosy neighbors, Emma and Jake have a lot to contend with if they’re going to pull this off. The real question is who wants this wedding more, Emma’s dad or Emma?

Such a fun collection of novellas from three of my favorite contemporary romance authors! These three novellas were previously published in different collections but they’re still heart-warming and wonderful the second time around.

Rachel Hauck creates a poignant and memorable story about true beauty and forever kind of love in A Brush with Love. Becky Wade brings a second chance love complete with forgiveness and reconciliation in Love in the Details. And Katie Ganshert masterfully weaves grief, regret, and two best friends’ long-held love into An October Bride. If you’re a fan of contemporary romance, this collection will hit the spot!

"Say I Do” is book composed of three wedding stories, each story is written by a different author making it a beautifully unique read. All three stories follow a journey of past lovers who rekindle their flame unexpectedly. This is an easy feel good read, I highly recommend for anyone who may be a fan of romance.

I really loved how the first story discussed beauty and self-worth as an extension of the concept "Your scars make you beautiful." It was really sweet. The other stories were also lovely.

I picked this book up because I really enjoy Rachel Hauck, but had never read any books by the other two authors. Now I have two more authors I want to read more of!

The first story by Rachel Hauck: Honestly, not my favorite by her, but still good. I enjoyed the overall message and it was a good story.

The second story by Becky Wade: I enjoyed the storyline of two high school sweethearts connecting again. A story of heartache and forgiveness.

The last story by Katie Ganshert: I really liked this one! Probably my favorite. Great storyline. Sad and hopeful.

Yes all these were predictable but still enjoyable! I will be checking out more books by the last two authors for sure!

This book contains three romance novellas from different authors. One is about a cosmetologist who is badly burned and scarred as a child. She makes others look beautiful but thinks of herself as ugly. The second is about a high school couple who split up due to the young man’s mother’s request. The third is the story of a veterinarian whose father has a terminal brain tumor. All the stories are enjoyable and quick reads, though the plots are fairly predictable.. Recommend for a nice, happy reading experience.

1. A Brush with Love. Oh boy. I snort laughed at the end reflecting on how ridiculous it all was, but I also cried a little? So, there are some conflicting feelings. It was a fine enough premise with emotional depth or at least potential (girl badly scarred in a fire and stood up by her high school love interest now faces that love interest years later when he returns to town, forcing her to face her insecurity--QUITE forcefully, I might add), but the pacing and emotion felt off and just up and down to me. I had to laugh inside at the Christian timeline of getting married in 0.75 seconds, but that's fairly fitting. The whole bit with staying at the house up the muddy lane was a smidge too cheesy for me, especially being rescued with a horse. And good heavens, the novella is rather preachy at times, but then this girl is just lifting up her shirt to reveal her scarred back and side with zero cares for modesty??? That had me laughing. 3 stars.

2. Love in the Details. This one was substantially better, in my opinion. The story was much more plausible. Holly was "forced" to break up with Josh many moons ago, they reunite in present day, both are still obsessed with each other but too afraid to say it. Seemed mildly unrealistic to me (despite me just saying it was more plausible), but I think that's just my cynical nature coming through here. I definitely rolled through some of the deeper messages and such because I can't handle those topics right now, and yet I appreciated it was there without being TOO in your face and/or cheesy. 4 stars.

3. An October Bride. Leaps and bounds, my favorite...but it was Katie, so I'm not surprised. I was hooked within pages, and I'm not entirely sure if it's because I love the fake relationship trope or the I've-always-loved-you trope or if it's just the magic of Katie's writing, but it was all truly wonderful. Emma's dad has a terminal cancer diagnosis, she accidentally finds his bucket list and discovers the item to "walk Emma down the aisle," and her secret childhood crush/brother's-best friend very philanthropically and selflessly offers to be her fiancee for a "fake" but "real" wedding to make that dream come true. I could have read this expounded as a whole novel in and of itself, easily, yet I didn't feel cheated with its brevity as a novella. It incorporated classic chick lit elements, somehow without being cheesy (Small town festival?! Declarations in the rain?!) or making me roll my eyes. I also liked that it incorporated heavier topics without being heavyhanded or ridiculous, and it wasn't dissonant--it all meshed well. 5 stars.

In this collection of wedding-themed novellas by well-renowned Christian authors Rachel Hauck, Becky Wade, and Katie Ganshert, 3 different women experience love all while preparing for weddings, whether it be their own wedding as in the novella An October Bride, or with other people's weddings as in the other two novellas A Brush With Love and Love in the Details.

Each of the novellas also featured lovable supporting characters and themes of spirituality interwoven in the plots. And who could have stories about weddings without romance too? The romances included in these novellas were so sweet, and I could not stop smiling once each novella was finished.

This collection of novellas will remind every reader about the power of love that weddings hold and will leave with them greater appreciation for all who help out with weddings.

All three novellas have great settings and likable characters. The premise of Rachel Hauck's is probably the most unique with the twist of what the MC believes to be her greatest obstacle to love. The story by Katie Ganshert was a lot of fun and reminded me of a rom-com movie I love with the fake fiancé to give peace to the dying parent trope. The author's take on it is well done and enjoyable.
Becky Wade's addition to the collection is different with the introduction of unrequited love, or I guess since they dated and were in love before, a second chance at love. As much as they try to tell themselves they've moved on from the past, the MCs haven't, and it's fun watching them realize that for themselves and see where the truth takes them.
I'd definitely pass this one on to a friend looking for feel-good love stories with HEAs and a whole lot of weddings.

This is a collection of three novellas.
The first one, A Brush with Love, was…not great. If you like really preachy, churchy stories that magically wrap up prettily, this one if for you. (I do understand that novellas are a more difficult genre because there’s not much time for plot or character development, but this was still just too unbelievable and overly religious for my taste.) Thankfully, the second, Love in the Details, made up for it! The third novella, An October Bride, was good, but could have used a little more emotional connection between the main characters.
I wouldn’t re-read this, but I did enjoy two thirds of the book.

Great sweet reads! I enjoyed all of them only slight issue I had was it seemed like all of them just poof decided they wanted to marry so and so. My only critque is I wish they would of plotted a little better right before climax and leading to end of stories. But still good novellas and still an enjoyable read for me didn't make that you didn't understand the story.

Sweet Little Happily Ever After Stories

I enjoyed each of these stories. I liked the characters, the small-town settings and how each of the couples had known each other growing up and then in their 20s for one reason or another found each other again - for their Happily Ever After.

I am a huge fan of Rachel Hauck and Becky Wade. Now I can add Kate Gamshert to my list! The three novellas were emotional and heartwarming. It takes a gift to create conflicting emotions within a story and these three authors nailed it. Inspirational and moving! Oh so worth the read.

I got it because I like Hauck’s work and needed to be introduced to some new authors too. It’s a quick read. All very cute, with just enough of that wedding story magic. I would gladly read any of these books in long form.

This book is basically the literary equivalent of a Hallmark movie. Not the highest quality storytelling, but very enjoyable, cute, easy to read, pleasantly predictable happy endings. I had a good time!

Three cute wedding centered stories with predictable friends to more storylines. I was looking for a quick and light read, and this fit the bill. Sweet Hallmark-esque storylines and settings.
