Cocky Hero Club

Sexy Savior

Rate this book
Ben Schilling hasn’t always been a superhero; it just sort of happened one day as he walked home from the subway. Since then, he’s found himself doing good deeds whenever necessary. Sometimes he sees an opportunity to help, like walking an old woman across a busy intersection, while other times, like the time he attempted to save that woman from falling into traffic.
Okay, that’s not a great example because that woman didn’t get it. She punched him for his trouble. Some people just don’t understand.

Allison Kirby doesn’t need anyone’s help. So, when some jerk tries to help her get her stiletto unstuck from the grate in the sidewalk, she did what any self-respecting woman would do—she decked him. Twice. And wow, it felt good.

When the two end up working together, sparks fly, but not necessarily the good kind.

For Allison, Ben helps her see that there are true superheroes in the world while Ben realizes that not everyone needs rescuing––sometimes all we need is love.

What an entertaining read this turned out to be! Ben and Allison were great together! Their story was super fun and had me smiling from beginning to end! I especially enjoyed Ben because he was a relatable guy next door type of person. He wasn’t your typical cocky (no pun intended) hero and it just added a relatable aspect to the story. Can’t wait to read some more from this new to me author soon!!

When Ben's superhero savior tendencies get him a black eye, will it be enough to put him off the gorgeous woman he tried to help? What about when she shows up at his company as an independent investigator brought in by his boss to figure out what's going on in Ben's department?

I love that Ben is not the alphahole so prevalent in romances these days. Don't get me wrong, I love me an alphahole, but it's also nice to read something every once in awhile where the hero is just a nice, sweet guy who likes helping people. That's what Ben is, and it made me swoon quite honestly. And I really like that he was paired with a feisty, take no bs woman like Allison. This is a sweet addition to the Cocky Hero Club with two adorable characters that I absolutely fell hard for.

A mixed bag for me
4 stars

This is my first Kayt Miller but one of many Cocky Hero books I’ve read. I tend to inadvertently gravitate towards the books based in the world of Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s Stuck-Up Suit. Graham from that book appears in this one - as does the Ask Ida column - but all the Cocky Hero books stand completely alone. No need to have read or know anything about any other book to read, understand and enjoy this one.

In this story, Ben is a marketing manager in a department fraught with drama. Allison is a consultant brought in to get to the bottom of the problems. They start off wary of each other due to their initial meeting but it soon turns into a friendship and then more.

Ben is an absolute sweetheart and I fell for him instantly. The author manages to make him a great blend of strong, quirky and sweet. A lot of his appeal comes from the way he is with his rescue dog, Sky. Any man who loves his dog as much as Ben loves Sky, is the perfect kind of hero in my eyes.

I liked Allison, too, although I did feel I knew less of her than I knew of Ben. She’s driven and strong and she does seem to hold her own in a hostile environment. I do wish she could have been less professional when it came to Ben - but having said that, I probably wouldn’t have liked the worry of whether they would get caught fooling around in the office!

As a whole, this is a strange one to review, if I’m honest. For the majority of the book, I was thinking it would likely get 4 or 5 stars. I enjoyed the writing style - it was easy, fresh and eminently readable; the office intrigue, while overshadowing the romance for much of the book, kept me both entertained and guessing; and as I mentioned, I liked the characters.

But as soon as we find out who was behind the office issues, it just went downhill for me. Okay, fine, it got me so friggin’ annoyed. Without spoiling the ‘whodunnit’, the outcome was so unbelievably sexist, I was disgusted. It was all so ridiculously unprofessional. And don’t get me started on the fact that Allison suddenly got offered the Director of Marketing role (which is what it was) without experience or training. Aaargh!

The main storyline in the book was definitely the comings and goings in the office over the romance. Had that been resolved satisfactorily, I wouldn’t have considered this worth mentioning as Allison and Ben’s relationship was still in there and it was pretty much adorable. There was a teeny tiny bit of sex at the end but other than that it’s hand-holding and kissing. Again - adorable.

Oh, and the idea of Ben as a superhero was again, cute, but it didn’t really add anything to the story other than as a reason for Ben’s actions when meeting Ali. And as a way to “explain” Sky.

So if it was 5 stars pre-whodunnit - and definitely 3 afterwards, I’ll give the book 4 stars overall. The chapters were nice and short and I was always interested in the story and keen to read just a little more. Just a few minor niggles for me but I’d be happy to read more from Kayt Miller in the future.

Ben works at Morgan Financial by day but when it comes to his evening he is focused on his dog Skye and trying to avert others from danger which is more a matter of circumstances rather than choice. When the latest person he tried to help wasn’t so appreciative he never expected to see the beautiful woman again so finding out she was hired to investigate allegations of misconduct in the company where he works doesn’t bode well for his future.

Allison is a consultant who needs to ensure that she does a good job as her financial future depends on it. Finding out that man she believes tried to accost her is one of people she is investigating has her wondering who the real Ben is.

Ben is the perfect mix of sweet and sexy and there is no denying the chemistry between them so keeping things professional so they don’t destroy both their careers could be the biggest challenge of all.

Sexy Savior had my attention with it's Clark Kent cover and matching blurb. As a kid, I was a big comic book fan and this romance is pretty close.

Rescues of all kinds are the new side gig for this everyday marketing man. He meets his Lois Lane at work, cue the link to Graham Morgan and Morgan Financial Holdings.

While it was fun to see Graham and Dear Ida's quick cameo, Sexy Savior didn't manage to get off the ground for me. I wasn't in love with Ben or Alison. Neither character stood out for me. The situation had potential. Workplace drama, investigation, and clash of characters were rpe for the taking. It just didn't click for me.

All of these quotes are from the MMC (narrated by Jason Clarke):

“Good girl”

“Shh, I’ve got you, girl.”

“Sweet angel,” I whisper. “I love you so much, Sky. You’re the best friend I’ve ever had.” And it’s true. She is. “I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry.”

I’m holding my girl close to my chest because her little body is shaking.

“Sky?” I say softly. When her head jerks back, our eyes meet. Sky makes a whimpering sound that breaks my goddamn heart. I feel my eyes water and let the tears fall. “Baby girl,” I say with a husky voice. Reaching my fingers through the gate, I try to touch her.

... So these quotes would NORMALLY have me swooning - but literally ALL of the best lines in this book

Very slow to get into this.

Almost put this down. Wasn’t enjoying it and the hero just came across as a nerd/jerk- initially. The story ended up being okay, not my favorite.

Another fantastic addition to the world of cocky hero’s!!!!
I’m loving so much about this world of cocky hero’s, I loving finding new authors and their amazing characters and I love the cameo appearances from some of my favourite book boyfriends from previous reads and Sexy Savior is set in Morgan Financial so that means Graham Morgan making an appearance. This is Ben Shilling and Allison Kirby’s story and boy do they have an entertaining tale to tell and I’m sure like me you will be captivated from the first page to last line.
Ben seems to find himself in situations that need a hero, he never meant to be the person who comes to the rescue of human and animals, it just seems to happen and that’s how he first meets Allison when he grabs her leg while trying to stop her getting knocked over with her shoe stuck in a grate.
Allison wasn’t in the mood to be rescued and she gives Ben a black eye so imagine her surprise when she finds herself face to face with Ben at Morgan Financial where she has been hired as a consultant to sort out the marketing team.....
This story ticked all my boxes, I laughed, I swooned and I fell hard and fast for Ben and his superhero tendencies, I loved watching this couple’s relationship shift as the story unfolded and off course I loved catching up with Graham Morgan. Kayt Miller is a new author for me but that’s going to change because I love her strong style of writing and I love the characters she created in this wonderful read, so I guess all that’s left for me to say is please one click this gem you won’t be disappointed.

"I can't speak, so I just nod. While he looks into my eyes, I feel his hand slide to the side of my neck and into my hair. I love that."

4 Save Me Stars!!! Great addition to the club!! I was hooked!

Ben has always been that guy that's been the one who's always at the right place at the right time. Always saving someone or something. But somehow he can't seem to get that same thinking or skill together at his company. Bogged down by numerous complaints, Alison is hired to come in and figure out why. Alison is a no nonsense woman who isn't interested in being saved by Ben by any means, but she can't even resist his charms. And that's when the fun begins!

This is the first book I've read by Kayt and I can tell you it won't be the last! I loved the storyline, and I loved the development of the characters! Ben is such a character... he's fun and so sweet, you can't help but fall in love! And I love that Alison isn't your normal female lead, and that's quite refreshing! I can't wait to read more from Kayt!

Ben Schilling is a relatable guy next door type of person.  He has been hailed as a hero...but, he's mainly in the right spot at the right time. He see's when people are in need of help and helps. But, his mistake helping Allison is simply helping. Allison gets her foot stuck in a grate in the road, and Ben is just trying to help her. When she gives him a black eye, he realizes that she doesn't want / need help.

When Allison Kirby shows up at Ben's work, and they are introduced, he knows he is in for. He can't stop watching Allison. Even though Allison seems to be very afraid of him, he isn't sure if it's him that's scaring her, or if it's just males in general. Allison is a consultant who has been hired by his company to find out who is causing internal problems.

Will Allison be able to get to the bottom of the issue in the workplace? Will she be able to see who is truly to blame? Or will Allison just blame Ben and not find the root cause of the work issues? Allison will have to dig deep to find out who has been stirring up problems.

I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.

I really enjoyed Ben and Alison's story, it had all the feels, and a who done it so you had to keep reading to find out who done it Lol Ben works at Morgan Financial, and there's a woman who gets hired as a consultant to find out why a particular department is having so many issues. When Ben sees who it is he figures his days are numbered, you see he's "met" Alison before, and he's got the black eye to prove it. Ben was trying to be a good Samaritan and help Alison but he freaked her out and she nailed him in the face and she thinks he's a creep. Her opinion of him changes as she gets to know him though and she sees he's a pretty decent guy, then she sees him with his dog and that pretty much clinches it. At that point things start to shift between them, and they spend a little time outside of work together. Will they see where things can go between them, or will they put it on hold while she is consulting at Morgan...will she discover what the issue is, and or who is the issue in the Marketing department? You'll just have to read this awesome story from Kayt Miller!!

I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have seen the character of Ben in other stories by other authors in this series and his character really intrigues me. He seemed like such a cool character that I really wanted to find out more about him and see him fall for someone.

Ben was such a different guy than I pictured in my head. The author of this story who is one I had never read before. Well I was really impressed with how she brought Ben to life and created such an interesting story. It was also a really fun story.

Ben Schiller works in marketing for Graham. He has an assistant Clive, and Clive has gone a little crazy. Why has Clive gone a little nuts? Well that is what Alison is hired to find out.

This story had lots of surprises and intrigues along the way and I highly enjoyed the plot of this story. I also loved the enemies to friends to love for Ben and Alison.

This was such a fun read!

Ben and Alison’s story was worth it all.

I really enjoyed Ben and Alison's story, it had all the feels, and a mystery with it. All of it kept you reading to find out all things. Ben works at Morgan Financial, a new consultant leads to Ben thinking his side gig is up.
Ben has "met" Alison before, and he's got the black eye to prove it. Ben was trying to be a good Samaritan and help Alison, but he freaked her out and she nailed him in the face. Alison things Ben is a bit of a weirdo. Her opinion of him changes as she gets to know him though and she sees he's a good guy. But spending time together and seeing how things are is just part of the story. They other part is the problem she uncovers in the marketing department.
This was a quick and fun read. Alison is a feisty and straight forward kind of girl. This was a 4/5 read for me. This was also my first time reading this author. I enjoyed her writing style.

Ben is a man who just likes to help people which has made him a superhero these days as he finds himself in the right place to help others, and most are okay with his helping them. However, he actually tries to save a woman when her heel gets caught in a grate but he's injured in the process since she wasn't having it. Allison is that woman who was so offended about anyone trying to help her since she's a very independent woman. Little did these two know that they would come face to face again when she's been hired at Morgan Financial as a consultant to help get things in order, and it just so happens it's in Ben's department. From there on out, they start to really get each other, and the sparks are starting to fly, but there's still that whole issue in his department that needs to be sorted out. So yeah, Sexy Savior is a story that will engage the reader with it's original storyline plus you really need to see how it all played out out, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Ben gets into trouble with his hero-like tendencies and it seems like his life is going down the drain as a result. The lady he got into trouble with? She - Alison - is investigating some issues in his department, and a lot of things aren't adding up, making him look not-so-good. But Ben is determined to not only clear his name, but also to show Alison that he's a more than decent guy.

I'm still not too sure what to say about this book. On the one hand, I really liked that this book was purely about romance between regular, blue collar, non-millionaire people. But I got lost somewhere in-between all the office drama. Though I was happy to "see" Graham in this one, it wasn't enough for me to totally love the book. Lovers of pets and sweet romances will enjoy it, nonetheless.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, which I listened to via audiobook. Jason Clarke is amazing and I have always loved his gruff growls voice. I could listen to him narrate anything but this book was also fun so double win. Grace Grant was good although her male voice is a little weak. Generally though, it was a fun listen.

The story was cute- I loved how Ben tried to save people. I have to admit, this book included Graham who was one of the original “heroes” and I was not a huge fan of him on this rendition. He was so mean and cold. I liked Allison and felt like she was a strong character. The story was paced well although the end felt a little long and I have to admit that what Ben did annoyed the heck out of me and lowered him in my estimation. Overall, though, It was a fun way to spend a few hours especially given the narrators.

This is a fantastic addition to this amazing series and is Ben and Allison’s story. When Ben and Allison meet they do not get off to the best of starts as she has her heel stuck in a grate and he comes to her rescue, which results in him being elbowed in the face and his foot getting stomped on. They meet again with Bes sporting a black eye and a limp when Allison is hired as a consultant in Morgan Financials to get to the bottom of why there are issues in marketing department which Ben runs. This is a well written flawless story which is fun, humorous, entertaining, and an all-round light-hearted and all-consuming read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend for all readers.

Another fabulous book to add the the Cocky Hero collection of stories. This was my first ready from Kayt Miller, I love finding new authors.

Ben and Allison’s first encounter wasn’t much to write home about, his chivalry didn’t do much for her, Clark Kent isn’t what she needs in her life. She is tasked by her boss to be a consultant to find out what’s up in the marketing department, but what she in encounters is the man that saved her.

Follow these two on their discovery of one another, it’s a quick but sweet story that will hook you from the first page. Also, I love catching up with other characters in the Cocky world

A modern day super hero, Ben seems to be in the right place at the right time. At least for the people he ends up saving. Most of the time, the people are grateful, this one time he ended up with a black eye. And the person who blackened his eye shows up to investigate anonymous grievances at his workplace, which happens to be Morgan Financial Holdings. Alison is all kinds of wary around him. The attraction between the two is there. The mysterious file of grievances was a little bit anticlimactic but nonetheless provided interest in this story. I became invested in this couple. Cute HEA story!

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

Ben is just a normal guy who finds himself in the right place at the right time saving people. But he saves someone who didn't need his help in the form of a sassy thing named Allison. Their meeting was met with a black eye and a bruise, but they are about to meet again and Ben's gonna have to be on his best behavior. Allison is there to do a job and that is to find out who is messing up and who's trying to start stuff. When Ben and Allison meet again it is an attraction, but they both have a job to do. Can they do it without falling into bed? Can they work together to find out who is trying to sabotage Ben's department? Love this story so much and couldn't get enough.

This was my first time reading this author and I was pleased with how much I liked it. I think this Sexy Nerd / Super Hero is adorable. The way he loves his dog is adorable. The way he thinks he has become a super hero is adorable. She is ok. I don't find her as adorable, but she comes around to not being annoying fairly quickly. The storyline about the company at risk is ok, and there is little angst other than the career issue, but I like that as a likable guy he sees he needs to be willing to wait out of respect for her and her ambitions and he learns from his mistakes like a good cinnamon roll hero should.

Wow what a great fun read by Kayt who was a new author to me. Ben and Alison have a wonderful chemistry despite getting off on the wrong foot. I was hooked from the start and I couldn’t put it down and this book had me laughing out loud to being on the edge of my seat in anticipation. Plus add in a cute dog this book was a wonderful read. This book is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an arc for my honest opinion.

This is the first time reading a book by this author. This story is about Ben and Alison. Ben seemed to always been in the right spot at the right time to be Alison's hero, and seriously what girl doesn't love having someone save her! I know I wouldn't mind him saving me. These two have an amazing chemistry between them, despite how they met. This was a very light easy read and I really enjoyed it.

He's no hero. She's no damsel in distress. Despite all the reasons they shouldn't work, there proves to be one glaringly obvious reason that they do. Sexy Savior is about having the strength to be vulnerable when the world seems determined to be against you. Miller pulls at the heart with an accuracy that is chillingly, beautiful and abundantly unique. These characters will stay on your mind and in your heart for days to come.

Ben had this sexy side opportunity going for him, when one day he saves a dog from the sky... Sounds outrageous. Right. Ever since though he has been able to protect others, Alison though ended up not being as appreciative of his actions.

With now a mystery new woman assessing the department the last person he expected to see was Alison again. Guest stars of Graham, Dear Ada make an appearance can they help this pairing on their journey together or will things lay in the way?

Ben & Allison had one hell of a first meeting. It reminded me of Wedding Planner(must watch) Ben goes and rescues her and he end up with a black eye. Ben is labelled as everyone's heroe and he has a dog called Sky. He loves his dog❤ Ali is a strong and determined character who...starts to see it's okay be saved once in a while. I love that they adopted a dog called Blue 6 months later. Their first dog together.
This was a funny and adorable story. Ben I love your geeky glasses ❤❤

Ben is a good guy. He the guy you can trust. But his company is another thing. Alison is hired to help him figure out his company and the many complaints it has gotten.
Alison is a serious woman and will not let Ben in to save her. However it isn't long before she lets him in.

These two worked well together and their connection was fierce throughout the story. I loved them together. An amazing story!

Ben always seems to be in the right place at the right time to be the hero in situations.

Alison has been employed to work out why a complaint has been made against the marketing department, she has to work out who is doing what but when her investigations start to unravel what else will come light.

A light hearted fun, easy to read book.
