I didn't know I was a witch... until someone wanted me dead.
Here I am, Lyla Ford, broke and starving, minding my own business, when twin sorcerers Tinniel and Nazeriah claim that I’m a witch from an ancient line. Not only that, they request an audience. Who do they think I am? Royalty?
I would never entertain the idea of magic, let alone the request to become a tracker for the two paranormal bounty hunters who work for the Federation of Magic. That is, until the ridiculously handsome Tinniel tells me that my missing mother is the leader of the Federation. Who knew?
When Tinniel gets kidnapped, a compulsion to find them both overtakes me, forcing me to work with the Federation. I have a feeling that if I don’t do as I’m told, the ancient line I descend from will die out. With my brutal, bloody murder.

Oh I loved this. It grabbed me from the very first chapter & I just didn’t want to put it down! With incredible world building this storyline is exciting and gripping and twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat! With great likeable characters there’s mystery, drama, humour and magic and I eagerly await the next book!
I really struggled with this book, I wanted to like it, but found it juvenile and lacked a good story line. The main character came across as rude and inept. She was suppose to be good at kick boxing but it was hard to believe. I won't be recommending this book.
It was a good story, interesting characters but not a lot of development or detail. I was more confused than not while reading it, and felt like a lot of important detail had been left out. It felt like the movie adaptation of a book, where everything is just pieced together to make sense but it doesn’t give you the whole story.
The exposition tried for excitement and landed on dull. There was nothing particularly engaging about any of the characters or the plot. Lyla had amnesia, then ran into 2 guys who magically repaired her amnesia.
This is book 1 in the Federation of Magic series. I really enjoyed this book, it had plenty of action and did a good job introducing the characters and their world. Looking forward to the next, can't wait to see whats in store for Lyla and the twins.
‘The Witch & The Bounty Hunter’ is book one in Rachel Medhurst’s Federation of Magic series.
Lyla Ford has no memories of her life beyond a month ago. She has no idea who or what she is. When two mysterious, hunky, hot twins show up for her help she is about to be thrown in a world of magic. With the help from these twins she gets her memories back of her life, but it also brings up more questions about who her mum really was and why she had no idea she was a witch.
Firstly wow, just wow!!! This book has it all going for it, humour, action, mystery, magic, secrets, witty banter and friendship. From the very first word to the last I was hooked mind, body and soul. Ms Medhurst has done a fantastic job to bring this world to life. The characters are relatable, strong, and interesting. The storyline is fast paced that is very addictive and intriguing.
Lyla is such a wonderful character, she is strong, bada**, witty and a little crazy 😂. She may be naive to the supernatural world but she takes in and grows as she learns. Her internal mumbling and banter is hilarious, she had me in stitches. Especially every time Naz was around and would give her a look it would make it all the funnier.
Tinniel is the silent, mysterious, grouchy, guy that you are attracted to when you know you shouldn’t be, cause he will break your heart. But underneath all that he is just a little broken and misunderstood. He is the protector and doesn’t like it when things are out of his hands. I would like to get to know more about him, hopefully in the next book we might get some of his POV.
I can’t wait to read book two The Witch with an Attitude. I am invested in to see how things work out for Lyla, if she is able to understand her magic better and if she can find her mum.

Amazing job Rachel, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
Lyla Ford doesn't know who she is... she woke a month ago with no idea who she was. The only reason she knows her name is because of a tatoo. Jamie befriended her and gave her a place to live while she tried to get her memories back. She thought her mind was playing tricks on her - flashes of memories that couldn't really be memories, could they? What if you discover you're actually a witch - something you didn't believe existed - and that you were considered royalty - one of the last two from the original blood line? It's up to Naz and Tinniel to help her learn the truth. There's plenty of danger and intrigue as the truth is revealed and Lyla is forced to face a reality she never thought possible. Twists and turns kept the story entertaining; the spark between Lyla and Tinniel laying the groundwork for so many possibilities... but will they get their chance to see things through? Rachel Medhurst has woven an exciting paranormal tale where the impossible becomes possible and the future unknown. The story ends with a cliffhanger of sorts... knew it was coming as this is book one of two, so you shouldn't be surprised. Now to patiently wait for the conclusion to Lyla and Tinniel's story...
This first book of Rachel Medhurst's Federation of Magic series is an action-packed, thrill a minute tale that's full of paranormal characters you can't help but fall in love with. The heroine is a young woman so the book has a bit of a YA feel, but if you don't mind the bloody corpses, it definitely appeals to all ages. There's some mystery, including a missing mom, a little romance (with two hot bounty-hunter brothers how could you expect anything else), lots of action and fisticuffs, and a sardonic, smart-mouth heroine who's tough as nails and, oh ya, who just found out she's actually witch royalty. The story line could be dark and grim, and at times it does take a very serious bent, but mostly, this one is just a fun, detective type romp around London where the heroes and the bad guys just happen to have a few extra assets to call upon. I loved this one and I expect to become a loyal fan of the series.
This book was really easy to get into. The story centres around Lyla, a kickass Witch who has no idea of her heritage, abilities or any idea what her past is. In true Urban Fantasy style, during the course of events, we meet a variety of characters with varying supernatural abilities (as well as some humans), who help her to adapt to her skills and explain who she is and lead her through some fast paced battles whilst she desperately tries to come to terms with her heritage and what that means for her and everyone in her orbit. There is some colourful language, sexual tension and a lot of laughter in this story, that helps things along nicely. Some people may find things slightly vulgar, but it is good natured fun that adds to the feel of the group of acquaintances, destined to be friends and you will find yourself wanting to dive straight into the next book in the series as soon as this is finished. Magic, supernatural creatures and fun, grab a copy and enjoy!
Rachel Medhurst is one of my absolute favorite authors. She’s yet to write a book I haven’t totally enjoyed, so no surprise that I glommed on to a new series by her. That series is Federation of Magic and wow was I right to grab The Witch & the Bounty Hunter (Book 1). I love the idea of an average gal (our heroine, Lyla Ford) suddenly finding out she is a witch and has magical powers. (Frankly, it’s sooo unfair that hasn’t happened to me yet.) Add in a cast that superbly crafted from the eponymous bounty hunters (twin sorcerers Tinniel and Nazeriah) on down, a total kick-a** fantastic plot that is (of course with this author) perfectly written, fantastic world-building and the start of what I can tell - even though this book works stand-alone - will be a great story arc. Great combination. Great book. Easy to highly recommend.
Lyla has no memory of who she is, until she runs into a pair of magical (and handsome) twins, who introduce her to a magical world.
This is a very quick read, with a bit of a cliffhanger ending. Lyla is a witch, whose mother comes from a long line of witches, and she had no idea about any of it... even after she regains her memory. The fast paced story rushes us through Lyla’s introduction to the world of magic, and her learning just how to use her ability to track. There is a hint of romance, a lot of mystery about her mother, and a race against time trying to find some missing people. The book seemed way shorter than it really is, and ends on a bit of a cliffhanger with both the background story incomplete, and a new mystery being presented. This is a quick trip to an imaginative world, that fans of urban fantasy and paranormal mystery will enjoy.
Lyla is a young woman with no memory of her past. Imagine her surprise when two gorgeous warriors find her and tell her she's a witch and royalty, to boot. Naz and his brother, Tinneil, are bounty hunters looking for her help. She is thrown in head first not knowing if she's insane or not. Naz is hilarious. He's a mind reader and he answers her questions before she even asks them. Getting a handle on her magic is the first order of business and finding her missing mother is next. These kidnappers just opened a can of whooping worms that they will have to fight to try to stay alive. Another fantastic series from Rachel Medhurst. Do not miss this one.
I had a very hard time putting this book down, eventually having to after falling asleep from exhaustion and my kindle kept smacking me in the face. I picked it right back up the second I could the next day and finished it. I absolutely Love Lyla - she has a great mixture of sass, scepticism & strengh - yet somewhat vulnerable. I love all of the other characters as well and feel that the Author dropped enough tid bits of information to grab the reader while still leave us wanting more. I am not normally an insta romance fan but I like how this one does not overtake the story. It seems more natural occurring. I am very excited for book 2.
Started alittle slow. But if your memories are gone-your name on a tattoo on your arm-well you hope that is your name and birthday. Are the voices a sign your crazy? or echos of a memory? She has refuge with a kind soul, who wants nothing from her... twin males-hunky-cute men-with that bad boy arrogance... then wow, your not only well trained in kick-boxing...your a witch? what the...? as the story races from there..you find friends, allies, frenemies and other who dont fit in any of those places ..... Good read cant wait for the next one!
Lyla didn't know who she was. They kept telling her that she was a witch and was royalty. How could that be? Magic wasn't real and she couldn't be royalty since she was a starving survivor. However, things are not always as they seem and danger is creeping up on her. Two hot Sorcerers help her and work to change her mind. She realizes that she must embrace her heritage if she is to find her kidnapped mother and friends. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.
The action moved slowly and was uneven. The characters were brilliantly portrayed, but the plot has some rough spots. The book feels awkward. The main character has some mommy issues and they are all over the place. The whole oh, he is the man for me routine gets old fast. The characters have inconsistent values and there is a lack of energy.
The potential was there, but the execution was less than thrilling.
Note, this author likes to sneak a hook in the paragraph to blatantly encourage you to continue reading her series. Given the book, why wouldn't she?
this book grabbed my attention from the very start, Lyla is on her own after her mothers disappearance. She is approached by two handsome men Tinniel and Nazeriah. The tell her that her mothers been kidnapped and she is the only one who can track her as she is a witch. the characters are well written and interesting. there is danger, sarcasm and romance what more could you ask for. A brilliant book I can't wait for the next in this series
Lyla has truly landed herself in a new reality. But for the first time in her life she feels ‘right’. Plus, she is a strong main female character with good instinct and common sense. I haven’t felt like screaming, “no! Don’t do that!” Once. This is great and her new friends really seem to welcome and like her. Thanks Rachel Medhurst for knocking this out of the park . But I still hate cliffhangers, lol! Waiting on the next one!
Lyla woke up with amnesia, now her memory has been stimulated. Her Mother has been kidnapped, and she and her Mother are royal witches. Welcome to the world of witches, warlocks and sorcerers. She meets twin sorcerers, one with whom she bonds, as they reach her how to use her powers.
Lyla Ford is a amnesia patient, who is out of work, and getting food from a food bank. She not homeless because of a good Samaritan. Then, two men, dressed nicely track her down outside the food bank with a crazy story. She a witch? And her mother, who's missing is their boss? Riigghhtt.
Imagine bunking with an unlikely friend, when you thought things were rough. Then learning your past isn’t anything like you thought. Add new friends, who start going missing, the hunt for the one person who can explain it all, and enough sass to keep you chuckling: it’s a recipe for a lasting series. I cannot wait for the next book.
I got so involved in the book that when I got to the end I was completely surprised! The story was really very entertaining as we got to know Lyla and the gang, and as Lyla came to terms with being a witch. There were some good battle scenes and some gruesome bits, too. Can't wait to read the next book.
Characters and plot engaged me from the start. It might’ve been a little slow to get rolling but, once it did, it didn’t stop. I’ll be continuing with the next book for certain.
Mystery and magic mixed together in this new urban fantasy filled with witches, vampires and much more! I really enjoyed the story and loved the characters. It was full of action and kept me entertained the whole way. I can’t wait for more.
One day you are so cold and hungry you are barely making it and don’t even know who you are. Then you start finding out your more powerful than you ever could have imagined. It is going to be a bumpy ride, hold on!
This is not one of the best supernatural books I've read but it's got adventure and some exciting twice. With Lyla not remembering who she is to being thrown into a whole new world, I look forward to what comes in the next book.
This was a good read, it was something I saw randomly while drilling through Amazon kindle reads and I'm glad I decided to give it a read. The characters are good, the writing is well done and the storyline is compelling. I definitely want to read more.
Lots of action to keep you glued to the pages or ereader. I’m enjoying reading about Lyla finding her heritage. The other characters are also engaging.
