Backstage Romance #3

Driving Miss Darcy: Pemberley For Christmas

Rate this book
An Austen-Inspired Romantic Comedy

3 days til Christmas 2 unlikely traveling companions 1 zippy little dog

Georgia Darcy never asked to be a movie star’s little sister but nothing will keep her from getting to her brother’s wedding on Christmas Day. Even if Mother Nature thwarts her traveling plans.

When all flights cancel, she's unexpectedly paired with a chronically unlucky rideshare and his overly cute dog, finding that turbulence isn’t exclusive to airplanes. Especially when it comes to her heart.

Wyatt Silva, flat broke and fresh out of options, embarks on a detour road trip alongside delightfully sweet Georgia, who not only stumbles over his dog, but also into his life.

Doomed with nutty disasters of ridiculous proportions, the cockeyed couple is forced to find creative means to trek it across the country and maybe a little romance along the way. But will a few secrets and a sleigh full of questions give them Santa-pause, or will they find a home together for the holidays?

Sleet, snow, and a Winnebago. It’ll take a Christmas miracle to navigate their stormy attraction to one another and reach Pemberley for Christmas.

Driving Miss Darcy is a stand-alone romantic comedy in the Austen-Inspired Backstage Romance series.

I adored this wacky, romantic, Christmas story. It is a sequel but could absolutely stand alone and honestly could feature any one.

Will Darcy is getting married on Christmas in Los Angeles, his 20 something sister; who attends Julliard, has to get home to LA for the wedding. But everything is going to go pear shaped and she ends up paired up with a vagabond freelance writer who is also hell bent on getting to LA.

First their flight to Chicago is rerouted to small municipal airport in the middle of nowhere, then their tiny rental car slides into a lake, then their luggage and wallets are stolen. Now with less than 48 hours to make their individual deadlines they are stranded and broke in the middle of nowhere.
What they need is a Christmas Miracle.
And they'll get several which will make you believe in the kindness of your fellow man. And if the epilogue doesn't make you misty eyed ... well I just don't know.

4.5 rounded up to 5 stars

This is a cute Christmas story where EVERYTHING starts going wrong for Georgia Darcy from the time she meets Wyatt Silva. She's desperately trying to get to LA for her brother's Christmas Day wedding to Beth, and Wyatt is a fellow-traveler on her flight. Due to bad weather, their plane is diverted to a tiny town in Iowa. With rental cars scarce, they find themselves uncomfortably sharing one. It's quite the adventure from there.

Wyatt doesn't seem like an obvious match for Georgia. He's dirt poor, klutzy, and had a bad experience with a rich girl in the past, so he writes Georgia off as the same pampered type. She's the sister and daughter of famous actors and doesn't trust her attraction to men after her terrible history with Jorge.

Wyatt's dog Reeses steals the book - he's an adorable Jack Russell terrier who causes much of the mayhem. I smiled and even laughed out loud at the dog's antics. It's not that he's undisciplined, but he has the joyful energy typical of the breed.

The story, while unlikely, is delightful as Wyatt and Georgia first have incredibly bad luck but then share heartwarming Christmas experiences thanks to the kindness of strangers and then being with family. The pivotal scene in LA is definitely way over the top, but it fits the generally fluffy tone.

Georgia and Wyatt alternate relating the story in their own words. The writing is engaging, and I enjoyed getting to know these characters. It's well-edited, too; I didn't note any errors throughout. (Well, there are a few "alright"s, but I'm more forgiving of that in a modern setting than when it pops up in historical romance novels).

It's a fun story. Good for a December read.

✨“I love you, Miss Darcy,” he said, his voice a soft rumble. “I know I must drive you crazy…” “You can drive me anywhere,” I said, shushing him with a finger on his lips. “Even crazy in love.” ✨

This was SO ADORABLE, I just knew I was going to love it from the start… um the way Wyatt and Georgia met?? Hilarious 😂 and reeses was a great addition 🐶🐶

And that epilogue 🥲🥲🥲

I now absolutely need to read will and beths story but the question is do I buy it on my kindle or just buy the paperback?? Because we all know I’ll probably just end up getting the paperback either way so does it really even matter?🤭

Also adding this quote bc it’s just too cute:🥹
“It was fun to tease Georgia about the Christmas miracle thing. But the real miracle was her. How she stumbled into my life and suddenly the world was beautiful again.”

I don't know what's dumber...this book or the fact that I read the whole thing.
.
This isn't a good P&P retelling, which is fine. But it's also not a good cheesy Christmas romance, either.
.
I'm glad I borrowed this instead of buying it.

Drove me a bit crazy

A bit weird in the first half. Wyatt comes off as socially awkward and then his big moment interrupts her brother’s wedding…. Kind of lame… he could have waited until after the ceremony to talk to Georgia but he didn’t and that rubbed me the wrong way. There wasn’t much character growth in this - I think the story was too focused on all the wrong things happening to them.

Modern Austenesque sequel to the author's own modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice - Love and Loathing. It's set in present-day USA, where Will Darcy is a mega-movie star who's acted in a stage production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. There, he met the love of his life, Beth Bennet, as in canon.

This story focusses on Darcy's sister Georgia, who's trying to get across the USA in time for her brother's Christmas Day wedding. The elements decide to intervene and her journey, instead of being a plain and simple flight, turns into a road trip. Many mishaps occur along the way as she first encounters Wyatt at the airport and then ends up accompanying him along the way. He doesn't know who she is and she doesn't know he's a would-be reporter, so there's plenty of scope for many misunderstandings as they make their way across country.

As with the previous work, chapters are told from both protagonists' points of view, which worked really well, as before. They didn't alternate as such but we get maybe two or three from one of them and then the same from the other.

I love the humour in this book and can totally relate to the clumsiness demonstrated by both of the main characters at various points during the story. If it happens to them in the book, similar things have happened to me in Real Life! The book to which this is a sequel was a particular favourite of mine and this is no different, although the tone is slightly different, if you get my meaning. The humour that was present before is definitely more in the foreground here.

If you've not read Love and Loathing, then although it'd help to have read it before, you'd more than likely get on OK with this. There are some romantic scenes, but nothing explicit, so anyone could read this without any sensibilities being offended.

I read this as an ARC and while a review was hoped for, there was no requirement for one or for it to be favourable. As it happens, the five stars I've given it are my honest opinion.

A recent read that I finished on the 25th was driving Miss Darcy by @gigiblume .I love books that are based in the Jane Austen world or novels! This series Backstage Romance has a total of 4 books so far, and was told you can read them in any order.
If you are a fan of road trip stories set around Christmas time this is a good one to check out! This was sweet holiday read with clean romance, fun plot and cute moments.

I didn't fully understand all the pop culture references but that could have just been me, so I'm not sure. This book also reminded me of a Hallmark movie at times 😁❤

This was a cheesy, eye-roll inducing read. It’s a very loose Pride & Prejudice retelling & focuses on Darcy’s sister as she tries to get home for Christmas and for her brother’s wedding.

I went in with low expectations & they were met. I found the characters to be bland & never felt a connection to them. While there were some good moments, mostly involving the dog, the rest of the book just fell flat.

This is a fabulous contemporary romantic comedy. A comedy of errors, really... Fast-paced, snarky, and fun! It is part of a series, so best read in order to avoid confusion about characters. I highly recommend this book.

Robert Frost is known for saying, “…Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.”  This story I feel is the embodiment of that quote, Wyatt and Georgia couldn’t have been anymore different even if they tried, but perhaps why I loved it so much!

Georgia, Julliard student, little sister to Hollywood celeb, just trying to get back to California for her brother’s Christmas wedding!  Wyatt, easy-going, cinnamon roll of a man, plus Reeses (his faithful dog), is on his way west for a job opportunity!  As fate would have it Reeses would be head over heels for Georgia, enough to the point of breaking her phone!  The joyous “luck” of the season would continue as they ended up sitting next to each other on the plane before rerouted to Iowa!

As things continue to spiral, the pair are forced to go on a whirlwind adventure to get themselves and Reeses to California!  Life or in this case, love, finds a way despite mishap after mishap!  While they may have initially had to lean on each other out of necessity, they soon realize that sticking together could be the ultimate Christmas Miracle!

I love that Gigi Blume adapts Jane Austen for some of her works and making Georgia being representational of Georgiana Darcy, was done right!  This book made me laugh, cry, cringe and everything in between!  This is one those books, that make you work for the happily ever after, but when you do it has been well worth it!  Gigi even recently did a new cover design release and I guarantee you no matter what cover you have, its value is priceless!  Looking forward to adding this my personal paperback shelf!  Bravo!  Encore!

The characters are wonderfully well written and fleshed out making them believeable.

I loved this story so much that I was so sad when I read the last page. At least there was an epilogue to help me out, lol! The epilogue perfectly wrapped up the story and was sweet. I stayed up way to past my bedtime to get as much reading in as I could. Gigi Blume was able to get this reader to connect with the couple. I loved Georgia and Wyatt and was rooting for them the whole time. This story had a fabulous blend of wit, dry humor and sarcasm. A triple threat! Oh, yes the romance was just right. I found myself going between laughing and thinking "awww" and just smiling the whole time. Great interactions with the h & H. Great dialogue. Great side characters that helped round the story out and help it progress nicely. Great ending. I thought the way the the couples conflict as well as the ending was satisfying. The1st kissing scene that I thought was the correct blend of sweet and swoony and not overshare. I also really enjoyed reading the 1st in this series Love and Loathing but I think this is my new favorite.

Hard to write a review for this delightful book! I laughed so hard at some points, shook my head at others, had tears in my eyes at some touching moments, but overall this was a totally enjoyable story to read. I am from Nebraska and the early parts of the book had me laughing out loud. The author has really developed this story with vivid imagery, small town America in its many forms, the vitality pets add to our lives, the goodness that is inherent in some people. Full of so many differing emotions. The character development is perfect. You will fall in love with Georgia, Reeces, and Wyatt and all the various people whom they come in contact with in this easy to read, clean, sweet, Christian themed romance for this Christmas season. I think you would really enjoy this story.

I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review.

Driving Miss Darcy is the third book in the Backstage Romance series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone as well. I have not yet read the previous books and found I enjoyed this one just the same!

This was such a cute holiday romance... very much with all the Hallmark-movie vibes! If that's not your thing, this one might not be either... but if you love the sometimes predictable but always charming holiday romances, this will be right up your alley. It certainly was mine. I really enjoyed both Georgia and Wyatt, but I have to say Wyatt really made this one for me. He's a little bit disaster prone which lead to many laugh out loud moments throughout the book and I loved every one of them. It was a quick read filled with all the holiday spirit you could ask for!

Driving Miss Darcy is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.

Summary:
If you love Pride & Prejudice, this story is a cute, modern take on Georgiana. There are enough similarities to her original character to make it nostalgic, but enough differences to make it fun and easy to enjoy.

Stars: 5/5
Spice: 0/5 (Sweet)

I’ll start by saying I love Pride & Prejudice, so I was already excited to read this book. For me, it didn’t disappoint. I loved Wyatt & Georgia’s relationship development from start to finish. Their meet-cute is one of my favorites. As complete strangers, they wind up on a road trip together after their plane is grounded. The shenanigans they went through just to make it to where they were trying to go had me thoroughly entertained. I really enjoyed seeing the snippets of characters from Pride & Prejudice weaved into this story. If you love Pride & Prejudice, give this book a try!

Awww I loved this book so much!! Georgia is such a wonderful, genuine, and humorous woman, with enough sweet spunk to keep you smiling throughout the story. And Wyatt is both swoon worthy and adorably nerdy at the same time; a whirlwind of handsome chaos that I couldn’t get enough of. And let’s not forget sweet Reeses, Wyatt’s dog. He was an integral character in his own right! I loved the way this trio fell together begrudgingly, at least on the part of the two humans, to try to get to California by Christmas. What should have been a fairly straightforward trip turns out to be quite the journey. I enjoyed every moment and felt as if I were swept up in the adventure alongside them.

It was also a treat to see appearances from some of the characters from the other books in the series!

BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Georgia Darcy is trying to get home to L.A. for her brother Will’s wedding. The bad luck begins when she gets tangled in Wyatt’s dog’s leash and cracks her phone. Then she has to sit with him on the flight to Chicago. And THEN she ends up sharing a car with him when her connecting flight gets cancelled due to snow. As the two trek across the country to get to L.A. by Christmas, misfortune and hilarity ensue.

I found myself cracking up in this book. Georgia and Wyatt just stumble on misfortune after misfortune, from rental cars falling in lakes to robberies in diners. But they also experience the kindness of strangers. This story was so cute and such a fun Christmas read. I could definitely see this being a cute holiday romcom.

Just plain fun!

There have been a couple of shared ride Christmas stories from Hallmark that I've enjoyed over the years, & this one was just as much a pleasure.

Wyatt is a bumbling but lovable guy, and just what Georgia needs. If she doesn't kill him first.

The events that take place are quite amusing, though there was one plot point that was such a stereotype that it was obvious it was coming & I was disappointed that the author hadn't done something more original.

Still, the story was quite entertaining, and I loved the way it ended!

I loved reading this story. It's a quick, easy read that encompasses the spirit of Christmas and dealing with traveling at holiday time. The reader encounter a young woman going to California to be a bridesmaid for her famous brother's private wedding and a young man also going to California at the request of a friend to get the scoop of the year. Add in nothing but laugh out loud problems starting at the airport in New York going through a downed flight (in the middle of nowhere) and finding a way to get to California on time and most of all the interesting Christmas celebrations they come upon traveling and a funny, sweet romance with a HEA and you get one great read.

There’s something about a contemporary P&P spinoff that melts my heart into a puddle of goo and Gigi Blume hits the spot!

Georgia and Wyatt have a hilarious meet cute, courtesy of Reeses the dog. From that first entanglement to every single disaster that follows, it was all about the swoon and laughs. In a slightly chaotic and “what next” fashion, this story unfolds in a charming Christmassy way and is full of modern Austen counterparts.

I really enjoyed this fun Christmas romance and I’m curious about the other books in the series now.

Content: mild romance

What a witty, wonderful Christmas story featuring characters that you would love to know in real life! There was lots of clean humor, an adorable and mischievous dog, a smart, kind young woman and a handsome man whose luck could be compared to Charlie Brown. They were stranded at an airport at Christmastime and wind up as an unlikely trio sharing a car in an effort to get to their destinations in California. I've enjoyed this book so much that now I need to read books 1 and 2 in this series. Highly recommend!

What a cute, funny, romantic comedy. It was funny how Georgia and Dog Man aka Wyatt kept bumping into each other on their way to Los Angeles from New York City via Chicago and a few more places due to a snow storm. I laughed and enjoyed all of the bad things that seemed to happen to Wyatt. He just had a string of bad luck that unfortunately kept involving Georgia too. I enjoyed how their road trip, due to the snow storm finally ended and Georgia made it to Pemberley and her brother's wedding. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Hilarious Austin inspired romance. This book keeps you rolling in your seats, as one mishap after another happens. Wyatt and Georgia come from totally different worlds, rich and poor. Their lives collide when a plane is grounded due to weather. Georgia needs to get to California, Pemberley, for her brother's wedding on Christmas. Will the dynamic duo make it? Can they overcome all the obstacles in their path? Will they find true love? Find out in this well written story with Jane Austin inspired characters. I highly recommend this book! Happy Reading!

Cute little comedy of errors type RomCom. If something can go wrong for these kids it will. A perfect storm for everything to go off the rails. While it is highly improbable that this would actually happen to people, is certainly is possible. I just thought it was fun to sit back and enjoy their ride, so to speak. The meet-cute was fun and only the forced proximity could take them for enemies to falling in love. A quick read for a little Christmastime romance.

Book 2 of 2023 — Driving Miss Darcy by Gigi Blume

I’m a little late as this is a Christmas book, but it showed up as a recommendation and I couldn’t pass on it! A light read, set at Christmas, and Jane Austen inspired? Sign me up!

This book was adorable! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The settings are detailed and interesting. While the plot was somewhat predictable, I still found it cute enough to make up for it! There’s drama and humor and lightness and joy.

I think I’ll check out a few other of Ms. Blume’s books when I need a pick me up!

I loved this holiday romance! It was so cute and funny. Georgia & Wyatt meet cute wasn’t very cute at all they both automatically judged each other. She thought he was a rude playboy who craves attention and he thought she was a stuck up rich little princess. They get stuck traveling together with Wyatt’s little dog Reese’s who loves Georgia. On their adventure they really get to know each other and it’s equal parts funny, cute, and magical. I love the small town of Bethlehem that they discovered and I love the people there who treated them like family instead of guests. This book was brilliant. I loved every bit of it! Highly recommend & not just for Christmas time!

This is an absolutely delightful story. I’m not going to rehash the blurb you already have no doubt read. Except to tell you that whatever you have read or heard about this book could not possibly have done it justice. Yes, I really did like it that much! I give it 7 STARS.
The storyline is original and fun. Sure, it has a bit of angst, but it also has lots of laughter. And best of all this book is filled with love. I’m a fan of Gigi Blume. This book only enhanced that fact.
