She wasn’t supposed to have it. It was power of the foulest kind.
Centuries after the coasts were destroyed, the Council Lords govern the ruins of Eurasia, and her ancestors are nothing more than myth. Abandoned as a child, Amelia is forced to hide her ability from the very people who raised her. These benevolent sisters would send their warrior monks to hunt her down if they ever discovered her secret. When a demon attacks her temple, Amelia becomes the last of an ancient sect tasked with preventing the apocalypse. Duty-bound to complete the sacred ritual, she flees across a war-primed continent to the only safe place left, the holy city of Lhasa. But is she really safe? Accompanying her are a blind man with an enigmatic past, an orphan boy, and a vengeful prince. One of them is sworn to kill her kind – unless the demon and its master find her first. Will her struggle for self-discovery taint the pure heart required for the ritual, or will the love of her newfound family doom her to be the harbinger of the earth’s destruction?
Discover the true meaning of sacrifice with Apocalypse Dance. Apocalypse Dance is Book I of The Paradise War, an epic fantasy adventure riddled with mythology, swords and sorcery, a touch of romance, and even a dragon.
I think this book would make an excellent holiday read for anyone who enjoys epic fantasy. The story appears to be rooted in the Japanese samurai warrior tradition. The main male character, Prince Hiro, has been banished from his ancestral home and undergoes rigorous warrior training. Can he reclaim his birthright and restore his honor?
By contrast, the primary female character, Amelia, is a sanu priestess. She is sworn to uphold the ancient traditions of her Order, including the duty of performing a ritual dance to prevent the apocalypse.
The two are thrown together after a demon attacks Amelia's temple. The epic tale that follows includes warfare, magic, family strife, and complex relationships. I enjoyed this well-written book, in which the author has created a complex world that readers should enjoy visiting. This is book 1, and I look forward to the sequel.
Healy is a gifted storyteller and master of language. I throughly enjoyed reading this well-written book. Every scene is wrought with emotion and action. I never once thought the story dulled in it's full 700 pages. This is a true Hero's journey tale where one of the main characters is actually named Hiro (the other main character Amelia's name means "defender" in the Teutonic which is very fitting). I love the deep thought and care put into each character. In the end, the story comes full-circle and I love when stories do that. If you like fantasy adventure and action and character tension and deep world building, I highly recommend this book - be advised there is violence and sexual situations. Even though it ended how I suspected it would end and it made me sad, I am hopeful and cannot wait for book 2.
From page one, Kat plunges the reader into a tangible, sensory heightened world where you experience first-hand, the characters most intimate details from their finesse in battle, anguish with inner conflicts, even bodily functions from the perspiration running across their brow. Her ability to provide a tactile world that readers can live vicariously through, is nothing short of amazing!
The world she has created surpasses the remarkable. The detail into cultural nuances, the social settings and interactions with characters through their travels; Kat has generated an entire culture- not just world, that reminds me of how Tolkien must have started as a budding author.
Simply stunning; only 4 stars because I have not yet finished the novel- but am eagerly flipping every page.
“The Beast of Biscay” awaits ! The Apocalypse Dance is a beautifully crafted story that takes you through an evolutionary journey of the protagonist Amelia as she rises to reach her destiny. The story draws on many Tibetan spiritualist principles and dovetails nicely with a fantasy world that shows off detail and depth to make it a realm all its own. The story is a great page turner that leaves you satisfied at the end and still wanting more while you just can’t get enough of great characters like Hiro and his edgy persona.
A feast for the imagination, beautiful imagery that breathes life into Amelia's world. Right from the beginning I was hooked, this is epic fantasy at its finest. Bring on the next book in the series, I'm really looking forward to it!
This super thick book was worth every minute I spent reading it, and I'm not as fast of a reader as I'd like to be.
Great characters, fun action and adventure with huge stakes. I'm really not sure what else to say without getting into spoilers. This'll definitely suck you into the world and keep you there. I had a pretty hard time putting Apocalypse Dance down.
