A gripping, heart-wrenching and slow burn enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance.
What happens when a dare goes too far?
Maddox Coulter. Reckless bad boy. Infamous playboy. He was my nemesis, then my best friend.
Maddox promised to always be there for me. I vowed I’d never leave him.
We teetered over the line of love and obsession for many years. The irresistible attraction between us became more – it burned us and we laid in the ashes of our mistakes. Our relationship was something precious and we fought, we bled… and we fell deeper into this game of love.
We were never meant to cross paths in the first place because Maddox held a secret that would be the cause of our ruination.
But maybe it was kismet…
Truth or Dare?
Truth: He loved me. I loved him. But it was never simple. Dare: I dare you to read our story. Nothing is what it seems to be.
DARE TO LOVE is the complete TRUTH AND DARE DUET collection and a never seen before Christmas Novella + two bonus/deleted chapters of Maddox and Lila.
Author of The Mafia and His Angel. Creator of Alessio Ivanshov and Aylessio.

She uses all her spare time to write. If she is not studying, sleeping, writing or working - she can found with her nose buried in a good romance book, preferably with a hot alpha male.
let’s just make sure we all know that having a sexual encounter with someone drunk out of their mind, who doesn’t even remember a single thing that happened the next morning is called SEXUAL ASSAULT. we all acknowledge that? ok? great.
I MISSED YOUUUUU *arc generously provided by the promo team in exchange for an honest review*
I missed Lila and Maddox! Glad to read their characters again. It's full of emotional moments, and we see the cracks behind the perfect happy ending. Our leading couple has a cute little family now, but it's not all as rosy as it seems. I loved being in their universe again, and I loved that the author chose this route for the novella. Not everybody's perfect all the time. That's just fine!
I don’t think anyone can dislike this book. ABSOLUTELY.FUCKING.BEAUTIFUL 😭💗💓 It’s a friends to lovers btw. I’m SOBBING 😭 where was this book all my life? It’s so underrated. The characters were WOW, THE BEST, EXCEPTIONAL 🤌♥️ I ate this up so quickkk but also didn’t wanted it to end, never for a single second was I bored, I was so into the book bec it’s written so well, I’m literally in love 😍💖💘
I don’t know where to start and I thought if I could just read a couple of chapters in I’ll be able to continue it the next day but nooo I literally read this duet till it finished at at 4am. I haven’t come across a really good book in ages and let’s just say that this one really really hit the mark for me. If I could go and reread this duet again just to keep giving it more stars I would. I’m a sucker for YA to adulthood and Maddox and Lila is those characters you just love to enjoy.
This Christmas novella was everything. Maddox and Lila's love is so beautiful. I loved how we got to see them as a married couple and as parents. Lylah showed us that all couples go through rough patches but if there's love, they can overcome anything.
Everything Lila was going through had me super emotional, I think I teared up right in the first chapter and then several times after. Maddox was pretty incredible, he would do anything for his girl and seeing him so worried and trying to help her in any way he could was so heartwarming. What a great husband he is. I just loved to see the love between them and how they overcame what was going on. I loved getting more of these two and their kids were adorbs.
I really loved when we get a story about couples that are already in a relationship/marriage. I wish there were more books like this out there.

OH MY GOD; this is such a heartwarming reading experience, lylah totaly, completely and overly attacked me with so much goodness.
▪︎ In the previous duet, we witnessed maddox and lila relationship evolve from strangers to friends to best friends to lovers, we witnessed their love grow and their bond gets solid everyday a little more, we witnessed their struggles, fears and challenges and how they overcome all of it together, how they protected each other and strengthened their strings, we thought that it's impossible for them to love each other more than they already do but guess what? WE WERE ALL WRONG.
▪︎almost a decade later, maddox and lila's love is still flourishing and blossoming like a spring love, they face the cruelty of the wind and rain together and yet they still rose and grow it was inspiring, reading about their never ending love, passion and chemistry.
Now, Maddox and Lila have a new challenge, which is being parents and you have no idea how perfect they are, the softness and adoration got me every single time and they never gave up even in the sore situations, even when they are exhausted and even when they don't know what to do anymore, they fought for their family and their babies.
it was a beautiful sensation reading about how mature and wise they became, the bonds and friendships have another precious part in this novella.
• Riley, Colton, Grayson, Charlotte and Aurora • how they turned from friends to a whole supportive family is beyond words, I want to read this over and over again.
I'm so happy we can meet Maddox and Lila again after the duet. This novella is so perfect to complete their story.
I think I just fell in love more with these characters after reading this. Maddox as husband is literally everything that we could ask for. He's really the best support system for Lila. He's so caring, understanding and also amazing father. (But ofc he's also still bossy af😂) And my bb Lila, as a wife and a mother this woman is just so amazing. She faced some struggles and with Maddox's help they're able to overcome it. Their little family is so cute and it made me wanting moreeee. I like that maddoxlila as parents were so realistic in this one. The life after marriage and having kids aren't always full of rainbows. But we know that their love is still going strong after all these years, they really complete each other.
PS. Lylah teased us about Riley's book in this one. Of course she's being vague af about it and I have so many different theories ajdjsjsjs
„I want every piece of you. The good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly.”

Lylah James rocked my world with the Truth And Dare Duet, so I couldn’t wait to get reacquainted with Maddox and Lila. What changed? Everything and nothing! Our characters are older, more mature and their life is completely different than when we met them. But at the same time, they are just as madly in love with each other and they still evoke the same intense emotions!
I guarantee that you will love Maddox more than ever after this novella. This guy is just amazing. Still sexy and irresistible, but also full of support, understanding and devotion. He’s perfect in a new role as a family man and he can be gentle, still being the bossy and commanding man he was years ago. Le sigh!
Lila as a wife and mother is wonderful. Sacrificing, caring and loving, even when it's hard. She’s an embodiment of strenght and tenacity. I am glad that the author showed her from the human side, with all the flaws and doubts. Development of her character is brilliantly delivered and I just loved her to pieces!
These two complement each other perfectly. I loved to see that their feelings are still strong and that the flame hasn’t faded over time. They show what the real partnership is and how important mutual support is. Once again they evoked in me a full range of emotions- from sadness and heartbreak, through joy and bliss, to flushing from the passion pouring out of the pages. Gahhh, how I missed them!
Lylah James created a captivating and alluring story that will steal your heart. The Truth or Dare duet is a turbulent and emotional journey that will make you completely addicted, and the addition of Maddox and Lila's novella is the icing on the cake. I love this couple with all my heart and I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to read about them again!
Dare to Love is the Truth and Dare Duet by Lylah James, plus a christmas novella of Maddox and Lila.
We meet Maddox and Lila in the Truth and Dare duet. These characters have come so far and to be able to see them after everything they’ve been through is truly amazing. Their character development is so well shown and you can see just how much they’ve grown not only together but as individuals.
Lila has got to be one of the strongest characters. Her ability to always try to remain strong amazes me but the things she ends up going through after everything was one of my favorite parts of the novella. We see these characters feel weak but the outcome is always stronger.
Maddox and Lila’s relationship is definitely one of my favorites. Their love for each other always remains as strong as ever. They learned so much from the past and they continue to keep moving forward. Their family moments are the absolute cutest and heartwarming. The intimate scenes between Maddox and Lila still remain with so much passion and their chemistry is always so fierce.
They’ve really come to far and Lylah James did such a good job in capturing who they are as characters. Full with flaws but their imperfections are what makes them unique and free. They deal with pain and happiness but looking back at the things they’ve gone through, it seems that if they stick together then all the pain is just part of the strength they endure every single moment.
Loved it and just seeing their family in depth. This was heartbreaking as much as it was heartwarming. Maddox and Lila are such amazing parents and I loved seeing them go through hard things together. Will definitely be thinking about this duet for a while.
𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬: adult contemporary, parenthood, married couple, emotional, steamy
💭
Such an amazing read 👏🏻 Lylah delivered an emotional short novella featuring the main characters in the truth or dare duet and it's everything and more.
This time, Lila and Maddox have to deal with parenthood and all the complications related to that. She also has postpartum depression, which makes it harder to control her emotions.
But with Maddox besides her, they face anything in their life. I adore how understanding and patience he was and how he never left her alone.
Lila faced her struggles great, sicking for therapy help to be the best version to her kids. She is an amazing mother and wife.
Aside the romance, some old faces are back such as Colton, Grayson and Riley, which make me crave their book so much!!
Expect some heartwarming scenes between Maddox and Lila as a couple and them as parents with their kids.
Overall, it was a great way to conclude their story, with some heartwarming scenes, as emotional ones, but also some steamy scenes as Lylah delivers always. Make sure to grab it once it's out!!
This is one of my favorite couples of ALL time and one of the most amazingly written stories about how complicated love and longing can be- how it brings out the best in us, and the worst in us. Lila and Maddox are intense, flawed, volatile, and so breathtakingly beautiful in their fractures. And the boxset includes a novella that has such surprising and emotional resonance for a novella. The boxset is worth getting just for that alone!
Bonus Christmas Novella: This Christmas novella gave me ALL the feels. Lylah somehow gives us a story that is nostalgic for these characters' intense roots while also giving us a short but incredibly meaningful step forward in their relationship journey. I cried, I swooned, I laughed, but most importantly, I fell in love with Lila and Maddox all over again. Watching how these two have grown together in their domestic bliss, have matured, have transformed their beautiful dysfunction into beautiful harmony was the best Christmas gift. I didn't think I could love them any more than I already did- but I was wrong. Sweet, sexy, and heartfelt magic! A topic and situation that was totally unexpected - but optimistic in it's themes and vulnerable in its approach. I loved it so much!
Do You Dare (Book 1) Review: WHAT THE WHAT. Lylah- THAT ENDING?! I NEED BOOK 2 NOW! From the first chapter this book HOOKS you- you know where it ends up, and the whole time you’re trying to figure out just WHAT that opening meant, and how these interesting characters got there.
This first half of this duet was incredible- gripping, engaging, could not-stop-reading awesome. This didn’t play out how I thought it would - which made it all the more enjoyable. And interesting take on the eve popular bully genre- merging the friends-to-lovers trope in, we have an emotional and intense story!
I loved both Maddox and Lila. Nuanced and interesting, funny- such insane emotional and physical chemistry. Maddox is your typical reckless, yummy badboy. The QB womanizing jerk. Lila quite literally bumps into his life- and an epic relationship begins. She’s smart, driven, and witty- and also has some trust issues with guys like Maddox. She’s strong but compassionate- which made me really respect her.I loved her spunkiness- she’s assertive and knows herself, and with Maddox’s alpha attitude, it makes for some super witty and engaging verbal sparring and some hot sexual tension. Somehow what felt like it was a bully story then evolved- into a friendship with interest in more story. They are such a complex pair- their dynamic both challenges the worst in each other and complements the best. They relate to and heal one another’s past damages and pain. And, I loved getting under their tough, confident outer layers into the hearts of both of the characters. I always love the magnetic draw Lylah creates between her characters- the chemistry pours off the page.
This is definitely a slow burn as these two characters find their way to each other, but it is so worth it to watch the natural and dynamic progression of their connection to each other- even if you want to yell at them to get it together. And, since this is a duet, we don’t have our HEA.I NEED BOOK 2 now- I need to heal my heart! And, apparently it is coming soon. I can only imagine it will be a wild, steamy, emotional ride, and I am HERE for it!
I Dare You (Book 2) Review: DARE YOU. Three little words that changed the course of our characters' life trajectories and ignited a horde of ravenous Maddox and Lila fans around the world. Three words that started out as a declaration of war and challenge that somehow Lylah twisted into a beautiful declaration of love and devotion. Three words that Lylah has imbued with so much passion and emotion that I can’t speak them without my heart beating faster.
Our worlds were upended when Do You Dare rocked our hearts and minds. Lovelies, the anticipation has made the reward that much sweeter- this conclusion does NOT disappoint. Every heartbeat since I read the last page of Do You Dare has been worth the wait for this angsty, emotional, earth shattering conclusion. This story is ADDICTIVE- I could not turn the pages fast enough, yet I wanted to linger and savor every moment- that is compelling storytelling. This picks up immediately where Book 1 ended- with Lila and Maddox finally exploring their mutual attraction in Paris. And then back in their real lives. The plot action here is blissfully minimal- this is 100% a story of emotion and connection, Lylah keeps a laser focus on the emotional journey - and it is riveting, entirely consuming.
Book 1 was a giant tease- a slow burn enemies-to-friends story. The chemistry was a powder keg, but we didn’t really didn’t reach our bang until the finale when the will-they-won't-they tension reached a pivotal moment- and then BOOM, our story was over. Book 2 does not hold back, it lights a match to that keg and we have explosion after explosion- a fire blazing the entire story. THIS BOOK IS HOT. SCORCHING. Maddox is SUCH a dirty talker- OMY. A perfect naughty alpha. This side of him combined with the beautiful broken soul we saw in book 1 and his charm- O WOW. I feel so much harder for him and his “romance with a side of dick,” as he would say. These two have physical chemistry that could melt an iceberg and an emotional connection that can heal a heart. You can literally feel the gravitational pull between them- the angst, the longing, the desire, the need between them is so thick at times I lost my breath.
But what made me fall in love with these two is their emotional connection- the fierce intensity between them. This has passion, it has pain and heartache, longing despair, and the thread of it all- a soulfully deep and intimate love. We spent the whole first book watching these two evolve as friends- Lylah intimately weaving them together so beautifully- helping us get to know and love these vibrant, flawed, damaged souls. We fell in love with them- and now we know them, so the emotion we feel as we watch them go from friends to lovers finally has been that much more heightened, it's more visceral, more impactful, more shattering. The connection is intense, unstoppable, consuming. I’ve never felt the emotional intensity of two characters in the way I did here- the tenderness, the anger, the love, the need- and when they hurt each other, my heart felt like it was being ripped from my chest. I felt every breath they took, every word deep in my soul.
Love can be destructive, and love can be restorative. Lylah lets us see how it can be both, even at the same time. How love brings out both the best and worst in ourselves. Like our first book, this story is about personal growth- about healing and embracing love, about learning TO love. Our characters grew a lot in book 1, and here we see them continue to struggle to mature, alongside a new character- Maddox-Lila as a couple. Individually, they are still grappling with their past pain and figuring out who they are as people, but now they are also struggling to figure out who they are as a couple. Lila and Maddox are fighters- learning now to fight for each other instead of against each other after years of resistance. Lila’s insecurities and avoidance, Maddox’s anger and control, both of their stubbornness and fear of vulnerability, all make for a turbulent, chaotic, anguishing journey- but what a satisfying and beautiful one. From that jaw dropping prologue to the very last page, my heart was in my throat. This epic love story moved me- broke my heart and filled it back up again. What a touching, emotional, and cathartic conclusion to this epic love story. I Dare You. Three little words- and I am forever changed.
Dare to love is the complete truth and dare duet plus a christmas novella.
Maddoxlila are everything and more, them as parents...yes please. This novella emcompassed everything i dreamed about and more especially seeing them grow from teenagers to parents. SPOILER! The novella talked about heavy stuff like postpartum depression and miscarriages and I loved seeing how they were able to overcome it together. Lila felt inadequate as a mother and Maddox reassured her that she was a wonderful mother and it just made me fall in love with them more. The novella was short but you could see how much Maddox and Lila have grown throughout the years.
Lila is absolutely one of my favorite characters and it shows you why in the novella. She is so strong and passionate and you see how she is able to overcome her fears with the help of Maddox and her family. Their love is so pure and strong yet they continue to grow and learn from each other with each passing day.

So this was my first time ever reading about Maddox and Lila and I’m so happy I finally did it. Lylah has an amazing way of developing the characters and the story and she also loves to play with our emotions so if I read the duet when it come out, I would be dying to read the second book after the way the first one ended so this way I get to follow the whole story in one book.
Maddox and Lila are such a roller coaster. The way they started as enemies to friends to best friends to lovers to exes... you can already get what I was saying. And the Christmas novella was just perfect. I always love to see the future of the couples and once again Lylah did an amazing job representing some importante and difficult topics.
This is such a good read and just look to that cover!

It was a pleasure to have them back even if only for a little christmas story.
Let's start by saying : Lylah, for santa’s sake, how are you able to make me cry and to involve emotional scenes even in a short story? You really are something else, I swear !!!
Our babies are now happily married with five beautiful children. Like any normal couple, however, they also have to face difficulties and this is exactly what I loved most about this story. Lylah showed us that not always everything is fine in the married life, especially when there are children involved. Postpartum depression, not feeling good about your body after pregnancies, all of Lila's fears and anxieties were expressed beautifully and are part of most women’s life, which made it all the more realistic. Lylah showed us how sometimes it’s easy to fall down into an infinite vortex from which, thanks to the willpower and love of those around us, we can get back up.
They got each other’s back, ALWAYS, and Lylah never fails to remind us. It was exciting to follow Maddox and Lila's journey, to see them grow individually and as a couple. They went from being two best friends in their teens, to two adult lovers who have built a beautiful family, the one they have always dreamed of. Love is what has always kept them united and thanks to it they’ll be able, as they have always done, to overcome every obstacle that life will bring before them.
Now I can’t wait to know with who Riley is gonna end up with (Grayson or Colton?) + to get to know better the new characters.
OK! I only read the christmas novella and seriously i love Maddoxlila so much, and this novel was suffered like everything by Lylah, but it was so beautiful at the same time! they are soooo beautiful, and they kids are so cute and perfect, i love them.
And just my god wtfffff Riley/Colton/Grayson is a threesome? I'm just not reacting, I like them both but i didn't expect a threesome... so anxious to know more about this story.
So anyone who knows me knows that lila and maddox from the truth and dare duet by Lylah James are one of my all time fave couples ever so when lylah announced she would be writing a Christmas novella for them I was all over that!
Dare To Love is books 1&2 in the duet with the added novella. The novella in its self was such a lovely read. I loved seeing these two that we saw almost grow up in the previous books, go about their lives as the adults they are now. They had become parents, home owners, workers but underneath all that they were still poodle and little dragon.
I really really loved how Lylah wrote a certain subject (I won't say as its spoilery) but I appreciated how she didn't shy away from it and went into even though it must of been hard to write. Because sometimes even the most perfect lives and couples have horrible devastating things happen to them which is not in their control. That's life. Shit happens. It hurts. And to see them go through this hurt me but I also liked how Lylah kept it realistic. And to see both of these characters whom I love come out stronger was everything.
Lila and Maddox continue to show the world why they are best friends, lovers and will always be each others soulmates. I loved getting a deeper peek into their family life. And this novella brought such a smile to my face it was the perfect addition to their story!
The teasing of the rileygraysoncolton saga has my mind reeling and I need this book like now ma'am!! It was great seeing them again too.
This was such a wonderful novella to read at this time of year. If you have yet to read truth and dare duet then defo pick dare to love out,as you can read to your hearts content

“To be wanted by this beautiful man was something exhilarating. But to be needed by Maddox Coulter was… more than I could describe in words.”
Dare to Love is the combination of the Truth and Dare Duet and a Christmas bonus novella with Maddox and Lila! Lylah James absolutely killed it with this story and I can’t say it enough. Read. These. Books. Angst. Emotion. Steam. Banter. This story had it all.
Maddox and Lila were everything and to get more of them in that extra novella? It really tied my 2020 reading journey up with a nice little bow.
The bonus novella at the end was everything I needed from these two. Their character growth is so remarkable and to see them AFTER, it was everything.
Read the book. This duet is one of my top reads from the year and YOU WILL THANK ME!
“He took me at my worst, a broken mess of imperfections.”
i only read the christmas novella but it was the best thing that happened to me this december!!! i was CRYING and laughing i missed lilamaddox so much !!!!!! also very much intrigued about riley now 👀
Put me through so much emotional turbulence. It had me crying listening to 'traitor'.
The first part of the book was incredible a perfectly done school frienimies trope. Pretty interesting seeing how they slowly fell into friendship. Of course it wasn't perfect but it was very enjoyable and had me on my toes wanting to find out more. The first half reminded me of the song 'double take' - dhruv. The song me more immersed.
Second half of the book tore me. I was so scared he was going to cheat on her and THANK GOD he didn't because I would of lost mt everything mind. But dammm seriously the way things played out had he dead ass distress. Crying even... listening to Olivia Rodrigo. Yet again. Goodness me it felt like the resolved the issue before I was emotionally ready. I was still upset, I wanted a bit more of a grand wooing. Also friken Biannca is ANNOYING, why she come in and ruin it.
But never the less despite the character flaws I still enjoyed it thoroughly. Maddox and Lila are something else. I love how strong the female lead is. And the male lead is an incredible.... partner, after the conflict that is. Dam I wish there was some things addressing the conflict I wanted a full conversation of both there respective intentions and perspectives. I wanted her to explain to why she left.
Nonetheless a journey of two imperfectly perfect couple.
