A terrible secret at a school for children who can't sleep...
An actress who will do anything for fame...
And more!
High Dive Publishing presents 12 spine tingling stories and 1 spooky poem to make you shiver in your board shorts. These tales are scary enough to frighten you in broad daylight while you watch the surf from your beach chair, or late at night when you're nursing that sunburn.
13 writers have come together to create an anthology scarier than climbing the ladder to dive off the high diving board.
A poem by K.C. Dunford and stories by Peter L. Harmon, Andrew Adams, Beck Medina, Malcolm Badewitz, Daniel Lee, Sean Cameron, Ben Greene, Joe Cabello, Matthew Hartwell, Graham Stone Johnson, Christopher L. Malone, and Katherine Forrister.
Peter L. Harmon is an author, screenwriter, podcaster, and producer. He studied Electronic Media and Film as well as Creative Writing at Towson University in Baltimore. He also spent the best summers of his life working and playing at the Cheverly Swim and Racquet Club, the pool where the idea for The Happenstances at the Yellow County Community Swim and Racquet Club the Summer Before Last did its first cannonball.
I enjoyed the stories in this book. Most are quick reads. My favorite was the last story, How To Make A Ghost. I like ghost stories a lot. Like with every collection, some stories are better than others. Keep in mind that what one person enjoys, or doesn’t, is their preference. It doesn’t mean you will have the exact response. All of the stories are fine for teens, (I would have no problem with preteens reading it). The stories aren’t over the top gore and violence. In my opinion, most rely on your imagination, which is something I love. The best scares are ones you imagine. I won a Kindle copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. My review is voluntary and based upon my enjoyment of the book.
Every short story in this book has something fun and unique to offer. I found myself totally sucked in! I definitely recommend it for those late nights when you're in the mood to get creeped out.
Overall very simple stories, some closer to 'horror' than others. Some were better than others, a few felt very lacking. A mixture of natural and supernatural elements. I can't say I truly enjoyed any one more than the rest.
I so wanted to like this. I love horror! I love anthologies! Unfortunately, there was only one story that I truly enjoyed (the last one, which is also substantially longer than any of the other stories in the collection. Coincidence?) and the rest ranged from mediocre to baffling.
I really enjoyed this book. Great for 12 and up. Reminded me of 'Gooosebumps' and 'If Your Afraid of the Dark" in fact each story ended to quick for me and was wanting to read more of each story.
