A young slime scientist's efforts to make a Valentine's Day friend for her slime explode in Valenslime , a clever and funny picture book companion to Joy Keller and Ashley Belote’s Frankenslime .

Victoria Franken, slime scientist, loved her slime. And her slime loved her back.

Ever since the dark and stormy night when Victoria Franken brought her slime to life, she and Goop have been great friends, but when Valentine's Day rolls around, Victoria comes to the horrifying realization that while she had many friends, Goop only had her.

The only solution is for her to make him a new friend. But when Victoria gets bored waiting for lightning to strike twice, things get a bit out of control!

Here is the opening paragraph that tells us about the main character:

"Victoria Franklin was a

slime scientist.

She loved her slime

Her slime, Goop,

loved her back. "

The next two pages show the reader the many ways in which Victoria and Goop love each other--the fun they have together in her lab, the science books they enjoy together, and their joint affection for Victoria's dog, Igor.

BUT...there's a problem. (Of course! There has to be a problem, right?)

Victoria realizes that she has lots of friends to send Valentines to--but poor Goop, only has one friend. Her. It just isn't fair.

Victoria takes the problem into her capable hands.

If Goop couldn't make a new friend,

She would make a new friend for him!

As any good scientist does, Victoria brainstorms slime recipes in order to make the perfect combination to make a friend for Goop. Finally, she assembles the perfect ingredients. Then she waits for lightening to strike so her creation will jolt to life.

But there's no lightening!

So, how does a scientist like Victoria solve that problem?

You create your own electricity!

But...that's when Victoria's slime solution grows into unmatched proportions and complicates Victoria's goal of creating a friend for Goop.
I don't want to give away the ending or spoil the surprise of Ashley's clever, colorful illustrations. Let's just say Victoria's slime solution ensures that everyone is happy.

This book is not only a cute Valentine read, it is also a fun way to teach young children about writing. Did you catch what I said in the first two paragraphs of this review? On the first page Ms. Keller tells the reader about Victoria's friendship with Goop. Then the author follows that with showing what this friendship looks like.

The character then encounters a problem which she attempts to solve. This is a great way to show young writers that the main character is ALWAYS the one to solve her problem! Victoria meets obstacles but eventually obtains her goal-creating a special friend for Goop.

Three new slime recipes--including one that is edible--will delight young scientists.

Valenslime - book review

A while ago, a friend who knows my girls LOVE slime, told me about this book. I ordered it immediately because I could tell they would, too.

It turns out, Valenslime is not only a fun, playful book about slime… it is also a SUPER SWEET story about friendship and thinking about someone you care deeply about. Yes, this is a MOVING BOOK about slime.

Here are five things I love about this book:

- it has a strong, clear narrative with a character made of slime (my girls’ number one favourite thing on planet Earth) and a rollercoaster of a plot (super engaging and action packed)
- the main character, Victoria Franken, is a creative, problem-solving young scientist (YES!)
- this book has casual representation (YES!)
- the illustrations are in a very kid-friendly, engaging palette (with a glittery pink title that my kids ooohed and ahhhed over)
- this story has heart!

In Valenslime, Victoria makes some slime friends for her best friend, Goop. She was making her classmates Valentine’s Day cards (complete with slime, of course) and realized that she had a lot of friends and that her best pal only had her. There are twists and turns, as any good slime-maker has experienced, there’s waiting, there’s unusual ingredients, there’s invention and there’s taking matters into your own hands!

There are even three slime recipes at the end (which, we are definitely going to try).

Valenslime—perfect for any day of the year!

Another adorable story featuring Victoria Franken, her dog Igor, and her best slime friend Goop. It's Valentine's Day and Victoria realizes she has a lot of friends but Goop only has her. She does what she does best, experiments(!), to make a new friend for Goop.

A great book to read again and again. The story itself is sweet and entertaining, and there is so much going on in the background. There is something to discover each time you read. I love seeing all of Victoria's different slime variations. Also, but sure to look out for the chameleon on each page spread.

At the back are three more slime recipes to try including Snifftastic Flower Slime, Mouthwatering Chocolate Slime (we love an edible slime), and Magical Fairy Slime (all the glitter!).

Adorable characters, a sweet story, and a wonderful blend of science and creativity.

I was excited to get my hands on this book because I loved the first one in the series. I was even more excited when VALENSLIME turned out to be just as much fun as FRANKENSLIME. This story follows Victoria Franken as she attempts to make a friend for her beloved Goop, the slime she accidentally brought to life in the first book. Like the original, this one is full of humor and heart! The vibrant illustrations are a visual feast for your eyes, providing new discoveries with each reading. This book is perfect for Valentine’s Day, but slime-loving children will enjoy reading it any time of the year.

I love this follow-up to Frankenslime! Victoria, Igor, and slime are all back for valentine's special. I loved the colorful and vibrant illustrations that truly brought the story to life. This leans toward a STEAM theme with victoria creating different slimes and beta testing through trial and error but also incorporates a great plot of friendship. The only issue I had was sometimes the text was hard to read when it was immersed in the colorful text. Besides that, this was a fun and exciting read. The slime recipes in the back will definitely be used many times!

This is a fun book to read as well as to look at with the bright, and action-packed illustrations. Not only is this a story of friendship, but it also has STEM applications throughout with science experiments. Readers will enjoy the added humor to each spread in the artwork--all the hilarious slime name labels and posted notes. I enjoyed seeking the chameleon in each spread to find out what color it was now. As an added bonus, slime recipes are included at the end for readers who want to experiment and play too.

When Victoria prepares her Valentine's for her friends, she realizes Goop only has her as a friend. Not wanting him to miss out, Victoria decides to makes him a slime friend. But she grows impatient and the slime grows out of control. The bright illustrations and silly text make this a fun sequel for Valentine's Day.

This book is a fun book to read to kids, it emphasizes the importance of friendship while entertaining kids. The book would be good to read around Valentines Day as it uses references towards the holiday. It's a great way for kids to use creativity and learn science because at the end of the book it gives all the ingredients to make the slimes used in the story which is really neat.

This book is all about Victoria and her friend Goop. Goop does not have as many friends as Victoria. She feels bad that he doesn't have many friends. She decides to make him more friends. This book highlights a female scientist which is something very rare, but still needs to be represented. There are so many different types of art throughout this book. The scrapbook pages are my favorite.

I loved this book. It is so creative and whimsical across illustrations, writing, and plot! The details of this book makes it even more fun to read. All of Victoria Franken's little notes around her setting are cute and always made me giggle. This artist was truly dedicated to the detail! This book was heartwarming and even included a slime recipe at the end!

The illustrations were awesome and so much fun. The book had a lot going on inside, so it was a little distracting from the story but still a fun and quick read for a Valentine’s Day story about slime!

I know kids will like this book, but if their grown-ups are like me…they will hate the slime recipes in the back of the book! 😱 I’m glad my child has moved beyond his slime phase. 😂

This is a cute book, but nothing earth-shattering. The story is sweet and well-paced. Sometimes, the illustrations were a bit too busy.

a simple book about slime and Valentine's day. Victoria Franken has a best friend made of slime (like the kid's toy) and tries to make him a friend for VD. After some trial and error, she succeeds.
