Jessie Richter has kept her childhood secret safe and tucked away for over four long years, until her older sister, Kate, shows up on her doorstep one rainy night, battered and bruised from head to toe. Again. This time, like all the times before, Kate’s maniacal ex-boyfriend has gone too far.Jessie knows what she has to do and unleashes her power in what she thinks is the perfect get-even scheme … until it backfires, putting Jessie and her sister straight into the crosshairs of the violent ex. Jessie is caught and rescued by two vacationing Military Contractors who sense there is more to Jessie than meets the eye, making her an offer she can’t refuse. Is it enough to throw the crazy ex off their trail? Or will Jessie be forced to reveal her secret? Sometimes, it’s just better to fight back.
This book is definitely not in my typical wheelhouse but knowing it was on the short side I gave it a shot and am pleasantly surprised. Not much of a "romance" considering Jessie's sister, Kate,is in a three year abusive relationship that is a vicious circle of calls to the police, arrests, fines, and restraining orders that ultimately lead to continued abuse.
After Kate shows up beaten and bruised, refusing to involve the police, Jessie decides to take things into her own hands. Jessie has what she calls her "Little Generator" that gets triggered under extreme emotion (fear, anger, and especially s3xual) that makes electricity build within her body and with a touch to a person's face she "slip streams" into their body, taking control.
Her revenge plot gets dicey and after taking several attacks from her sister's boyfriend, two strangers step in and not only save her from being hurt but ultimately gives her and her sister a safe haven.
There's a few triggers but nothing in graphic detail. This book held my interest from the beginning all the way through to the end and has me adding this Author to by TBR list!!
Review: Enemy Mine: A Jessie Richter Origins Story is a captivating novel that delves into the world of secrets, sisterhood, and the indomitable human spirit. The story revolves around Jessie Richter, who has harbored a childhood secret for years, until her battered sister, Kate, seeks refuge on her doorstep. As Kate's abusive ex resurfaces, Jessie's life takes an unexpected turn, leading her to uncover hidden reservoirs of strength within herself.
It was a rollercoaster of emotions that kept me glued to its pages. The author's skillful storytelling painted a vivid picture of the characters' struggles, making me feel deeply connected to their experiences. The suspenseful plot twists and heart-wrenching moments made every chapter a new adventure, and I found myself rooting for Jessie as she navigated through her challenges.
What truly makes this book stand out is its portrayal of resilience and empowerment. Jessie's journey from a hidden past to a position of strength and agency is both inspiring and relatable. The introduction of the two vacationing Military Contractors adds a layer of intrigue, showcasing how unexpected alliances can change the course of one's life.
Start with the prequel Enemy Mine, then follow it by reading Enemy Walks and Enemy Way. Readers will learn not to mess with Jessie Richter. Give her cause and she’ll bend an antagonist’s mind and body to her will. The target won’t see it coming. The individual(s) who caused her distress may develop a vague awareness that an eerie event is unfolding but will be unable to counteract the coming shift, eventually becoming lost under Jessie Richter’s control.
Jessie Richter is an intriguing and complex character as are the antagonists she confronts during her journey. She isn’t perfect though, and must fight her own demons amid conflicting emotions regarding the ethics of her actions to make Right what has been done Wrong. Will she lose herself in her battles to bring justice to those who betray and want to destroy her? Read along to discover the outcome in this engaging series.
An imaginative writer, Stephen Eagles draws on life experiences from serving in Naval intelligence during the Cold War to performing courageously and honorably as a homicide detective, while also becoming a falconer and working to protect the environment—including lions. You’ll also see in his work respect for his Native American heritage. This well-written work is hardcore, but what else would a reader expect from Eagles, a man who has battled real-life demons while fighting firsthand the harsh realities of the Cold War and the viciousness of homicide, all the while maintaining his love of justice and nature.
Bought this on Kindle, but Amazon wouldn’t let me leave a review, which I found to be frustrating since I paid for the series. I never leave reviews. But for this series, I thought it was a good idea because I really enjoyed this book, and just wrapped up the last. I don’t have a lot of time to read, but the stories are so fast paced and action packed... you’ll get through them fairly quick. This one especially since it’s short, a dozen chapters or so.
I wasn’t sure how I’d like this book at first, but a friend recommended. I thought it was going to be some teen paranormal coming of age thing at first, which was interesting to read about what happened to the main character, Jessie Richter, in the first chapter... then POW. The book is loaded with action, and it’s violent. As a former British Army Airborne solider, I really did appreciate the accurate, but not overstated mil-spec aspects that come later in the book. There is a warning of domestic violence and the antagonist is a real as*-h**. It caught my interest enough to move onto the next full novel, so, I’d give this a solid 4.5 stars, but I can’t do that on the rating thing.
This novella really caught me off guard. At first, I kind of felt it was geared toward a YA novella, which I don’t read, and then “it” happened (to the protagonist), and I was hooked. Then it becomes a story of not only how Jessie Richter’s power comes about, but how she uses it for... well, that would be a spoiler. Let’s just say that just because you have super-power, it doesn’t make you invincible. There is domestic and sexual violence in this, but it’s not gratuitous. The author warns readers about it, but having gone through DV myself, I can tell you it wasn’t triggering for me. In the end, we really learn about what Jessie is capable of, and of course, you have to read to see what happens to the bad-guy. It was a serious page turner. Well written, lots of action, and the characters are all relatable (to me anyway). It made me pick up the kindle version of book 2, Enemy Walks, and wow... I’m a fan. This is one of those books no one knows about yet, and should.
This is a fast paced read that kept me engrossed from beginning to end. Jessie is a petite smart bad ass you don’t want to mess with, fiercely loyal with a strange ability. Very well written with believable characters, well developed plot and the nearly plausible electrifying power Jessie possesses-and uses when emotions run high- make me want to see this on the big screen, Netflix or Prime! I can’t wait for Jessie’s next adventure and discover how she will use her incredible ability with her new employer, Crue Intellis.
I’m really a romance reader, but a friend recommended this and I have to say, I was very surprised. I’m not one for overly violent books but I couldn’t put it down. Such an interesting premise!!! This book does have domestic violence and sex, but it’s written from a point of view that lets you know this main character- Jessie Richter. So.. I will be trying out the next book.

Interesting read that I found to be pretty awesome. The origin to the series was filled with action and a great FMC. I'm looking forward to reading the official first book in the series.
This is a wonderful series by an up and coming author. This is very similar to the Sigma Force series and is very well written. I enjoyed every turn of a page!
