I was given this book to read by a friend of the author, with the aim of recommending it to our local library. I enjoyed the setting of the story, being on the Great Lakes in Ontario, Canada and mentioning many places that were familiar to me. I appreciated that the main character was a young boy who was on the verge of manhood, still small for his age, yet full of grit and determination. The story was well told and was full of challenges and adventures a young boy would enjoy reading about.
I will be recommending this book to our librarian and to parents with boys who enjoy the I SURVIVED series.

What a lovely, nostalgic story. Great details about what life was like on the coast of Bruce County "back in the day."

Read this as bedtime reading for the tween. We both liked it in the end. Lots of great details about Bruce County 100 years ago. Gave a nice feel about what life might have been like. On our last read, we both said we liked it and Tweenie said "I hope there's another one!"
