Barnabi is an alpha deer shifter who loves his best friend Fowler more than anything else in this world.
Fowler is an omega skunk shifter who just wants to spend the rest of his life with his best friend Barnabi, and he'll take it any way he can get it.
Every year they spend the week around Christmas bundled up at home, eating soup, drinking hot cocoa and watching Christmas movies, not leaving for anything and just living the Christmas dream. Getting snowed in shouldn't make much of a difference, right? That won't change anything... Will it?
This story was originally part of a charity anthology Love in Springtime released in 2020. It has since been revised to add 6K words, plenty of Christmas goodness, slick, knots and Mpreg!
This like all JD Light books was cute and made you mushy for the MCs. Soul mates at a young age that never suspected anything other than mutual friendship. But what they got was so much more.
It was cute. The main characters were really likable to me. I LOVED how they were so devoted to each that they never even kissed another guy. I wish I would have had MORE. That’s my complaint. It wasn’t long enough. Oh, and, we don’t get Barnabi’s description at all. *rolling my eyes*. Why??? Grrrr.
I always enjoy reading JD Light's omegaverse books because they're so sweet and fluffy. So Stinkin' Deer is about two best friends who met when they were children and slowly fell in love. Barnabi is an alpha deer shifter who has been in love with his best friend, Fowler, ever since they met as children. Fowler is an omega skunk shifter who is also in love with Barnabi. Both shifters are clueless about how the other feels even though their friends know they are in love. Every year, they spend the week around Christmas together but when they're snowed in this year, their true feelings come out :) Sweet, cute and adorable novella just like all of JD Light's other books. I also loved the Bambi reference and the deer and skunk pairing was cute.
This is a delightfully sweet, funny, awesome book! I was drawn in from the first pages. Two inseparable best friends who are totally clueless that their love isn't brotherly anymore. It will take a snowy Christmas, two ornaments, and a nosy, well- meaning friends to knock some sense into them. When they finally admit their feelings, the "firsts" come into being; starting with their first kiss and ending...? Come, join Barnabi, alpha deer, and Fowler, omega skunk on their road to HEA. You will be as enchanted as I was. Get. This. Book. Now. You will be glad you did. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
I can't believe I am saying this, but I didn't even notice the cover until after I had read the book. Which in and of itself is weird, because I am generally a cover whore! *grin*
Yes, the cover was perhaps not completely as it should have been, but the story was sweet and Fowler was snuggled to within an inch of his life by Barnabi and slowly coming to realize that he was madly in love with... Barnabi!
Now, Barnabi? He has known for years that he is in love with Fowler, but is too afraid that he will lose him if he tries to change their relationship. Yep, once again, lack of COMMUNICATION! *snort* ;p
I will say that I don't think I have ever seen an author squeeze so much story into such a short span of pages... amazing! LOL!!!
5 stars Super sweet little romance. J.D. Light always manages to squeeze so much into such a small amount of pages without it feeling like so much is left out. Cute little spin on the Bambi tale with Barnabi, Fowler, and Thunder without the scary hunters and a gay twist. Barnabi and Fowler have loved each other since childhood and one day they became IN love with each other. Like so often happens when you are too close to an issue neither realized that they were both in love with the other and neither wanted to take that final step and chance ruining their deep friendship.
Cute short read. I loved the play on Bambi characters. I know it was only like 45 pages but I wish there would have been some more descriptions of the characters. It seemed like for Fowler all that was explained was his skin and then the white streak he had on his face and hair. I don't think there was any description of Barnabi except that he was hot. Guess it's up to you to fill in the blanks.
How does JD continuously write the sweetest little romances? I never thought I'd be so enamored with a skunk shifter but Fowler is adorable. Don't cuddle that much, huh? And B seriously treats Fowl like a treasure. It's a little odd that they're 25 and the romantic truth is only just coming to light, but I can see how the right circumstances had to be in play first.
So cutem and I always visioned flower and bambi together. I remember even asking my mama why didn't they get married if they were such good friends. So Fowler and Barnabi was perfect. I cried even more than I think was necessary because it was so perfect.
Fowler an omega skunk shifter, met Barnabi an alpha deer shifter in kindergarten and they were practically stuck together ever since. They worked, lived and partied together, but they were clueless as to how the other felt. It took a friend to point out that they just needed to talk. I loved their journey.
This was such a sweet friends to lovers romance and I found it to be quite delightful and heartfelt. Barnabi and Fowler had been such extremely close friends most of their lives. Finally on Christmas, they realize that they truly love each other for so much more than friends, which to me, is the perfect Christmas gift. Very well done with such cute characters.
The relationship between Barnabi and Fowler starts when they are young, and even then, Barnabi thought Fowler was beautiful. Fast forward to a Christmas where they hold up in their house and spend the season together, but with a push from their friend, they finally allow themselves to admit their feelings for one another. This is a very sweet read with a protective Barnabi and a lovely Fowler.
Our silly MC's never saw what was right in front of their faces. Fowler is an omega skunk shifter & Barnabi is an Alpha deer. They have been friends, and IMO in love with each other, since they first met as young children. It took a beat & a huge push from their friend's love interest, but they finally took the chance & went for it. Lovely quick, sweet read.
Barnabi: alpha Deer shifter, Fowler: omega skunk shifter. Best friends since Pre-K. A nice light romance of best friends who finally tell each other how they love each other, and there’s snow. Sweet, light, romantic, first’s, Christmas gifts, traditions and most importantly for me, a Happily Ever After.
It was okay. Extremely short so not a lot of time to really like the characters. What really bothered me was how the author described the black guy’s skin as dark as a chocolate bar! Wtf?! Why do people compare color skin to food?! No one says his white skin was like a bar of white chocolate. Ugh sorry rant over
A short though very sweet story and so reminiscent of Mark and Devon Foster from the Salacious Summer Singe series. It would have been better still if we got an epilogue of the birth.
Ohh what a romantic story. I love when I get one of theses fun sweet gotta love them romance. And the names are perfect I don’t won’t to give it away but the names are the best. Perfect holiday romance.
I love JD Light. I love these type of stories. The humor and antics of the characters are what makes the stories fun and relaxing, especially after a hard day at work. Thank you.
So Stinkin' Deer is such a cute story! I loved the MM play on the movie Bambi. In this story it is Barnabi and Fowler, a deer and skunk shifter, who met in Pre-K and have been best friends since then. They were so cute, and it was a perfect holiday read. I read this story using the kindle unlimited program.
This was such a sweet story! Fowler and B are so perfect together and it was easy to see they were meant for each from day one! I really enjoy reading J.D’s stories, they are always short & super sweet! I can’t wait to see what’s next! 😀❤️
This book was very very short and therefore unfortunately felt a bit rough. It was however insanely sweet and cute. The two main characters finally realized their love for each other and it was adorable.
This story was absolutely adorable! The only complaint I have is that it was short. I could've continued reading about Barnabi & Fowler's sweet love story for much longer. Great job, as usual, from JD Light.
Loved this story. It was so sweet. I really enjoyed how much the author was able to put into the story even though it was only 47 pages! I really enjoyed Barnabi & Fowler and would like to see more of them.
This was the sweetest fluffy holiday read that I've read in a while. Everyone knew they were a couple before they actually realized it. A great sweet Christmas read.
